I will state for the record that I am a Cafeteria aficionado. Remember Morrison's in Governor's Square - next to Sears? I think that was likely TLH's last hurrah concerning the cafeteria world. That said, I've always been a fan of TMH's caf'. I will COME to this cafeteria for lunch without having any business in the Hospital per se. There are multiple centers within the cafeteria for a broad range of diners. I'll name them as follows: The Comfort Food line, The "I'm a sensible and somewhat adventurous Adult" line, the Salad Bar, the Pizza/sammiches, smoothies Center, and a GREAT sushi / sashimi Center. Dad's admitted in the hospital as of earlier today - so I'll plan on taking decent pictures over the coming days. My apologies for not associating any images. I'll need to rely on prose to convey my thorough enjoyment of the TMH cafeteria. (P.s., back in 2011, I lived up the street and my router wasn't working for a couple of days. I camped out in this cafeteria and conducted business during that period. Strong WiFi then - and now!)

Instead of telling me the cafeteria was closed, the staff got mad and talked sh*t about me. Nice.

As with Suwanee Hall and "The Den", along with perhaps others I'm unfamiliar with, The Fresh Food Company is run by Aramark. This is largely intended for meal plan students as well as faculty and staff although it is enjoyed by anyone having business on campus. Cafeteria style service in a large central island features self-serve, served as well as made-to-order fare. Remarkable is the generally upbeat demeanor of the kitchen staff. Each time I visit, be it Suwanee or here, I'm engaged in conversation by someone on the other side of the line. Notable breakfast highlight - the omelette station. For the finickiest eaters AND those with the greatest range, there is something here for you. My FSU on-campus dining experience in the late '80s was "SAGA" and this is vastly superior.

For my meal, I started at the diner station, where I received a generous cut of meatloaf, sliced fresh right in front of me. It also came with a serving of golden buttery corn, and a mixture of broccoli and carrots. The meatloaf came with a gravy drizzled over the top, and on the first bite, flavor exploded into my mouth. With the gravy, a few of the bites were right on the verge of being too salty, but managed to not cross that threshold, making it a well seasoned entree with a variety of flavors, from the ketchup crust, to the meat itself, which was tender a delicious, to the gravy on top. Fresh Food Co. has a tendency to not salt their vegetables, likely for health reasons, so a little bit of salt was needed on the broccoli and carrots, but they were well cooked and tasty otherwise. The corn was perfectly buttered, which gave it all the flavor it needed. In total, it was a delightful meal which I would be happy to enjoy again. I would rate it 8/10, and would recommend it to anyone looking for a place to eat that offers a large range of options. Shout out to 2135!

However, we were greeted warmly and pleasantly by the worker who helped us understand a bit more about the menu. She was so friendly. The restaurant was super clean and spacious. That was a nice touch. I was just a tad disappointed by the breakfast offerings because I was hoping for an omelet or pancakes. Also, the hashbrowns and home fries didn't seem to be the freshest. But the other items that I tasted were good. I did enjoy the tasty, creamy grits.

They have a limited menu of sandwiches, breakfast plates and a few soul food style meals. I ordered the fried pork chop sandwich and home fries. It came on a pretzel bun with lettuce, tomato and a lemon thyme mayo. The pork chop itself was well seasoned. My server forgot the mayo, though which made the sandwich dry. I also asked for the fries to be crispy, and they were not. It was only the second day for brunch, so I understood. They had a vegan fried green tomato sandwich, so they accommodated me by letting me order just the tomatoes as a side. I didn't taste any salt and it was twice the price of other sides, so I wouldn't get that again. They also have bottomless mimosas. The mango flavor was delicious! The waitstaff was very nice! They sang for my friend and chatted us up. Our server was struggling a bit to keep our orders straight. Overall, give them a chance. Once they work the kinks out (and add a salad PLEASE), it will be great!

