It's a new year, and my only resolution is to live well. I'll also never pass the chance to revisit an old favorite, so when the invitation was offered, I accepted. The weather will do whatever it will, but the menu remains seasonal with old favorites like the diced shrimp tempura (an absolute must), and new favorites. The fact that I could've been eating the broccoli katsu this entire time is absurd, and that white chili aioli can and should go on everything, especially the shrimp tempura. Quality remains consistent across the board and freshness was tasted at first bite of every dish. Service was great! Water was refilled without having to glance around, and though I couldn't get a midori sour today, my modified torched Paloma had the exact level of sweetness I wanted. As obvious as the casual polish present is, Tobiuo is such an approachable, welcoming establishment. Staff is so friendly and accommodating, allergies are even asked upfront so the meal can be appropriately modified, and the 2 - 5 pm happy hour menu is nothing to scoff at.

Heard about Tobiuo Sushi & Bar by word of mouth and it didn't disappoint! Nice decor and good location for a date night. Parked near a LaCenterra garage and walked to the restaurant. Reservations are recommended on Fri & Sat; we came as walk-ins and got lucky that a table was secured for dinner! Our waiter, Michael, was friendly and personable. Service was excellent! Ordered jpop cocktail (waiter's creation) since it caught my eye; enjoyed it! Hot tastings: - Miso butter scallops tasted amazing! Makimono: - unagi mami (good but average) Yakimono: - American Wagyu (not too saucy, but meat was tender!) Sake toro was ok. Actually really enjoyed the salmon sashimi flight! Ranked most to least fave: bakkafrost = ocean trout, ora king. Daily Specials: - inada nigiri (young yellowtail) & mejina sashimi (3pc) - these were ok, wasn't to crazy about them - mejina/black sea bream was good but chewier than expected Desserts: - Kuropan was unique! Great Thai tea ice cream paired with squid ink milk bread. - Everything about the ube churros were good except the ube sauce. Tasted plain and no ube flavor. The calamansi and ube ice cream were solid though. Can't wait to come back and dine here again in the future.

Atmosphere was an upscale casual feel to it. They have a sushi bar where you can sit or tables. They have their own omakase and tasting menu. The service was wonderful and everything came out quickly. I tried the oysters which were my least favorite out of everything I tried. The onions take away the flavor of the oysters. Then I tried the unagi sushi and that one was okay it tasted like some other sushi rolls I've had. It was good it just didn't stand out. Then I tried the brown sugar scallops which the scallops are a big size and in like a thick soup like cream. It reminded me of clam chowder. I don't know if I would order it again but it is worth a try. I tried the foie gras and this was torched and I loved the texture where it melted in my mouth. However, the flavors were a bit weird I guess they're going for a fruity flavor but it just doesn't work together especially the dried strawberry on top. I tried the tomato kanapaccio and that one was good for a vegetable. I thought that blended well with all of the flavors. Then my favorite was the hamachi kosho it's spicy from the Serrano peppers but that kick is just what I needed in a hamachi. My next favorite was the miso cod. The miso cod had some bones in it but the fish was so soft and practically fell off the bone. The Brussel sprouts were good as well. It didn't stand out but it just tasted like other places nothing special. I also tried the sashimi belly flight, bluefin flight, and salmon flight. You can get these in nigiri with but I believe you get fewer slices(3 or 2) The belly flight was my favorite. It had 3 different fishes and my favorite on that spread was the o toro. The quality of the fish were tasty it didn't really have any flavors on it so do not expect a flavored fish this is just sashimi.

