This review is not for the quality of the merchandise. Today I was there and the stock was fantastic. I will take issue with their mask policy. There were people online in the store who had taken off their masks. When I mentioned this to the cashier he basically just said he would not be the mask police. I hope the store staff reads this and takes action or responds to this yelp. Once I get a articulate response from someone in charge I can remove the negative stars. But for now, beware. I don't understand whats going on with this TJ Maxx. I have been to this Santa Monica location many times years back but I recently went here and I was super surprised in the quality of products that they are selling. Maybe at this moment in time I just don't really understand why all the clothes almost look like you are homeless or a hippie. I came out empty handed with nothing that I wanted to buy from here and that is super surprising. I loved going here before and finding amazing brands and great selection of clothes, jewelry and shoes. Now a days especially this location the shoes even looked sort of old and the beauty products are very unorganized. Everything is not as clean as it use to be. Hey so I popped in here quickly this afternoon and really liked this location! Wish I lived closer to it. They had a lot of ladies items and sporting wear on clearance - but actually organized in a VERY NEAT fashion. Usually I want to run away from the clearance racks because I don't have the patience to sort through things... but I actually wanted to stay and shop. (sadly, my other half was a bit keen to get back outdoors) Great selection of ladies gym wear - they carry the tight fitting lycra-like jogging pants (3/4 length) that I adore. Very happy to find these here since no place seems to have them. Wish they carried men's shoes... I'm sure I would have been able to hang out longer, if they had ;-) read more

Several weeks ago went shopping here with a friend. She ran out the door after a little while, because she had to meet another friend. As soon as she ran out, I discovered the clearance section for women's shoes. I found her an unbelievable pair of gold heels that she had been lusting after, only $3.00 - how's that for a bargain? Earlier she saw these in another aisle and they were regularly priced, not her size. Encrusted with rhinestones in the bottom and gold flower heel strap that attached across the instep with velcro, a simple gold band in the front, they were the ultimate "girly gold heels." I called her up and she must have leaped buildings because in a minute she was back there, gave me a big hug and said "you're the best friend!" I found 3 black pants for work which I have already used. Also a maxi dress for $19.99 which looks elegant, I dare say. I did not reach the 2nd floor this trip, though in the past, I have scored on some of the lingerie. I agree with Rebecca's post of the dressing rooms. No where else have I seen so many hooks to put your clothing on. Whoever designed these dressing rooms, got it right. read more

It's really small for a tj maxx but it does have some of the BEST labels. It has a lot of high end stuff from prada, versace, and theory. The selection is small but they are very well organized. The home section is huge! Lots of great labels and cute selection. No parking lot must park on street or use the public lot. I saw a $7000 Ralph Lauren dress there for only $3000. I am obsessed with TJ Maxx. Much more so the ones witha runway collection and this one in Santa Monica is one of my favorites. It's huge, they have a big selection and it doesn't get too full. Parking isn't the greatest but thats Santa Monica for you. Location is great, right in the middle of it all, worth a stop if you are headed to the beach, pier or out to eat. read more

I love this store because of the PET range they have. I only ever buy toys / treats that will not last long for my 62lb pit and 100lb GSD. They have a great range of Kong, Vital Essentials, Zippy Paws etc. Lots of great brands. They have loads of beds, shampoos, feeding bowls etc. Everything you would need to get set up or top up what you already have for your dog. The candles are plentiful and the store always seems to be clean and tidy. Nothing to complain about except the fact that I always find something to buy for my dog and I spend a lot of money here. Do not go here! First of all, there was a crazy homeless man in the store screaming and wandering around. He tried talking to me and I went to the fitting room to get away from him. There were hardly any good clothes and I noticed the prices went up. The lady who worked in the fitting room kept complaining about a shopping cart I had left after I went to try the clothes on. She also was spewing out profanity. Finally, I went to checkout and made eye contact with the crazy homeless man again (nobody did anything about it). I came home to find one of the jackets I bought still had the metal detector on it. So now I have to go back to another TJ Maxx so they can take the thing off. The alarms didn't even beep so what is the point of putting those on clothes... read more

