Different Cheesesteak #1264. 2 dogs, beers and cheesesteaks for 2 weeks officially kicked off at Timothy's. Special guest eaters Elbert, Sally, Oldest Daughter Jordan and her Karl. We had a very nice experience at Timothy's. Lovely day so we sat outside. I loved our waiter and the self-proclaimed .World's Okayest bartender.' We started with the crab fries, they were very tasty. I just ate Jordan's leftover burger, it was extremely tasty. Luckily everything else was lovely because the cheesesteak was average at best. The meat had a very nice meat flavor

Timothy's has really gone down. It's unfortunate because this used to be a great place to gather during football season. I met up with 2 friends to watch a football game and arrived early to get a good table in the bar area. Much to my surprise, since I had not been there since Fall 21, there was no need to rush. During the entire 1 o'clock games there were only 14 customers in the bar (including us). The menu prices have gone up, which seems a lot. I of course know food has as well, so I understand. Both friends ordered nachos with chicken and they forgot the chicken on one, so it had to go back to have it added. The Crab Dip used to be amazing but it was mediocre at best this day. How with only 14 patrons is the service slow? We had to go over to the bar to ask for service, we had to ask to have our table cleared of dirty dishes and had to ask multiple times for the check. There are way too many other restaurants in Wilmington with great food, service and ambience for me to return here. What We Ate: Crab Dip & nachos Chicken Nachos

Weird cut cheese steak egg rolls that had no flavor and onion rings that guess I came as a side to the egg rolls to distract you

My wife and I stopped in hoping for a good meal, but everything we were served felt like it came straight from a freezer bag and into a microwave. We started with the cheesesteak egg rolls, which were cut on some odd diagonal bias like they were trying to be fancy--but looks aside, they were completely flavorless. My wife ordered the French onion soup, which sadly resembled dirty dishwater more than anything savory or comforting. The broth was weak, the onions barely present, and the melted cheese on top couldn't save it. I had the boneless chicken wings, and if you've ever had tough, rubbery chicken that's clearly been frozen and overcooked, you know exactly what I'm talking about. Chewing them was a chore. I left half my food untouched. When the manager came over and asked if I wanted a box to take it home, he didn't even flinch when I said no, as if he hears that all the time. Safe to say we won't be back. If you're looking for quality, made-in-house food, this isn't the place.

Crab & Shrimp Quesadilla It was eh.

Happy hour means $6 well drinks, so my standard is rum and diet Coke. Good drink, single pour of Cruzan. I chose to dine at the bar because the weather was a little steamy out. But I later took my second drink out onto their riverfront patio, and sat awhile in the shade of the building. It was lovely. For snacks, I ordered the blackened filet medallions and the garlic mussels. On a skewer, four hefty pieces of excellent beef were joined with a nifty horseradish dip. I did cut the steak into several bites per piece, so it was a good sized portion. My only preference would have been some garnish (greens maybe?). The mussels normally come with bread, but I let them keep it in the kitchen to sub my own GF bread from home. The broth was thin and lightly flavored, which I enjoyed almost like a soup (but was too embarrassed to tip the bowl). The patron to my right bemoaned the loss of a thicker broth from a previous recipe, so the bartender brought him some scampi butter which helped apparently. I really loved the light broth and found it soaked into the bread quite nicely. Friendly bartender gal cashed me out at my request before I took my drink on the patio. $30 plus tip, well spent. I could be a regular here, and look forward to another visit to Wilmington next time we are in Philly.

Overall, I would go back (lots of things on the menu I would love to try) but there are some considerations that might make it lower on my list: --It's a tiny place, like 16 seats --If they're full, you will be uncomfortably close to other diners --The hash browns are something else entirely...it's like someone filled a sheet pan full of potato latke ingredients, pressed it and made it dense, cut it into 1x1x5 inch sticks, and then deep fried it to a burnt brown (wtf!). It tasted like a latke crossed with a hush puppy. Also be aware that it's walk-in only and you pay when you order (so you have no way to express your dissatisfaction with the so-called hash browns). It's street parking in a residential neighborhood but I luckily got a great spot. Obviously this review got a little snarky. So let me repeat that I was happy with my food and think the menu is great. I only deducted one star!

