I'm writing this review regarding the treatment my 60-year-old mother received at the HEB located…read moreat 9900 Wurzbach Rd, San Antonio, TX 78230. The way she was treated by staff was embarrassing, dismissive, and unacceptable. On 12/18/25 around 7:00 PM, my mother attempted to purchase groceries using vouchers and an in-store coupon. She was assisted by Ashley (cashier) and Matthew (manager), who told her the vouchers could not be accepted because they would not scan and claimed HEB did not take them. My mother explained that she had successfully used the same vouchers at several other HEB locations and that they sometimes require manual entry. Despite this, both Ashley and Matthew refused to accept them and told her to scan the QR code to see which stores participate. After returning home, my mother scanned the QR code and did not see HEB listed as a non-participating store. Because she no longer had a ride and still needed groceries, she walked back to the store (about 30 minutes each way) around 8:00 PM. While a different cashier was ringing up her items, Ashley approached, removed my mother's groceries from the conveyor belt, and said, "I already told you we don't take your coupons." My mother was publicly embarrassed and left the store empty-handed, walking all the way home again. My mother later called the store and spoke with Matthew, explaining what happened. He stated he had "taken a picture of the vouchers to show corporate," but no resolution or empathy was offered. The next evening, 12/19/25 around 8:45 PM, my mother returned to the same HEB to try again, thinking the in-store coupon may have been the issue. Ashley was again at the register, and Matthew approached, stating they had just scanned the QR code and that HEB was listed as not accepting the vouchers. Family members tried to explain that the vouchers had already been used successfully at other HEB locations, but Ashley and Matthew again refused to accept them. Immediately after leaving, my family went to a different HEB location, where my mother was able to purchase groceries using the exact same vouchers with no issues. Afterward, a follow-up call was made to Matthew for clarification. He stated they had the right to refuse service because it is private property and claimed "upper management" told him HEB doesn't accept the vouchers, but refused to provide a name or further explanation. This situation could have been handled with professionalism, respect, and basic customer service. Instead, a 60-year-old woman was embarrassed publicly, had her groceries removed from the belt, and was made to walk back and forth unnecessarily -- all while being given conflicting and incorrect information. I strongly recommend additional training for staff and management at this location, particularly regarding voucher acceptance and respectful customer interaction.

Service not sure about since I never received any other than the cashier. Ambience can be hectic depending on timing, it can get busy. I suggest go early and not later in day or you have a traffic jam of people in your way blocking isles. They have a wide selection of things and prices are ok. I do like their H-E-B brands a lot. Now the negatives. Sushi isn't that great, not sure why they even try if they're not going to make it right. For example, they give you 1 tiny piece of ginger and barely any wasabi... what? It doesn't cost much and the taste is so bland you need that for flavor and they choose not to give you any. Now when you get to the register if you pay by card you have to swipe it at least 11 times, not kidding. I asked if it was just me and they assured me it was normal and happens to everyone... so they know the issue yet they don't replace the system. Where I come from if something is broke, you fix it. +1 star for wide selection, +1 star for cleanliness, and +1 star for large meat selection. -1 star for selling bad ground beef. -1 star for inconvenience when checking out with a large line building behind you because you're swiping your card 11 times.

Most recently I spoke to Marisol(Maribel?) at the self check out. She not only helped me by doing her usual job duties, but I asked for her personal opinion on one of my items and she responded and then recommended something else I hadn't even thought about. I appreciate her honesty and help. Additionally, I had a small interaction with the woman at the Garden section. I was looking for a shopping cart and she didn't see any in the area, so she went outside and brought one for me. I appreciate employees that go out of their way to help.

I am hardly Walmart's desired demographic since I spend $610 a year at Sephora on various elixirs…read moreand potions to only look as bad as half of a Gollum at this point in my 40s. But this was my first time in a Walmart in over a decade. The little I knew about Walmart from the news is you never use self check out since you can be accused of stealing very easily if the robots don't like the cut of your jib, so I had to wait for a human at the register. I have no idea why they have 30+ registers and like 2 human cashiers. They could use that floorspace for something else rather than registers collecting cobwebs since they have nobody to work them. I was here fresh off of a very good day at Six Flags with my favourites Poltergeist and Superman both operational (which are almost always broken down and/or not sufficiently staffed and thus closed) so I had maximum fun getting to do both, and finding out how easily I bruise on blood thinners when I got thrown around in my seat like a little rag doll on Wonder Woman, as I would expect nothing less from a big lady like that. Whilst in the park I spotted one colourful shirt I really liked over and over--and then googled where to find it, surprised to see it was a Walmart exclusive--so I resolved to join the party and spread the shirt's joy beyond San Antonio. The webpage told me this location had my size in stock if I wanted to come pick it up rather than get it shipped. When I arrived at this store it turns out they had two of my size in stock, so this was either a popular size nearly sold out or it was a size they did not stock since they did not think anyone would want. The first had a small stain on the inside of the neck line. Since it was on the inside portion of the shirt I was still considering it since only I would know about it if it did not come off in the wash, and I hoped yonder mystery stain would come off in the wash. Then I pulled out the only other option and it had a major stain on the exterior portion near the neck so everyone would see it, so I had to put it back in the pile of one. What to heck Walmart, learn some quality control and/or quality assurance. Your visual merchandisers should not be putting out products that are clearly ruined. I get that this is Walmart and not lulu, but still, have some pride in what you sell. It cost less than a sawbuck after tax and the shirt made me happy even if it did come slightly soiled as a free in-store personalization, so I still purchased it to commemorate my very good day in the Six Flags, and now I have a gently stained shirt I can wear the next time I volunteer at the Food Bank where I obtain enough karma for volunteering I feel less-bad about paying slightly extra to skip the lines in the occasional theme park's doorsteps I darken when I have time to live my best ongoing midlife crisis/manchild life.
