Típico Café Latino (Típico Latino Restaurant), 566 Barton Boulevard, Rockledge, Florida- 5-Stars Although the Hispanic population in Brevard County as of 2022 is a mere 11.6%, their restaurants must make up 35% of the restaurant inventory. Now that I have dined at so many Latin establishments, I feel I am starting to discern the good, the bad, and the horrific. Recently I found myself in Rockledge walking into the unassuming Tipico Café Latino. The place didn't look like much to me at first, and since the most obvious definition of "típico" in English means "typical," I was concerned. Later when I found out that "típico" when referring to food is more about how such a dish represents the most famous local flavor of a region, the name made perfect sense. The food prepared here is the real deal and it's truly outstanding. Don't let the ambiance of this small saloon deter you. Elise is the owner and personally sees to the comfort of her guests. She and her chef are from the Dominican Republic, and their website states that Dominican cuisine has been influenced by indigenous Dominicans as well as settlers from Spain, Africa, Asia, the Middle East, Canary Islands, Cuba, Puerto Rico, Haiti (next door on the shared island of Hispaniola), and Hungary. They further indicate that flavor contributions have been made by Sephardic Jews, slaves brought to the Republic by the French in the 17th Century, and freed Blacks who fled from the United States in the 19th Century. From the Menú Típica Latino, I ordered the Típico Fried Platter, and I strongly suggest you do the same. It has everything: Fried Pork, Fried Chicken, Longaniza (Spanish sausage), Salami, Fried Cheese, Casava, and Tostones. Amazing! As the Dominican Republic is only 57 miles southeast of Cuba, it is not surprising that there are also a few expressly classic Cuban dishes on the menu. One of these is the Ropa Vieja/ Shredded Stewed Beef and Vegetables. The rice accompanying this "típica" Cuban dish was cooked perfectly. The beef itself was so tender, its juices so flavorful, that for a moment I experienced zoanthropy, becoming one of Pavlov's dogs salivating just remembering this experience. I pull myself together, remembering I am a human man, and wipe the slobber off my jowls with a towel. THIS IS A BIG BOY MUST TRY! I had the bifongo with Carne Frita , the bifongo had great taste but the carne frita was not that tasty , I've had better. Service was amicable but not great. Place is quite but can use some organization , did not have a great feel. read more

Had lunch today with my husband and niece. Our bill was $32. We wanted black beans and rice but was told no black beans. Picked French fries and received frost bit French fries. Husband and I ordered Cuban sandwiches which were okay. Didn't like the amount of onions in the pork. My niece ordered chicken and fries. She wanted fried and was told it was a 20 min process so she got sautéed! Took 30 mins to get our food. The chicken was so dry she had maybe 2-3 pieces. Was on a road trip Saturday and needed some Cuban coffee to keep me awake, so I found this place off of I-95. Looks like a cute family owned cafe with friendly staff, Dominican decor, and very clean. I ordered an espresso and 2 beef empanadas. The coffee was delicious and strong, and fully satisfied my caffeine fix. The empanadas were the BEST I've ever had: fresh crispy pastry dough exterior with tasty beef inside, seasoned perfectly! For the next 3 hours of driving I just marveled at how awesome the espresso and empanadas were. Hope to stop back during my return trip on Monday. read more

So we've seen this place for a while now and it seems to be relatively busy. We were wanting breakfast today so we figured we'd give it a shot. When we walk in there are 4 people in the joint. Not bad, we should get served relatively quickly. Wrong. It took 5 minutes for the server to come to our table. Fantastic! We placed both our food and drink order. He ordered black coffee and I ordered café con leche. It was twenty five minutes after we placed our order that we received our food. Keep in mind we haven't received our drink order yet. We haven't received any drinks, not even water. We waited another three minutes for silverware. Still no drinks. It wasn't until my partner practically begged for water that we received a drink. And then we watched the coffee drinks get made. They were microwaved. To top it off, we never actually received a check. Just a total. Which wasn't a deal breaker. Just unusual. If I could give this place a zero I would. This review is based solely on the manner in which my husband & I were treated. The waitress took the time to converse with another patron and ignore our table in a small restaurant! When she finally attended to us she continued to converse with the other table as I was placing my order. This prompted me to get up and walk out only to be tainted by a sarcastic "thank you, have a nice day". I lived in Miami for over eight years and ate in Little Havana, Hialeah, Coral Gables plus many others and never was treated so inconsiderate. Plus, this is my hometown to be treated so rudely. My wife and I tried this for the first time and really loved it. The lady that waited on us was so friendly and welcoming. The atmosphere in the restaurant was calm and relaxed. The food was excellent. We can a cuban sandwich that was made with all fresh ingredients and had a true authentic taste. We also had the fried chicken and pulpusa. The chicken was crisp and juicy, the pulpusa was very tasty also. The food had a very good homemade taste to it that is lost when you go to bigger chain resturants. Great Latino food, I was looking for a place that had pupussas and baleadas and finally found one. Their cooking is soot on. The staff is wonderful and the price is affordable. They have dishes from Central America, the Caribbean and South America, as well as a excellent cup of coffee. I strongly recommend them and will be a repeat visitor. read more
