    CHICKEN ADOBO
    Rose G.

We got three bowls: longanisa, adobo, and Sisig. The adobo didn't taste like authentic adobo I've usually had, although it's not too bad. The Sisig was very flavorful! The best was the longanisa with vinegar. It even had an egg which gave it the perfect pair. The only thing we weren't too happy about was the garlic rice. It didn't taste like garlic rice and had a bitterness to it. Ordering is outside at the window and there's outdoor seating. For parking, we had to find one on the street. Service was great also! We came on a Friday evening around 6pm and many of their items were already sold out. We'll definitely come back to try more though.

Sisig bowl with rice. Amazing. The calamansi ice tea was delightful. Cool spot and friendly service.

I'm a bit biased; but I love rice, garlic, and eggs. I was not expecting to like this place that much, but I would definitely come back. I would probably order ahead of time as we did wait a bit. It's outdoor setting so you have the very relaxed and chill vibe or Normal Heights.

    Mai K.

We tried this place recently -- my boyfriend got the pork sisig and I got the longanisa bowl. Both were pretty good, but nothing too special considering the price. The flavors were solid, and everything was cooked nicely, but for almost $50 total, it felt a little pricey for a small bowl of rice, egg, and protein. They actually gave me the wrong order at first (chicken instead of longanisa). When I asked, they said it was longanisa, but I ended up bringing it back and waiting another 10 minutes for the correct one. Overall, the food isn't bad -- it's tasty and satisfying -- just not something I'd go out of my way for. It's a cute spot with minimal seating, and I'd probably come back if I was nearby or craving longanisa, but not as a regular stop.

I have been here 3 other times before, usually when I can't drive to Mira Mesa or National City for better Filipino food. At first look the pork sisig was underwhelming. The pork was in big chunks of cubes and really tough to chew. It hurt the roof of my mouth chewing it. The flavor itself is NOT good, it feels like it was just thrown in some soy sauce and mayo. It had no citrusy taste whatsoever. This feels like eating day old pork with mayo and onions. The worst part is the fried egg on top was undercooked, the egg whites were clear and still runny! I was 2 bites in when I noticed the RAW egg white. got their lumpia also, that was very mid. I am frustrated to have spent money on this

I've been eating at White Rice since their original location at Liberty Station. Their ube pandesal and ube jam are consistently their best item pairing and a personal 5/5 for me. I also like their different -silog options, including their tocilog & longsilog here, and my partner and I enjoyed them paired with their calamansi iced teas. Unforch they seem to be inconsistent with their food stock here! :'-( Was in San Diego for a week & there were about 3 instances throughout the week (Tues Wed Thurs) when we called to see if an item were in stock, and it was supposed to be in but was further delayed. This seems consistent with other reviews on here, and I recommend calling ahead to make sure what you want is available as a result. Side street parking + outdoor seating, and some cute Filipino decor at the order window.

So good is tasty. I recommend the most popular ones. I had the chicken adobo, and that was definitely a hit. We were there on a weekday evening and felt the wait was too long. There are some tables, but this is a small take out joint. I recommend going when it's not dinner time

It's a great use of a small space. I like the walk up window and outdoor seating. Every time I have been, they are always out of stuff. I tried to order the special posted on the window, it was out. My recommendation would be to not advertise it, if you don't have it. The food is made to order, the service was pretty quick. I tried the chicken adobo and it is a good amount of chicken. Overall, it's a little over priced in my opinion.

I've had white rice bodega many times, since they first opened up in Normal Heights. I absolutely loved the pork sisig bowl. I've pretty much tried all the other bowls - longanisa (a close second), lechon kawali, adobo, and mushroom/tofu sisig. The others were alright, so I always stuck with the pork sisig. Things have changed since they first opened. In the beginning we were offered a neighborhood discount. Eventually portions seemed smaller, and no more neighborhood discounts. Price increased $15 in 2023 to $16 in 2024. The discounts are nbd, but sad to see the portion decrease while the price increase, from the bigger black to-go containers to smaller cardboard bowls. I no longer live in NH, so I don't frequent white rice as often. I visited last week, first time in a long time. Surprised to see that a bowl is $17 and you now have to pay extra for an egg, $3 when I was ordering online for pick up. Disappointing, as that seems quite steep for an egg. Opted to fry my own egg at home to avoid paying $40 for 2 bowls, tax/tip not yet included. Quality has seemed to change a bit too? Wasn't as flavorful as I remember, and was a bit on the dry side. Service seemed meh now, as my bf said the kid at the front looked up from his phone as he approached the window to pick up and said "yo" and nothing else. Lol. Miss the friendly faces and service we used to see often.

