I hardly ever write any bad reviews but this place needs to be real. So, I've gotten my fillings at another office a couple of months back and it has been acting up therefore I looked around the sgv area that can take me in asap. The phone call and the paperwork process went on by smoothly but when it came to them making money off customer they treated me with no respect. I simply asked him if the other Dentist can simply redo my fillings since he stated that it was my new filling that making the tooth ache. He said that "Its like cooking, everybody does it different, you know?" Those were his exact words. Seriously that blew me off, what kind of Dentist compares a person's pain with food and cooking??? Long story short after the Dentist recommended either try taking pain meds, redoing the fillings or get a root canal. Taking in his recommendation I told them that I would try taking meds in the meantime to see if it gets better if not I would come back to redo my filling with them and they completely showed no respect for me and started speaking Chinese when I'm sitting right there. In conclusion I would not recommend anyone who's not Chinese like I am, because if you don't want to get anything done they WILL talk shit and make you feel disrespected. read more

We transferred to Dr. Chen whom we found through Delta insurance company recommendation in 2000. They fixed her implants and also found and fixed other dental issues, including putting a crown in. My whole family fully and deeply trusts TLC to take care of our teeth! They do everything and have done a filling for me and given me a new retainer as well. This was about the time I had just lost my job. No job=no insurance. I was in the process of enrolling my son into preschool and one of documents needed is a dental exam. I picked this place because it was close by, they had an opening the next day, and the out-of-pocket cost was okay. I was there 10 minutes early for my appointment, I was kept waiting for 15 minutes after my appointment. I will divulge that this was my son's first dental visit so neither one of us knew what to expect. When I asked the lady on the phone "do you take children?" I assumed they had that special patience kids require. I was wrong. They only managed to take one x-ray because my son started to get upset. They didn't try to talk to him or console him or explain to him why they needed x-rays. The cleaning was just as bad. By then, my son was in full meltdown and only his front teeth got cleaned before they gave up. I paid for the exam and then they had to audacity not to sign off on the school district's form. They said the exam was incomplete and refused to help the situation any further. The entire staff is unfriendly and their bedside manner is extremely lacking. All they care about is collecting money. The wait isn't long so you are in and out in no time. Although they referred me to an orthodontist 9 years ago, they are now having an orthodontist come every Friday for those who want braces. Dr. Chen has been my family dentist for several years now, and we all know for certain that we can trust him with any sort of dental problem. In every visit, the office is incredibly inclusive and understanding, and is multilingual (English, Cantonese, Mandarin, etc!). My family is therefore more relaxed, knowing that there is no language barrier inhibiting them from expressing their concerns. Dr. Chen himself also takes the time to assure you and patiently explain the process before he begins. I just wanted to inform people to be careful when they come here. The last time I came here I came in for a teeth cleaning. The dentist said " Oh you're not 18 anymore you don't need your mom's permission." I agreed that I wasn't 18 anymore. The dentist proceeded to clean my teeth and gave me fillings. They did not receive patient consent nor did they inform me that they were going to put fillings. As I headed out the receptionist asked me what I had done and I said I had my teeth cleaned. The dentist chimed in and said, "She also got fillings done!" It was then that I was informed that they had put fillings in. The main issue was that they did not inform me or try to obtain consent which I believe are very significant to patients and something to be aware of when choosing a dental center. read more

