The food here is honestly outstanding. The burritos are huge, flavorful, and easily some of the best I've had. The café con leche was also excellent--rich and perfectly made. From a food standpoint alone, I'd absolutely come back. That said, the experience was a bit confusing and ended on a frustrating note. We weren't asked whether our order was for here or to go, and after ordering, our group of five sat down (we pulled together five chairs) and waited for our food. Despite that, everything came out in to-go packaging. When we walked in, we noticed other tables dining in had bottles with three different types of salsa available. However, we were only given a very small portion in a to-go container. I went up to grab a pineapple Jarrito and asked if we could use the salsa bottles since we were eating there. Instead, I was told no and that we had already been given to-go salsa--and they also tried to charge me extra for additional salsa. What made it more frustrating was that when I explained we were dining in, I was told that we had asked for our food to go, which wasn't the case. No one in our group was asked, and we had clearly sat down to eat inside. It felt unnecessarily rigid and dismissive, especially since we brought in a group of five and spent over $70. The food was genuinely great, but the lack of communication and flexibility on the service side made the experience feel awkward and disappointing. As a Cuban Puerto Rican I wanted to try some authentic Cuban food. Vargas Cafe came recommended. The papa rellena was very well seasoned and crunchy. So tasty. The Cuban sandwich was very good. The bread tasted so good. A very good combination of flavors. We came when they first opened and we were the only two guests. We received really good attentive service. Being a minimalist I appreciated that the cafe looked clean and welcoming. Not busy. Simple good food. The cups need to be e replaced but still clean. read more

I don't want to come out and use the dirty little word "liar," but the sign in their window shouts, "HOME OF FLORIDA'S GREATEST CUBAN SANDWICH," which is quite a mighty boast considering all the authentic Cuban-owned restaurants we have in Florida--especially in Miami and Tampa--and the fact that there are zero Cubans preparing and serving food at this Cape Canaveral tourist trap. I might be a Gringo, but I know that Cuban and Mexican food have "nada que ver" with one another. Truth be told, I cannot personally tell you how the Cuban sandwiches here taste because get this: THEY WERE OUT OF CUBAN SANDWICHES! I mean, come on! To be out of your sole signature dish? There was one sandwich left and I got to see it served. I could say it looked like every other Cuban sandwich, but to be honest it didn't look particularly impressive. I've seen better. You might ask, "Hey, Big Boy, what if the Cuban sandwich at the Vargas Café does taste really good, and you just missed out?" Doubtful. Not if it is anything like what I did order off the menu. Ya tu sabes. Since I couldn't try the Cubano, I chose the Pan Con Chorizo. This sandwich was basic, nothing special. The chorizo itself was frozen reheat and the cheese was junk. I also got the Bistec de Pollo, which was not seasoned correctly. The chicken itself was rubbery and overcooked and the garlic was burned instead of sautéed. No bueno. What was worse than the poorly prepared faux fare was the fact that the place smelled like five-day-no-shower-homeless-guy-armpit. Qué fula. This is a small local place in Cape Canaveral. Their sandwiches are bomb. Crispy bread with tons of flavor inside. I got the chicken sandwich (spicy), it a was perfect. I don't have to imagine how their Cuban sandwich is going to be. I would definitely go again. read more

For years, every time I come to town I come here for a Spicy Cuban Sandwich. Yum! The seating is tiny and the volume loud, so get your food to go. The wait can be long so order ahead. They charge more for using a card so bring cash. They also give a military discount but you have to ask and bring your ID. read more

Great Cubana sandwich. It was enormous. This is a must for any local or vacationing group. This small hole in the wall appears to be very popular. Limited indoor seating...maybe 3 tables seating 4, several 2 seaters, and the bar. Free Cuban coffee upon completion of meal. Great service. Must repeat and go back! read more

Don't be fooled by the exterior, this place has great food! I like it enough I hesitate at posting a review just so I can make sure I can get a seat in this tiny location! I've tried about 6 different dishes and each one was very tasty! I've brought friends and co-workers here and made them fans as well. Alberto is very friendly and the food is cooked to order each time. Try some of his Cuban espresso after your meal - "it'll put hair on your chest!" I went there specifically for the Cuban sandwich, as I do Cubano reviews on YouTube (goofy, I know, but I love these things). The hype is real, y'all. My husband and I were in Florida for a family trip and snuck away for a one-on-one date. We love trying new flavors and found Vargas Cafe and its great reviews, so we decided to give it a try. The meal I had at Vargas made me so happy I cried. I'm not even kidding, and I don't think I can say that about any other meal. I anticipated leaving very full because we wanted to try many different things. We started with Coco Rico (a delicious coconut-flavored sweet soda) and tamarind Jarritas soda. Then came tostones (fried underripe platanos) and fried yucca, both of which came out with a garlic sauce that went surprisingly well with the crunch and crisp of the fried starches. Our entrees included a cubano and the fried pork entree, which came with salad I hardly touched and rice and black beans. I highly recommend both of these entree options! I finsihed off my meal with Cuban espresso and dreamily told my husband I could now die happy. Everything was cooked so well, seasoned so well, and make my taste buds so happy. Even the beans and rice were a delightful surprise. The Cuban recipe will add in a kind of vinegar to the beans which sets it off beautifully. I ate so much and wished I could have kept going. We still talk about our visit to Vargas, and it will now be an automatic stop on all of our family trips! read more

This little place that you may accidentally miss is a hidden gem! The Cuban sandwich is as authentic as it gets! Perfect place to swing by before the beach. While my Cuban family was in cocoa beach visiting other family for the week we obviously wanted to give Vargas a shot, especially since the other Cuban restaurant here is no bueno. We ordered for about 10 ppl for lunch, Cuban sandwiches we're ok but the media noche pork was horrid for some reason. Of course my abuela is quite picky we called the shop and let them know and asked to get a new couple sandwiches. No problem on the phone but once we returned to the shop the lady became irate and took the sandwich opened it and asked to point out why the meat was bad. There is absolutely no need to have horrible customer service and treat customers this way. Black beans, Maduros, and Cuban Sandwich saved the cafe from a one star. I was hyped up to find this place since! I lived in Miami for years and saw the sign on the window for the Best Cuban Sandwich in Florida, big red flag because nothing beats Miami Cuban sandwiches IMO. I went in and ordered a Cuban and a Cortadito which tasted watery so bad that I asked them to remake it and they did but no change. I also noticed not one single Cuban working there second red flag. Amazing and wonderful spot. We read the reviews and decided to give it a try. Don't let the aesthetics of this restaurant scare you away. It is a "dive" as it is in a strip mall and has maybe four tables and a few counter spots. We came on a weekday for lunch and there was only the owners working but man they were top notch and very hospitable. The food was all yummy! My family got some sandwiches to share and a couple of sides. We had the empanadas, sweet plantains, yucca and papa rellena. All of the food was great! There was a spicy sauce as well that was so delicious! The owner brought my husband an espresso and saw me eye it up and he said "Oh you like coffee too? I will make you one!" Let me tell you that the espresso was the best I ever had! I will probably be talking about the espresso for years to come! It appeared a lot of locals know this place and love it. Came here because of the good reviews and feel misled. Ordered simple breakfast for myself and my bestie; cafe con leche, cuban toast and an order of croquetas. The coffee tasted like the soap they use to clean the machine, the croquetas tasted like old oil they had fried food in multiple times. Toast was okay. However $17 bucks added insult to injury. The lady who took our order and gave us coffee could not care less about any of these issues. Hard pass on this one. read more