Keep going to the stop sign. When you're at the stop sign look across the street to the left and they're right there. I got lucky and found street parking right in front of their door. Walked in and they were packed. One tiny table open squashed between two others and the bar were my options so I sat at the bar. I try to pay cash at Mom & Pops place so they're not hammered by the credit card fees. They were low on change and recommending credit cards. I dug around in my pockets and found exact change. They were all out of pastries but one. I wanted to try their pasties de nada but all that was left was a croissant so I ordered it, along with their French toast and an oatmilk cappuccino. Turns out the croissant was already purchased by another patron who was going to have it after their meal. It hadn't been served yet. I received a refund. A couple showed up and sat at the bar as all the tables were full. Then someone else showed up and pointed at the seat I had my coat on saying they were told to sit there as it was the last seat open in the entire place. Packed. The French toast came out in good time but somehow my cappuccino got lost in the mix. It was immediately made and brought out. The French toast is as good as everyone says it is. Light, well filled, great flavor without being too sweet. I was trying to eat it all but had to stop 3/4 of the way as somehow it's filling. The cappuccino is also very good. I made the mistake of wanting to try them out at 11:45 on a holiday. 100% my bad. Considering there are only 3 people working the entire establishment, they did a great job. The food and drink were totally worth it and I will be back (at a less busy time)! *Quick add: I usually don't post while in the establishment but did here. Even with it being busy the owner came by to talk about the review and share a little about their business. They do evening events, private dinners. They also host guest chefs. Their goal is to elevate dishes, which is exactly what they did to the French toast. Based on this one breakfast I would definitely consider them for any function I was hosting in the area.

I can say without a doubt that the Chef at Eclipse LOVES to cook and cares about what he/she puts on a plate. Amazing food. Husband had the pork chop and was beyond pleased with his food. The skin was rendered and so crunchy AND meat was so tender. Was sitting in a perfect lemony sauce, served with super crunchy potatoes. Also, the staff was so personable and attentive. I loved the unique lights at the tables that felt like taper candles. I'm not sure if it's because of what we ordered, but wait times were really long. It took about an hour for us to get our entrees. Thankfully we were in good company. And our party enjoyed their cocktails. We started with the brussels and cauliflower. This was beyond delicious. You have to order this as a starter. They had a quail special and monkfish special the evening we were there. The birthday girl ordered the quail. It took about an hour to arrive and came undercooked. Thankfully they were kind about cooking it more. I think she enjoyed it once she got to eat. Her husband got the pork chops. I shared the monkfish with a friend and really enjoyed it. We also got the seared tuna for the table and that was good too. Our waitress was super kind especially with the food hiccups. They have one gender neutral restroom stall. It has the prettiest wallpaper. We were stuffed by the time the dessert menus came out. Thankfully they still gave us a mini scoop of ice cream for the birthday girl with a sparkler. It was lots of fun. I think wait times were long for the specials and if we stuck to the regular menu things would've arrived faster. I'd go back to try more yummy food.

Alright, if you cant tell from the reviews this place is somewhat polarizing... I went here for the first time recently and felt mixed on the experience. On one hand I loved the lowkey, mysterious, hyperlocal, dive bar atmosphere. On the other hand it does have a bit of a genuine dirty feel that can be off putting. The bathroom in particular is really quite bad, the bar is a bit musty and just feels like it would benefit greatly from a good wipe down. Additionally, I can see how the laid back bartenders and overly comfortable regulars could be a bit intimidating to folks who go in expecting a 'normal' restaurant experience. Servers here will not wait on you hand and foot nor will they at most any other local bar/tap, its just how it is. When you go to a place like this you should understand your visiting someone elses world for a bit, it's not McDonalds or a fancy Italian spot. If local dive culture is foriegn to you or you don't like it you will likely not like this spot. All that being said I found the somewhat aloof bartender and local regulars to be quite charming, reasonably attentive, and all very kind. I ordered some drinks and food, the food was suprisingly good for what you might expect when you arrive, and the drink was fine (just ordered a bottled beer or two). I feel like this place deserves more than a 3 star rating, but honestly I have a hard time saying that my experience was anything special or above being "okay". If I were a local I could see being a regular here, most out-of-towners probably wont like it - that being said If your bored on a random weeknight and don't want to cook at home, stop by and give Dead Presidents a shot, it may surprise you. Ownership, I'd recommend a solid deep cleaning, otherwise I have no real notes.