Tobiuo Sushi was such a pleasant surprise! From the beautiful, modern interior to the incredible food, everything about our experience was spectacular. The staff greeted us warmly upon arrival, and we were seated right away. It wasn't very busy for a Thursday evening around 5 PM, which made for a calm and relaxing atmosphere. I also noticed a few outdoor tables -- perfect if you'd like to bring your pup along. The spacing between tables allowed for comfortable, private conversations without feeling crowded. My only minor critique is that the wooden chairs could use a bit of padding, as they became uncomfortable after a while. Our server was wonderful -- attentive without being intrusive and quick to pick up that we wanted to enjoy a long, leisurely meal while catching up. Every question was answered promptly and knowledgeably, helping us make excellent menu choices. Now, the food: absolutely phenomenal. Every bite was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. We ordered a variety of dishes -- the Cucumber Salad (pickled cucumber, seaweed, vinaigrette), Fried Ika (calamari with spicy seasoning and white chili aioli), Miso Butter Scallops (U10 scallops with miso butter béchamel and maitake mushrooms), Hotate (Hokkaido scallop), Hamachi Kosho (yellowtail with tomato oil, ponzu, serrano purée, and garlic chips), Hirame Sunflower (salmon, yellowtail, flounder, oshinko, yuzu kosho aioli, garlic soy), and Shiso Crunchy (citrus-seasoned salmon, avocado, tuna, shiso, spicy garlic soy, crispy shallots). Everything was delicious, but the standouts for me were the Miso Butter Scallops and the Hirame Sunflower Roll -- I'd order them again and again. My only regret was not having room for dessert! If work ever brings me back to Katy, Tobiuo Sushi will be my first stop. If you're considering it -- just go. You won't be disappointed!

Just dropping in with a quick update, I still love this place! It's been a while since I left my last review, but this spot remains one of my top go-tos when I'm craving sushi or just want a solid meal. Always a great experience. Stopped by for a solo dinner recently, and they even surprised me with a free dessert to celebrate my birthday (so thoughtful!). Honestly, I don't think I've ever had anything here that I didn't enjoy. The food is consistently delicious, the service is always fast and kind, and even the bathrooms are reliably clean. I also really appreciate the central location perfect for a post-dinner walk, which I always seem to end up taking. Some of my go-to favorites: - Unagi - Pork belly Skewers - Shishito peppers - Brussels sprouts - Matcha tres leches (new found love) - One of the crudos (wish I could remember which one but it was amazing!)

This is my favorite sushi restaurant in Katy. The food is fresh and perfectly balanced. Tonight I went for a quick bite with my daughter and we had a great time here, the atmosphere feels elevated yet casual so it's perfect to just kick back over a nice meal or dress up and feel beautiful for a date or time out with friends. Our server, Dinny, is amazing!! He is very knowledgeable of the menu items and he's a foodie so all of his recommendations were outstanding. He is personable, friendly, helpful, and just overall brought a wonderful vibe to the experience. We shared the Gyoza (6pc), they are light, crispy on the outside and perfectly filled with the pork mixture. a truly amazing execution on a classic. I had the Flight of Japanese Whiskey, they were smoky, spicy, and smooth, loved them all; I also tried the Hibiki Harmony and it was well balanced with spicy and oaky notes that really took my palate on a trip around the barrel, just delicious! The Steve-o roll is delicious, super fresh and flavorful!! The Ora King Sashimi is an experience, it's velvety and smooth, truly an experience and I highly recommend it; the New Zealand salmon is very smooth and provides a unique texture that made us crave more. The Miso Butter Scallops were a beautiful surprise of amazing flavors and perfectly cooked scallops; this dish appears to be small but it is the perfect serving and extremely satisfying, I'd sit at the bar just to have this and go about my day very satisfied, the mushrooms gave it an Earthy feel that balanced well with the scallops and the broth is well balanced, I didn't want it to run out! I could've had that dish 5 times back to back! The Tasmanian Trout Nigiri brought a unique experience to our palate, it is also very velvety and an amazingly prepared cut of fish, the rice and the citrusy kick took it to the next level! The Oshinko Crudo is light and packed an explosion of flavors, we wanted to drink the white pono sauce, just stunning! I highly recommend this place for any vibe. The food, people, and environment are all welcoming and balance very well in every level! When I want an explosion of flavors, amazing Japanese whiskey, and an experience with ingredients, I will come back here to get that experience. Hands down the best sushi + bar in Katy!

