It's an American diner with some Greek fusion. There's the usual diner staples such as pancakes, omelette, burgers etc. which are just ok. They also serve gyro and baklava. It makes you question how authentic is your american diner experience is they serve Greek food. However, hummus with hot pita was delicious so I can't really complain. It was actually much much better than the philly cheese steak sandwich I ordered. They serve the root beer in ice cold mugs which are good too. Seems like the decor was a little bit revamped since it looks new. It still has the diner feel which is great. Service is just ok. Nothing spectacular or great about it. It was a good diner experience. Will I go back again? Probably not. read more

I was happy with my first time. The themed 50's diner drive-in decor was unique, and the barstool setup at the counter was a good touch. The wait staff are nice, friendly, and busy all in one. I agree the crowd is all over the grid, so therefore people watching is great. You will leave with the faint to moderate smell of a greasy diner, which is just a subtle reminder of the deliciousness. I added this to the rotation of my other favorite breakfast joints. Meal: 2-2-2 which includes bacon or sausage, french toast or pancakes, eggs or grits. It's time for the owner "Lucky" to come back and manage the place. Went Sunday, and it was like a Circus. Waitress put the food tray on the Counter 10 minutes later people started getting up and placing the food at their tables. Patrons yelling out who gets the bacon and eggs! Really this is not made up. Everyone in the Kitchen, no service, and a mess. Many people walked out and others left as they were in line. This has been going down hill since "Lucky" decided to do West Coast Management. Repeated bad service and messy and getting worse. And who wants to listen to Hard Rock and Hip Hop (Love hearing "Bitches" as you are sitting with your mother), at 9 am in the Morning Blaring, besides the employee's! Nice watching the Church Patrons eyes as they listen to the words.... priceless..... It isn't worth the visit any more. It's just a mess. Wow, how have I missed reviewing Dan's Drive-In? I've been coming here for years, with my dad and now with the spouse. We'll hit Dan's on our way out of town for breakfast on a Saturday. Everyone here is friendly - the wait staff, the cooks and the other diners - regulars, most of them. I've had both breakfast and lunch here, and I'd choose the Greek omelet over about anything else. It's a sad day when I'm here and know my waistline is going to limit me to eggs, bacon and toast - but I know it will all be delicious. The decor is 50s style, white bright and chrome, with lots of booth space and a long service counter. The TV is old-school and always on. Dan's is worth swinging down to the south side. read more

I ate here the other day because a friend dragged me along. It looks to be a old plain building on the outside, but on the inside old school classic dinner going on. My teenaged mother met the man she would eventually marry here in the 60's Lucky for me, right? It is what America was built on, a local spot that offered and still offers low cost, filling fare, and in a place that looks like it is straight out of Fast Times At Ridgemont High. All that is missing are the poodle skirts, skates and car parks. It isn't a five star joint, but it is one of Columbus' last few relics that hangs in there. Historic. Honest. Hearty. Their parking lot car shows should be a magnet for a certain crowd and their big breakfast, coffee and tip will eat a ten spot at most. What more can you ask for? read more

I'm just kind of obsessed with Dan's right now! Love the Harley Decor (reminds me of my Dad so much!) and the food and service and prices are all ON POINT!! If you go, might I suggest a few items? We stopped in for breakfast with a group of 7 people for breakfast. We were seated quickly and our drink order was taken. We then ordered our food and waited. The restaurant was crowded and we we given drink refills. We waited for around 45 minutes for the food to be served. As we were waiting for our food the restaurant emptied out and we were finally served. The food was warm not hot like it sat for a while in the back. Ambiance-wise, a very standard diner. Food-wise, comparable to other standout diners in the area. Price-wise, again, pretty much what you'd expect from a greasy spoon. When it comes to service though, Dan's leaves a lot to be desired. At Golden Donuts on Lockbourne, one of my faves, the service is friendly, the staff engages in conversation with the customers, and the owner comes out to greet just about everyone and tell a joke. At German Village Coffee Shop, the waittress readily offers up suggestions, even if the service isn't the friendliest. Go to Buckeye Donuts on campus, and at least the staff is busy enough to justify them having no time to be cordial. At Dan's, the cold, impersonal service can't be attributed to anything other than a poor attitude. Will probably be years before I give this another try. read more

I'd say the food was slightly above average, and service was okay as well. I'd probably give this spot 3 stars but it's hard to find a true, classic diner now and I really did enjoy the atmosphere, so that alone was enough for an extra star from me. This was the first time I tried this place out. I pass it everyday on the way to work and wondered how the food was. I called in and got breakfast to go. The lady who answered the phone and greeted me when I walked in was friendly. I love the old time diner nostalgia inside the place. I ordered the Protein Lover's Breakfast. It came with 3 extra large eggs and choice of 2 meats. I had scrambled eggs with bacon & sausage links & a large orange juice. The food was just ok. Not bad but not great. I've had better and I e had worse but, it served my hunger and need to eat breakfast. I may try this place out again sometime and try something else to see how it taste. I'm only giving this 3 out 5 stars because it wasn't great but feel Dan's Drive In needs another try to see if is the same, better, or worse. I felt the prices were reasonable. read more

There's so much to comment on here. First, we entered (party of 5) and there was plenty of booths available, but nothing had been cleared from the last patrons. Second, after waiting for 15 minutes, they only came over to take an order when we got up to leave, we should have at this point. Third, after taking our order, we sat untended to for 30 more minutes. We had to get up and go to the counter for coffee refills. It literally took an hour for us to get BREAKFAST FOOD at a DINER. And when they did, the orders weren't even correct. Not only would I never go back to this establishment, but I would aggressively campaign for the notion that no one I am affiliated with ever go there or even drive past the place for any reason other than shouting scorn on the employees and demanding reparations for every customer that has ever unwittingly crossed the threshold of this hell hole. read more