    McDo Happy Meal
    Gwen G.

I tried the $9 McDo Happy Meal, which includes a longganisa slider, lumpia, and a drink. It was such a steal for a happy hour option. The longganisa slider was savory with a slightly sweet finish, and the lumpia came out hot and crispy. For drinks, I really enjoyed the ube milk tea. It had a bold ube flavor and just the right amount of sweetness without feeling overpowering. If you prefer something less sweet, I recommend the calamansi iced tea. It has a bright citrus taste that's super refreshing. We waited about 15 minutes for our food after ordering, which initially felt a little long. That said, everything came out steaming hot and fresh, so it ended up being worth it. The seating area is perfectly positioned for people watching. Overall, it's a fun, affordable spot that I'd definitely come back to.

I WANTED TO LIKE THIS PLACE (2 stars) ... BUT as a Filipino it just doesn't manifest up to what my heart wants it to be. 1) First time I actually didn't drive by the place was during Taste of Adam's Avenue. I was thrilled to see it on the list and as I lined up for a sample we had a choice of sweet corn bread OR beans. Nothing Filipino related and thought that event would have been perfect to introduce the restaurant and Filipino food to the community. That was a disappointment. 2) Second time I planned to order a meal but then didn't want to spend the price for something I can easily make at home (and likely better). But I did stop in for some Shanghai Lumpia and THAT was a disappointment. If Shanghai Lumpia can't meet up to expectation then there is no encouragement to buy anything more here. The Shanghai lumpia had ~6 pieces and they were kind of soggy, not much filling, the filling inside was meh in flavor, and the oil it's fried in tasted old as if it needed a change out. I do give them kudos for making their residency in Normal Heights and tapping the crowd there but I'm not drawn to come and eat my own people's food. Sorry, I really did want to like this place but it's falling short for me.

It was my first time trying White Rice Bodega. I've passed by We ordered the ube pandesal, sisilog and longganisa. I also tried the calamansi iced tea. Everything we had was AMAZING. As compared to many other filipino places though, the servings are smaller, but not to the point that I believe it was overpriced. They cook everything to order so it took a bit for food to come out, but the staff were all very friendly and provided recommendations as we asked. White rice bodega IS a bodega so everything is just outside. There were ample seats with umbrellas, but it is fairly exposed to the streets of university heights. One time we came back though and it was really weird--they were open and all but they told us they had no food due to a delivery issue. It seems like a total one off but was honestly very confusing to me why they remained open in general. Overall, still really love this place and can't wait to try more food!

Delicious fast casual Filipino food! The staff was super friendly and helpful with recommendations / questions. The flavors are bold and the portions are large. 10/10 recommend and will be back to try more items from the menu. There's no indoor portion of the restaurant but a little outdoor seating and great option for takeout.