Japanese tapas kind of meal. Was relatively easy to park in the big parking lot in the back for a weekend lunch. Service was on point -- our waitress was sweet, attentive, and offered helpful suggestions. Restaurant has an overall cute feel but I wouldn't say that's its strongest selling point (that would be the food). Meal wasn't pricy but overall, lots of fun and tasty flavors. Ordered a couple rolls, short ribs, curry scallops, and several desserts! Favorites were a toss up between the short ribs and curried scallops. Everything was delicious (though I don't think the fish sauce ice cream that comes with the brownie worked for me or my friend, and I actually love fish sauce...that aftertaste on an ice cream--Oof) Ube Churros - crispy, sweet and delicious. My friend thought they were a little greasy but I loved them. Comes with ube ice cream which is yum! Kabocha Cheesecake - shaped into a kabocha which is a nice touch! The hojicha ice cream that comes with it is lovely and may have stolen the show on this one. Vietnamese Coffee Mousse Brownie - honestly couldn't remember the name of this one but that's what it was. This is the one that comes with fish sauce ice cream -- I might ask if it's possible to switch it out with hojicha ice cream cause I think the two would've gone together like rama lama lama ka dinga da dinga dong (for the one "Grease" musical fan out there).

So I went here on a solo date it was really nice. The food was really good. I tried a couple different things on the menu. My favorite is the Steve O sushi. The sake was great as well. I do wanna give a round of applause to my waitress. She was very informative and super sweet. She was attentive and always making sure that I was OK. The ambience is very quite very dim and it's perfect for a solo date by yourself . I went for the happy hour and I will say that it was worth it. I'm gonna give the food about a nine out of 10. The drinks were a 9.5 out of 10. Everything did taste fresh. The prices are reasonable .

Pros! Nice location and lots of parking options even when the area gets crowded. The staff is friendly and attentive, and the kitchen service was quick and we didn't wait long between dishes. If you're looking for a dish recommendation, we really enjoyed the oshinko crudo. It was very fresh, crunchy, and spicy. All good things. Their sushi rolls we ate were light and flavorful. I notice that many other restaurants are guilty of heavy-handedness when it comes to sauce on their sushi rolls, so I appreciate Tobiuo's use of simple ingredients to achieve better and cleaner flavor profiles. And cons. VERY loud inside and a little cold even for a sushi restaurant. I wouldn't order any of our non-sushi choices again, including the desserts. The ube churros were just ok, and the citrus sauce was too tart to work with the flavors of the rest of the dessert. The fish sauce ice cream on the chocolate dessert was interesting but there wasn't enough textural variation and everything was very soft on the plate. The chicken on the katsu sandwich was bloody on the inside, but the staff apologized very sincerely and replaced the dish with something else. Taste-wise, it was very heavy on mayo and the texture was mushy and we didn't enjoy it at all. (After looking at some of the other reviewer's photos of the katsu sandwich, I can confirm that ours did not look the same. We had a much thicker piece of chicken which helps explain why it wasn't cooked through, and the amount of Japanese tartar slaw was at least tripled on ours.) If you go, I say order the sushi and skip the extras.

I drove all the way to Katy to try the limited time katsudon at Tobuio. They had a special event in collaboration with Kohiko. I thought it was going to be crowded but the restaurant was actually pretty empty. The waiters are pretty attentive and my dish came out very fast. The pork katsu was pretty big and was on top of a bed of fluffy eggs. The katsu had a light breading and was not as tender as I would've liked but I still enjoyed it. Honestly the star of this dish was the egg and rice. I loved how underneath the egg there is a ton of raw onions which pairs well to counter the meat. There's also some type of katsudon sauce underneath. I don't know what they used to make that sauce but it was soo soo good. Honestly I still thought this was worth the drive to try.

My favorite cousin wanted me to get some good sushi and it did not disappoint. The sushi was very fresh and just so good. The rolls are super huge and a great size. Our server was super kind and very willing to help and suggest some good eats. The restaurant was clean, dark setting but just really pretty. They have a full bar. They have crayons and coloring for the kids.

They always have a lot of nightly specials if you ask.

