It's a love hate relationship I have with Las Isla Filipinas but I still keep coming back! I've been coming here a few years now and it's sooooooo painful placing a phone order and waiting for the food! But the food is good! Isn't that a crap shoot?!? [[HIGHLIGHT]]They're always hosting birthday parties here. There has never been a time I've been here that there wasn't at least three birthdays being celebrated with karaoke! Which makes it extremely loud inside.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] So if you come here, be prepared to wait. We haven't actually dined in here since we found this place during the pandemic. But we've been here plenty of times. The fastest way is to phone in your order and then burn time getting there and it may be ready by the time you get there. There have been times I've told them, their phone isn't working. So when that happens you have no choice but to go there and place your order... and wait. Pluses and minuses of both. Phone in order - faster, but 50/50 chance of your call going through. If it does, it's so loud inside, you wonder if they can hear your order and now your shouting on the phone too! If you place a small order than you may not need to pay over the phone. We always order a ton of food so it's upwards of $100. Which require you to pay beforehand. So now you're trying to give them your credit card number and they can barely hear you and shouting it back to you over the phone. The worst if you didn't want the whole world shopping on your credit card. Then comes the waiting. It's always a min of 30 mins before your food is ready. We've waiting over an hour when it's busy. Sucks, but it's worth it. I was so in love with this place at first. On our very first visit I order the lumpia of course, but is not great. I was so sad. But then I discovered their sisig. I don't like anyones sisig and I love theirs! It's crisp and clean tasting and they make it to your spiciness level. They have cut down the portion since Covid, and we always end up ordering two orders so we can get our fill. The chicken adobo is good, but tons of bones. I like the pork adobo better. The garlic fried rice is a favorite staple of mine. It's simple, and so good. We've tried both the Pancit Bihon (rice noodles) and Pancit Canton (egg noodles). I usually like the rice noodles better, but it was just meh. The Canton with egg noodles was better. After searching for a vegetarian/pescatarian friendly spot open after 7pm, I popped into Las Islas Filipinas to give it a try. I was warmly greeted by staff and seated right away. I met Susan, the owner, who was so friendly and helpful with recommendations on what to order. This is THE SPOT for some post-work karaoke! I was asked by staff if I wanted to sing and was handed a slip of paper/pencil to fill out my song request. Although I didn't sing, I had a great time listening to all the folks that did; many of whom had such incredible voices! I would like to note, for folks who have hearing sensitivities, to come prepared with hearing protection/ear plugs, as the music volume is cranked up during later hours. (Protect your precious hearing!) I ordered the noodles with seafood and had also tried the fried calamari and the Bangus sisig. The crispy calamari with the accompanying sauce was simply delicious and the bangus sisig was also fresh and tasty. We were in San Diego for a quick overnight visit, had already had appetizers and then saw this place on Yelp. Off we went, and we were thrilled when our Uber driver said he had picked someone up from that restaurant and he looked like he had a great time, sang in the car all the way home! So with this whole COVID thing its been hard to find a dine in place open until 10 pm let alone be Filipino Food. One night at work my coworker had the privilege of his mother bringing him Filipino Food. He let us try it and I was like - 'it's the bomb!' It was probably 10 or 11 at night and I insisted he ask him mom where she got this amazing food so late. This little story is what brought me to Las Islas Filipinas! On the a craving - I said to my daughter let's check this place out. Well damn, it was worth the drive and dine in. The restaurant is located in a random mini shopping plaza. It was a little dark outside and quiet. But once inside it feels like you are in a small island restaurant paradise! I have never been to the PI - but I imagine it would be like this place with the beach scape wall paper, bamboo decor and beaded curtains. They even offer Karaoke of Friday and Saturday which I hope to check out. Anyhow, the food. That's the real news. The entrees we got are staples of Filipino Cuisine - Kare Kare, Chicken Adobo and Sisig. We got fried chicken livers with fries as well. We thought it was an interesting thing on menu. Every single time I take a bite of the turon, I swear, it's so heavenly. I always have to tell my husband how it's my damn favorite turon. It's always freshly fried to perfection, soft on the inside, and perfectly sweet. It's divine. All you have to know is that you must try it. It's so addicting. Deep fried calamari. I could eat a whole order by myself in one sitting. So freakin' good. Everything about it. Sisig so refreshing. Not oily or greasy just perfectly crunchy and citrus-y. Pinakbet with lechon kawali. I was craving Kare kare in the area and the last hot food place I stopped at was out so I decided to stop here due to the good Yelp reviews. I didn't realize this was an order in restaurant until I arrived but decided to try it out. I ordered kare kare and caldereta to go. It wasn't like they were extremely busy but still took close to half an hour to get our items. The portions are a bit skimpy- the taste was pretty good but the kare kare had only ONE piece of tripe! Had an awful experience here on a Friday night. I wish I could speak about the quality of the food, but the truth is I can't because my family and I left the restaurant after waiting an hour for our order before we decided to leave. We ordered 4 items -- the sizzling sisig, kare kare, garlic rice and sizzling calamari, and not a single one of them rolled out within the hour. Before we decided to leave, we asked our server how much longer the food would be, and we were told that they haven't even started on our food and that other tables' orders were still ahead of ours. That's when we decided to just pay for our drinks and leave. I'm sure the quality of the food is good based on other reviews but management has to get it together. We ordered the sizzling mixed seafood and pinakbet with shrimp only. The sizzling seafood was so delicious. The squid was not rubbery, it was perfect! The pinakbet was fresh, the vegetables weren't cooked to death and was still green and had a bit of crunch. I don't like eating mushy eggplant or okra. We mentioned that we did not eat pork or beef.. The food actually tastes pretty close to home. The timpla is what I wanted it to be and I don't say that about many Filipino restaurants. I mean shoot, I'm even taking the time to review it. The food service is honestly slow, but the staff are very friendly. I got the impression there are only 2 cooks in the kitchen and they kept getting phone orders while we were there so it's all good. We're out of towners and of course Yelp brought us here because of "good" reviews. I don't want to leave bad reviews but I was really disappointed, I guess I expected too much. First, the food: Calamari was overcooked it tasted burnt. Beef steak, smothered with onion I can hardly see the beef. Service: BAD. As soon as we came the lady was rushing us to order our drinks (it wasn't busy at all) she kept asking "anong drinks niyo? Anong drinks niyo?" while obviously we were still browsing on their menu, I was trying to keep my temper that I told my husband just to order anything coz the server is rushing us. As soon as were "almost done" I asked for some container for our leftovers, she came with the container handed it to me and I was surprised to see her come with a basin and started taking the dishes away that almost tilted our table while I was still transferring the leftovers to our to go boxes. I really think it was so rude I have to say something "I have not even paid yet and you're already cleaning our table, I have never been to any restaurant in my entire left that has done this!" Not because I asked for containers it means were done eating, she didn't even bother asking us "are you done?" before she starts taking our plates away. And if you're Pinoy this is where you can go to get family party vibes sans drama LOLLL We met up with friends and brought my in laws. I'm so glad we came.