Good place, with a good selection of beauty, home and pets products. Ideal if you have just relocated and need to by all the necessities for your new place at a reasonable price. I shoped there for bedding, small furniture, kitchen accessories, and of course beauty products. They carry bags, luggage and jewelry too, but their clothes and shoes departments might be better. read more

This TJ Maxx is really neat. A year ago, I came with my sister (didn't know it existed) bought a few home items, but didn't pay attention to what this store location had to offer. A few weeks ago, I came to look for shoes and was surprised that this location had a lot of luxury brand for a reasonable price. I was able to check out some Fendi wallets, Dior and Gucci handbags. As for shoes, they offered many name brand and luxury. The only downside was that their kitchen and food items were limited. A year ago, I was able to buy a lot of items. But this time, I only left with a few. read more

I'm alittle disappointed by the way the store looked today. It was super empty and when I asked them what was going on. They said they were remodeling and moving things around. I went in to look at dresses but unfortunately they were MIA. I also visited the makeup section of the store which was a total disaster. The boxes were open and the make up was left out broken and cracked. I'm in shock that all those items were even on the shelves. I did find some namebrand items for amazing prices but it's too bad they were mostly damaged. I walked through the shoe section before I left and there I found a pair that was originally 80$ for just 10$. They fit me really nicely so of course I bought them. I wish the workers worked alittle harder to make things easier to find for the customers. Parking around there could also be hassale because it's only metered. read more

Awful customer service. Attempted to exchange a mattress pad purchased 1-2 weeks ago due to a defect/tear in it. The cashier (#1106) is immediately defensive and claims she knows the tear is caused by the dryer. I didn't realize she was a forensic textile scientist, but perhaps she should return to that career, as customer service doesn't seem to be her forte. And since this isn't the old west and I live in an apartment, I use a dryer rather than the clotheslines in my non-existent back yard. Fortunately, the manager quickly resolved the issue by stating she can accommodate the exchange. However, when I returned with a product for exchange, I received quite a bit of attitude from Erin, another cashier charged with doing the exchange. Apparently typing in a few extra characters into her computer to do an exchange was a little too much work for her job description. TJ Maxx has no customer relations email address to receive complaints in order to train and correct these kinds of behavior. In an age when retail is shrinking due to the convenience of Amazon, the main benefit of physical retailers is human interaction and customer service. With this kind of customer service, I'd prefer interacting with a web page. read more

Worst customer service EVER! I came in and explained TJ Maxx Glendale did not give me boots I paid for and asked them to put on hold same boots in same size and since it was Glendale's fault, to ask manager to extend hold. Nope no sympathy at all. I had to even tell them to call Glendale and investigate why my boots I paid for were never given to me and was told they will look at camera later. Turns out Glendale made a mistake and didn't tell me details of why bag was never given to me. Sucky jobs for Glendale and Santa Monica!!! These locations are the worst of TJ Maxx for service!!!!!! Pasadena has class and I will stick to that location as well as any other locations but these two are equal nightmares. read more

2014 YELP 365 CHALLENGE - 141/365 Found myself really disappointed in this store. It took me 45 minutes to drive here from my apartment in the Sawtelle area of West LA...literally only 3 miles away. When I got here, I had imagined they would have some parking available, but apparently their didn't have a parking garage or lot -___- Just some street parking outside. Fortunately I was able to park in a garage just down the street, but that was frustrating since a lot of larger department-type stores in the area have their own lots/parking garages! I was looking for a specific type of shoe hanging rack that I SWEAR I have seen at other TJ Maxx locations. I wanted up to the second floor of this location, and walked up and down every aisle of the Home section twice, and could not find them anywhere! I was SUPER disappointed and couldn't believe I spent so much time driving here only to be disappointed. This place is really disorganized and messy. Lots of stuff on the floor or just not in any type of organized fashion. There are two floors with an escalator between them. Overall, I MAY come back if I ever need anything else. I was just majorly disappointed when they did not have what I wanted even though I swear I've seen them at other TJ Maxx locations. read more

