Braces! Something that so many kids dread and I indeed was one of them! I had my braces for six years. The entire process was with Dr. TinHan and his ever-changing staff. I fell in love with some of them because they were goofy, open, and always made the in-office-experience easier. Unfortunately Id see a few of them and then never see them again. Making an appt. was aways a hassle due to their large client base (book ahead!) and their hours werent accomodating to students who had afterschool activities or parents with late work hours. I cant say I ever had a great experience here. Broken brackets all the time and an unenthusiastic attitude from Dr. TinHan (thats his baseline demeanor). As soon as I was 18 I signed those suckers off. All-in-all Id recommend another orthodontist if possible. read more

The integrity of this person is in question. I had called in for a quote on a very simple and easy job. It was to remove and replace a permanent retainer (tiny metal rod) behind my 2 front teeth. The receptionist spoke with the doctor after I explained everything thoroughly. I was quoted $100-200. When I came in I was given the whole "spiel" as if I were needing braces. They took the "before" photos and went over all their expensive options (that were 1000% more than what I had asked for.) I didn't take this personal...they're a business after all. What I was upset about, was that the price was now $250 for the procedure that I wanted all along. Yes...$50 more than the maximum price in the quote I received the day before. At first the receptionist (who was sent in to talk about prices,) had the nerve to try and pretend like she didn't remember the quote (from the day before.) All I wanted was an EXPLANATION. Its not too much to ask, right? What factor...what variable was causing the rise in price? What changed? There was zero "gray area" with this particular job. The dude was literally removing a teeny tiny metal rod and GLUING a new one in its place and I had given them every detail necessary to give me an accurate quote. When I kept pressing for an explanation, I felt that Mr. TinHan had become condescending in his attitude and demeanor. He cut me off and said "the price is the price." OK fair enough...so why wasn't I given THAT price over the phone then? That was my question and he couldn't answer it. He instead chose to sidestep the question ("Straw Man" fallacy) and tell me that he (could or usually) charges for the removal and the replacement separately. I continued to press him and he began to walk out on me and said "I'm done with this." Have you ever had a DOCTOR walk out on you? At this point I lost it...I threw the paper in the air and cursed at him as I walked out. ------------------------------------------------------------------- It was never about the $50. It was this right here... 1 - The entire point of offering someone a price (range) is to ensure that there is no misunderstanding between the 2 parties. Otherwise you would just give someone a "ballpark estimate." 2 - If the price ends up falling outside of the price range (which again...was given in order to ENSURE this didn't happen)...then there would have to be a logical explanation. Yes? A customer would be entitled to an explanation. --------------------------------------------------------------------- I was given none. I was met with a condescending attitude and this guy had the audacity to insult my intelligence and try to sidestep my questions. It would stand to reason then, that the increase in price (by 25%) was unjustified. So ask yourself...why would you ever want to do business with a place that behaves like this over $50? Especially given that you're considering 1000's? Best of luck out there. read more

Dr. TinHan does not double book. Repeat, DOES NOT DOUBLE BOOK. On the mainland I took my daughter to a dentist where the average wait time for a simple 15 minute adjustment was 2 hours, due to the fact that he had about 8 chairs of people, along with another queue in the room, along with another queue in the outer waiting room. But this doc is different. The appointment took 30 minutes, fully used, during which Dr. TinHan thoroughly explained things like the fact that my kid is missing a grownup tooth (no one had pointed that out before) and how we shouldn't let anyone pull it out; the role of bones in the mouth; the development of teeth; and finished it by saying we should wait 6 months and see if her teeth dropped on their own before doing more orthodontia. Now I feel like I had some kind of tooth class. He also works in Hawaii Kai sometimes, including an occasional Saturday, which is where we saw him. read more

He has the best prices comparable to others. Even got a price $1500 less than an orthodontist in mililani... he gave my second child a 10% discount. That helps... he got my daughter a phase 1 service only & we love the results. Others would tell me she needed phase 2 also. I probably would've listened & paid the money. He made her top jaw bigger as she grew so he adult teeth would come in nice and have ample space. Now is the retainer phase. He even gave her a free retainer for the bottom. They are really flexible with appointments & have two locations. They have waimalu & aikahi. Definitely a recommend! read more

