I really like the cigar lounge itself but, the prices are astronomically higher than retail or what you'd pay at other stores. A $14.00 cigar at another shop is $25.00 at broadway. Another red flag that I experienced is being charged $17.99 for a $16.99 cigar. When your markup is already %70 more than retail, there has to be a presumed customer benefit to coming here over others. Especially when you take selection into mind. read more

I visited twice to pick up some cigars while in Portland for a week. The guy working was nice and helpful both times. I did not smoke there but they do have a few chairs for people to do so. They also have their own parking lot which makes it a lot easier to get to. There inventory is not huge and there were several empty boxes, but I think that is just a sign of the continuing supply chain struggles. read more

I love a good cigar. I don't love the smoke filled rooms so it is why I prefer to smoke outside. I have been a cigar smoker on and off since I was 21 years old. So I've learned a thing or two about good cigars. I've spent time learning some of the history and what goes into making a good cigar. Basically, I know enough to make some pretty good recommendations on places to go and types of cigars to choose depending on how experienced a smoker you are. Broadway is a pretty good shop with the exception of the layer of smoke that ribboned throughout the front room. There is a back lounge area, but it was dark and didn't look like it got much use. Leather chairs, large ash trays and a big flat screen TV. They had most all the same up front. The gentleman who worked there is very knowledgeable about cigars and the prices were fair. They had a large selection and varying types and strengths. There were also many cigars that I had never heard of. After the big cigar boom back in the late 90s, cigar companies popped up out of the woodwork. I tend to stick to names I recognize. There were plenty of those. It's a good place and I have now returned more than once. It's pretty close for me and I do like the selection. So, if you are in need of a good smoke, you can't go wrong here, I just prefer to smoke it elsewhere. Enjoy. read more

I got very good customer service there, friendly, showed me around, was knowledgeable. I wasn't able to stay for the lounge, but it looked very nice, seemed friendly, and it was definitely a place I'd hang out if I'm down that way again. However, as others have mentioned, there is a limited selection and everything is expensive, to very expensive. Meaning marked up. Way over normal retail. It might be worth it if you're staying and you consider the extra $ a lounge fee. But I definitely wouldn't recommend it for someone just looking to buy some sticks and go home. Not every city has a good cigar lounge. Portland has at least one. Friendly staff + friendly regulars = great cigar store. Stopped by one afternoon to kill a couple of hours and was treated very well by the locals who accepted me as one of their own. Tacky, with a decent room to smoke. For a number of reasons among my longtime cigar smoking friends, this place has never had the best reputation. A salesman told me the price of a La Flor Dominicana Andalusian Bull was $25. The next night a different guy attempted to sell me one for $40. An Opus X I smoke normally costs me $35 at most places. This guy attempted to sell it to me for $50. Most of the cigars here are often considerably more expensive than they should be, What should cost $7.50 will often cost $11 or more. Definitely not the embodiment of plush, classy, luxurious cigar smoking accommodations, fairly cheesy, with unprofessional, unethical behavior by the staff, but ok if you don't know better. read more

