Literally only got food here because my wife and I were very hungry and had no other options outside of it. We did a carry out order for taco salad and a grilled chicken salad (thought they would be safe items). We didn't have high expectations especially given that we ordered our food late in the evening. At the end of the day this place is a bar, so you're better off grabbing a few drinks and getting drunk before biting into whatever food they serve. Because of a few bad reviews we were hesitant on stopping here but we are glad we did! My husband said it was one of the better meals he has had in a long time. We took a trolley/boat ride that was 6.5 hrs. and we were ready for a hot meal. We started with a French onion soup that was reported by my husband to be hearty, lots of onions, and the best he has had to date. The vegetable beef soup hit the spot too. I ordered the special which was a sirloin steak which came with soup or salad and potato. My husband ordered the full rack of ribs. We both got the loaded baked potato. I ordered my steak medium rare and it was cooked perfect. My first bite was an OMG moment. The steak was unexpectedly so tender it caught me off guard. The loaded potato was cooked perfectly also. My husband said his ribs were very good. They were falling off the bone tender. I tasted one and I loved the sauce. We took home apple and pumpkin pie slices. I originally was going to order a slice of cheesecake but the waitress came back and said they did not have anymore. When I ordered the pie She said she would grow in extra whip cream-which she did. When we entered the restaurant there were about 6 people seated and by the time We put our order in there were about 15. Our service was excellent and fast. We thought that maybe because of the influx of people at the same time it would take a while but shortly after we finished our soup our entrée came out. This was a hard review to script. Even months later I recall the feeling of "almost, but not quite" that lingered over the entire visit. When we showed up we were met with a number of people waiting for seating 10+. Which made us quite hopeful that the place was going to be a treat. There is a little shop inside that can give a short distraction while waited for some waiting area seating to open up. Seating at the bar is just as good as a table, even better as the bartender looked like she did refills on drinks. However the hostesses/waitresses do not include the bar area in the "seats available" so you need to ask for them directly. If you do not they are likely to go to someone that knows to ask, no matter how far back the queue they would be. The volume of the dining area ranged from loud to deafining. One waitress took to litterally shouting over everyone in the room to ask her table(s) if they needed anything. Food was mediocure at best and we never got refills for our drinks, nor did the other tables our waitress had. All in all the only reason this review was not a 1 star was that it was the only place open due to Covid, so that rounded the 1.5 stars to 2 read more

I love this place. It's right on the edge of down town Newberry, MI. They are awesome. It's a family diner-bar-restaurant-dealio. They have a cute little shop attached where you can find little knick-knack type stuff, great gifts for your mom, girlfriend, aunt, sister, dad, etc. They have a cool atmosphere--not the fanciest place, but totally yummy food. Try the friend chicken...and then try to finish it, good luck with that. My boyfriend's family goes up to the upper peninsula annually and eat there once or twice while they are there. I would eat there everyday if it were closer to where we stay. It's a great place and, I'm not sure how they are related, but if you want to also see black bears while you are "U.P." there, they can tell you where to go. Oswald's Bear Ranch about 15-20 minutes away if I remember correctly and you can actually take pictures with the baby bears!!! Great place. We ate here several times while staying in Newberry on a riding trip. Consistently had great service and all of the food here was great. Salads were very fresh. We had burgers, taco salad, fish basket, ribs, and soups-can't say we had anything we didn't like. Garden minestrone soup was so good and fresh. Boys loved the ribs. The fish is very lightly breaded and fried -can still taste the fish and not oil and breading -it was excellent. Roxy the bar server told us about a "new drink" -the Fuzzy balls -salted caramel whiskey and Skrewball (peanut butter) bourbon -omg so good!! It's a great local place. read more

Family of 4 visiting the Upper Peninsula for the first time. Food was ok but, probably won't return. The fried food/apps were great, especially the pretzel (which was HUGE & enough to split among all of us) but, the entrees weren't the best. The French onion soup was good, the gyro meat was kinda slimy & poor quality and, the steak was undercooked & not seasoned at all, couldn't even finish it. We also had the pumpkin pie & chocolate meringue pie which were good but nothing worth bragging to home about. I would definitely come here if I were in the mood for some "bar food" but, not for a good dinner after a long day of sightseeing. And, I'd say it's quite over priced for mediocre food. read more

