I have been to this small, local shop a few times, & have always been pleasantly surprised by how chill the vibe is here. The owner/propeitor is super kind & helpful. The prices are reasonable, as well. I highly recommend this business! In addition, the gentleman assisting me always says "bless you, & be safe, Ma'am." I mean, in this day & age, who does that?! Damn so many 5 stars blows my mind. Came in looking for nectar collector and wasn't even greeted (whatever that' wouldn't alone Change my review) but anyways the one associate that is working is helping an older gentleman with a modded vape after maybe 4-5 mins of me looking around still with no greeting and him with the same customer I finally just Tried to politely ask the price on a electric nectar collector that I had an idea or a price but was possibly interested if I t was lower then the norm. He chose ignore me and give his full attention to the same gentlemen so I thought to myself maybe I'm being out of line and he will get To me when he gets to me and maybe he is trained to not stack customers or greet new ones if you already have one. UNTIL 1 minute later a random gentle comes puts a single piece or candy on the table and didn't give one shit about the customer being helped and said " the normal 1 pack of Newport' menthols" and the associate drops everything goes straight into their now obvious illegal coded lock closet to grab the guy who's been in there for 35 seconds his cigs and offf he goes. At the point I'm in the store for 10+ minutes the associate finally closes his $40 modded vape sale and slowly strolls over to me and starts with " what did you need " lmao the audacity on people blows my mind and I just responded "how much is your Hunibadger nectar collector ? " after a minute or two of scrambling to make it seem like he knew what I was talking about he confidently says 79.99 , I responded "ARE YOU SURE, THE HUNIBADGER NEKTar collector is 80 bucks ? I'll take it" Clearly after hearing the excitement he second guessed himself and say "actually the Hunibadger attachment is $80 Dollars , the Electric NEKTar is in the $200, " AFTER ALL HIS BULLSHIT IM STILL INTERESTED AND SAY "OK SO ITS OUT THEH DOOR , ILL TAKE IT " HE REPLIES NO WITH TAX YOURE HIGHER IN THE $200s" Lmfao so at my end of patience I say "ok bud so the subtotal is $200 plus tax which will bring me almost exactly around $220? Right ? Let's go for it man " AND HE says "WELL ACTUALLY NEED TO CALL AND MAKE SURE " I look at him and said bro, your Customer Service skills are literally the worst I've ever experienced. Good luck. Hope your boss doesn't get mad that you walked someone who was gonna be a $20 sale ready to buy a $230 piece yet you didn't want it to happen. I think thank you for nothing wasting my time. I will never even look at this place again because of the competency, the associate was the absolute worst. Just updating my review. Still a dope place to go for your quick head shop needs. Deducting a star because prices have gone up, and the prices I used to pay are no longer available as relayed to me today. Understandable, inflation, costs to operate; and it's not a negative reflection on the business, but my 5* was basically because I had been coming here for over 10 years, and felt the prices I was getting was conducive to the long lasting relationship I had with them. I drove out of my way to come here, even when it was cheaper in Irvine. With gas at $5, it's costing me way more to come out here, so I'll probably go online now unless I'm in the area. This shouldn't deter you from coming here though. Still great guys and good prices. Thanks for the amazing service Tobacco Stop! You're still the best in the area. read more

Went to buy a puffco atomizer and it was faulty Before even purchasing I asked the worker if it were to come out faulty can I come and exchange it he said no! I also told him to try it before hand and he refused also. He called his boss then asked him if the atomizer comes out default can they exchange and whoever the owner is told him he's to busy. What kind of business practice is that complete trash. TAKE YOUR MONEY SOMEWHERE ELSE! (Owner responds to this but on the phone was to busy. I used to chat with Mike at the store he managed on Bristol Ave formerly. Now today I got the story straight from the crew at both locations and my guy Johnny at the location here on Newport Blvd North and Wilson in Costa Mesa. First, make sure that you're headed north on Newport Blvd back in the direction of Santa Ana. Then just past 23rd Street you'll see the stop light at Wilson. The center is immediately on the right, be careful as the parking lot is rather tight. Also there's the 7/11 right next door. My guy Johnny was also super nice and accommodating when I asked him if I could take some pictures. One thing I noticed was that this location also has a good selection of Kratom from various brands. Really nice to add to your coffee or in a protein shake. Also this location has a cool Zippo lighter display with a decent selection of cool lighters. A slightly larger selection of Hookahs than the Newport/Balboa store. Everything else is solid and quite comparable to the Balboa store. Fantastic service whichever locations you might find yourself visiting. What I personally like is that these are family owned and operated, veteran owned, and have provided the community around Costa Mesa, Newport, Irvine, area for over a couple of decades now. You can't go wrong with stopping by any of the stores, they have exactly what you need and the best crews in store there to help you get exactly what you want. I HIGHLY recommend the Up In Smoke stores whichever location is nearest you. Enjoy!!