This place is a classic. We love it. My Dad visited us in December, and he had to come back a couple times during his stay. My family are darn near regulars now! Our usual waitress, Sherrie, makes you feel at home as soon as you walk through the door. She remembers us by face, and even asked another waitress off so she could take care of us. And I mean, take care of. We have all been to places that "wait" on you, but Sherrie takes a personal interest in you and reminds you why you go to a diner in the first place--good comfort food, big portions and to be treated like family! read more

Here we have a '50s-style diner on the south side of town. The neighborhood is a little rough, but the place itself is inviting. They do have a large menu, and I can't speak for many of the dishes. It's standard diner fare, and it tastes pretty good. It's also easy to get a table during high-demand times for diners, like Saturday and Sunday mornings, when even the Waffle House is full. Yes, it has a 50s diner feel, but there isn't a portrait of James Dean nor a neon Coca Cola sign anywhere, thank god. Very Good Food. Just stopped in for breakfast. Waitstaff was extraordinarily friendly. Menu was larger than expected. Nice range of options. Excellent prices. I had eggs, home fries and ham. Just about perfect. My wife had a waffle which she declared very good. Coffee was OK. The crowd was mixed and friendly if a bit loud. My only reason for not giving this four stars ( I am a BIG fan of old-style diners) is that it just wasn't very clean. Don't get me wrong, the table, tableware and dishware were just fine. Dan's is nothing more than a diner. That's its a simple diner(which Columbus seems to lack). Its not a four star restaurant or some trendy new age restaurant. With that being said, the food and service is very good. Also, the menu is huge and they serve breakfast all day. They also serve sundaes, desserts, and ice cream. Pretty decent little diner. I go here for lunch very often, mainly because my bosses go here. I often get the Greek Village Salad with chicken, which is filled with fresh vegtables and a tasty greek dressing. Their omelettes are nice sized and come with potatoes and toast for well under $10.00. Its not fancy dining, but is a great value. I went there to meet an old friend for breakfast around 7:30am. It was seat yourself and the waitress was nice. He got french toast and I had gotten blueberry pancakes. They forgot his cinnamon and I didn't have butter. I drowned my food in syrup so it helped with the dryness, but his was off flavored and he only ate half a triangle out of the 6 they gave him. I was happy to hear when Dan's Drive In was remodeled and reopened. I went a couple years ago and was completely floored with the atmosphere! I got the pork chop dinner which was EXCELLENT! I like that they serve breakfast all day and actually met a couple people eating at the bar. They said they go there on the same day every week for their pancake breakfast. :) I was very happy withe overall experience and have gone back a few times. I've tried to like this place but I can't. The servers never check for refills on your drinks. Even when I've sat at the counter the servers ignore me unless I ask for a refill.My order is wrong too often. I ordered a meat omelet and asked to add onions and mushrooms. It comes back with no meat. I ordered the meatloaf stack and no mashed potatoes or onions. The server didn't even know the vegetable of the day, although it was past lunchtime. Columbus is filled with fine dining. It's fun but sometimes you just need cheap food where you can sit down. The food is nothing special, it's good and the menu is too large allowing you to order pretty much whatever you'd want. The decor is 50's style shiny, bright and clean. They just built a patio too. The neighborhood really isn't that bad. Maybe it used to be but I feel perfectly comfortable taking a young child there. It's a very family friendly establishment. All our servers have been extra attentive. It's a good little joint to check out. The atmosphere is fun. read more

Service is way better when their super busy and absolutely horrid when their not busy. I believe that the boisterous red haired lady has something to do with better service because she is their on Saturday morning's and i see and hear her managing whose getting next table she floats and expidites the food and she clearly is the best at keeping tables clean. I've been here on slow days such as this sunday afternoon. We walk in all tables dirty a line of us at door to which no one bothers to greet and there are only about 6-7 occupied tables and im being generous in my guess. They seat us and take our drink order and this was a young pleasant girl. She promptly delivers our drinks and i think she said Rhonda would be our server. A long time went by before she stopped to get our order no greeting no smile no eye contact and off she disapears. Food came out fast and brought by someone else. breakfast cold as usual, but i ordered something different this time which was not good. I ordered gyro and fries. The gyro meat is prepackaged crap like you buy from frozen section at grocery store, barely any sauce on it no feta cheese best thing i can say is the lettuce on it was fresh. Never came back to check on us till we were done so if you like coffee you best order a water too or you will go thirsty, but only when its slow and that main server lady isn't there to help. Take note of my picture today...after looking around for our server who spent most her time hanging out with long haired dude in kitchen a young girl could see we were ready and told our server who came to fill our empty cups but we were done so I asked for box and bill. After awhile of her sitting at counter shooting the crap with her coworkers i felt compelled to take a picture of her just sitting there. Note to server you got a dollar because i was a server for a long time and i cant bring myself to stiff a server, but he had no plans of tipping her and for a valid reason she was not friendly, she was not helpful, she was not interested in being a server at all today. Worst service experience here but not the only one and he vows we will not go back. One more note she waited on the table behind us and she left them alone too, but there was one big group of guys that had been sitting there the whole time and she seemed to like them enough to stand and chat for awhile on several occasions so maybe if your a table of just guys you get good service from her. As diners go, I'd say it's an easy four stars. They have a huge menu with just about anything. I had the open faced turkey sandwich and my wife had the open faced meatloaf sandwich. I made quick work out of my meal. It did not seem like anything truly homemade, but it was good. Now, I don't like meatloaf but I did try my wife's meal and the meatloaf was pretty good.