Thanks to the nonsmoking ordinance, the rare shop where smoking is allowed on the premises has become a sort of cigar speakeasy. How cool is that? The Broadway Cigar Company has embraced this distinction, its recent opening coinciding quite intentionally with the onset of tobacco prohibition. In addition to its walk-in humidor, it features a smoking lounge outfitted with a plethora of comfy chairs, where you can read, watch some telly, get some work done (free wifi) and, according to the owner, listen to poetry readings one night a week. I travel for work every week and have been to many cigar lounges. I love this place. Good selection of cigars and lots of chairs and couches for smoking. Great atmosphere and friendly staff also. I went into the Portland location completely clueless. The gentlemen at the store was so kind and helpful. He helped me pick out a few really nice cigars that were right in my price range. He was very patient with me and was able to answer all of my questions. I later told my dad about this awesome shop and he ended up going in a few weeks later with his work buddies. They ended up spending a few hours in the store smoking cigars and lounging around. He said everyone in the store was really nice and hung out with them while they enjoyed the shop/cigars! Was in Portland for some family business the other day and found this place. I can't even believe it! This was a total class a man place. Soon as I walked in the door the gentleman working there named Brian helped me out and made me feel comfortable right away. After some initial conversation I knew that this place was the real deal. I've been a cigar smoker for a long time and rarely do you find a place that has all the luxury and comfort this place does. What began as a novice's first foray into cigars with my first visit has turned into bi-monthly stock up sessions with the latest news from their distributors. I fly down to PDX a lot for work and this is the only cigar lounge I go to in Portland. I enjoy the knowledge they haves he excellent selection, the nice seats and the fair prices. Very few places in Oregon allow for smoking lounges and I can't in a hotel or my rental so this is the perfect place! They have a back lounge that has the feel of a men's lounge or man cave with TVs, leather chairs and great gentlemen to talk to. On Tuesdays, the back lounge is taken up by a group but you can still relax in the front lounge. The only person I have ever seen working there is Greg, who really knows his cigars, likes talking to you while just watching a game or some crazy TV shows. While relaxing, the other Greg will be happy to shine your shoes for a great price. I enjoy trying all new kinds of cigars and they are always happy to help you out with recommendations or finding a specific cigar. Very few places I have been to in the NW have a variety like BCC does. They also have a humidor shelf with the more expensive cigars ($25-$60) that you can always choose from. I've seen new customers, wives, and never smoked a cigar in their life type people come in and have been helped out finding the perfect cigar for him or her. Just remember that Cigars are not a race, sit down, relax, and enjoy it because you can easily spend 45 mins to an hour extracting every taste possible from a cigar! read more

This is the worse shop i have ever i mean EVER encountered. They do not have a good selection nor do they store their premium sticks (when you first walk against the wall) correctly. I read the humidity and temp right before i started to pull a Arturo Fuente from the box and it was 74 hum / 84 degrees. I was like wtf..smh. i know it is hit outside but mo respected shop would have their good sticks stored at that temp. So I proceed to go into their limited walk in humidor and take a look around and notice every stick is marked up 2 to 4 dollars than any other shop in the city. Very disappointing for a Oregon shop. But what takes the cake is that this guy Brian tries to give me a ridiculous price on a box of ferel flying pigs that was his one and only in stock. His long winded excuse was that he is not a drew estate vendor so he has to mark up all boxs by 50 percent to make a profit on them. When i educated him on how much they sticks individually and box were actually were he felt complied to tell me someone would come in and pay 1500 for them eventually. This guy is totally delusional and knows nothing about this brand of cigar. Especially since they are releasing more boxes around fathers day...smh. Therefore they are not as rare as some novice (Brian) may think. You can go out to cascade cigar & tobacco and get a wide array of great sticks for a fair price. Not get double talked into why a box usually cost 200 would be sold for 400..smh.. read more

