    Plenty of room to smoke

Very nice place to smoke, not very pricey. Very comfortable and a nice gentleman who will help you out. I didn't se much in top shelf cigars. I think you can find something to smoke that is within your budget.

Not every city has a good cigar lounge. Portland has at least one. Friendly staff + friendly regulars = great cigar store. Stopped by one afternoon to kill a couple of hours and was treated very well by the locals who accepted me as one of their own. There was great conversation - though the cigars were a tad pricy thanks to Oregon's love of all things taxed. Good selection and great vibe. Highly recommended.

This place is the ultimate spot for some rest and relaxation. Whether ur a man or a woman no one cares as long as ur enjoying ur cigars. They have the best selection of cigars in Portland and if ur unfamiliar with selecting they are very helpful finding just the right one and they don't go straight for the high dollar ones either. I will continue to smoke here.

Nice cigar lounge! No entry fee, other than to buy one of their cigars, and they do have a nice selection!

The room alone almost made it worth my time. The English pea risotto was very good, and the house fries were good. The French-oaked flight I requested was a sad effort. The bartender never asked what distillers I had as options other than indicating that Makers 46 must be what I'm after when I said French oaked and creamy was my vibe, to which I raised an eyebrow and indicated I was ok if he started with that in my flight as a base for comparison. Otherwise he never asked whether I'd like to spend good money on something special (I would have said yes) and later claimed these were the only French-oaked bottles they even had in stock despite a claimed inventory of over 2,000 whiskeys. What arrived: Penelope Architect--nothing at all on the nose, something like wood paneling on the palate. Angel's Envy Triple Oak--tasted just like the Angel's Envy Rum Cask I can get at the supermarket. Maker's 46--the best of those three, yet still quintessentially basic as a wheated French-staved bargain buy, which, by the way, I never indicated I was there for. When I diplomatically indicated my that my flight was totally blasé and asked for one last pour in hopes of redeeming the experience, he brought me a redundant Maker's Heart Series in which the heart was made of mildly chocolate-inspired disappointment. Staff clearly put effort into educating and serving, and the environment is special enough that I hope to return with friends for that alone, even though I was rushed out due to a scheduled reservation needing my unscheduled seat. Ultimately the pours left me with an extremely unimpressive result and a future 0-for-2 that I'd be willing to risk in hopes of their redemption. Exceptionally impressive venue, if totally unimpressive flight curation.

I want to say it's on par with the better Northwest offerings like the Irish Heather in Vancouver, The Irish Times in Victoria, or Murphy's in Seattle. But I can't. Because every time I'm here I'm just reminded of all the things it isn't. The menu looks somewhat right on paper, but it's little things like the spice and bake on the sausage rolls, the fact that they won't give you curry and chips without ordering the whole chicken entree ordeal, the somewhat dry and mealy burger. Then there are the drinks: There's a Guinness on, but the Magners is in the bottle. And then there's the whole brewpub element that was introduced a few years ago that baffles me. There are so many breweries in town, and so many quality Irish breweries, that I have no idea why you'd brew a middling beer lineup of your own AND make an Irish stout and red, of all things. But the most disappointing part of The Kells is that it's all the worst parts of the pubs in cities I just mentioned without containing any of their finer points. Stripped of history, taplist, menu, and other comforts, it's just a place where suburbanites come into the city, get loud for a few hours, pay their few quid, and leave without doing much else in the area. Compared to the Leaky Roof, T.C. O'Leary's or the city's English pubs like the Rose and Thistle or Moon and Sixpence, The Kells seems detatched and at arm's length from anything. that might resemble a community. I've heard they've done (double-decker English) buses to Timbers and Thorns matches, and I hear they're basically propping up the city's St. Patrick's Day festivities, but there's something artificial to it. It's a shame. I know the founders came from Belfast and I know the family is still very much involved, but although the staff is always pleasant when I come in, there's very little about the place that makes me want to return. It doesn't repel me, but a pub should draw me in more than this one does.

Walking through those double glass doors, you can see the crazy inventory and supply of cigars they carry and wouldn't doubt if there's more in the back. It's a pretty wide and open space and there's some seating to smoke a cigar inside if you so desire. I went in needing to find some maduros for my dad as a gift and we were able to find a few at different price points so I could makeshift my own tasting box. The staff here is pretty straightforward and to the point which is nice. I had gotten some advice on cigars priced around $10 a piece, $25 a piece, and $45 a piece. Grabbed a few at each price point and knew that this gift would be a super solid one for my dad. After I inquired about the duration for transporting them on a flight, they came to the rescue with a mobile humidor packet to keep them in tip top shape. My time here had me feeling like I was back at my great grandpa's with all the tchotchkes one could possess. Towards the entrance was a large pile of cigar boxes that their inventory came in and they sell them as storage or gift boxes. Every box came from different makers and consisted of wood, tin, and everything in-between. With the help of a friend, she was able to help me find a Rocky Patel Box that was perfect. All in all - this is one spot worth checking out for sure!!

We got back in to town right at the peak of the parade and lights celebration Saturday. To say it was chaotic would be an understatement. Since roads were closed, the road to my hotel was of course blocked off. So during the first go around we couldn't get to where we needed to be and went instead on a one mile circle which then led is to an area where the guy blocking the road was nice enough to let us through after we told him my hotel was where he was. What a blessing that was indeed because we found a parking spot right across from my hotel. My friend had an hour to kill before she could check in to her hotel since the road was still closed on that side. We lucked out finding two seats right at the bar as soon as you walk in. It was first come first serve and they were busy. Lots of people were trickling in from the festivities to have a drink or two. I got the cucumber cocktail. It was so good I made my friend have a sip. As what usually happens, we ended up making friends with the two ladies next to us who were parade participants representing mardi gras. The hour breezed by so quickly. It was such a fun time I completely forgot to take photos. Hotel guests get 15% off their tab.
