I've been wanting to try Little Greenhouse for quite some time, and I finally made it there this week. I can honestly say it was some of the best soul food I've had in a very long time. It's not easy to find a truly authentic, Black-owned soul food restaurant, and I'm so glad I took a chance on Little Greenhouse Grill. We ordered the shrimp, rib tips, chicken steak with crispy onions, mac and cheese, and collard greens, and every single dish was absolutely wonderful. Huge congratulations to the chef, because this was real, authentic soul food done right. This is exactly the kind of food this town has been missing. The truth is I bought a Groupon coupon. We stopped for a late lunch one afternoon on the way home from somewhere. It was fairly empty, some people waiting for their take-away and one other diner. The waitress was great, paying lots of attention to us as she had her hands filled with other things. My husband ordered the shrimp and grits. It comes with buttered toast. When we said we did want that, she immediately offered cornbread. I had the barbeque chicken. My own piece of cornbread was a lovely surprise. The sides, beans, collards, traditionally cooked with pork are prepared with smoked turkey - I could enjoy them! And delicious. The other diner, a regular, told us that he enjoyed the rib tips. I was in the neighborhood with my father and wanted somewhere for lunch. I'd ordered delivery before but never stopped in, and WOW, am I glad I finally did. LGhG is on the corner of NW 3rd Ave & NW 13th St. A small, inviting spot painted in sage green with paintings of legends like Bob Marley on the wall & hip-hop playing in the background. From the moment we walked in, we were warmly welcomed by Shania (our hostess and waitress), who was such a delight and absolute pleasure. My dad settled in front of the TV to watch college football while we dove into the menu. So many tempting choices! I landed on the shrimp & grits, he went with the chicken & waffles, and we shared mac & cheese plus collard greens (made with smoked turkey). Every single bite was an absolute flavor BOMB. My dad, who went to college in South Carolina, kept saying he hadn't had authentic southern food like this in over 50 years. We even met the owner, Nicole, whose huge smile and warm energy made us feel right at home. For dessert, we couldn't resist the peach cobbler... just as heavenly as you'd imagine. It's a cute little place and the service and staff are amazing however I think we caught them on a bad day. The food was over cooked and there were a few pests noticeably crawling around so that made for a not so good experience. My sis suggested this location for her birthday. I hadn't been nor did I have any expectations so I wasn't left super disappointed. But I was underwhelmed for sure. We got here for happy hour, but there's no actual happy hour menu besides the sign out front. You have to ask what the menu includes. Once I remembered everything included, We started with the shrimp and I had the seafood cake for appetizers. The shrimp were seasoned but overly which made them salty. The "krab" in the seafood cake is imitation crab meat. Definitely wasn't a fan. I had two different sangrias for my beverage. Pretty decent. Several things on the menu were unavailable so I opted for the half bbq chicken for my entree with collards and black eyed peas for my sides. The collards were pretty good. The black eyed peas were just ok. The bbq chicken was smoked and the flavors were definitely present. My fav thing I had there. But while we were eating a roach crawled across the wall by our table right behind my sis' head. She grabbed some napkins to kill it so it didn't crawl into her bags on the chair. She waved our server Shania over who I must add was very sweet and did her best. By the time she made it over a second one crawled out. Our appetites were ruined so we asked for the check. The owner or manager is a very mouthy person who doesn't know a damn about customer service or hospitality. A perfect representation of why the Miami food scene is so horrible. The ambiance is very mehhh. It's not very clean. The health inspector needs to make visit. Between shitty service and dirty establishment this place is a complete miss. I was seated within fifteen minutes. I enjoyed my food. I purchased Dreamfire flavored wings with collard greens and yellow rice. The wings were crisp. Everything was seasoned well, but was kind of salty as I got to the end of my meal. I really appreciate that they have some vegetarian and non-red meat green options. Nice little restaurant, very clean && welcoming.... The food was pretty ok... the salmon was a bit small && dry && I didn't like anything about the rib tips. But the conch balls were awesome, nice texture && flavorful. The wings were also a favorite especially the sauce. The sides (mac&&cheese && the collard greens are what I came for && they didn't disappoint, loved them. They didn't have any cocktails (I should've checked beforehand) but said they'll be opening a bigger location that will serve them. We found this restaurant after a day at the beach. I ordered the smoked ribs and they were very tasty. The were slathered in bbq sauce and mustard and were filling. The baked Mac n cheese was fantastic. The candied yams were also tasty with a nice amount of cinnamon. My wife enjoyed her grilled salmon as well. The restaurant is family owned and run. It started as a food truck, but is now a fully functioning restaurant. The ambiance was cool and the service was great. A cozy little restaurant in Overtown with great food! We started with the seafood cakes and the conch fritters! Both were good but I lovd the conch fritters! I ordered the smoked wing dinner with the mango habanero sauce on the side! It was hot! Luckily I had another sauce to dip my wings in. I also had the mashed potatoes and the macaroni and cheese! Everything was delicious! My friend had a salad with grilled shrimp. She said it was good! My meal also came with corn bread, which was so good! Hey