Not all heroes wear capes. My girlfriend visited TJ Maxx last night and our car was towed just before she walked out from their parking lot (which they lease). A manager at TJ Maxx this morning took care of the entire process of getting our car back. He was courteous, efficient, and professional. I hate this TJ Maxx location. I have never been able to find anything here. I think it is very unorganized and the store feels dirty. One shopping occasion ruined it for me. I was in here shopping and had grabbed something to buy and went up to the register. The people working the registers just kept talking to each other and were pretty much ignoring the customers. As one of the women turned to do something I could see on the coat she was wearing it had the tags and the anti-theft device still on it. So from that I am assuming she was wearing the jacket for her shift and after her shift she was going to put it back and sell it. So people are buying clothes that the staff has already worn. If I wanted to do that I would buy something from a second hand store. I will never shop there again. read more

I've ignored this location for quite some time. I had been into the one at downtown crossing a couple of times and always thought that it was a bit trashy. Part of it is that I could never find anything that I was looking for (eg someting that I would wear). I was rather surprised by this location. Though some things were a bit out of place most of the items were in their proper sections. Pricing was a bit hit and miss. I normally judge places like this based on the price of their button up shirts. They have a decent assortment, mostly not my style, and you can find plenty in the $15-$25 range. Good stuff. They also have a nice little odds and ends section with some bakeware, glassware, rugs, etc. I wouldn't go in there expecting to find exactly what you want but it's not bad and better pricing than most other places. I love this place! I have found tons of things here in the past, granted it takes alot of searching to find most things. My sister and I have found some really nice dresses here, as well as fancy tops and some really great shoes. I have found some really nice dress shirts for my boyfriend here as well, nice colors, and loads of really nice brand names, for seriously way less. If you like smelly-good soaps, purses, scarves, or hair care items this is a place to check out as well. Inexpensive place to buy luggage as well as fairly to very fashionable jackets... The one thing that usually drags quite a bit is the check out line. It almost seems worth it to keep an eye on the line and walk around closeby in the aisles until it's calmed down a bit. It still happens that you come across the metallic dolce&gabana hot pants, for about $99, down from $399. But I usually just laugh, show my sister and move on when that happens. read more

This TJ Maxx blows. I've gone here so many times hoping to find something I need at the time only to be greatly disappointed. The selection here is horrible and on the rare case that I find something worthy if trying on, the customer service employees in the dressing room are rude. The racks have a lot of clothing on them to sort through, but its pretty well organized. It's not the largest TJ Max out there, but its big enough to have a little bit of everything. The home goods section is solid as well and there were tons of employees for checkout which made it very quick. read more

TJ maxx can have some great deals. But you have to have enough time to hunt around. There's not really anyone to help from the store, but if you are determined to go through the racks, there are some real amazing deals! I got a real nice top with sequins for a special event, and a nice leather clutch for under $40 for a special party at the community center. read more

i have been consistently lucky at TJ Maxxes across the board. this location is getting my highly sought after review because i found two adorable dresses here on monday for a combined total of $44! I don't have the patience to skim through their endless racks of tank tops, shirts, knits, skirts and pants. i just don't. especially because the fitting room has a 6 item limit and i really just want to go through the skimming once and be done with it, not have to pick six items go through the whole tryon ordeal and have to start the search all over again. that said i have found 4 awesome dresses at TJ's around the boston area in the past few years. three were less than $25 and the first was $70, but well well worth it. they also have ridiculously cool shoes for nice cheap prices. honestly i don't come here for anything but shoes and dresses. wait...should i be telling you this? read more

This is my all time faaaaaaave location. I live in Southie and I still will make the drive during off peak hours to hit this place up big time. They always have new inventory coming in and the racks are always packed. Yesterday I bought 4 really cute shirts and a few things for the house for 50 bucks. Its the pattern here. I never leave empty handed. Sure the store is crowded and sure the racks are sometimes so full you have to push them around to actually get a peek at the clothes but to me.. its worth it. TJMAXX is after all bargain shopping. You may work a little bit harder but later on that night when you are rocking your hot new outfit... no one will be able to tell you got it off a bargain rack... and you can let them think that : ) read more

Customer service here is AWFUL!! I asked a cashier to get someone to help me in the jewelry dept and ended up waiting there for 10 minutes before giving up and leaving. The store itself is also very disorganized and it's impossible to find anything read more

Free parking and a decent section for bags... comparable to the Marshalls in Newton.

