I've been coming to Jochi for years but have never done a review and it's long overdue. My go-tos for Filipino food for sure in San Diego are a certain place in Nat'l City that has a "Kitchenette" and Jochi. As far as Jochi I've never been disappointed with their food. Everything has always been delicious. I think the key to a Filipino joint is the turnaround of food. Usually there's a line of people waiting to get their food so the cooks are always churning out freshly cooked food. The key is to not have the food just sitting for a long time and that is the case at Jochi. For this recent trip I got a plate that includes either rice or pancit and 2 items. I got half and half of rice and pancit an pinakbet as my 1st item and sisig as my 2nd. Both the pinakbet and sisig here have always been some of my favorites. Both are full of flavor and never disappoint. Also, Jochi's portions are always huge! This day I ate at the restaurant and for sure I had leftovers. I almost forgot to mention that I asked for a complimentary sabow (soup). It's the soup from their sinigang. As they ladle the soup into the container they sometimes (usually) includes chunks of pork which is very much appreciated. Jochi will always have a customer in me. Lumpia, Lumpia I love you!!!! Man it's really great here and for takeout it holds its crispiness! The noodles are awesome Pancit, super good! The staff is friendly and it's more like a buffet style you pick and can sit or get takeout! It's an in and out place so if you're looking for ambiance this isn't your spot. They have the taste of delicious lutong bahay, and place is so clean! Most of all, aunties there are so nice, and so as the owner! Twice we've been there for breakfast and kuya without any hesitation offered us coffee for free! I've also observed whenever we go there, there's this one person they always feed for free. There's always a line when I come in. Most people get their food to go. I have never eaten there because it seems awkward. I find it a bit uncomfortable when people hover around you while you eat. Anyway, most workers here are pretty friendly, others; not so much. The food is actually pretty good, but I've found the prices are the most expensive of all the Filipino take-out places I've been to, and their portion sizes are pretty small. But of course I come because their food is consistently flavorful and no one quite makes paksiw na lechon like they do. Their sisig is also pretty delicious. Customer service here was really disappointing. An employee initially started helping me, but then stopped to assist her friend in line, so another employee had to take over. My favorite spot for Filipino food. A hidden gem even many Filipino's don't know about this spot but when I tell them & they try it they love it. Many know about the other Filipino spots like Titas, Seafood City & others but unless you live in Chula Vista you might not know about Jochi Resto but you should know about them & try it. Their shop is next to a SeaFood City ironically enough. Customer service is good, fast & friendly, small inside but clean & most people take their food to go. As far as the food goes, it's very good, fresh & very flavorful. Portions are very good & prices are good considering they give good portions. The Lumpia & Pancit are really good & so is the Chicken Adobo, Lechon & their rice is very fluffy. My favorite here is Pork Sisig, love it! It's the Filipino version of Mexican Carnitas but more pure, clean & not as greasy. It comes already mixed with diced purple & green onions lime & cilantro. So if your Mexican & want to save money on carnita tacos, this is your tip for this review, get Pork Sisig here then go to North Gate (or any Mexican grocery store) & get corn Tortillas & Queso Fresco go home & make your own Carnita tacos with maybe some Pancit on the side :) Overall I really like this place & they got a happy customer in me. This establishment is located at a very busy plaza and 95% of the stores are either run by or owned by Filipino's. Once you walk in, it smells and feels like the Philippines Parking is plenty and there are NO restrooms at all. It is a bit dirty, meaning the tables and floor as people have to bus themselves and the staff does not clean the tables so if you spill on the table, you are expected to wipe it down. The ambiance is ok as the crowd is mixed between Filipino, white and Hispanic that come in and dine. The tables are really close to each other and It was a bit uneasy eating when people are soo close to each other. I guess it was just stroke of the luck when we dined in there were two ladies next to us that were really loud and obnoxious and had no care in the world who heard them talking smack. The food menu changes constantly so there a variety and all sorts to eat. They give plenty of food per serving. 2 cupful of rice that looks like it will feed a small family, 2 different types of entree as it is very plentiful as well and a small bowl of soup. Water is self service by they have a variety of cans as well as Asian drinks in a can to buy. The reason I give this only 3 stars is because t you have to clean the tables before you eat, bus it again after you eat and there are no restroom for the restaurant. The food is excellent, inside is a no, so I suggest you order your food to go and enjoy it elsewhere. If it were just for the food, I would give it 4 stars however, the dining experience is subpar to what we have experienced at other places. read more

Wasn't able to get to the food... stood in line for about 10min with the lines merging. It's the dine in line and the walk in line and vice the ladies who work there telling people to wait their turn they continue to only check out the dine in line. Maybe it's because I wasn't Filipino that I was treated like this but there was no friendly service or prioritizing of walk ins unless you were dining in. I've had one one too many bad experiences at this place. Once, I stood in front of their food choices waiting for someone to help me. There were at least three ladies behind the counter and none of them would make eye contact and they all chatted amongst themselves - no one helped or asked me what I wanted to order. I left without ordering. I thought that maybe after many months to give it another try. I ordered over the phone for take out. It was for catering. I called the day before and was advised to call on the day of. I called on the day of and was told to call 20 minutes before. I called 20 min before and ordered. On my way to pick up the order, I get a call from them and they asked me what time I was picking up the order. ??? I got there and they gave me attitude because they said they didn't know what time I was picking up the order. Never again. I order and get my food from Grill City. I've been going here for about a decade now, and it's still smack! The food is oily, but fat is flavor. I usually order the lechon cebu, but it's not available until 11:00 am, so I wasn't able to order it this time. At least it's offered every day, as years ago it was only available on the weekends. No doubt it's a 10/10 rating! My other recommendations are the mendo, bisteak, sisig, bopis, and garlic rice. All are an 8/10 rating. I love how the Filipino food spots within National City and Chula Vista give huge portions, unlike any other spot located northbound, such as Fredcel's in City Heights and all of the eateries within Manila (Mira) Mesa. The vibe here is chill, as the set-up is similar to Panda Express. Check out the video below, as we've ordered party trays for a family gathering, and they were able to accommodate my request for pick-up at 9:30 am. The is by far my favorite place for Filipino food. Everything hits. My favorites from here are the Singang which has tender pork and veggies and just the right amount of sour. I was here about a month ago and a manager or owner was telling at their employees in front of customers. This is not the Philippines and you should treat your employees with respect. If they didnt report you for mistreatment it is because they have something to lose so I am here to share this for those who care about those who work here. If your angry that the workers did not do something properly then lead them by example.Take them somewhere private and let them know. Show them how to correctly do whatever it is you wanted. And if after that they did not learn or grow, then find a replacement. If you continue to scold your employees especially in front of customers I hope someone buys you out.
