The lady on the phone was friendly and helpful and even went to look for the right size tree I was looking for and sent me a pic of it so I wouldn't make a wasted trip over there. When I arrived, someone helped me immediately and had us ready to go in no time. We were in and out in record time- 20 minutes tops. We normally spend a minimum of an hour at tree lots. We purchased a tree at Toby's tonight. I really enjoyed the experience. We recently moved to Walnut Creek and the owner spoke to us and told us they had been there for 35+ years which I thought was great. The staff were really friendly and the owner was very knowledgeable about the different kinds of trees. There is a ton of parking inside of Heather Farms where they are located. They also helped us load the tree inside of our small Jetta. Prices are reasonable and they offer different varieties of tress. We purchased a 7 foot Frasier fir for $50ish dollars. Have been coming here for a few years now, everyone is always in great spirits and the trees are great! I'm not sure if they're all high schoolers or college kids, but the guys out there helping us find trees are always knowledgeable, helpful, and super patient! Even load it up on our car free of charge (I always make sure to tip them though!) and have gotten all 3 of our trees home safely and they've all been a great addition to our house for the holidays! It's a lot. With trees. I really cannot understand all the five-star reviews. There is nothing special about taking over a parking lot in a park and selling trees out of that space. There's literally nothing interesting about this spot. But if you need a tree and need somebody to inexpertly tie it to the top of your car, this will do the job. They're not great trees. Or healthy trees. I have legitimate concerns about any of the trees they sold actually holding up ornaments. These are NOT GOOD TREES. And they're trimmed/shaped, which I absolutely loathe. I wish I'd gone back to Alhambra or even Pete's - at least they have popcorn and atmosphere. Please don't be duped by this spot. I mean, we got a great deal on a crappy tree and my kids are happy. But we won't be back. I'd post a photo of our crappy tree but I'm too embarrassed to admit I actually paid for it. read more

Toby's Trees offers (by far) the best tree buying experience I have found to date. The staff is friendly, attentive and has way more knowledge about each type of tree than I would have expected. We love bringing the whole family because we always feel so welcome and taken care of. I was especially pleased this year, while other tree lots had much higher prices than previous years, Toby's Trees pricing had remained consistent and fair. We too are new to the area. Having moved from WA, finding a good tree was key for our family. Short of driving around, looking for a lot, and hoping for the best, we were happy to have found Toby's on Yelp. The staff was very friendly. They had a huge assortment of trees, and all were really nicely shaped and displayed. The prices were competitive with the store-based trees (ie: Home Depot, etc), and I think these were very fresh. We were able to find a fabulous smelling tree for $45 (bring cash or your checkbook). They can mount it on a stand for you if you like (added $$), and the friendly staff member carried it out to our truck for us. He also gave us the branches we trimmed from the bottom to add to our holiday smell throughout the house. Parking was easy, and we are happily hoping to be back next year!! read more

We usually take time to decide on a tree and I appreciate how we're not rushed but there's always someone there to offer help and answer our questions. Kenny was also really helpful when we couldn't decide between trees, he went ahead and put them side by side to allow us to better compare our choices. We've been buying our tree from Toby's for nearly a decade. It was always a little bit more expensive than other lots, but we appreciated the customer service and genuine kindness from the staff. It was always worth it and it was always a joy to kick off the Christmas season there. Until this year. The lot was a mess due to heavy winds which knocked down a number of trees. I don't knock them for that at all, but as my sister, her two toddler nieces, and my 60+ yo parents were walking around selecting a tree, the young staff barely lifted a finger. When my father went to pay for the tree, he tried to pay by credit card, which Toby's doesn't take (cash or check only ). Again, that policy is fine, but the young man working the register didn't even tell my father they don't take credit card. He simply pointed to the sign. My father was confused and for whatever reason, the guy never actually verbalized or told my father that they don't take card. He just pointed at the sign and made no eye contact as my dad stood at the register confused. My father felt incredibly disrespected and went and bought a tree somewhere else. Needless to say it put quite the damper on the mood of things back home as we set up the tree. I don't know what that rude attitude was about. I'm not sure why our family was treated like that. As long-time loyal customers, it was incredibly disappointing. There are many different places we can buy a tree and you should never take your customers for granted. What a bummer. read more

Best place I've ever gotten a tree! Every employee was extremely helpful..... Genuinely! The variety of trees is awesome. You really get to see the difference between each type of tree. They also had a huge selection of Poinsettias, garland and reefs. After we chose our tree, the gentlemen cleaned it up to our liking and loaded it into the truck! Highly recommended... We wish would have been able to find a tree from Toby's but unfortunately with the shortage of trees this year everywhere and my husband and I being super picky we left without one. Our experience with the staff of Toby's was great! They were very helpful moving and spinning trees around for us so we can get a better look at them. All of the staff was also very knowledgeable about the different variety of trees that they have for sale on the lot. The trees seemed very healthy and each tree was in water. We'll definitely try Toby's again next year. read more

These guys are the absolute best and my family had one of the best experiences today picking out a tree. We we shown around by the owner, Toby, who showed us several different types of trees, explained their origins, differences in look, smell, feel, etc. He was friendly, chatting to us about Oregon, where my husband is from, the Pittsburgh Steelers (again, hubby is a fan) and pulling out trees that fit what we were looking for.We really had a wonderful time and felt special to have the place to ourselves- they were still setting up, but let us know that if the trees weren't jumping out to us, that they'd happily pull more out to show us. He opened a beauty for us, straight from the Oregon coast, and we were sold. We made sure to grab some poinsettias and tree care on our way out (check out their garlands and wreaths. If we had a bigger place, I would've grabbed those as well!). Professional, friendly, gorgeous trees that are a reasonable price and family owned!