It is a nice TJ Maxx and it has great prices and parking. However, this neighbor hood is pretty busy so even though the store is big good things sell out quick and the ones left are often a little damaged. read more

I used to love to shop at TJ Maxx. Not just the one in Allston- TJ Maxx in general. I shopped at the one near the Bradford/Haverhill area, the Rowley area, and the one near Downtown Crossing. Now I come here for the bags only, because the womenswear area has disappointed me. Some clothes were already ripping and/or falling apart when I was browsing through, and as a person who loves clothes, I find this unacceptable. read more

I took my daughter to TJ Maxx this afternoon so she could do some clothing shopping. I parked, went to do another errand while she tried on some clothes. After 45 minutes my daughter went to the car. She was told there was a towing company coming to tow the cars from theTJ Maxx parking lot. She called me and I was there in a moment. Two men from D & G were blocking my car. I said my daughter was shopping in TJ Maxx. They said they called out my licence plate on the loud speaker. I shop at TJ maxx twice a week. I have never heard them call out a licence number and my daughter didn't hear it either. They blocked my car until I agreed to go to the Sovereign ATM right next to the store and give them $90.00. I feel like I was held up. This seems really illegal. Now I am afraid to shop at TJ Maxx any more. This was at 4:15 in the afternoon. The store was not even closing! read more

The service was terrible. I've never encountered such rude employees. Not just one - but the two people in the fitting room were exceptionally rude that it actually put me in a bad mood and made me leave the store, even as someone who knows I should not take it personally and it's just them. It just was ridiculous and frustrating because both were so rude to paying customers, which is so antithetical to their job. The first employee in the fitting room was unfriendly and said nothing as I said "Hi, how are you" and just gave me my number tag. I went out of the fitting room with what I was trying on to show my boyfriend, who then walked forward to meet me in the hallway to talk about it, and she then, after several minutes, came and started yelling(!) at him that it was women's only and he needed to leave. I said very calmly to her, I'm sorry, is the hallway women's only too? We were not even close to the dressing rooms. And she just yelled back "You need to get out of there, that's only women, get away from there!" I found this policy ridiculous - he was not in the dressing room, I had come away from the dressing room, but also her yelling was pretty unnecessary - that's just no the way you speak to customers. Then when I was done trying on clothes, I brought them out with the number, and there were now two employees working in the front of the fitting room. I waited for a second, and the employee who yelled at us before just looked at me and walked away, and the other employee did not say anything at all. So I waited again, and then I just went to put my clothes on the clothes rack next to me (since most stores, the employees come up to you and take the clothes, and if they don't, then you're expected to just hang them up and give them your number yourself) and started yelling at me that that isn't where they go take and "Take them off of that rack right now." I was already annoyed, but now even more so. The communication was so rude and impatient, without being the least respectful, helpful, or kind at all. I would highly recommend if you need something and can get to *any* other store, or at least a different TJ Maxx, do that. read more

This is a horrible TJ Maxx (on Harvard St in Brookline, MA). Customer service here always sucks. I live really close to it so I find it convenient to shop there for every day necessities and each time I leave that place I say to myself I should never come again. Blame having only a few shops in the area! So this time I was looking for a pink sports bra to match my outfit for yoga. I found only ONE and it had some dirt on it on three large spots. I asked the cashier if she could make a discount on it since it was already dirty. She turned and talked to her manager who talked to her in a low voice. She then turned to me saying we will make it this time (only 10%) but next time you gotta take it wash and if it does not come off you can return it and we will refund you. The manager did not even turn to apologize or show any respect. I told her I did not want it anymore because of their stupid rude attitude. You do not walk into a store like this and expect to buy dirty clothes! I could have gone to a consignment store instead...would have had cleaner clothes! Do not go there! I WILL NOT. The last thing you need at the end of a busy day is an attitude like that from a stupid store manager and a cashier. read more

