The items are brought out as they are made, so we had food being dropped off to is at random intervals. We then had to flag someone down to ask for a knife so we could cut the cake. We also needed clean plates and forks, but instead of providing them, the staff brought us small plastic takeout containers and suggested that we serve the cake in those boxes. At that point, I was genuinely upset. We asked them to repackage the cake, took it with us, and ended up celebrating elsewhere. For a restaurant that regularly hosts birthday celebrations, this level of service was surprising and unacceptable. In most restaurants, staff help make the occasion special by clearing the table, providing plates and utensils, and assisting with serving the cake. None of that happened here. We've celebrated several birthdays at Nara over the years because it was our son's favorite restaurant, but after this experience, we won't be returning.