I have a loved one in a nursing facility in North San Diego and the staff there provide the kind of compassionate care that comes with dignity. After experiencing another facility that was so heartbreaking it left me questioning everything. I wanted to do something meaningful to thank this incredible team. A card didn't seem like enough. Flowers fade. But good food? Good food creates memories. I ordered the sisig, pancit, and their famous signature lumpia rolls, along with pandesal from Valerio's. Ordering was a breeze. I placed my order at 9:30 a.m. and picked everything up at 4:00 p.m. Three small trays turned out to be an incredible amount of food. I planned for 10 people, but it fed a whole lot more as many from different units gathered to share. The moment that sealed it for me happened before a single tray was opened. A nurse I had never met walked over and said, "Oh, you went to Tita's. I recognized their lumpia." That gave me chills because I knew I had chosen the right place. The food tasted like it came straight from Mamasan's kitchen, authentic, comforting, and made with love. Staff members kept stopping by to thank us, and my only conidition, "Make a plate for the receptionist. He's awesome too." That is what great food does. It creates connection. If you're feeding family, friends, coworkers, or an entire care team, Tita's Kitchenette delivers more than delicious Filipino food. They help you show appreciation in a way people will remember. We went on a Saturday night and were seated right away. Our server, Carol, was super sweet and made our first visit even better. Even though I had practically memorized the menu already, I still had her explain everything and give us her recommendations. She shared her favorites, what's popular, and even what customers don't usually order. She felt very genuine and honest and never once seemed like she was trying to upsell us. Then I looked over and saw Chef Tara. I had already told my friends about her, only to find out they follow her on Instagram too. Eventually, we worked up the courage to talk to her, and she was incredibly nice. She took her time answering our questions about Filipino culture and explaining how her dishes came about. You can really feel her passion and pride in her work. I truly admired that. And the food? WOW. Easily the best meal I've had in 2026. It's been a week and I'm STILL thinking about it. I knew I wanted to write a review, but I honestly didn't expect the experience to exceed my expectations this much. Love at first bite. We started with the Tuna Kinilaw, Carpaccio, and Crispy Pig Ears. Carol taught us how to eat the kinilaw: put all the good stuff on the spoon for the perfect bite. Rich coconut, calamansi, cilantro, fish, jalapeño, and onion on a crispy wonton. It was an absolute explosion of flavor. My taste buds were not ready! The carpaccio was fresh and paired with what I believe was pear or another refreshing fruit. Then the crispy pig ears came out. I was hesitant because not everyone at our table is a pork fan, and I had already convinced them to order the pork tomahawk tocino. But after Carol and Chef Tara both recommended it, we gave it a shot. SO glad we did. The ears were incredibly crispy, with a sweet-and-sour tamarind glaze. Then I realized there was tofu in the dish and immediately thought, "Oh my God, this is the chef's version of tokwa't baboy!" Chef Tara later confirmed it. Such a creative and unexpected take on a Filipino classic. The Roasted Cabbage was supposed to be a side, but honestly, it could've been a main. Roasted perfectly with miso brown butter and lime. Simple but incredibly flavorful. The sauce was so good one of my friends started putting rice in it. Next was the Short Rib Kare Kare. I grew up not eating bagoong, so I usually just use patis with my kare kare. Chef Tara intentionally incorporated bagoong into hers instead of serving it on the side because she wanted people to eat it the way she intended. She was right. That sauce was AMAZING. I'm pretty sure the bagoong was homemade, and the combination had me dunking my rice straight into the sauce. The short rib was tender, flavorful, and practically falling off the bone. The Chicken Adobo sa Pula was another surprise. Chef Tara described it as her French-Filipino fusion take on adobo--and there's no soy sauce! The chicken was incredibly tender, the sauce was killer, and the crispy garlic on top added the perfect crunch. Then came the star of the show: Pork Tomahawk Tocino. Sweet glaze, mango sawsawan, a meaty portion on one side and pork belly on the other. The meatier part reminded me of classic tocino and home cooking, with just the right amount of sweetness. Then we got to the pork belly... It melted in your mouth. I've never shaken my head this much during one dinner. Every dish just kept coming out swinging. For dessert, we had the Sticky Rice Crème Brûlée, and this one completely blew me away. I expected a Thai-style sticky rice dessert with coconut milk and condensed milk. Nope. THE STICKY RICE WAS BIKO. OMG. Chef Tara stayed true to the Filipino dish and elevated it instead. Mind blown is an understatement. We also had the Buko Pan Dan, which was great, along with another dessert that was also delicious. But that sticky rice crème brûlée had me sitting there thinking, "Why did it take me so long to come here?" And the restaurant itself is such a vibe. I loved the anime-inspired artwork throughout the restaurant--even in the men's restroom! I cannot say enough about this place. I was telling everyone at work, my cousins, my friends, and pretty much anyone I passed on my walk back to the hotel that night. Animae is an absolute gem. Amazing food, amazing service, amazing atmosphere, but most importantly, you can feel the passion and pride behind the food. Chef Tara isn't just creating dishes--she's telling stories and bringing Filipino culture to the table in such a creative way. Thank you, Chef Tara, Carol, and the entire Animae team for an unforgettable night.