Dr. Tinhan has finished the interceptive phase for my son (now 12) and has just started on my daughter (7) for treatment. They love him and don't have a single complaint! Having Dr. Eric Tinhan care for all three of our children and making them feel relaxed and comfortable with a friendly staff who were always welcoming with a smile. Our kids always felt at ease during their appointments. Rescheduling was never a problem with our busy lifestyle. They have great hours in accommodating our needs. We moved from the mainland in 2019 and selected Dr. TinHan because he was associated with the Kapiolani Craniofacial Team. After 1.5 years with Dr. TinHan we were forced to find a new orthodontist. Dr. TinHan is rude, made absolutely no progress on my Childs dental work after all this time. He changed her wires maybe once, and never started her bottom braces, which was a total deviation from her orthodontic plan which was given to him at the first visit. On our last visit, I asked him when he planned to start with the bottom teeth. His response " I now have to push her top teeth in, because I pulled them out to much." I started to ask a question, Dr. TinHan rudely interrupted me stating, "Don't question me on this!" That was the straw that broke the camels back. It took several months to find a reputable Orthodontist that would take over the process and help us move forward. Not once did Dr. TinHan ever apologizes, he left that to his staff who continuously asked for a second chance. Not with my Childs well being. Cleft pallet children have extenuating issues with their pallet, jaw bones, and teeth. Dr. TinHan does not care about his patients and he is even less informative to his patients parents. Stay away from this guy at all cost. He should be removed from the Craniofacial Team. Thankfully we found a fantastic new Orthodontist who is making great progress, is very engaging and informative to both patient and parent. read more

Dr. Tinhan has an amazing staff! From the moment we walk in the door we're greeted with bright smiles and they all know us on sight! My daughter was a little anxious in the beginning, but everyone is so cheerful and friendly she feels at ease. Great orthodontist and a really great staff. Every month when I visit, it really isn't bad. I actually enjoy the visit. Dr. Tinhan also likes good music and plays a great selection to enjoy while waiting or when you're getting your wires tightened. The office has gone through some changes, but everything is always for the better. The payment plan for the braces were affordable and very easy to make. Used this orthodontist while stationed in HI. Was very nice until it came time for us to leave. The last year we were there he promised and promised that the next visit would be when my daughter got her braces off and every time we went back, there was a new staff person who insisted that we change bands. It finally got down to our final month in HI and we requested that the braces be removed as we had already paid this guy and didn't have the money to continue on in the mainland. He made me sign a document stating that it was due to my daughter's refusal to follow their instructions even though she religiously did what they asked before he would take them off. Seemed strange that he kept changing staff until he yelled at me to sign that document. Very UNPROFESSIONAL. Not sure why he insisted on that statement unless he just was covering his behind. Obviously, he didnt stay up on what they were doing as we went back and forth on different bands. Downright hateful man! If you are military, avoid this guy! read more

The receptionist was friendly and so were his assistants but Tinhan laughed in my face every time my parents and I brought up to him that I wanted to get the braces taken off before my senior portraits. The first time we brought this up to him, he promised they'd be off and straight by then, considering I'd already had the braces for 3+ years and my teeth did not need major work in the first place. When we brought it up to him for the last time, he laughed in my face once again and said they'd be off after a few more months (not in time for senior portraits) and blamed me for not wearing the rubber bands that I'd been wearing EVERY day. Come to find out from another ortho, some of the brackets were not exactly placed as straight as they should've been, that explained why this guy was telling me that it was "MY fault" that my teeth weren't moving. Ended up taking the braces off early because I was unhappy. My teeth aren't straight and need more work, but sure won't be returning to Tinhan. read more

Dr. Tin Han has the best orthodontic care in hawaii by far. When I got braces, I was instructed on how to take care of my teeth and my braces responsibly. In other words, how not to damge them. The procedure to have braces installed was fast and quick, with minimum discomfort. After the installation, I was given tips on how to reduce the amount of pain from the sudden tightening sensation on my teeth, and they helped. Every so often you come back to the office to get your braces adjusted or to make specific changes to your mouth to give you the straightest, most aligned smile you will ever see. During these check ins, you can also have the color of your brackets that cover your wires changed, from teal to magenta or almost any color you can think of. After 2 years of braces, my teeth are aligned perfectly. I would reccomend Dr. Tin Han to anyone looking for a reliable orthodontist to recieve braces. read more
