Have been a couple times now, and possibly the good reviews come from the locals? Not a stellar experience on any level, and wouldn't expect a diner to be a 5 star anything; but, you really have to work the people to get them to be even a bit engaged. Business like at best which I will never understand people either owning such an establishment, or choosing to work in one, if you are not customer driven. Food was unremarkable; and didn't expect high quality, but omelettes, eggs and bacon can be done well. No refills on water. We were probably one of 4 tables filled, and you would have thought they were swamped by the subtle impatience, and obviously ready to move us out. Best thing we're the waffles for sure. I dined here with 3 other people on 8/20/16 at about noon. We had gotten a late start to the day and were looking for some good breakfast food to revive us. While the food was good, the other customers of the restaurant left us feeling agitated. Our wait staff was prompt and courteous. I ordered the Toasted Mango Waffle with a small cup of fruit. The waffle was crisp and the toppings were a wonderful compliment to it. The fruit cup was fair, but the cantaloupe could have been more ripe. My companions ordered the Corned Beef Hash, the Sarasota Omelet and the Gulf Side. The omelets were good, if a little bland. The hash was nothing spectacular and the coffee, just okay. The chairs were metal frames with little cushioning for the derriere. Overall, a "meh" experience. read more

Toasted Mango was walking distance from the resort we stayed in and recommended by the locals so we came in for a quick breakfast before hitting the beach. They offered various specials for brunch but I decided why not try the toasted coconut & mango waffle since #1 - it's their name sake #2 they had me at coconut and mango... My boyfriend ordered the Sarasota omelet with potatoes and the homemade biscuit. He has this strange infatuation with corn beef hash - so he got a side of that as well. The waffle was every bit of amazing with the fresh mango, toasted coconut oh my! The surprise was their mango butter. What! Mango butter is the business - I wanted to put it on everything. Heck I'd just eat it with a fork. On that homemade biscuit made it even more a winner in our book! The rest of the food was good, what you would expect, but tasty none the less. Service was good, not as fast when we first got their but they eventually made their way to us and it was fine after we ordered. My only gripe is literally as soon as our food came the server came and put the check on the table. I get this is probably for efficiency, but we were never asked if we wanted anything else. A little hidden gem in a shopping center. I had a great mango, apple, banana smoothie with protein powder in it which was delicious. Went to this restaurant for the first time, we waited for a moment and was directed to sit at a table, immediately our drink order was taken and served. Our only down fall from that experience is one of the ladies in my group ordered coffee and the cup that was served was not cleaned properly.. moving on we waited about 15 minutes before we were asked for our food order. Which the server went asked if we were ready to order and told Jas to hold while she greeted some customers that must have been regulars to then return to us(which they were already served their meals). For this review, the 4 stars is for the service. Hands down incredible service, amazing people and so nice. Not sitting here saying the food is gross. Its not, just what we got for breakfast this am wasn't anything to special or something we couldn't make at home. BUT for what we got, the portions were giant. I got the banana spilt. The fruit was so fresh, and yummie. The granola was delish. And the multi grain toast tasted homemade. My boyfriend got the toasted mango special and got eggs, homefries, sausage, and french toast. He said everything was good. The only down side i think was the prices.. for an orange juice it was 4.50, and the chocolate milk was 3.75... i think thats a little pricey. The menu was huge, they have a giant selection. If we were to go back we would get something different to try it, but we wanna try more places in the area since we are here on vacation. I arrived at 12:30. There were tables open. I waited five minutes to be seated. There was no one else waiting. Three staff members passed me several times while they took coffee to others or cleaned. No one acknowledged me. Finally I was asked to take the bar seat because I was alone. I ask for a table. The previous visit ( during covid) I sat at the bar and they seated two young guys nexts to me that had been out bar hoping all night. I was Leary of sitting next to someone after that. I was offered a drink quickly. Then a different girl ask if I was ready within a minute of sitting. I said not yet. I could feel resentment from at least two of the girls. Mainly the brunette. Like I was not welcome. I ordered and the food was brought out quickly but the eggs were brought without the toast. She told me it would be out shortly. My food got cold while awaiting on the toast. I also noticed the coffee cup had lipstick on it. ( DURING COVID)! I was brought the bill even before my food was there. 16.34 for coffee, oj , two eggs and toast and a potato cake and three paper thin pieces of bacon. I've eaten here several times and this by far was the worst. The main issue was the attitude of the staff. Like I was not welcome. They saw I had my money sitting with the bill and literally grabbed it off the table. Brought the change back and dropped on the table without a word spoken. I hesitated for a minute counting in my head how many was with us since we didn't have the rest of our group with us. Anyways from that point in she was rude and very short with me every time we had interaction. She asked how many kids menus and i told her 4. My special needs granddaughter who is 11 asked about something on the child's menu. And this person said that that was for "Like 8 and under" like 8 and under??? Is it 8 and under or not? Got takeout from here to eat at the beach. I had high hopes for the black bean burger, but the texture was really mushy and the flavor was meh. The fries were also pretty soggy. My mom got the grilled cheese, which was decent. I was also disappointed that the takeout came in styrofoam boxes that will be around for the next few hundred years or so. I got the coconut encrusted raspberry walnut french toast which was todays special. It was delicious! My husband got Sandi's spicy omelette and he enjoyed it as well. Never knew this spot existed until I changed my pattern and walked to the end of crescent beach and took beach access 13 to get to 7-11 and grab my coffee and a paper. As I walked past the God-awful pizza joint, i looked back in the strip center and saw a red flashing open sign. So I decided to do a grab and go. Walking in the cafe is very nicely appointed and I was greeted immediately by a wonderfully friendly server whose name escapes me. (it was Monday morning, so forgive me) I asked about a sandwich to go and she was happy to tell me what was available. I ordered a sausage, egg, and cheese on marble rye. It came with a wide variety of options so I went for the potato cake. She offered coffee while I waited and declining that, she came out a couple minutes later with a glass of ice water. This is what I call hospitality and good service. We chatted a bit while my sandwich was being made, she is a Philadelphia Eagles fan, so it was doubly impressive that she was so nice. Maybe Cowboys and Eagles fans can be friends??? Anyway, the sandwich was delicious, I ate it on the beach, the potato cake had a little bitterness to it, but was offset by what was either homemade or really good quality apple sauce that came with. To my taste it all could have used a tad more seasoning, but I'm i picky pain in the ass chef and what tastes right for me doesn't always knock everyone elses socks off. read more
