But Pure Barre has been the complete opposite: rejoining was seamless, and they even honored a military discount for me for being in the Air Force. The instructors? Amazing, they are all truly special; they remember faces and names, cheer you on, and create such a positive, uplifting energy in every class. Even the little touches, like a bathroom stocked with essentials, show how much they care about their members' experience. This place just gets it! Sometimes it's hotter inside that it is outside and there is only one fan near the treadmills, and I can barely feel it even when I'm directly under it. There has been a lot of unneeded renovations in the past couple of years, and it has been really inconvenient. I don't care if the gym looks like the Taj Mahal, I just want a functioning bathroom and workout equipment and there have been times there have been neither because of construction. This summer I was hoping to get back in shape but every time I went, they have been closed for one reason or another. The latest excuse is they were replacing the workout equipment, which I do admit they desperately need, especially for the treadmills. I was looking forward to trying out the new equipment, but surprise, surprise, I went today, and it was closed again! The new reason is infuriating--they're not 24/7 anymore! This location is really out of the way for me but being able to go anytime I wanted made it worth it. I usually work out later at night, so I guess I have to find a new gym now. I also don't know what the actual hours are now because the hours on yelp and the hours on the Planet Fitness website are completely different. According to Yelp they are 24 hours Monday through Thursday, but Planet Fitness says they closed at 12 am Monday through Thursday. And according to this website, they're going to be returning to 24/7 in September when the Planet Fitness website says nothing about that. I'm really getting sick of this guessing game, and I plan on joining a new gym soon.

Here's…read moremy experience: I knew I'd be coming out to Beverly, MA in June, so I looked up Crossfit gyms ahead of time. A friend pointed me towards NSCF as well, so I reached out via e-mail. Tara responded promptly to my request for information about being a drop-in visitor ($20 fee, have your home coach send us a note with any training concerns, & please being a T shirt from your home gym ... All good info !!) and last Wednesday, I found myself here ! I felt VERY welcome, the coach introduced himself & made sure I knew what was going on, where to warm up, etc. Dave, the owner, also came over & said hello. I met some fun people, had a great workout, and would definitely return here if I am in the area again. The space is well laid out, all the equipment was familiar to me - standard Rogue boxes, etc - and the gym appears, to me anyway - to be run by professional, safe & sane folks who exemplify what I want Crossfit up be. I found no "hacks" here. If I lived in the area, this would be my gym.

This gym is small but these guys are the real deal-they offer expert CF instruction, they are sticklers for form, they explain the context of the movements, and they are very attentive during skill/strength work and WODs. They could not have been more welcoming when I first visited, and I always feel welcome going back. They are a skilled and supportive community of athletes, with a range of skills and ages. If I lived in the area this would be my gym. When I visit typical class size is about 10, which is an ideal size IMO. The gym is small but spacious-it has two walls of floor-to-ceiling windows, high ceilings, and excellent airflow. They've got a nice rig that could accommodate about 10 bars simultaneously and an excellent supply of weights and other equipment. It is about as pleasant as a CF gym is ever going to get! I always look forward to my visits.

I did and let me tell you - it was probably one of the best life decisions I've made. The group training & motivation along with Paul's teaching and coaching have you sitting at work counting down the hours until you can leave work and go to Crossfit. The location is perfect since I live in downtown Beverly and the facility is great to work out in. Very large and wide open with a nice industrial feeling as the over-sized garage doors open up on either side and the refreshing sea breeze blows through. My suggestion? Try it. Go there, don't be intimidated and you'll likely instantly see just how cool this place is.
