I came here for gel x because the price is a little cheaper than the salon at the next street over. The shape was not exactly as I asked for and was a little clumpy to be honest but I thought it was ok since I saved 20 bucks. Worst part was 5 of my nails broke within four days. The materials here are very bad and it's not the gel x. When i did the same nail treatment at a different salon it lasted 6 weeks. These nails feel flimsy. read more

If you're looking for a more complex design, definitely specify that beforehand so they schedule you in for a longer block so no one feels rushed! Went here to get a gel manicure, and called ahead to schedule an appointment. When I arrived, I showed the woman doing my nails a picture of what I wanted, which was a french tip design but slightly more complex (essentially a double french tip), and she told me she didn't have enough time to do the design because she had a bunch of appointments after me. I apologized and decided to go with a classic french tip design instead. Halfway through the manicure, she decided she actually had enough time after all so she managed to do the design I had originally wanted. It was a nice surprise, but I felt pretty frazzled because it was such a last-minute change. It was a really quick manicure, but I felt that she was rushing the whole time, maybe because of the appointments afterwards, which made me feel a bit stressed. Not the most relaxing manicure ever but it turned out fine. The nail lady was really nice and I definitely don't blame her for being stressed about running behind on appointments. Don't know if she always works this fast-paced but just keep that in mind if you're looking for a more relaxing manicure experience! The assistant Din Ve assisted me in/out of shop with walker and two steps. He went ABOVE and BEYOND in walking with me to the corner of Bush and Taylor and across the street to ensure a safe trip home. A hop, skip and a jump from the Union Square area and the shop runs ON TINE with appointments. A good idea to call first and schedule. Also 2 iconic pizza places nearby. You may as well make a day of it on Bush Street. Barbara Streisand sure did in "What's Up Doc" (Corner of Bush and Jones) and it worked out pretty well for her. read more

I wanted to add another review because I've been coming here for a few years now and have become a regular of getting a Powder Nail Manicure. If you've never tried Powder or had a bad experience at other places, Gwen does a fantastic job and the best I've seen in SF. The powder mani lasts over a month, and it never lifts like I've seen at other places and where your hair gets caught in the cuticle. I've switched from Gel to Powder because the Powder doesn't ruin/weaken your nail bed. She also does designs as well and has quite a few selections. If you want to get a powder manicure, I'd suggest you'd make an appointment ahead of time. I also still get my Brazilian and eyebrow waxed here on the regular. Gwen did an amazing job in my nails. I'm super picky and didn't even have to say anything. She made me feel so relaxed. And it's one person at a time so it's not stressful like normal salons. Very quiet and nice. I did it a neutral matte color and love it. Mary did my toes a gorgeous color and perfectly done. Tina's Nails is a good nail salon in the city. The two women working there are so friendly and caring, and while the place is on the smaller side it has very homey vibes. There are two massage chairs with cushioned pillows and you should definitely make an appointment although walk ins are welcome, since they are quite busy. The gel manicure I got took a whole hour but it was done to perfection with my cuticles perfectly trimmed and 2 layers of gel top coat applied. The only issue that I noticed with my nails were that there were tiny specks of black that were trapped under the top coat of nail polish. I assume these were specks of dirt from the UV lamp machine that fell onto the drying nails and got sealed in with the top coat. While this does not look bad per say, I am not a fan of the dirt speckled look. Otherwise Tina's nails was a good salon to visit if you are in need of a manicure. read more

They don't *really* take appointments. If you call they will tell you if they are currently busy at the moment or not, and not put any appointment into a calendar. I know because I had a dip powder manicure appointment, and when I showed up on time, the staff was genuinely surprised. The whole time I was there, Gwen, who was doing my manicure, "took appointments" over her phone through her watch but didn't actually put anything into a calendar. What's the point of making an appointment, then? Anyway, the manicure itself was rushed, sloppy, and lacking proper nail prep. It started lifting in a few days and I went to a different salon to have it removed and redone. For what it's worth, it seemed clean enough and no harm was done apart from the wallet damage. If you are just getting your toenails done I'm sure you'll be be happy. Otherwise, they don't seem to take pride in their work nor enjoy their craft, and it shows. read more

Tina is super hardworking and detailed, and constantly made sure I was happy with my nails from the shape to the length and the color. It was my first time doing a powder dip manicure and the results were super pretty! It's definitely a bit thicker than regular color cause of the layers and about the same thickness as gel (if not slightly thicker), but Tina sanded it down so that the edges taper off and doesn't stick out oddly. It also seemed less fussy than a gel manicure cause it didn't require the UV light. I'm so glad that my friend recommended this shop to me for manicures and I'll definitely be back for both regular and powder manis! A few things. This place is expensive especially given the quality of work and overall experience inside the salon. In the beginning, I wanted to get dip so they sat me down in a chair. After a few minutes (while picking color) I decided I wanted to add extensions and the younger woman rolled her eyes at me because she had to move me to the chair next to it. I was the only customer in the salon. Then, the nail technician cut my pinky with a filer and instead of trying to quickly clean up the area and sanitize it, started panicking and nervously laughing. I understand that it's an accident but please learn how to professionally address a problem you have created. Only a week later, one of my nails fell off. Please take into consideration that I was on a vacation, so no sauna, dishes, or even laptop work. See pic. I paid $70 for this job. Really disappointing as I was visiting from out of town and maybe she would have done a better job had I not said that. The salon itself is tiny. I hope they sanitized the instruments after cutting me. Wouldn't recommend. read more