He asked if we had reservations, we did not then he told us to wait outside to be called on, there were tons of empty clean tables, but we didn't argue. As soon as we stepped outside, before I could sit down we got called right back in by the other lady to come inside. Okay. Weird quick game of musical chairs lol. She explained to us how it goes. Drinks on this side of the room. Food on that side. Check. First plate: garlic fried rice (Sinangag), fried eggs, longoniza, Filipino spaghetti, lechon, and a bowl of arroz caldo. Also grabbed two cups, one for water the other for what the waitress said was mango ice tea (spoiler alert: no mangoes were hurt in the process of making this ice tea). Second plate: watermelon and pineapple slices, menudo, kare kare, ube pancake. First the sinangag tasted like it's been left out too long even though it was just brought out. Lots of hard pieces of rice. I decided to not finish it. Next, the fried eggs and longaniza. Fried eggs felt too rubbery for maybe just me. And the longaniza didn't taste anything like longaniza. No spices no garlic. Just a basic sweet hot dog. Maybe I'm wrong and it's just a hot dog. I can say the Filipino spaghetti did taste somewhat like actual Filipino spaghetti, sweet. But not too sweet but also didn't see any hot dogs in there! Now the lechon. Tasted exactly like fried pork. That has zero spices and kinda been out for a while. The arroz caldo had some shreds of chicken I think but I had to fetch for it in the pot. Unfortunately there's no boiled eggs to add but you can add everything else to it like the fried garlic, spring onions lemon etc. Now the drinks. What's up with the non mango mango iced tea? It just tasted like iced tea and if I was told that id be okay. But I love mango drinks and was looking forward to it. The water is the only thing I could say I wasn't disappointed with and only if I didn't have to get it myself I guess would be the only downside lol. I did try to get a second plate. Consisted of some watermelon slices and pineapple slices, menudo and kare kare with white rice. The kare kare and menudo did look like what they were called and that is about it in comparison to what I've had in the past. The menudo had no tomato paste taste to it and was rather bland and the kare kare was also bland. Their kare kare sauce was very watery, missing the thick savory peanut buttery taste. And unfortunately, it was the watermelon slices that made me quit and lose my appetite. It had a weird rotten taste to it. I almost had to vomit. First I thought it was soaked in something maybe vinegar, or I dunno. But I just could not eat anything else. I hope today was just an off day and the food is better. Unfortunately, I doubt I'll ever come back or even recommend my friend or family to come eat here.

Nonetheless they were respectful and were transparent that they'd need time to open up and also to cook the dishes. Since this is in liberty station, it can get pretty loud in here. The seating is also all shared among the other restaurants so finding a table can be tough. It's also near the air strip so if you eat outside expect it to be loud from the planes flying by. Overall, pretty good for a "taste of home" Filipino dish, but my only gripes are the pricing (it's on the pricier side), the saltiness (shout out to the vinegar) and the timing (Filipino time that we all know and love lol).

Very decent. A++ for the Lumpia. Tastes like a family recipie. Nice length and consistency,…read moreperfectly fried (though I like it a bit more crispy). Area of improvement may be the Sisig. The pork to rice ratio was nice, but there was a missing element. It needed a bit more fat or some binding agent. Wife and I split these two during the work week and it was a more than perfect amount for the both of us.

Came here to buy food for our family that came into town from Florida…read more Auntie missed Filipino cooking so I told her about R n B. One of the best sisigs I've had! Loved the texture. Also got the sinigang, lechon kawali, pinakbet, beef caldereta, and a jar of pickled papaya & carrots which was soooo goood. Everything was good and super reasonably priced. The Auntie serving me was super sweet and actually hella fast too IYKYK. The space is not too big not too small... just right and nice for a quick sit down to eat. I'm starting to think when I forget to take a pic, it's because the food was too good and I just started eating you can't go wrong with anything here but def get some lechon

R&B FILIPINO CUISINE @ MIRA MESA…read more Parking was super easy since there's parking available right out front, and there were plenty of spots when I came on a Friday evening after work. Just note that they close pretty early, around 5:30 PM on weekdays and 4 PM on weekends, so definitely plan ahead if you're trying to make it there later in the day. The restaurant is located in a busier area with other restaurants and businesses nearby, but once you walk in, it has a really chill and welcoming vibe. They have a bunch of Filipino snacks and items displayed on the side, and the whole place feels very authentic and homey. The setup reminded me a little of places like Chipotle or Panda Express where you move down the line and choose what you want on your plate. I got plain white rice as my base, but you can also get pancit, which are glass noodles with veggies, for a small extra charge depending on the plate size. For my sides, I got the crispy pork sisig and lumpia rolls, which are thin crispy Filipino egg rolls. For two sides and one base, it came out to around $16, and they loaded the plate with so much food that it easily became two meals. My boyfriend got the spicy squid along with a pork and liver dish, and everything was super flavorful. Overall, I'd highly recommend stopping by here if you want authentic Filipino food that feels homemade and comforting. My boyfriend is Filipino and even he said it tasted really good, which definitely says a lot. The portions are huge, the food is flavorful, and the whole place really gives that classic mom-and-pop shop feel.