Adams Street is a quiet street on this particular Saturday morning around 9:15 am. But inside the restaurant, there is a flurry of activity behind the counter, the aroma of breakfast makes us smile when we enter and there is a line that stretches to the door. Folks are waiting. Few dine in and most are carrying out several to go boxes per person. The prices are reasonable and for the portion size, I would say budget-minded. Get the Olean's omelette. It's generously sized and enough for 3 meals. It looks nothing like a traditional omelette. It reads more like a breakfast casserole. Eggs, potatoes, sausage, veggies and cheese. It's comfort food on a plate. I am so sorry I didn't take a photo to share. I highly recommend this meal option! My dining companion ordered scrambled eggs, bacon and plain grits. My dining companion stated they were the best restaurant grits they'd ever eaten. The bacon was piled high on his plate! He took 1/2 this meal home. Mrs. Olean is behind the counter and just as personable as can be. She sets the tone for hospitality and it shows with her courteous staff. There was ample parking. The dining room is small, probably 10 tables in all. Most seem to be taking bags with their to go containers. Few people leave with one container. We will certainly return for some of their lunch options next.

When I read the email announcing tonight's Chef's dinner, we couldn't resist. No one, and I mean NO ONE, can fry an oyster better than Chef. Perched atop a great classic--deviled egg with bacon bits--the oyster was tender with a light batter-fried coating. Chef's duckfat cornbread drizzled with just the right amount of avocado butter provided the perfect podium on which two blackened shrimp lightly dusted with a hint of subtle spices rested. If you know me, you know I don't like my food to hurt me, and this dish met my requirements with a whisper of, "Here I am." Now, my hubby doesn't like anything with coffee, so he was worried about the hickory smoked chicken with espresso molasses BBQ sauce. However, he admitted the sauce didn't have any hint of coffee and, in fact, it was a delicious complement to the chicken. As for the pancetta Mac 'n' Cheese, its creamy cheesiness balanced out the smokiness of the chicken. Chef Joseph often offers one of his Pot de Crème varieties to finish a meal. I always look forward to them. Tonight's Pineapple White Chocolate version was a perfect finish to a perfect dining experience. Sparkling wines and summer--the perfect pairing. Even more perfect when you are enjoying them with a fabulous meal at Lucilla.

There was a standard menu given to us along with specials for the evening. Also notes were wine specials and a decent wine list. Two in our party enjoyed a Pinot Grigio and a Sauvignon Blanc and exclaimed good quality. For starters we got fresh bread that was accompanied by seasoned olive oil and an herbed butter. We also had the flash fried artichokes; recommended these 100%. There were little strips of red bell peppers mixed in and note, when I say "flash fried" I'm talking a lite dusting of a flour batter and super lite fry...no grease. Dinner entrees consisted of the birthday boy ordering the filet, au gratin potato and asparagus. Three of us had the flounder that had tomato confit, artichoke, hearts palm, olives and mandarin oranges. The filet was cooked perfect and extremely tender with the sides paired perfectly. The flounder was exceptional and no plate was left with a morsel to be seen! The dessert menu was hard to choose from but we settled on brownie with sauce and vanilla ice cream and the raspberry cheesecake. Add in a couple of after dinner coffees/espresso the meal was perfect. This restaurant is small but not elbow small. A few tables outside for nice weather occasions and a small bar to seat 3-4 people. Aiden was our server and he did an awesome job; efficient, attentive without being overly hovering with a great sense of humor. We will be back!

During Sunday brunch, we were seated quickly, even without reservations, even while it was very busy. There were lots of people ~ the venue is cute and quaint... my friend, however, was stuck on the paint chips and holes in the wall. The food was great. I got fried deviled eggs (yummy), fried catfish, red velvet waffles, eggs and corned beef hash. The catfish was extremely fresh. The red velvet cupcakes came with a cream cheese sauce that tasted more like Krispy Kreme donut glaze or just a sugary sauce. I wish it had more of a cream cheese flavor. I wasn't pleased with it. The corn beef hash was good. My friend got the chicken and pancakes. The chicken was delicious, perfectly fried. The customer service was great ~ warm, attentive, inviting, quick, and well managed to be so busy. Jordan, our server, was amazing! The ambience and crowd were nice, diverse. Unfortunately, the speaker wasn't working properly so initially it was incredibly, awkwardly quiet. When the speaker did start working, it sounded busted. Hope you enjoy if you ever go visit.