I've been a customer of Broadway Cigars for over 2 years. While I'm not the customer who has a locker or goes to the lounge everyday, I do buy a box of cigars a few times a year and supplement my humidor with recommended sticks from fellow customers and staff. I thoroughly enjoy carving out an hour every week so to relax or complete some work while taking in the atmosphere and smoking a fine cigar. Sadly I will no longer be a patron of this fine business because of a customer service issue I experienced with an employee of the Lake Oswego store. Let me be clear, Broadway Cigars is a terrific place and they fulfill the opportunity to enjoy the hobby for cigar enthusiasts as well as the casual or first time cigar smokers. My issue has to do with the employee that day but it was so profound that I felt I could no longer patronage this business. The short of is that I received a Jet lighter for Fathers day (I told my daughter to buy it from Broadway) It wouldn't stay lit so I brought it into the store. He told me it had an air bubble so he took out a long bladed knife to release some butane. Before I left I dropped $60.00 on some cigars and humidor solution I used my lighter that night and had the same problem. I was especially bummed because the ineffective lighter made it impossible to get a good initial light so I had an uneven burn. I came in a few days later and explained what happened. His answer/solution was the same as last time. I expressed my opinion that I felt the lighter was faulty and I didn't want to ruin another cigar by trying to light if with a lighter that won't stay lit. His response was: "There's nothing wrong with this lighter" (holding it in front of me) - "Look, see it's working" "You don't know how to work it" "You're probably using cheep butane bought at Safeway (I buy my butane at Broadway) "I don't know what to tell you, it's working for me" "I use this lighter every day and it works for me" Not once did he offer to replace the lighter or acknowledge that the $16.00 cigar he highly recommended and I bought previously was ruined by the ineffective lighter. (not his words exactly) but what I heard was - There's nothing wrong with this lighter - the problem is you and you're attitude! This place is incredible. It's located in a Quonset hut in the Hollywood District (I'm from out of town, so I'm not sure if that's good or bad, but it looks like an older part of town that's trying to rebound). I walked in and the employee, Brian, greeted me, asked where I was from (as he didn't recognize me as a regular), and made himself available for any questions. He showed me the front lounge; which had a few regulars that talked to me as well as a shoe shine guy. The second lounge was much larger with seating for about 20-25, a dedicated work desk area with lighting and power plugs, and lots of leather sofas and chairs. He also showed me the members-only area that allows 24/7 access via key card. There is also a TV area in the larger lounge with seating, but it's tucked into a corner so it doesn't disturb the rest of the customers (some of whom were working, some reading a book, and some just lost in their thoughts). They have a great selection of mid to high-end sticks (high-end meaning good quality, not necessarily having a Davidoff wrapper on them!) and the prices seemed a bit higher (of course, I'm from the Midwest), but not outrageous by any means... especially for the amenities. I got stranded by weather so couldn't leave when I was supposed to and went back the next day, and everybody remembered me (not necessarily by name, but at least by state of origin). Brian is a class act and very helpful. The clientele are first-class. I travel the country, and if I was a local, this would be my home club. read more

Finally found a spot that I can walk in and truly feel like it's a home away from away (nice change of scenery)...classy spot for us gentlemen to relax, network and get a piece of mind. As soon as I walked in I meet "BRIAN" who was kind, charismatic and very welcoming. It was pleasantly surprising to see that other men in Portland too still take the time to get dapper. He immediately gave me a grand tour, which was impressive (must see for yourself) as it's a true gentleman's club (minus the strippers). Their selection is by far the largest I've yet to see in town...Brian helped me to decide what would be best for me. I enjoyed that he was asking good questions to try to help. I usually go to Lake Oswego (which is a great store too & closer to home), but I really was digging the private room that this location had. Nothing bad to say about the service & selection. My first experience with BCC was just a couple weeks prior to my daughters wedding in July of this year. Brian, who btw has superb customer service, advised us and hooked us up with what was cigars the wedding party were thrilled with. BCC is a cool neighborhood hangout where anytime of day you can walk in and get a friendly vibe and knowledgeable staff and owner. I just returned today to get a little something for my husband and once again the greeting,customer service and selection were above par. Plus the gentlemen/customers that were hanging out held the door for me (chivalry vary isn't dead) and were friendly and as I was on my way out we wished one another Merry Christmas. I went in to get a few cigars for my husband for Valentine's. The shop even has a big sign out from to advertise this very thing to women but I didn't really feel welcome there. Maybe if I were a man, this would be a great place to shop and smoke. As I am of the female persuasion, I felt like Meryl Streep in Out of Africa when she walked into the men's club for a drink. No one actually harrumphed at me but conversation definitely halted when I entered. But I understand I can't exactly blame the business for their customers but the staff member didn't really improve on my experience. The employee was polite but not much else. There seemed to be a drop in temperature when I said my husband didn't smoke very often but I wanted to get him a few for Valentine's. I appreciate not getting a hard sell but there was zero enthusiasm. The guy didn't really ask me anything about my husband's tastes and he only suggested one or two but without much explanation as to why. I didn't really feel like newbie questions would be welcomed. I told him when I walked in that I would appreciate some advice. He didn't seem to want to engage me much or encourage interest. There was a a decent sized humidor room but we didn't even head that direction. I tried and liked Cascade Cigar first - much better service and better selection.