I've been going here since I was a kid and I have never had a bad experience. I've gotten my teeth pulled out, cavities filled, and teeth cleaned. Funny memory was that I remember kicking and crying on my drive to the dentist, but Dr. Chen or one of his assistants would always calm me down with balloons or small toys. Now that I'm older (and less scared), I still get the kind and caring service from everyone. I have been coming to TLC since they first opened when I was 11th grade in high school. The quality of works that I received has not changed since then. I do cleaning twice a year. If the dentist found a problem, he would tell me that I needed to do a filing or root canal, etc. Everybody at the dentist office is very friendly. Dr. Chen has great patience. He makes sure everything is done properly. His assistants are super friendly. We talked before Dr. Chen began to do his work, which helped me to relax. There was one time when I cracked one of my teeth while I was eating clams for dinner. It hurt me so much! I called TLC the next day and was able to schedule an appointment right away on the same day. Dr. Chen checked my tooth. He told me that the crack was vertical and he had to remove the top part of the tooth because of the crack. If the damage was all the way down to the root, I would need to do an implant. I was hoping I could keep my tooth and not doing an implant. At the end, I did a root canal and put a crown on my tooth. Fortunately, I never had any issues with that tooth. I guess the crack didn't reach the root! :) I am not scared to visit them for my teeth because I trust them. read more

Whatever you do, stay away from this office. I took my mom to the office today for a a simple cleaning procedure. While we were waiting, the front officer keep letting others cut in front of us to see the dr. After 1.5 hours see different people who came after us went in, I finally questioned the receptionist. At that point, they told me that all those people were "quick" procedure, such as cleaning. But our purpose of the visit is cleaning!!! When they settled with all others, they finally called us in. The "complicated" procedure is end up to be a quick cleaning that only took 10 minutes!!! Compare to my 30 minutes cleaning at other places, go figure the quality of the service this office provides!!! There are many choices in the neighborhood , don't waste your time and money here! Living in Calabasas, it's usually pretty inconvenient to come all the way out to Rosemead for dental visits. Nevertheless, I've decided to trust Dr. Chen and his dental team for all of my oral maintenance. At first I was hesitant to go to him for wisdom teeth removal because it is so far away and I disliked going to the dentist in general. But for Dr. Chen, he assured me that all wisdom teeth procedures will be done in a safe and timely manner. I'm afraid to go to the dentist because I associate dentistry with pain. However, I've been going to TLC Dental for years now and my fears have been put to rest. The atmosphere is cozy, clean, and welcoming and the staff is extremely kind and quick. I recently had to get my wisdom teeth taken out due to extreme pain and discomfort, and X-Rays showed one of them growing hooked and crooked. My doctor numbed the area, and before I knew it, the tooth was out. I asked to see my tooth after and I couldn't believe they were able to get the monster out as quickly and painlessly as they did. I went to see Dr. Chen 7 years ago because I had a cavity. He did x-Ray and fixed the cavity. Also, He told me that i have 3 more cavity teeth on left side. I didn't let him to fix them because I didn't have dental insurance and I didn't feel any pain on the teeth. I believe I made right decision 7 years ago because I have never had any problem with that 3 teeth since I visited him 7 years ago. I also went to clean my teeth twice a year with other dentists. TLC Dental was my first dentist office since I was a child and it's the only office that I keep going back to, despite living 30 minutes away. The reason why I keep going back is because of how friendly and professional the staff is. Dr. Chen is the best! He explains what needs to be done or what the problem is, using diagrams or other examples, so the patients have a better understanding of what the doctor is doing and what they are paying for. He goes above and beyond to make sure your oral health is in excellent condition and is very honest about what needs to be fixed or done. He tells you if there's a small problem so it can be fixed before it gets worse. The nurses are very friendly and the environment is very clean and organized. The building is newly remodeled and has other medical offices; there's a pharmacy downstairs, so you don't have to go too far for prescriptions if you need them. When I went in the office and into the x-ray room the receptionist said 25$ for xrays and 30$ for panoramic xray for braces, then when Dr. Chen checked my teeth for cavities he said I had 8 cavities.. right away I knew he was trying to scam me. He said I will give you "discounts" the "original" price was 2.1k$ and the "discount" was 1.5k$ when we were leaving the receptionist said I will give you another discount! 1.4k$ and we wanted to leave. When my dad use his credit card to pay the receipt wouldn't come out and made us wait 30 minutes. Other than that something happened to Dr. Chen... he wants to be dishonest to his patients. read more