My husband and I have been coming to Tobiuo since we moved to TX and I can't believe I haven't done a review yet. To start with, we have been to more sushi restaurants around the globe than we can count and we still feel like we are learning as we go. That said, this place has some of the best sashimi of any restaurants we have been to and that says a lot. The quality has always been consistent and we've never had a bad night here. Sashimi is hard to stay on top of because it's so volatile in terms of quality and freshness. Never had a problem with that here. We came on a Friday night recently and our two favorite bartenders were there: Colton and Corey. These guys are just perfectionists in how they approach people. From the first time we came here, they have really made the nights great. Very outgoing and helpful. Always willing to chat and offer some feedback. It's rare to get people like that and I hope Tobiuo realizes just how fortunate they are to have those guys there. We both started with drinks. I always start with the Lychee Martini which is awesome. One of the best martinis you can get at a sushi place. You look up and down the bar and you will see people with this drink which tells you it rocks. My husband goes with a Santa Margherita Pino Grigio most of the time. Our favorite app is the Hamachi Kosho. It's fresh, has a little kick without being too spicy and the flavors meld together quite nicely. I highly recommend it. We also went with some sashimi. One of the things that my husband always points out to with sashimi is how it's cut. In particular, Kinmedai which is really hard to slice without it being gritty. I would say 90% of sushi places can't nail the cut but they never miss here. It's a sign of a well trained chef in our opinion. We also went with the Bluefin Collar, Black Seabass and Young Yellowtail. All were on point and fresh. The temperature was solid as well. One thing to note is that we usually also get the Kama Collar which is the best collar you will ever find. It is full of meat and easy to work with. So many places don't know how to do a good Collar. When it's done well, it's amazing and it has never let us down here. What's really left to say but we will be coming back. After writing this, I now want sushi and it's barely lunch time.

Delicious sushi and incredible vibes. My friends and I met here for dinner on a Wednesday night and were seated right away. We started off with the crudo which was delicious. The fish was so fresh and it was perfectly paired with the crispy onion and jalapeño and the sauce. A perfect little bite. I got the super eel roll as well which was amazing. The eel was so fresh too and paired perfectly with the fish and the avocado. We ended with the ube churros which I highly recommend. The ube cream was light and fluffy and I could lick the bowl it was so good. I love the little touch of purple sugar on the churros as well. Our waitress was so sweet, very attentive with filling our water.

When did they change the "I want it all" from 4pieces each type of fish to 3 pieces? And had the price gone up for that dish as well? I remember it being $60ish once.. but I could be wrong.

    It's $85 now.

Is there an omakaze menu here? Thought I saw it somewhere before.

Yes they do offer omakase. They have a few options, I would the call the restaurant before booking one.

The restaurant wasn't very busy--just a few guests having lunch--but it seemed like only the bartender was working. Despite that, she handled everything really well, taking care of the bar and tables while still being attentive to us when we walked in. She greeted us promptly and made the takeout process smooth and easy. We ordered the chicken quesadillas, and they did not disappoint. The portion size was generous and came with pico de gallo, sour cream, and guacamole--exactly what my wife was hoping for. Everything tasted fresh and delicious. The only downside was the price. At around $15 plus a 20% tip, it came out to nearly $17, which felt a bit high for a quick takeout item. That said, the quality and convenience made it worth it. There was music playing, which gave the place a nice atmosphere even though it was a quiet Tuesday afternoon. Overall, if you need a quick stop for good food and efficient service, this is a solid choice.

I would definitely come back for the food and the service. However, I do have one concern that I really hope the restaurant will consider. I wish they had separate restrooms for men and women instead of having unisex restrooms. The first time I went to the restroom, there was a guy literally getting out of the restroom. When I went inside, the toilet had urine all over it. I didn't want to clean someone else's mess, so I went to the second restroom. Literally, there was another guy getting out of that restroom too, and when I went inside, he hadn't even flushed the toilet. So I had to go back to the first restroom, clean the toilet myself so I could use it, and then go back to my food. Honestly, it was very unpleasant and disturbing, and I felt nauseous afterward. I understand that restroom cleanliness depends on the people using them, but I really wish they would consider having one restroom for women and one for men. It would make the experience much more comfortable and hygienic for everyone. The food and customer service are wonderful, and I truly hope they address this issue because I would love to continue coming back.
