Painful Experience and Unreliable Crown - Would Not Recommend I had a crown done at this clinic, and within three years, it fell off twice. The worst part? It fell off just one week after it was first placed. When I went back to have it re-cemented, I had to wait over an hour just to be seen by the doctor. And when he finally saw me, he didn't ask if I wanted anesthesia--he just started scraping off the old cement. My nerve was still alive. It hurt so bad I could barely breathe. He didn't ask, didn't explain, and didn't give me a choice. Just told me to "hang in there." I felt violated, ignored, and in unbearable pain. After that experience, I made up my mind: I'm never going back. No one should be treated like that at a dental clinic. More recently, the same crown fell off again. I went to two other dentists, and both of them said the crown wasn't fitted properly. One even said, "It was bound to fall off." But more importantly, both dentists told me this tooth never needed a crown in the first place--that it was a completely unnecessary treatment. The nerve was still alive and the tooth could have been treated much more conservatively. Instead, I went through a painful, irreversible procedure that cost me time, money, and well-being--and the result still failed. It's a total joke. The overall clinic environment was also extremely unprofessional. One of the dental assistants--an older woman--was rough and lacked basic courtesy. There was a time I was sitting in the treatment room, and as soon as she walked in, she pushed the chair button to recline me without saying a single word--not even a hello. It shocked me and felt incredibly disrespectful. Another time, during an X-ray, she poked my gums so hard I bled. She didn't apologize, didn't check on me--she just kept going like I was an object. No empathy, no communication. The dentist also seemed to overbook patients, and his treatment plans felt rushed and incomplete. When I had the crown placed, it was the assistant who was adjusting the bite. She was clearly frustrated during the process, and her attitude added so much pressure and anxiety. It made me dread coming back. If you're someone who fears pain, or if you need a dentist who listens and informs you before doing things to your body--this is not the place. You deserve better. You deserve someone who's honest, gentle, and professional. This clinic was none of that. read more

I have been receiving care from Dr. Tsoi since a few year ago. He is very professional, and will never push for services that I do not need. He always makes good recommendations, and I have never disagree with him. I have never came across another dentist in the 626 area with this great of bed side manner. To he honest, I am afraid of seeing dentist mostly because of the sound when the dentist working on my teeth. However, I have no hesitation when coming into this dental office. Other than taking care of my teeth, Dr. Tsoi also cure my dentist phobia! Staff in the receptionist area are always nice and they will always call me and remind me of my appointments. So this Dental place lacks professionalism with both the front staff worker and the doctor himself. The front staff keeps saying that no dental office wants to see me for my type of insurance. Say they will request approval for something and never does months later. Always think they have some authoritative power or something these front staff workers who has no real authoritative power than to put high voice on elderly patients. Doctor also says things back and forth based on my personal case blaming that he mentioned it already but because the high cost , he went forward with doing something that could have a negative effect just because we probably couldn't afford to go get a specialist to look further into it. Aight guys I've seen over 10+ dentist in my lifetime so I know how to spot ones that really do care about patients. This one kind of lands in the lower end. I sat in the chair for over an hour before he even saw me. When he finally saw me, he gave me an examination and gave me a treatment plan that cost in the thousands. Keep in mind that I saw my old dentist 6 months ago and he said my teeth are good to go. My old dentist was a dental director at his place and oversaw many other dentist so I trust his word more than anything. So I went back to my old dentist and voiced my concerns over the treatment plan I was given. He and another dentist next to him agreed that it was not necessary and did a fraction of the services suggested at a fraction of the price. My suspension was correct and I knew this guy was trying to do a little upselling on his part. Guys always get a second or third opinion. This is just 1 dentist running the place and you never know what kind of treatment you need or don't need. I felt like this place is a little bit better than crappy places like Western Dental so ill give it 2 stars. read more

This review is long overdue. I've been coming here for almost two decades. The Doctor, Kelvin Tsoi, takes his time to explain all your options and doesn't push unnecessary or unneeded treatments, procedures or products. He and his team do great work. I've been to other dentist before mainly for convenience as this location is about 20-30 minutes from where I live but it is still worth it to me to drive here for the quality. The staff has always been professional with me and have helped me out since I'm not insured. My only minor complaint is the wait time, though some of that rests on me since I generally only come in when I am in pain so they have to squeeze me in as an emergency. I'm thankful they bring me in quickly in these situations but if you're in the same boat expect to be in here for a while. Best to just come here once every six months. Don't be a fool like me! read more

