I have been back a few times know and have always been treated quite well. Making my own tobaco pipe out of Cherry woid has proven a bit difficult. Zee has given me several pionters and helped me improve. I was able to make one that i'm keeping for myself (rather than sell it) and smoke frome it nearly every day. This is a great cigar shop! It's always extremely clean and I don't think I've ever sat down next to an unclean ashtray. The owner, Zee, is very friendly and knowledgeable and runs an exceptional business. The selection is amazing and huge with a very well kept humidor and a special section of high premium stock. The cigar shop is ok, but the guy that runs the store is unreasonable. They have a $30 minimum to smoke in the lounge, which is a bit high, but I understand. The first day I bought 2 cigars. I came back the next day and bought a box thinking that would get me access for the next few days. I came back the day after I bought the box of cigars, and the manager/owner had the gall to tell me that I had to spend $30 any day I smoked regardless of the over $200 I spent there. He even complained that I sat there smoking my cigar too long. I will not return. read more

What a great shop. Best selection I've seen in Sacramento of cigars and pipes. The shop owner, Zee, is patient and knowledgeable. I enjoy the occasional cigar and wanted to get into pipes. Walked in knowing little, but thanks to zee I not only had a hands on walk through of how to properly prepare the pipe, light it, maintain it, clean it, etc., he lit his own and I got to enjoy my first pipe smoke with someone I now consider a friend. A good shop requires a good selection, nice atmosphere with great seating (which this place has) but it's shop owners and community members like Zee that turn a good shop into a great one. An excellent selection, probably the widest selection of all cigar shops in Sac. $30 minimum purchase required to use the lounge, but a minimum purchase id required at most lounges, not all. They also sell humidors, pipes and pipe tobacco and all related accessories. Drinks available for purchase and wifi available. I heard about this lounge from a friends of mine. I came into the lounge one day and greeted by staff. Staff greeted me and was very knowledgeable about the cigar. The humidor has a wonderful selection of cigars and at a great price. I picked about 4 cigars and pick a chair to sit in. The lounge has plenty of parking. This is a great place to come smoke a great cigar and enjoy the great ambiance in the lounge. read more

If not for the large humidor and selection, I'd give this place a lower rating. I went in for the first time, ready to spend a substantial amount of money to fill my own personal humidor. My friend and I walked in and were immediately tailed by the one person (seemingly) on staff. Not sure if this is the owner or just an employee, but they weren't friendly at all. As we weren't greeted or anything, we could only tell he worked there because he was sweeping. We made our way to the humidor and this guy hovered over us the entire 5 minutes we were *trying* to browse the selection. I tried to make conversation, ask about a few of my favorite brands and sticks, how he liked the humidity packs they sold, etc. but the unfriendly and unwelcoming attitude persisted. In the end, my friend and I settled on just a couple smokes each and walked out of the humidor. The staff person seemed almost to say "finally!" as we walked out. He bolted to the register and while waiting for him to ring up my smokes, I asked about the lounge and if it was members-only or if anyone who purchases can use it. As with every sentence he'd said before, his response was very short. He was rude, unwelcoming, and judgey. It's a shame because the store itself is nice and the selection is great. The service and attitude were terrible. Unfortunately, the overpriced cigars, even with a stellar selection, isn't worth coming back for. Still sad that Briar Patch is gone - I guess I'll just keep buying my smokes online for a huge discount and stay away from people like this. read more

I stop here a few times a month. Excellent selection of cigars. They have most of the top cigar brands. There are so many cigar blends on the market and everyone's palate is different. It's a great place to try a particular cigar before you spend top dollar on a box of them. The owner is an aficionado and very helpful too. This was my first time going in here. I am fairly new to smoking and expressed that to the man running the shop. I just asked simple questions, and he seemed to get very short with me and judging. He seemed to come off very smug, because I was a newby to smoking. They seem to have a very small selection of pipe Tobacco, but their cigar selection seems to be pretty large. Seems like a nice place if it weren't for the smug employee. I won't return here unfortunately for the owner. read more

I am a newbie pipe smoker trying the hobby again after four year hiatus. I gave up last time because most "smoke shops" only carry really limited selection of pipe tobacco instead having the whole store cater to vaping?? WTH is that even?!! I was pleased to find this place on a search and even more pleased to walk inside to the pleasant aroma of really high quality tobacco and large , very very large array of pipes and natural tobacco and Cigars and everything in between. I have never seen a bigger assortment of pipes before and found exactly What I was looking for to start a collection of my own. I was recommended a very good aromatic blend by the helpful employee (who's name I forgot to ask) who was more than happy to educate and share some of his expertise and tips and explained to me the proper way to clean my pipes. I won't be going anywhere else to try new blends of tobacco or purchase other pipes for that matter and I am looking forward to picking out a few cigars to enjoy in their welcoming lounge as well. Rude, unpleasant employees. I'll never go back. Walked in on a Sunday afternoon, Gym is behind the counter, two guys smoking in the lounge. I was there to find something to pair with some craft beers. Gym stood up as I approached the humidor, and I told him he didn't need to join me. He didn't respond and followed me in. "What are you looking for?" he asked. Something to smoke with a strong IPA. He asked what an IPA is, and I described it: very hoppy, almost sour beer. He had no idea, and made disparaging remarks about the very idea of drinking such a thing. I said I'd look online and started searching on my phone. After a minute or two, he asked, "are you going to dick around on your phone all day , or are you here to buy a f&$@ing cigar?" Look, Gym, I didn't ask you to join me or insult my choice of beer. If you can't help, getting profane with me when I try and help myself isn't going to win you any friends. Or repeat customers. Maybe they have enough business from the regulars mentioned in other reviews. Perhaps getting new customers isn't that important to them. I guess that's a possible explanation for treating a new face with derision. In that case, I'll help them out by never returning. read more

I have recently started hanging out here and smoking pipes in their lounge area. Not only is it free to hang out and smoke, but there is great company. There is a movie night on Friday's, and there are always folks hanging around and chatting. It is a great environment just to relax, have a cigar, smoke a sample of something from the pipe tobacco bulk jars, kick back in a nice leather chair and relax. I should also note that the lounge area is free, unlike a few other local shops. read more

I have been to every cigar shop in the Greater Sacramento area, and then some (by a good measure). The proprietor of this shop, Zee, knows what he's about with cigars - and just as importantly, knows how to be an amazingly hospitable host. I have attended many an event at this shop, as Zee throws the best cigar events in Sacramento, and have stopped in on occasion other times (living 25 miles away, it's not the most convenient shop for me). In regards to the shop itself, I believe that Tobacco Road has the most well-rounded humidor to be found in Sacramento. You can find something to fit every taste in the walk-in humidor, and their pipe tobacco selection is just as impeccable. They have a diverse selection of merchandise and accessories, and once again something to fit every taste. There is a great lounge with plenty of seating, and it's FREE to use with purchase (don't bring your own cigars into the shop, it's just disrepectful). To conclude, if you're in the Sacramento area and looking for a cigar shop, Tobacco Road is the best, bar none. read more

Simply the best place in town to buy a cigar. Or sit down and smoke one. I've been coming here since it was a little shop across the street. I refuse to go anywhere else. Great selection and prices, awesome events, comfortable lounge, the whole package! Zee and his staff are friendly, helpful, and know their stuff. The only problem is that they are so good at it I am always compelled to buy something every time I am there. Besides Cigars they also have Pipes and Pipe Tobacco, Lighters, Humidors, nearly anything you can imagine related to the fine art of enjoying tobacco as it should be.