It's not often that I give any establishment five stars. It's easy to find fault - "there's no parking" or "the light's bad" or "the aisles are too narrow" or "the selection sucks." But, my friends, you haven't been to THIS TJ Maxx. It's like the Bentley of TJ Maxxes. True... there is, in fact, no parking lot. But that's true for most larger stores in downtown SaMo (and the main post office, for that matter), including the nearby REI. Metered street parking in the vicinity is generally pretty easy to come by. But I have never, in fact, found the selection here to be anything less than pretty damn awesome. Consider the following: On a recent visit, the clearance shoe section in my size (7) was so vast that I initially mistook it for the *main* shoe section (I'll wait while you faint from shock, recover, then come back when you're ready). As I was saying, I was blown away by the number of designer-label shoes that were really quite well priced, especially in the afore-mentioned clearance section. I saw one pair of Josef Siebel tan leather wedges for only $10 (this was yesterday - if you act now, they may still be there for the taking). Had they not been labeled with the wrong size, I would have purchased them in a heartbeat. The rounder racks in front of the vast women's section generally has the best au courant but non-haute-couture clothing selection. I've picked up lovely wardrobe-enhancing pieces there. I've also picked up some haute duds on the designer clearance rounder, such as a lovely wool wrap coat for under $100. The handbag section itself is also remarkably well-stocked. I've purchased nice-quality designer leather handbags for under $100, including an Or Hany white leather cross-body number, and another black leather bag also on clearance; and a Cole Haan woven tan leather handbag for a little over $100 (marked down from $200 or something). Sometimes, the store will feature a "pop up" display, such as the little table they set up near the base of the escalator that was well-stocked with simple sterling silver and gemstone jewelry in the style of Ippolita, priced well at $19.99 or so. I picked up six or seven items that still form the basis of my everyday jewelry wardrobe. Alas, the jewelry table has not returned. I love the fact that there's an escalator and elevator here, well-lit and clean dressing rooms (which I've never needed to wait in line for, miraculously), an easily accessible bathroom, and pretty robust home, athletic clothing and luggage sections (considering the relatively small footprint of the store).... need I go on? While the lines here can be long, especially on weekends, I find that they typically staff the checkouts appropriately so there's never really a long wait. I may have waited 10 minutes once, but that's about it. Don't bother going to any other TJ Maxx.... unless it's the one near LAX, which is a lot larger (though its selection is more hit or miss), and has a massive Home Goods (also owned by TJ) on top of it. This location is honestly the worst place on earth. I have been shopping TJs for years and unfortunately, this is now the closest location to me. It's a mess in there, nothing has tags, its a horrible shopping experience. The store always looks like a raid just happened, never clean, never organized. My sister and I both had to wait for stupid amount of time to get prices while at checkout. My sister actually just forwent her whole purchase because of the lengthy wait. Further, the bag rule is total bullshit. Your are not a Grocery store, you do not need to charge for paper bags. It's an abuse of the the system continue to charge customers for bags. more infuriating is today at your Santa Monica location, you were out of every bag size except the extra large so even if I wanted to buy a small bag for my purchase, I couldn't. Again, all of this points to the horrible management at this location. Just skip this location all together. read more

This fancy TJ Maxx has a section dedicated to high end clothes like DVF, Tory Burch, and Alice + Olivia. I personally can't afford any of those even with a steep discount. This store has a very small home goods section, but there are some diamonds in the rough. Never pay full price for a picture frame or a candle again! read more

Once in a while I like shopping in TJ Max, because they have a great selection of brand purses, shoes, or kitchenware for some crazy discount price. You will never come across these prices or items together abroad. However, I can only be in this shop for no more then 15 minutes, then I am out. Just too much stuff to go through. Dutchman he hates coming in this store with me when we visit LA. He acts like it is torture for him. So I always encourage him to walk around the block, and by the time he makes it around the corner, then I will have completed my shopping. read more

AWESOME! The staff and management here is wonderful! (Yes, they just opened, but hey, this is Santa Monica...LOL). The first thing I noticed, that made it not the "typical" TJ Maxx location, were the Gucci and Fendi bags right inside the door. I've been to a few TJ Maxx locations and have never seen very high-end things, just good things at decent prices. These higher end items were evident all over the store in every department. Bravo! Gucci, See by Chloe, James Perse, Halston, they have it all. The store is also laid out neatly, the stock is grouped and neat-not the usual bargain bin piles of stuff everywhere. Definitely had a department store vibe, not a bomb gone off rummage sale feel. I hope it stays this way. I totally scored a beautiful Larimar pendant-that's a strong point for any TJ Maxx, the jewelry. Check it out for sure! Cashier staff is awful here. Last time I was here I waited with a few others in line for 10 minutes waiting to get help while 3 employees argued about work. Not once did they look up to see if someone wanted to pay. Another time, I waited 5 minutes while someone fussed with their register, another 5 minutes to watch a return processed, then watched them argue some more about work. I put all my clothes down on the counter and left. Really, I tried to pay. I tried to give u money. I hope someone trains the staff here eventually. read more

