This store has been in this location for a looooong time and used to be a great little tobacco shop. I live a couple blocks away and used to walk down all the time for smokes, a drink, or whatever. I rarely go now due to the earlier and earlier closing times. It used to be M-Sat til10 Sun til 9. Then it was 8 now it's 7 with the weather improving. SE 82nd Ave store. I mention this because I've always liked the Milwaukie store on SE McLoughlin - the staff there is always nice and the store is always well kept... And I used to like this location as well. I'd been coming here once or twice a week for over a year and even when the staff was feeling less-than-friendly they were helpful and knowledgeable on the product. I was going to let this pass but after two days it still bugs me... New guy working the counter alone. He grimaces and sighs as I walk in. Obviously whatever else he had to do was more important. But he's new so I feel he deserves some slack. A little description so you know to walk out if he's there: Short dark hair, pale complexion, earlobe plugs, medium height and build. So I ask him for a pak of my cigarettes (Export A, light blue pack), expecting that he may not be familiar because he doesn't know me yet of course. He asks where they are, as if I would know. I let him know that they always go through the side door and come back with them. He gets to the side door and shouts something unclear to me, or maybe at me. Comes back and tells me he can't find them. Asks me to repeat the brand. I thought it was because he was unsure he caught the name right. But no. He didn't remember. So I told him again. He asked what they were. Personally, if it were me behind the counter, I would have asked that before I went looking, but he's new so I again feel he should have some slack. And nobody was behind me so we had time for him to futz around. When I told him they were cigarettes, he again sighed and rolled his eyes, and slapped his hand on the counter as if he were getting upset. I still felt sympathy for him. We've all had bad days and difficult first days. He walked into the back and shouted to me, once again, asking the brand. I repeated it. He shouted back asking what color. I again repeated light blue. He shouted at me something along the lines of "::expletive:: yeah, but what color blue, light or dark?" Now I was confused. I told him I understood he was new, but wasn't sure if he had some kind of animosity toward me (and I don't know why, btw) or was having just a bad day, but then I spelled it "Light, l-i-g-h-t" and he returned the counter, in a huff, phone in hand, saying he had just called the manager to report a difficult customer and that I should leave. He turned up the unpleasantness about 200% and told me in somewhat colorful language that I was unwelcome in the store any more. I left and bought my smokes down the street. Which I will do in the future. I note all this because I am not the "bad customer" type. I do tend to do reviews when a place has created a bad experience and those reviews are obviously negative. But I'm a very positive person. I often will joke with the staff and generally in the past left with a good experience here. I used to recommend my neighbors come to the SE 82nd Ave store all the time. Most of the other staff are nice and friendly most of the time. Synopsis: New dude is a punk and a jerk and I'm stunned anyone would let him represent a store. Avoid it if he's there. read more

Yelp Challenge 365 # 132/365 Only visitor to the great state of Oregon, fine city of Portland would recognize the value of a Tobacco Town. And I am one of those visitors. First of all, I go Portland with a mile long list from smoker friends who ask me to purchase tobacco for them. Why? Because! BECAUSE! it's at least 35-40% less than what a smoker would have to pay in the State of Hawaii. There are other things Tobacco Town carries which interested me and that is a line of local wines (from the Oregon vineyards) that one may not even know of; unless you went to Tobacco Town. And they had some micro brews from small breweries in the Oregon Washington area. So for a visitor to Oregon (Portland specific), you can purchase tobacco for your friends at a great price, try some interesting wines and brews unfound unless you are looking for it and it's easy to get to. They have 3 locations I think; at least 3 that I know of. This time, I went to the 82nd Ave location rather than to drive south to Lake Oswego, their other location. The best part? The staff is terrific. They took their time to give me directions to a restaurant I was heading for. Now, that is Portland Aloha. read more

New management fired all the old employees and some of the new ones leave much to be desired. A feel of indifference greets you at the door! Prices have increased by almost 12% in the management change and they require a 5 dollar minimum purchase for cards now. I am incredibly displeased and am sad to see my quaint little corner store degrade in quality even more. It's bad enough with the eccentric 82 locals as is. read more

I won't go to this store again it's weird and small and the people are rude which is really weird because the Milwaukie store is nice and the people there are great and really nice. The people at this store act like they are to busy talking to each other to help you. I won't go back here again. Ill stick with the Milwaukie store and forget this one. read more

I was an employee at tobacco town on 82nd ave in Portland Oregon as a gas attendant from June 1995 to November 2002 and moved to the Milwaukee location and worked there May 2003. It was a great place to work and the owner Kurt was great! I will never forget the memories I got there, my great co workers and some of the great customers I had there. I was known as the fastest gas attendant to ever live! I love this place so much!! Thank you Tobacco Town for the great memories, I will never forget!! read more

Usually buy cigarettes at a nearby Plaid Pantry, but someone suggested this place as having low prices. Walked in and said "Hi, how are you?" to a girl with lip piercings behind the counter. She ignored the greeting, and shot at me "What can I get you?" She never said another word during the transaction, not even to tell me to enter my PIN number. She just slid the machine in front of me. She smirked the whole time, like she knew she was being rude and enjoyed it. It was bizarre. I'm not going back to save 15 cents or whatever it was. I'll stick with Plaid where they still have manners toward customers. She was unbelievably rude for absolutely no reason. read more

They've got the usual selection of crafts and micros, along with the Henry's, PBR, Rainier, let's-pound-em-down assortment. Friggin awesome walking into that cooler in the middle of summer too.