Hidden gem in Rosemead! You can drive by and not really notice this dental office but it's great! I first came her about 15 years ago because my friend recommended the place. Been coming here since. Office is small and cozy. It's always super neat and organized. The dental offices are open spaces but they are all perfect in size. Staff is kind. They have always made me feel comfortable. One of the front office staff (an older lady) has been there since the first day I went there. So you know it's like family when employees stick around. Dentist is SO good! He's patient, kind, speaks to you clearly and doesn't try to speak in terms you don't understand. He's gentle and is constantly letting you know what he's doing and what you need. He will let you know if there is something that you should consider doing but it's not urgent. He's always been honest and has told me if he doesn't suggest something. I don't go anywhere else. After not seeing a dentist for a few years and having a cracked tooth I've been trying to ignore, I decided it was time to be a grown up. Turns out, I needed a crown, and thankfully, I got it before the tooth got too bad where a crown wouldn't help. The staff is efficient and Doctor Kelvin, really took the time to explain things to make things easier to understand. He asked many questions just to make sure that there were nothing else wrong. I am leaving this dentist due to the front desk is so laid back taking my request. For my last visit the doctor asked me why I was not paying visit on a routine basis. The answer was I was not even asked to reschedule one. So that lady just did her check and told me that she will need to check with my insurance to verify. After 2-3 months of waiting am still waiting and she told me she just resubmitted on 01/12. This is just lame and radicukous excuse. Switching over to this dental office from my previous dental office a year ago has probably been one of the best decisions of my life. The staff and doctors here are nice and actually care about what's best for the patients, and not just about making money. They were graciously able to squeeze me in the next day to remove all my wisdom teeth after experiencing pain for a few days. The oral surgeon and my dentist recommended using platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and I highly suggest inquiring about it if you are going to get a procedure done. It's not covered by insurance but honestly worth the money. After the surgery, I experienced absolutely NO swelling, NO pain and I only took ibuprofen twice, and NO stitches. It made my recovery process so easy. And I've also been coming here periodically to get teeth cleaning from the hygienist. Finding a good and honest dental office is so difficult but I suggest this place! *side bar* Your teeth are YOUR responsibility to take care of daily. Don't neglect oral hygiene and then expect miracles from a dentist and blame others for the problems you put yourself in. read more

After going to five different dental centers, and researching various options for my mother's teeth, we decided to go with Glen Rose dental. They have been outstanding in every way. they have been clear about their pricing. They worked with us on insurance to minimize our out-of-pocket costs. They also used a combination of replacing and fixing some crowns and doing some implants. They were really patient with my mom and explaining procedures, and not rushing to complete a job, and the staff has been extremely courteous and friendly to my mom. First time customer and not well versed in insurance? Might want to reconsider... the beginning of August I called to see if this dental office will take me. They said yes, and made an appointment for at the end of the month. Which was great since my insurance expires at the end of August, but when you get there they tell you "you didn't choose us as your provider? We can't take you, bye-bye". I probably should've taken care of this myself, but as a dental office that actually cares about their clients, wouldn't it be nice if they made sure you had this office as the primary provider? They did no such effort to even double-check for you or verify everything will be taken care of by the appointment date. This dental place is so awful. About 2 weeks ago, they let me wait for almost 2 hours and the dentist did filling for my tooth such in a hurry, but the filling came off already. They scheduled me for today to fix it and I have been waiting almost one and half hours now. The staff told me she wasn't sure how long I had to wait more. The dentist will do such a lousy job again because he wil do his job such in a hurry again because it's his lunch time. So irresponsible and such a lousy job. I will never come back here again. The dentist told me he just patched it last time because he couldn't take the x-ray. Amazing place. I took out my wisdom teeth several weeks ago but for some reason one part of my mouth started swelling again a couple of days ago. I called them up and they immediately took me in to have a look. Dr. Kelvin Tsoi is amazing. He explains every single thing clearly so you know what's going on. After a bad experience at my last dentist, I was hopeful that this place wouldn't let me down. My parents recommended this place to me and told me that they're pretty good and trustworthy so I decided to give this place a try! I was a bit hesitant when they were describing the location to me though...they said it looked like an apartment building with a few covered parking spaces. Hmmm. I made an appointment and when I arrived, the description my parents gave was pretty on spot. The dental office was kind of hard to find since there was no sign outside, but after saying, "where the heck is this dentist?" out loud, someone who heard me pointed me in the right direction. I walked in and was pleasantly surprised. It's actually pretty nice inside. I filled out the paperwork and waited for a bit before getting called inside. The only complaint I have about this place is the long wait!! I sat in the chair waiting for the dentist for about an hour and a half! But everyone here was friendly and they didn't make me do anything I didn't want to do. They cleaned my teeth really well and even got my tea stains out! I was pretty satisfied, except that the whole thing took about 2.5 hours long!! I hope the wait isn't so bad next time because this place seems pretty trustworthy. read more

