I have a loved one in a nursing facility in North San Diego and the staff there provide the kind of compassionate care that comes with dignity. After experiencing another facility that was so heartbreaking it left me questioning everything. I wanted to do something meaningful to thank this incredible team. A card didn't seem like enough. Flowers fade. But good food? Good food creates memories. I ordered the sisig, pancit, and their famous signature lumpia rolls, along with pandesal from Valerio's. Ordering was a breeze. I placed my order at 9:30 a.m. and picked everything up at 4:00 p.m. Three small trays turned out to be an incredible amount of food. I planned for 10 people, but it fed a whole lot more as many from different units gathered to share. The moment that sealed it for me happened before a single tray was opened. A nurse I had never met walked over and said, "Oh, you went to Tita's. I recognized their lumpia." That gave me chills because I knew I had chosen the right place. The food tasted like it came straight from Mamasan's kitchen, authentic, comforting, and made with love. Omg!!!! San Diego County has got to have the best Filipino food in So California. We were visiting the area and family members suggested we drive over from our hotel and order from Tita's. We were in the Point Loma area close to SD airport and Tita's was about 10 mins away. Getting there was a maze freeway wise and when we got there, while the line was out the door, moved quickly. We ordered several combos and from what I can recall beefsteak, pancit, adobo, lumpia, sinigang and menudo/caldereta were all deeelicious and just like what you'd expect at a filipino party- but better. Despite the restaurant not being as clean or well-maintained as one might expect, many customers, including myself, keep coming back because the food has traditionally been worth it. However, my last two visits have been disappointing. Since I now live more than an hour away, I don't get to visit often, so it's frustrating to make the drive only to find that some of the dishes I specifically came for--such as kalderetang kambing and sisig--were unavailable both times. What made the experience even more disappointing was the wait. The line was long, the weather was hot and sunny, and yet it barely seemed to move. It felt like the staff were in no hurry despite the number of customers waiting outside. I understand that food service can be busy and challenging, but the pace of service was frustratingly slow. The food is still good, and the portions remain generous, but between the limited availability of popular dishes and the lengthy wait times, my recent visits left me wondering whether the trip was worth it. We tried them on a whim and the portions are generous! We had the #1 rice combo with Pinakbet and Ginisang Monggo--delicious and filling! We came around 11:30am, hoping for breakfast but missed it. There was a long line but it moves fairly quick. We also ordered one chicken inihaw that my husband enjoyed. Unfortunately, they ran out of the pork inihaw and had barely started grilling more. The wait time would have been much longer. The costs were around $22 including tax and a Diet Coke. There was plenty of seating but it's first come first serve.The parking lot was chaotic--no surprise there but we were able to snag a spot. Overall, this is a great turo-turo spot! This was our first visit here and we now understand the reason for their incredible reputation. My mom's father was Filipino but, unfortunately, didn't know anything about the culture or food. My husband had beef adobo and he loved the savory and juicy meat. My mom tried the chicken adobo and she was very impressed. I chose the kare-kare, simply because someone recommended it. Always excellent Filipino food here. The line is always out the door on Saturdays. Many families coming to eat Saturday and Sunday breakfast and lunch. My Husband and I came to pickup 100 tray lumpia and large tray pancit for a family party event. To pickup preordered catering, you enter through the ice cream counter door (door closest to Valerio's Bake Shop next door). That way, you can pay by card and they will bring your catering order out on a cart. This was the shortest time we waited to pickup catering and it was great. You definitely want to come early if you plan on ordering here because the food sells out fast and the lines can get crazy. That alone should tell you how good this spot is. I never remember the names of half the dishes here, so I usually just ask them what's good and try something new every time. So far, everything I've ordered has been a hit. The pancit and rice are a must though. I order those every time. The chicken adobo is really good too! If you get overwhelmed trying to decide, they do have combos which makes it a bit easier. But if you're a real foodie and willing to take a little risk