everyone I just want to give a review for The Lil Greenhouse Grill. I was in the neighborhood and had a taste for soul food. This was take-out. I ordered short ribs tips, BBQ Chicken dinner with mac & cheese, cornbread & collards. Cornbread comes with the meal and it was on point. . I also ordered lemon pepper chicken with yams & collards. And Peach Cobbler. I was hungry. Again, smelling home cooked food wafting throughout the restaurant. Wonderful. Nicole the owner took my order truly a Boss Lady. I waited a 1/2 hr. for the take-out but it was worth it. The short rib tips were great the BBQ sauce was tasty with a slight smokiness to it; the meat was tender and flavorful. Loved it. Next, I finally got the 1/2 BBQ chicken dinner with mac & cheese and collards. The collards were tender, the mac & cheese was very cheesy and the chicken was moist and tender. The BBQ sauce was the same as the rib tips. Mmmmm I'm licking my fingers couldn't help it. Now for the lemon pepper chicken, it had a real lemony flavor with a little heat to it. Not so much as spicy very mild. The yams have a cinnamon nutmeg flavor. All good. The Peach Cobbler was fantastic! Nicole told me it just came out of the oven. Had to try that right away and boy it didn't disappoint. The Peach Cobbler reminded me of my grandma's Cobbler; it took me back to my childhood. Should've bought two. This place is a gem, the food was delicious the lemon pepper wings was just the right amount of tartness and savory it was seasoned to perfection. the shrimp was crispy and flavorful I had the dream fire sauce on the side and loved it I'm not sure you'll find a sauce like that anywhere else it's sweet tangy with a burst of umami, comparable to the Thai chilli sauce but even better. The greens were perfect not overly seasoned and the Mac was super cheesy. Last but not least the peach cobbler, this was probably the best peach cobbler I'd ever had, it wasn't super sweet the cinnamon and sugar crumbles almost melt in the mouth along with the peaches this dish was an emulsion of decadent flavor. They were fried to perfection. My drink was refreshing and tasty. The manager was so accommodating and definitely made sure we had a great experience. My partner had the ribs which he loved. I had the wings and they were bussing (bursting with flavor) . I ordered the Mac and cheese which was oven backed, filled with cheese, and perfectly seasoned. The star of the show was the collard greens. If you know about greens then you know everyone can't make greens. But these greens tasted like big momma was in the back making them. My wife had the smoky chicken wings, and she loved the flavor. I had the salmon, and it was cooked perfectly. We each had two sides which were all terrific - she had the black eye peas and collard greens, and I had the mac & cheese and green beans. I had never heard of the drink Flop -- it's raspberry ice tea and lemonade -- but it was excellent (and has free refills!). For some time Ive seen them come up in my options so i decided to grab something esp finding that they were so close to where I was. I ended up getting the grilled chicken salad for take out. The staff was very friendly and the decor inside was warm and welcoming. I would def do an eat in on my next visit based on my 1st impressions when picking up. The chicken salad tasted great and was very filling. You get a good amount of food got what you pay for. For my main course I had the seafood cakes ($21) which came with two sides. I chose baked mac & cheese and collard greens. Lil Greenhouse Grill is to its core a fantastic saucy soul food spot. We placed an order for carry out and had high expectations. They were met. We ordered the Riblet appetizer, half chicken entree, & smoked wings entree. Each entree comes with 2 sides and a cornbread. We got mac and cheese, collared greens, and baked beans as sides. The riblet appetizer were chopped pieces of rib tossed in their house sweet BBQ served over a white bread slice soaking up the meat and sauce flavor. These riblets were small but satisfying as an appetizer. I felt like I got my rib craving taken care of without committing to an entire entree. There was an abundance of sauce tossed in them. If you don't like a lot of sauce I suggest letting them know or requesting on the side. The rib meat was smokey and juicy. The half chicken was delectable. Delicious smoked chicken that was juicy and cooked perfectly. Even as takeout the chicken retained its flavor and heat. It is served covered in the house bbq with streaks of a mustard bbq. Expect to get messy with this dish. The size of the chicken is perfect as well. It is enough to feed one person and if you don't eat a lot, you will have a nice piece or two as a leftover to enjoy later. Sides did not cease the fantastic food we had so far. The mac and cheese was great. Not outstanding but it checks most boxes you would want in a mac. I did have it as takeout and imagine it would be elevated eating in house where it's hot. The cheese was thick and the top crust a fantastic caramelization level. The collared greens were perfect. One of the more impressive dishes. The greens were each the perfect consistency. They kept their form and shape while remaining the perfect consistency when you chew. The pork stock used to make them was rich. These were an excellent vegetable side. The baked beans were good, but not great. They tasted similar to Bushes. Bushes still gets the job done but with the previous sides, expectation we're high. Overall, fantastic soul food at this spot. The food was amazing for that event, and getting to know the two business owners was even better. Located in historic Overtown, Lil Greenhouse Grill is serving up food for the soul. It is so good. Last week I was craving wings, so I ordered wings and mac and cheese for dinner. My order was ready in 15 minutes, and a large portion of wings with a side of mac and cheese cost me $14. Upon my first visit I also tried the rib tips, chicken and waffles, and shrimp and grits (which were divine).
