Today I was in with my daughter and son-in-law for a scrumptious breakfast. Jill - our wonderful server - suggested the seasonal lemon-blueberry waffles and we also got the cinnamon roll pancake. Wow ... wow wow wow ... they were incredible AND the fresh butter created to pair with each was decadent. My family and I came in for a late breakfast around 10:30am. The atmosphere was what you expect from a diner. The vibe was upbeat but mellow with a moderate crowd volume. We ordered eggs,omelets,and pancakes. It was just okay, nothing special but still a good meal. They offer breakfast,lunch,and dinner all day,which is nice. They have a wide menu but I didnt see a kids menu. If I could suggest one thing it would be to remove the steel cart full of utensils boxes from the front doorway. Food always good at Metro never had bad service and always fair pricing been going since they first came to Sarasota but I had guests with me this past week and one of them had ice tea and other had diet drink but when we received our bill I didn't notice but my guest did she said why was she charged for her refill on iced tea and the other guests weren't charged for refill coffee or pop ? I couldn't answer that because I never heard of anyone in the area charging for ice tea refill it would be nice to hear an answer other wise everything very good read more

Came in around 2:30 for a late lunch. Not a busy time with only about a third of the tables occupied. Plenty of servers working. They have an open kitchen concept so we could see everything when it was ready. We ordered a club sandwich with fruit and a loaded burger bowl. I tried the metro diner for the first time, meeting a friend there for brunch. We got there at around 11 am and were sat in a booth next to a big group. I wish I had thought to pick somewhere else to sit before our food arrived because it was EXTREMELY loud! The menu is varied and serves breakfast and lunch all day and includes healthy options and some treat yourself options. I really wanted to try the steak scramble but was advised that the steak was cut into tips and did not always get the best feedback (glad they were honest). I went for the breakfast burger. Accompanied by lovely mashed potatoes and savory gravel, with beautifully done green beans on the side. All washed down with a grand slice of chocolate cake. The service was on point. We went for dinner after a day from HELL at Sarasota Memorial Hospital for a procedure that was never done We had to be there at 5:30 am so neither of us had anything to eat for a procedure that was supposed to be done at 7am After being there 13 hours and nothing we opted to just leave By now you can imagine we are starving not having ate in 24 hours. Grabbed our son at home and went to our favorite place The server Windsor was absolutely AMAZING hot coffee for me and fresh brewed iced tea for my husband and of course soda for our son. First time here. Husband picked this place out. He drives by the area often on his way to work. We dined in for breakfast. When we walked in, a lady said we can choose anywhere to sit. We thought that was a bit odd. We found a small booth near the front and sat there. The place was decked out with Christmas decor. They can accommodate large groups. A waitress eventually came to service us. We started with avocado toast. They were too ambitious with the salt. I had chicken and waffle and my husband had 2 stack pancakes , eggs, and bacon. For drinks, I had screwdriver and hubby had mimosa. Screwdriver was lacking with the vodka. Overall, the food was good. My chicken was not hot but it was crispy. They mixed hot sauce with syrup and my husband loved it. The waffle with the strawberry butter was a first for me and I give that combo 5 stars. Service was pretty decent. Our first time here, and will definitely be back. Restaurant was delightfully decorated for Halloween, w/o going overboard. Service was outstanding. We had breakfast on a Tuesday morning. Hubby had meat loaded omlet and was satisfied with the quantity and quality of meats. Wheat toast and grits (said the grits were outstanding) were his selected sides. I wanted the Southwest Bowl, but unfortunately, the egg mixture is pre-made with the Jalepeno and Green peppers, which I did not want. Selected the Avacado, Egg, & Bacon sandwich on wheat, with a side of hashbrowns. These were the BEST hashbrowns I've had in a L-O-N-G time. Cooked perfectly. Not over browned, still tender and moist with a crisp finish. Jilian was a wonderful server with a delightful and uplifting personality. Ample free parking. Restrooms must have been recently updated, as they were spotless. Close Detweiler's, it makes for a delightful quick breakfast or lunch. They do serve mimosa's, beer and wine. I don't know about full bar. In business since 1996 (I believe), it's no surprise they're STILL in business. Again, we'll definitely be back. BTW, they do accept pets on the covered outdoor porch (facing west). Just don't ask for the winning lottery numbers, unfortunately, they won't give them out. LOL! read more

Enjoyed previous visits. Last visit on 10/3/25. My partner's barbecue bacon cheeseburger was good and I ordered the fish and chips special that included a seafood chowder. The chowder was excellent, but the fish looked more like baked. There was no crispy crunchy crust and the fish had a certain peculiar after taste. I apologize for not returning it after the first bite. I was really hungry and I wound up eating it all. I did not get sick, but it definitely was not the dish I'm used to eating. Don't know if the waitress misunderstood me or I misunderstood her or that's their version of fish and chips. The only fish and chips I've ever eaten has been deep-fried and extra crunchy. What I like about this place is that you can get a big hearty meal or a smaller portion meal. Everything that I've tried there has been delicious and priced accordingly. Last night we went to the Metro Diner for supper. I asked the waitress how the biscuits and gravy were and she said that they had just taken out a fresh batch so I ordered a breakfast plate which had them included. Well the biscuits must have been from the day before because they were hard as a rock. When the waitress came by to check on us, I showed her the biscuits and she said she would tell the manager. Well three minutes later, the manager Michael came to the table, apologized profusely, said he'd take the item off the bill, AND he had two biscuits and two gravies packed for me to take home. Good breakfast at a nice place When we stopped in for a late breakfast today, we found a busy place. Busy places are often good places, as this one was for us. There was no wait for a table, but I only saw the one empty inside table in this rather large restaurant. Within a couple of minutes our cheerful server stopped by to get us started. Service was spot on from that point forward. This diner serves some of the classic comfort foods such as meatloaf and chicken pot pie, and even the popular chicken and waffles. For me I was after breakfast and selected their Meat Lovers Omelet. The food was ready in under 10 minutes. The omelet was stuffed with meat, cubes of ham, pieces of link sausage, and lots of real tasty bacon pieces. While I would have liked a little more cheddar cheese, I'm very happy with the generous amount of meats. For my side I got their home fries, a huge amount of well done potato cubes (see photo). They did not appear to be seasoned, easily improved with some ketchup and salt. When I initially saw all those potato cubes, I told myself not to eat all of them, but of course I did. The manager actually had to bring me coffee.. forgot my sunglasses, came back to find them still on the table, along with the $5 bill I left there to cover a coffee I had at least. When I ate here I was pleased with the selection of menu items, something for every picky eater in my family plus plenty of more adventurous eats for me to try. I ordered chicken pot pie but was not pleased with it and did not eat it. I was not asked why I did not eat my meal or want to take it home.