I have been a TJ Maxx shopper for many years, in many locations. Although another store is closer to my home, I feel more comfortable in the Santa Monica store. I went in a couple of weeks ago looking for some holiday cards, and I found them - but that wasn't the best part. There were quite a few fantastic, low priced designer and bridge jewelry pieces and I just had to indulge. Also, I met a couple of wonderful fellow shoppers from out of town, and we enjoyed finding things for each other and casting a critical eye for purchases. One of the managers, Richard, was of particular help with the cashier who was brand new on the job. Why not 5 stars? Well, as others have mentioned, there is a lot of disorganization among the shelves and racks of discounted goods. Also, whenever I shop through the handbag section, I always feel as though I am being heavily guarded by security (or is it just me being paranoid.. IDK?) When clients ask me where they can find a good buy on jewelry or other accessories, I always point them in the direction of TJ Maxx in Santa Monica. read more

Now i agree that its fashion section is on the smaller side but they have a lot more high end brands than other places.. names like Helmut Lang, Nanette Leopore, Alice + Olivia, Derek Lam, DVF and Theory. Personally, I usually hit this store to snag some awesome staple items to round out my wardrobe and peruse the shoe section.. and I usually score some great deals! This is pretty much THEE best discount style store Ive ever been to. Period. The quality of the stuff here is unmatched by any other. This is definitely not Ross. Your going to find high end designer items and discounted prices, and there's no shortage of good stuff to be had. Some highlights for me were: awesome jewelry selection, lots of designer handbags, great housewares section and lots of other random things like earbuds, backpacks, stationary. I basically had to stop and breathe and put down most of the stuff in my arms because I didn't need any of it and I just wanted it all so bad because it was such a good deal. I'm a sucker for a deal. The customer service was also great. I exchanged two pairs of pants I had bought from the TJ Maxx in Culver City and I had no receipt, which was no problem. read more

This is a great discount store - one of the real finds you can tell you're friends about. It's another corporate consignment store like Marshall's or Nordstrom's Rack where department stores can sell off their overstocked product I'm sure you're familiar with the type. But this one has a great selection. Highlights include designer clothing with great names included. Even the regular clothing has a good selection with many small sizes available. Their intimates collection has Stella McCartney and Gucci. They've got a to-die for bakeware collection. (Hey, I love non-stick pans. There's nothing weird about that.) And they have the best closet organizers/jewelery organizers/hangers anywhere. You must buy their hanging jewelery organizers for $14. Not only can you see all your jewelry in little clear pockets, but they come in Vera Bradley-esque paisley designs and Hollywood glam animal prints. The real gem of discounts is the skincare products. The Santa Monica store is surrounded by upscale salons and spas and gets all their overstock. They have premium face creams, cleansers, masks, and haircare products. They even have high end flat irons on sale. If you can deal with the Santa Monica traffic and lack of close parking, definitely hit up this TJ Maxx. I dare you to buy less than 4 items. Parking is available for free, sometimes, in the communities lots on 4th street north and south of the TJ Maxx. read more

I am a Max-a-nista. This TJ Maxx is great being close to, but not directly in, the madness of the Promenade! They have a really good selection of designer duds like DVF, Armani, ect. Like another Yelper said, even with the prices slashed to up to half price or more, they're still a little out of my price range. Alas, I'm not to the point in my life where I can buy $350 shoes yet. This store is deadly in that I always end up coming out with a over $100 in stuff I don't necessarily need, like $4 Essie nail polish (normally at $8 a bottle!) or a box of cute note cards. (Who writes notes to people anymore anyway!?) The shoe section was great--with a huge clearance rack with Coach, Michael Kors, and Vince Camuto shoes, among a lot of other name-brand wares.
