The potatoes were tasty as well and perfect in taste with fresh garlic and herbs! We ordered a Belgium waffle, and that was also flavorful. It reminded me of the pancakes made at the golden nugget back in the day. We were also offered shot size amount of their oatmeal shake, and next on my next visit, that will be on the top of my order. The food at Tiztal is very fresh and well seasoned. I ordered 2 eggs and their silver dollar pancakes. Wow, do they ever offer large amounts of the dish. I was pleasantly surprised by the fact that I received nicely seasoned potatoes with my eggs, even though I only ordered eggs. I did wonder why the prices were so unusually high given that it was only two eggs, but let me reassure you that you get a big heaping helping of them. The hype is real. You need to go if you love brunch. My partner and I biked to uptown to have brunch here. We walked up and there is a corridor that leads to an open patio. We sat down and within 3 minutes get menus, coffee, and water. I ordered the chilaquiles that came with roasted red potatoes and scrambled eggs. I had a lemonade (that really is a limeade but I'm not complaining). The portions are big enough where you'll need to unbutton your jeans a little. I want to come back and try their eggs benedict. So far I've tried the following flavors: original creamy oatmeal, banana, and chocolate which was not on the menu but the waitress told us they can kind of make it with whatever you want. If you're sharing chilaquiles with another person, order an extra side of hashbrowns because you don't want to start fighting over food in the middle of the restaurant. I also highly recommend their biscuits and gravy because they are perfect. Not greasy, creamy and every bite is good for the soul. By the way, I recommend ordering a steak to complete this meal. For beverages, order the Oatmeal/Pecan milkshake and the Blueberry/Mango Smoothie. The drinks are on the pricy side, but once you start sipping you are not letting go of that drink. Only downside to this place is that it's small, but during the summer time there is an outdoor patio in the back which feels so welcoming. Love that this place is right around the corner from me. They recently did some renovations but are back to being open. I went with my mom around noon on a Sunday. We got lucky and were sat right away. But the place was packed. Our waitress was very knowledgeable about the menu and gave us some great recommendations. I ordered the Toronj Apio Perejil Pina juice. It was a cleansing juice. It was a bit sour but just what I needed after a night of drinking. They give big portions. I had left overs of my chicken fajitas that I got to take home and enjoy a second time around. Will definitely be back. So, coming to Tiztal with Colleen C has got to be akin to going to the Dr. Oz show with Oprah. You know, she wouldn't say it publicly, but I think CC put this place (and its oatmeal shakes) on the map. I could tell you that the food is great, although the menu is rather small; or that the space is welcoming, although it has layout drawbacks and gets crowded at the usual brunch times. However, there are only two things that you need to know about Tiztal. 1. Oatmeal shake. One of the best things that you will ever put in your mouth. 2. The first time that I came here was just for a shake to go. The lady presented me with the plastic cup, lid off, and said, "Do me a favor and drink some of this so I can pour some more in." She was holding the blender pitcher which still had about three inches of shake in the bottom. So I downed three big slugs of oatmeal shake while she waited, and then she filled my cup again with the excess. How is that for generous service! Sure, it made my teeth hurt, but who cares. I got 1.33 shakes for the price of one and a very warm feeling about this place. I hope to make it a regular breakfast option, but they also have 24-hour weekend hours now. So when I'm craving something desserty late at night, I'll know to swing by Tiztal. read more

I had the oatmeal pecan shake($6)the taste was very satisfying and didnt leave me with itis like the ice cream type. Also had the chilaquiles with steak & eggs($13). The steak was nice & tender, cooked to order. Only thing I didn't like about the chilaquiles, the sauce was a little too sour for my taste. Must've added too much lime. Overall, I believe the meal was good but pricey. You can definitely find cheaper prices at other places but the quality was exceptional. The location is quite a drive for me and at those prices I don't think I will be going back anytime soon but I certainly recommend it. read more

Our squad of three was headed towards a Halloween music festival so we dropped by for some fuel in our onesies. I discovered the place using Yelp and was surprised with the best breakfast I have ever had in years. The three of us shared: 1. Chilaquiles with steak - Breakfast nachos = GENIUS. The steak was tender and the sauce was flavorful but not overpowering and the nachos somehow remained crisp and delicious throughout the entirety of the meal. This dish really hit the spot. 2. Short stack - We were craving some old-fashioned pancakes and Titzal's short stack delivered! I felt like I was being cuddled with love and warmth from within. 3. Egg white scramble - Light and flavorful and so well balanced and packed with vegetables. The coffee was standard. We decided to split an oatmeal shake too and I deeply regret not getting one for myself. I had never had an oatmeal shake until then but damn it was basically delicious childhood breakfast in a drink and just so amazing! It wasn't even too sweet for me, like I expected. Service was fairly good - our waitress was nice but a little forgetful (had to remind her about some things). Decor is interesting and feels like you're eating in a relative's home. Very cozy. After getting a phone call from a person that hardly writes reviews anymore (he knows who he is) we decided that my time had come to try Tiztal! Another friend saw me tweeting that I was coming here and she mentioned that I needed to try the chilaquiles and also that she was gonna show up as well...Lets party in this MF is what my response was. Before they got there I decided to have their famous oatmeal shake. It is what everyone says it is: AWESOME!!! I enjoyed every damn sip. My dining companions showed up and to my surprise one of them had two bottles of Andre champagne meaning byob mimosa time...damn thang was def bouts to get did! We all ordered the chilaquiles....I got the chicken version as you can choose from chorizo and steak as well. The serving was bigger than I thought it would be and pretty delicous. The dish came with very delicious potatoes. The service was more than stellar as they made sure we had a huge pitcher of OJ to go with our bubbles and also gave us samples of the oatmeal shake. UPDATE 8/2/09: They are BYOB and now have an adorable little patio in back, woo hoo! I wavered on whether or not to give Tiztal that extra star and decided to stop being stingy since they are pretty great. This morning I was on a brunch mission and I didn't care where, or did I? I stopped by Toast, but the wait was horrendous, even for a counter spot for 1 (45 minutes? me no likey). So armed with my CTA pass I decided to hop on the first bus I saw and hoped for the best. Fortunately, my jaunt landed me back at Tiztal. Thanks The place wasn't too crowded, which is surprising, but nice since I didn't have to wait. This time there was no board outside about specials, but I asked about them anyway; I didn't make it past the first item - Chilaquiles, mmm... So am I the last person to figure out the Chilaquiles = Breakfast nachos? I had that epiphany as my plate came. They were sooo good and came with homemade chips, this yummy salsa verde with some heat, and their Tiztal potatoes *swoon* on the side. They were fantastic! Service was better, definitely more attentive. I think the main server is also the owner and I think she's stretched a little too thin covering all the tables. My only gripe is still the specials, I had to ask, and I saw them offered only 1 of the 2 tables sat near me. When I heard the other items on the list I was salivating - why aren't they talking these up more? Really? Sadly, my lactose intolerance keeps me from enjoying the shakes. From everything I hear the oatmeal one is the bomb. I would imagine their fruit ones are good too, the fresh fruit they serve looks awesome. To the parents with the 3 kids at their table: When you're eating in a small space (or anywhere for that matter) it's rude to let your kid obstruct the main aisle, not to mention tap dance (read stomp) with his soccer cleats on the tile floor. It's annoying, disruptive, and potentially dangerous. The servers/staff don't enjoy dodging him, trust me; just because they are too polite to ask him to knock it off and take a seat doesn't mean you shouldn't. Also, I wouldn't recommend letting your 2 smaller kids play by the door.