I hate to write this review but twice, the front office has ruined my experiences. The dentist is very nice and thorough but the front office is horrible run by a lady named V.....a. I cannot believe that this person is doing customer service with no people skill and with a terrible attitude. First time she gave me attitude on the service proposed. Second time, called insurance and got wrong reimbursement information. What is good about it is that I have the insurance brochure opened on my computer when she was telling the wrong information. Be careful and be smarter. Don't go here. The dentist was nice but their office is all about manipulating the patients. I have the state insurance and was assigned to this dentist. It has been 3 yrs. since I had my teeth cleaned at this office since every time I came in, this office wanted me to do a full mouth X-ray or they wouldn't do the cleaning. My teeth have been healthy so there was no need to expose to excessive radiation, so I refused every time and my cleaning was always canceled. I Today, I had an appointment to have my basic teeth cleaning. When I called in to make my appointment, I had specially emphasized to the appointment clerk (front desk) that I would be willing to take X-ray only if the dentist would do the cleaning right after. To have X-ray done and come in a different day for cleaning was NOT alright with me. She said ok. So I came in. After taking basic X-ray of my teeth, the dentist said that wasn't enough for him to examine my mouth so he wanted a full mouth 16-film X-ray. I agreed. The X-ray tech was the most rude person I've encountered. I asked her how many Xray she would take on me, she answered " well, you came in for an exam, right? If you don't want it taken, I'll let the doc know" . Gee, all I wanted to know was how many films, relax ! To make matters worse, she was very careless and I could tell she had to shoot at least 2 extra unnecessary films. The dentist even had trouble seeing the films after because they were not clear ( of course they didnt say it but being a former dental assistant, I knew) Then, after having the full mouth X-ray taken, the X-ray tech said to me " you are done, you can go home". I said my appointment was for cleaning and that I saw the basic cleaning tray was already set up. She said "you need deep cleaning and your insurance doesn't cover". It troubled me to think if my teeth were that seriously damaged, the dentist couldn't even do the basic cleaning to save them somehow? I took a day of work from in order to get this appointment and now that was for nothing. I get it that they wont get much reimbursement from my state insurance but just tell me upfront. I seriously would be willing to pay $400-$500 to have a good teeth cleaning, but please dont manipulate me like that . What they should have done was to inform me that they would or would not have time to do the cleaning after the full mouth X-ray taken. With me being so paranoid about radiation, I would probably have chosen not to have the X-ray had the cleaning would not be offered. I could have chosen a different dentist in that case to go to. Lastly, when I asked for a copy of my Xray, the receptionist told me "No". I knew that was my right as a patient to obtain a copy of my own record. After seeing that I was very upset at this point, she said "$15". Now suddenly I have to pay $375 for my visit considering I didnt have anything major done at this visit. I wonder how many patients this office had deceived and taken advantage of like they did to me today. ". read more

I honestly don't understand the negative 1-star reviews here. Some of the reviews are downright vicious and nasty... grounds for, dare we say, a libel lawsuit?? Most of the complaints seem to stem from the office and reception staff, which I never had an issue with. As long as you can speak and understand elementary-level English, there shouldn't be any issues here. Make an appointment, provide insurance info, see dentist. And an excellent one at that! First I like the location a lot. It is conveniently located next to the freeway so it's easy to get there. Office is clean and spacious. Staffs are very nice, friendly and super helpful with my insurance questions and needs. Most important, Dr. Tsoi is very thorough and explain treatment and options very clearly and patiently.