Would give one star, but the drunk lady yelling at her boyfriend about having another woman on the side before throwing up everywhere added to the ambiance. Our waitress was great, but the food they made us wait for and have her deliver was horrible. BBQ smoked in house? No smoke to it at all. Our party also ordered the highly recommended two hearted sandwich. It was described to me as wet dog food. Cold, wet dog food. We knew it was a mistake when a local was complaining his steak tips were mostly fat and told other tables that while the restaurant was one of the best options in town, that it still sucks. This was a random stop for lunch as we traveled the UP and was a pleasant surprise! The interior was well decorated in a fun, welcoming outdoorsy way, our waitress was pleasant and attentive and the food was great. You could tell when we pulled up and struggled to find parking that the food was going to be good and they delivered! Worth the wait to get in! The all meat burrito was more than one person could eat and all the flavors were wonderful. Highly recommend the french onion soup and giant pretzel with cheese. Both made in house. Stopped in here after checking out the falls and the bear ranch. The food is probably a 3.5, but the place is a 4 since my picky kids ate almost everything. It got a prime rib sandwich that was decent and we all shared a massive pretzel. The beer cheese was good and I got some KBC Widowmaker on tap. Mac and cheese for kids was a hit with one and a flop with the other two. Wife got chicken tenders and was content. They also had coloring mats and crayons for the kids. The hotel we stayed in recommended this restaurant but warned us to call ahead. They tend to be very busy and wait times can be up to 45 minutes at dinner time. We decided not to dine in after our long drive and called in a pickup order instead. The mushroom and Swiss burger with steak fries was delicious. We ordered or burgers medium and they were perfectly cooked. They were very busy when I picked up our food, but staff was friendly and got to me quickly. Food was ready on time. Great place for a burger and beer. I didn't dine in but the bartender was describing the local brews to other patrons at the bar. Friendly service. Pasty was dry hamburger/mystery meat and even gravy and pepper didn't come to its rescue. Pancakes were ample enough but bland. Sweet tea was amazing, and our waitress "jennifer", was a Southern Belle, congenial and efficient. Food albeit filling, was very meh. read more

on Sunday we tried to eat at timber Charlie's, we got seated and we did not get any one to come over and take our drink order. about 10 minutes later the hostess seated 4people beside us, and immediately a waitress was there taking there drink order. so my husband flagged down a waitress and asked if this was here table and she was very rude and told us she didn't know who our waitress was. snotty . then we waited another 10 min and no one came over so we left.i will never eat there again very rude waitres. This was a great place for dinner. We were very pleased with how the staff was cleaning every table and area between guest due to Covid. I have seen only a few restaurants this detailed!!!! Very reassuring. Out dinner was great. My wife ordered the tenderloin tips and I ordered the steak. Or great waitress Stephanie B caught an error the kitchen made before setting the plates down. She returned a minute later with the correct order. It was a busy night at this place. Our food was perfectly done to our order. Stephanie was at tentative and prompt. Very pricey for what you get. Our server was very nice, that's about the only plus. I ordered the perch dinner. Our server said it was about 8-9 pieces and I was starved so thought that would fill me up. My husband got a burger and ordered it medium rare since it was "made in house" The fish came out on a large white plate.7 small pieces and a handful of fries. The burger was well done and the bun was burnt.. We sent the burger back, again the server was nice.... that's it.. burger was ok, nothing juicy and not medium. Fish very small potions for $17!. The waitress really doesn't know what beverages they have. Got to guess at it. They hand you the menu, and she immediately tells you what they're out of , the popular items we came for. Naturally. (But it's 6:30 in the evening! How can they be out?) Somebody's not doing the ordering and food preparation job. The manager should have their job! A restaurants sole job is to sell prepared food! So we ordered drinks, and the Onion soup everyone raved about on Yelp. Hey guys, it's just Onion soup! Didn't see what the big deal is! Nothing special. I'm not going to say the best food in town, that would be the country club. I will say it's the best value in town. They have great lunch specials and good service. I can't find food this cheap downstate below the bridge. The food is excellent and definitely worth eating here. Even though the country club is superior quality, this is a real bar and grill. High quality food and friendly atmosphere. I had the hot turkey sandwich for lunch and it was plenty and she said it was the half portion. Had the turkey bacon wrap the next day and it was excellent. Neat little restaurant in the downtown area of Newberry. The inside looks like a cabin and really makes you feel like you're in the outdoors. The French onion soup is the best I've ever had. I also at the fork and knife gyro. I would recommend just doing the straight gyro. The sauce that came on it was similar to a spicy ranch. Our server was very friendly, and our meal was good. I ordered the nacho supreme. The ground beef was tasty and the homemade chips were unusual and good! The ingredients were fresh and plentiful. I heard this place can get very crowded, but we arrived about an hour before closing on a Sunday... So there was only two other families there. We were in and out in less than an hour. Might be the worst restaurant meals I've ever had. We asked for a recommendation from the hotel we were staying at and without recommendation the hotel manager said Timber Charlies. I order the baby back ribs with a baked potato and onion rings. The onion rings were the only thing eatable, every else was overcooked and dry. The BQ sauce had a horrible aftertaste. My husband ordered the pastie. He said he the meat had a weird taste and texture. the best thing about his meal was the cold slaw. The service was not the greatest and food took along time to come out. When the food finally came out ribs were slightly warm and tough. The cole slaw had too much mayo in it for my liking , the smoked baked beans were ok but not great. The fish was ok and the best part of the meal was the bbq sauce.