trying something new, this place is fire. Tita's in National City never disappoints!! Best sinigang there is :) they are quite generous with the sabaw and gulay as long as you ask! I also order lumpia here, especially when I am catering for parties. I typically call the day before and morning of to confirm my order for pick up. They are long pieces and def worth the cost. They serve other delicious Filipino cuisines as well that remind me of my childhood. An honorable mention goes to the prom and chicken bbq. Wow, husband and I are still trying to figure out how we missed this place when we came to the bakery a couple of doors away! So I was craving a certain Filipino dish, diniguan. And most of the ones I have tried does not compare to moms cooking. Because of mom's health she no longer cooks.... Husband was so kind listening to my food cravings and doing research, he found this place. First, this place is located in strip mall mostly made of food stops. Secondly and importantly, the parking is no joke! Come early and watch where you park. The parking is not plenty and the area is narrow, making it a challenge to see when pulling in or out of a parking space. When you get out of your car your sensory will be on overload on the aromas that seem to hook you by the nostrils! You walk in the restaurant and you will see the tables most likely all taken. How it works is you walk up to food counter and select what items you want. They offer different platter options. It was a lot going on up the food menu on the wall above the staff. Behind the counter it is well staffed so even though the line may be long it moves pretty quickly. Husband and I decided to go with a two item platter. My platter I choose half and half (rice and noodles) . My two items were chicken adobo and diniguan. We got an order of lumpia too. I found the chicken adobo to be pretty good! The chicken portion was pretty good. With chicken adobo there seems never to be enough of the sauce to saturate the rice. The diniguan to my surprise passed the test! It was tasty and had the right balance of flavors! I saved half to share with mom and she liked just as well. A plus for us is they serve seltzer (soda water)! They do have a self serve water station off to the side. The lumpia was good, but I probably would try one of the skewers next time. I forgot to mention that we had to ask to share a space at a table with another couple as there were no more open tables. They gladly shared. There are not outdoor seating. Came in at midday to a line of about 15 people in front of me. After trying titas, I can see why they're always busy. I got a two item combo and opted for the pork adobo and the chicken curry for my two items. I opted for the half rice and half pancit, and added a few lumpias. While checking out, I've noticed barbecue chicken skewers being cooked over an open fire, and added that as well. They were very generous with the portion sizes, easily making one combo good for three to four meals. My favorite was the barbecue chicken skewer, which was perfectly flame grilled and tender. The pieces of chicken on the skewer were big and it was a long full skewer. The lumpia were full size lumpia, long and flavorful. Pricing was on point, about $17 for a 2 entree. I got half pancit and half white rice. My friend suggested I get half rice cuz I wanted all pancit. He said the food is going to be salty so white rice will help. I'm glad I did! For entree I got chicken adobo and sinagang. My husband got pork adobo and pork bbq. We were not disappointed with our choices. And yes, the food is a bit salty, but it's delicious. White rice definitely helps mellow out the salt. We also got a side of 5 lumpia. Nice and crunchy. Next time I'll be a little bit more adventurous and try other things. My friend loves the kare kare. And they ran out of sisig. Darn. We ate it there and had more than enough for leftovers. I was down in National City over Labor Day weekend and decided to revisit Tita's. It has been a few years, but it is everything I remember: small parking lot, long line, but insane portions. I arrived around 3ish so not a lot of selection. I got a two-item rice combo: pork steak (used to be beef steak so not sure if they ran out of beef or beef is too expensive now) and chicken Adobe. Food was friendly fresh, oily and hot. I thought it was a bit saltier than I remember, but I love the vinegar tang in the adobo and soup. Prices have gone up quite a bit over the years. Very well cooked but be aware, some of it can be greasy. I don't think anyone eating the food really cares cause when it hits my tastebuds and transports me back to my Tita's and my Lola's cooking from way back when. There are chairs and tables to use but it's not often you find a lot of people eating there, it's mostly take out. The ambiance could be updated a lot and would really let this place sing!