"Congrats, You Lost a Loyal Customer Over a $1 Water Bottle!"…read more I've been going to this smoke shop for TWO YEARS, dropping enough cash on vapes and juice to probably fund the owner's next vacation. Easily over $2,500 in clouds of fruity smoke. So imagine my shock when one of the owners comes sprinting after me like I'm shoplifting diamonds... over a ONE DOLLAR WATER BOTTLE. Mind you, they've given me water for free before. But suddenly, this $1 bottle must've been liquid gold. The look of pure existential frustration in the owner's eyes was like I'd just asked him for his firstborn child instead of a sip of Dasani. I guess loyalty means nothing when they're counting pennies. So here's the deal: Thousands spent on vapes? Check. Loyal customer for 2 years? Check. Free water bottle? DENIED. I hope that $1 was worth it, because you officially lost a customer who practically pays your electric bill. I'll be taking my vape habit (and my thirst) elsewhere. P.S. Next time, maybe save the Olympic-level sprinting for actual shoplifters... not your regulars who keep you in business.

Their Google listing shows them as open, and when I arrived there was an "Open" sign on, lights on, and the place looked fully operational. However, when I tried to enter, the door was locked. A man wearing a hat walked directly toward the door, clearly saw me trying to get in, made eye contact with me... and instead of saying anything or opening the door, he made a throat-cutting gesture to indicate they were "closed." No words. No explanation. Just that gesture. Extremely unprofessional and honestly unsettling. This happened at 1:14 PM in the middle of a weekday, not late at night or during off hours. To make things worse, I drove 45 minutes to get here based on their listed hours. No sign saying "closed," no notice online, no attempt to communicate like a normal business. Just locked doors, strange behavior, and zero respect for customers' time. If you value professionalism, transparency, or basic human courtesy, I'd strongly suggest going elsewhere. I was messaging with Shelley and upon finally making it to their store I was met a bigger set gentleman named Jake. He's like a teddy bear, was extremely professional, apologized for my past visit and went above and beyond to ensure customer satisfaction. It was unfortunate due to the new laws passing for vapes in California. Their store was cleared of their usual inventory and they now have special glass pieces for sale amongst several other products. I was called a THIEF. I HAVE NEVER BEEN CALLED THAT AND WAS RAISED CORRECTLY AND FELT INCREDIBLY OFFENDED. I have been a long time customer at the three stores including their first one from the very beginning. When I went to one of their stores after doing some grocery shopping next-door and decided to drop by I was told by one of the owners which I knew that I had reached behind the counter had stolen something, which I have never done in my entire life and I was very OFFENDED. After the conversation was going nowhere I asked the owner if he can review the surveillance tapes and finally get the correct answer because I knew that I had not done what he kept saying while continuing to offend me in the process. The owner told me that they would review the tapes, then reach out to me which they never did after I provided them with my email address as well as phone numbers. I also tried asking what time the owner would be in the store and when I came back when he was supposed to be there, I was just told he had just walked out. I have known these owners which happen to be siblings for years and this is why I am so offended that after all this time conversing about great customer service with them, they don't take any time for a phone call or text. Over the past weekend I came in here and decided to buy one of those ego vapes. I bought the most expensive expecting it will be the highest quality one. Turns out not. It broke in about 4 hours. So I decided to go back in and ask the people working there (3 middle eastern guys) what was wrong with it. They found out it was something wrong with my battery and they told me they couldn't do anything about it except call "a guy". I spent 60 bucks on this product and as a customer, I expect it to work. If it doesn't work, then I expect either a replacement or a refund because how is it fair to me that I received a defective product? The workers and the store owner there are the LIASON between the customers and the creators of the products which means if somehow a customer receives a defective product, it only make sense that the store will either replace the item or refund it. I mean them telling me that they couldn't do anything made me mad. Picture yourself in my shoes. It is not fair at all. Spending money on a defective product and then getting told from the store that they couldn't do anything about it. Like it was a gamble buying that product. I would not recommend this place to anyone. The recent reviews definitely show how this place has gone downhill. read more