Had an uncomfortable experience here today. 3 days ago I purchased a few pairs of shoes and a bra. 3 pairs of shoes were identical, a pair for myself and 2 pairs in different sizes so that my daughter could try and see which fit better. These shoes have very white soles and when I purchased them, all were slightly dirty and my assumption was that people try them on and walk around a bit in a store that has floors that are not super clean. Not a big deal. The bra I picked in a hurry happen to have a broken strap that had been tied back, so back it had to go. When I made it to the register, I was told that the bra and the white sole shoes were not in sellable condition and therefore I couldn't return them. I explained that that's exactly how they were sold to me and that I had not noticed the broken strap, but all the tags were on plus the sticker on the bottom of the shoe was pristine. In fact, my daughter tried the smaller pair of shoes first and didn't even try the pair I was returning because it was obvious that they would've been too big on her. Those didn't even make it out of the bag! The manager went as far as to tell me that that sticker wasn't printed at that store (???) perhaps implying that I had somehow printed it myself. What made me really mad was their terrible attitude and the comment regarding the price sticker, which baffles me since that particular pair had to have a sticker printed in case I needed to return it (it didn't have one for whatever reason). All in all these ladies made me feel like I was lying and trying to get away with returning something I had worn, a very uncomfortable feeling when you are surrounded by other people. They reluctantly processed the return, but made it sound like they were doing me a favor. Their attitude towards me at this point was also very hostile. Needless to say, I won't be going back unless it is absolutely necessary, which is a shame since I have been a loyal costumer of that particular store for over a decade since it's a mere 2 blocks away from home. I wish I had thought of bringing a pair of the same shoe from their racks so that they could see how they looked just like the pair I was returning. What a way to sour my day. read more

The staff here is amazing! I recently went to the store to return a pair of boots for a client of mine who misread the size. My client had removed all tags and had no receipt for the shoes. This client is low income and was given a gift card in order to purchase the boots. With no proof that the boots actually came from TJ Maxx, I was not expecting a lot of help but decided to try anyway. The manager of the store was so patient and listened to the whole story of what had happened. She searched the store high and low for similar boots and ended up giving me another gift card for the value of the boots. Because of this manager, my client will be able to purchase winter boots that she desperately needs. The manager could have very easily dismissed this situation and claimed there was nothing that could be done. Instead she went out of her way to solve the problem and help a Brookline senior stay warm this winter. Bravo to TJ Maxx for staffing such an incredible manager and person! read more

Sept 2011 - I'm visiting Boston, and this is one of my faves. Great store, clean, neat, well-organized. Because it's a smaller store (about 1/3 the usual size), you might not find what you want every time, but repeated visits as the new merchandise constantly comes in can result in solid gold. The staff is helpful, and all departments are represented, just with much less depth in each due to lack of space. Despite that, this store does a heroic job of packing in a little of everything. Very, very happy to have this store in the Allston/Brighton neighborhood! read more

I come here on a regular basis - so at least 1x a week - mainly because they're so close to me about a mile walk. They always have new stuff. They're also really great at accepting returns which unfortunately I do a lot of since I usually too lazy to try stuff on in the store. Or I shop for my husband and have to return things that don't fit him or he doesn't like. read more

When you enter the infamous store on Harvard St. the displays are muddled, customer service is non existent,and the clothes /footwear are made of inexpensive material. I bought footwear from this location and after 2 months of wear a hole emerged on the side of the shoe. I would rather pay double the price on an item than buy items at TJ Maxx. read more

I used to shop at this place without any problem until today when I tried to return a shower curtain I purchased yesterday. The reason I return it is the curtain is too small for my shower. I also purchased rod and hooks at the store yesterday as well and I kept those since they are OK. I brought the curtain back to the customer service. A guy, later identified himself as Mychael, opened up the whole curtain and staring at it for 2 min while saying "THIS IS DISGUSTING" with a facial expression. I am sorry that it is raining outside and a few drops of rain may get onto the curtain. But I am also looking at the curtain while he opens it up and staring at it and there is nothing noticeable from my view. Of course, it is possible that there are a few drops of water due to the rain. I told him that I am upset that he said that. He replied: "IT IS DISGUSTING". I told him that you should give it back to me instead of insulting a customer like that. He said: "I said it to myself, I apologize if you overheard it. I am returning it for you anyway." Well, that says it all. I stopped arguing and asked for his name so I can complain the right person. Well, I am sure I will never see you again. read more

I had a very bad experience trying to return a pair of pants that I wore for one day. (I didn't run a marathon in them) I had the receipt. They fell apart at the seams and were loose fitting pants. Black Dockers. I paid $16.99 for them. I had also purchased pair of beige pants for $12.99 which I wore to the store and am happy with. They told me that I couldn't return the black pair because they were well worn and that they couldn't resell them? Well of course, they were defective. I left because I wasn't getting anywhere. I came back in and asked for the corporate number. I was given that. They ended up refunding $12.99 which was less than I paid for the pants. I had sworn that I had paid $16.99 for them but maybe I was mistaken? I hadn't noticed until I went home and checked the numbers with the tags which I kept separate that I was right. After my experience and attitude that I had experienced I just didn't want to go back. I was told that they never had any experience with pants falling apart.
