Since my new silk dress only had to be shortened and I needed a quick turnaround, I decided to take a chance with Timmy the Tailor based on the one review (and the fact that there were no other reviews for any other tailors in my area). The consultation was quick. I tried on the dress, he chalked it and I was done. After picking up the dress, I examined the hem and noticed there were a few spots that seemed to go astray and then recovered. But, for $12, I was satisfied overall with the job. Thinking my search for a local tailor that offers quality work at reasonable prices was finally over, I brought two other dresses in that had been sitting in my closet. To my dismay, the dresses were hacked. Seriously, any 8th grader taking a sewing class could have done a better job! Dress #1 - I got a great bargain on a gray cotton stretch summer dress at the Gap, so I didn't think twice about paying to get it hemmed for my vertically challenged build. Unfortunately, I am going to end up paying more to get it fixed than it cost me to buy the dress! What went wrong? 1. The original hem had a double over-edge type stitch; it was not folded up, so it had more of an unfinished look. When I got the dress back, he had changed the hem by folding it up and using a straight stitch. That was really annoying, but I was willing to live with it, BUT... 2. With the straight stitch, he didn't even fold in the fabric which is pretty standard since the fabric will begin to fray if you don't. 3. The hem was uneven so that it was slightly longer on one side. 4. The worse part was the fabric was stretched too much during the stitching that it created wrinkles because the stitch bunched up when it was draped. It's so horrible that I have to invest more money to bring it to another tailor to get it fixed. Dress #2 - I've had this double layer black sheer dress for years and have never worn it because it was too long. This dress was not hacked as bad. The quality of work was just not very good. He did not fold in the hem and the stitches were not consistent in length. So, I pretty much just paid someone twenty bucks to screw up two of my dresses so that I still can't wear them. What happened to the days when people actually cared and put effort into the work they do?? So, what do I do now? I'm going to buy my own sewing machine and learn how to do my own alterations. read more

Timmy is the best when it comes to hemming, alterations, rips, tears, stains, and anything else your clothes can endure. I've had bridesmaid dresses, pants, skirts, jackets, etc. altered here and Timmy does a phenomenal job. The only down-side is that sometimes the turn-around time can be a week, and he is a little on the expensive side, but the price matches the quality! read more

I love going to Timmy to get alterations done! I've been bringing stuff to Timmy since my Junior Prom! I'm a musician and need to have dresses, black pants, and buying nice clothes frequently really puts restrictions on my wallet. I wait until the dress is on sale to buy, but you won't always get your size. I'm in between a zero and a three depending on the store, and 9 times out of 10 something won't fit right somewhere. Timmy is a really nice and very pleasant guy - and the tailoring might be just fine for hemming jeans or other simple stuff, but I wouldn't recommend them for anything more challenging. I had several expensive suits and a blazer done there, and the results - puckery seams, sleeves too short, lumpy cuffs on the pants - are a real let-down. I was just looking up Timmy's number when I came across these reviews and I'm shocked at those first two. I'm wondering if they went to another one in town called Tony the Tailor although I don't want to bad mouth him cause I don't know him at all. Timmy is FABULOUS! I'm in the process of having him make a dress for me for a wedding, could I have bought in a store, sure but I wanted something very special and I knew Timmy was the man for the job! Look no further since Timmy is the best! I was looking for a tailor to alter my mother-of-the-bride gown. With just one week lead time he met with me and flawlessly altered the gown which included taking in the back and hemming the two layers of fabric. My gown was then beautifully steamed and ready to go. He charged just $85 (Nordstroms wanted $125 just for the hem). Timmy was highly recommended and I can now appreciate why. I am visiting from Hawaii. My family lives around here, and a friend recommended Timmy to alter my two new dressy outfits for a family wedding. My review is way overdue! Timmy has done a lot of services for me in the past including bridesmaid dresses for me and most recently my wedding dress, all my bridesmaids dresses and he is currently finishing my daughters prom dress. I live in Brockton with A LOT of tailors/dry cleaners around me, there is a reason I drive to Randolph to see Timmy instead of using anyone else. First you aren't going to beat his price anywhere, I was quoted a starting price of around $1000.00 for alterations for my wedding dress where I bought it (Alexandra's Fall River) Timmy completed all my alterations, bustle, steamed my dress and also added something special to my dress at my request to honor 2 deceased relatives all for around $200. He did an amazing job and I could not have been happier. He also altered all 5 of my bridesmaids dresses, all different styles and did a gorgeous job on all of them, including my daughter who is so small he basically had to remake her whole dress. Every one of us loved our dresses and how great they fit us. As soon as my daughter picked her prom dress out this year we headed right over to Timmy, he even made a bow tie for my daughter's date out of left over fabric from her dress. He is extremely talented and worth every penny, I have never used anyone else after going to see him. Also he is really fun to work with, I have never heard anyone say that about a tailor before but it's true, he makes me laugh every time we visit him and he's so easy to work with and knows exactly what to do to make you look your best. I cannot begin to tell you how wonderful it was to work with Timmy. I had a ballgown wedding dress and after losing some weight, the thing was enormous on me. I took it to one alteration place and the woman had me in tears - it was just a bad experience for a lot of reasons. I decided to check out Timmy - I'd heard good things about him and he was 2 mins down the road. Now, the shop is not your typical bridal store alteration shop - don't let that deter you - the man knows his stuff. He made me feel so at ease, he made me laugh, and he assured me he could help me out. He worked quickly and his work was spot on. He didn't mind my many calls to check on on stuff either! He made me look so beautiful in my dress. And then, when I decided 2 weeks before my wedding to have a second wedding dress, he altered that too - in fact, he was altering my dresses at 9pm two days before my wedding, just to get everything done in time for me. He steamed everything for me, gave me a new garment bag, and gave me a hug. PLUS his pricing was perfect - the other place I went to was about to charge me more than I paid for the dress.