The owners of this place do not know how to correctly run a business. I purchased a vape pen from this place and it turns out it was defective (i bought one of the more expensive ones for 60). At first, the owner was cool and told me to bring it back in so he can take a look at it. He fixed the problem (turned out something was wrong with the atomizer) and I was happy again. But then when I got home, the pen was malfunctioning again. I could not believe this happened AGAIN. I was pretty fed up and wrote a bad review about the quality of their products. Calling the store again to resolve this issue, he asked me if I was the one who wrote the bad review and I said yes. This is when he became angry and belligerent with me. Since when does a owner yell at a customer when THEY are the ones who sold a defective product. He basically told me he was not going to replace my product because of my review EVEN AFTER I TOLD HIM THAT I WOULD UPDATE THE REVIEW TO 5 STARS IF HE FIXES MY PEN. So now that 60 bucks went down the drain and I do not recommend to anyone. read more

I usually do not write yelp reviews but I feel like the ratings this store has DOES NOT reflect the experience you are going to get there. I mean this used to be my to-go store. I never went everywhere else...but recently this place seems like it has gone down-hill. I am warning you guys as a customer, to not go here. The workers there seem like their are in their own little world and are not helpful at all. I came in trying to buy my new first water pipe but since i am new to this stuff, I trusted these so called "workers" to help me pick out the best one that fit me. All they did was give me short answers as if they did not want to talk to me. I mean I did ask a good amount of questions but what do you expect? they are the experts and I am new to all this stuff. I met a friend here today to look at the Health Stone products and this Tobacco Stop does not disappoint. Marcos one of the employees here was super knowledgable about the health stone products and even shared a little about the history of the company with me. I love getting little tidbits of info and his professionalism was on point especially in answering our questions and multitasking all of the stores customers as they rolled in. He gave me a great deal and he made me laugh which is cool. The other employee greated me and was a great help as well. The owner of this shop is fortunate to have these two men managing his establishment. Pricing is more than fair and its stocked well. read more

In all my experiences at tobacco shops I have never encountered a place as bad at this. I got a defective e go vape and it never worked. I called them and asked for the manager. He gave me some sort of attitude when I asked for a replacement and told me he can not replace it. I told him I had proof of purchase and tried to explain to him politely that "how is it fair if i bought something from YOUR store and it doesn't work and I am not entitled to a replacement?" he goes on a rant on how he has no control over the product and cannot do anything about it. 60 bucks down the drain. This place is literally a one stop shop for any smoker or MM user looking for pipes, papers, etc. I've been coming here for a few years and the people are sooo friendly especially Ravish. This guy has been taking care of me every time I come in. The customer service is so good that I've broken parts of my vape & pipe and these guys have replaced it for me for free if they have extra components in stock. Besides the selection and the service, this place has the best prices and they will hook you up if you're a returning customer. I highly highly recommend coming here! read more

Excellent Experience! I stopped by this smoke shop for the first time and was seriously impressed. The staff were super friendly and knowledgeable -- they helped me find exactly what I was looking for without being pushy. The selection is awesome too: vapes, glass pieces, wraps, and accessories all neatly organized and reasonably priced. You can tell they actually care about their customers and the quality of their products. The atmosphere is chill and welcoming -- definitely my new go-to spot. Devish is the best. For a smaller shop, they have a wide variety of products: glassware, e-cigs, juice, paper/wraps, tools, & cases.
