This place reminds me a lot of the Chinese deli markets back in China/SF Chinatown, which gave me some serious honey nut feelios. Minus one star because the hours are a little inconvenient, being open only from 9-6 on most days and closed on Sundays, and parking is very limited. The store is really small and set up as a grab and go (fill your basket with what you want and pay at the register), so no seating is available. Other than that, the food here is delicious and really authentic Chinese deli foods. They have hot/already prepared food, as well as some frozen stuff for you to save and prepare for later. I highly recommend their pan fried buns, both the veggie+shrimp and the pork ones. I also recommend the pork buns, which are filled with a LOT of meat. They also have these soy sauce braised eggs that are great snacks. And lastly their egg tarts are divine. The tart cups are a lot deeper than the average egg tart, and are on the custardy side. The tart crust is also kind of nutty (spotted a walnut, so nut allergies beware), but absolutely delicious. Their soy milk is also another one of my favorites and is made the Chinese traditional way, so don't expect any of that Silk stuff. I've got a major sweet tooth, so the sweetened version is my go to, but it's very refreshing and delicious! Other than the above which are my favorites, I've also gotten their purple rice roll, their braised tofu, and their rice dumpling (zong zi). Taste-wise these were pretty average. Overall this place has a large variety of foods that are both authentic and delicious. I finally made it to Tofu 101 and was very happy with my assortment of breads and buns. I've been wanting to come here for years, but the limited hours make it difficult. While driving around Factoria on a Saturday morning Tofu 101 popped into my head. As with any Asian place, the parking lot is a crowded mess. When I walked in the door, the store was packed with a long line waiting to check out. The store is pretty bare bones with just a few refrigerators and a table full of food warmers. It's a grab and go type of place. Hands down, my favorite item was the pan fried pork bun ($1.75). There are two kinds of pan fried pork buns. Get the triangle one. The meat has been rolled into the dough so you get layers of dough and meat with a nice crispy crust. It's large and filing. 2 of these could make a meal. The only drawback is they don't have any sauce for these buns. I tried also tried the steamed pork bun, Chinese donuts, sesame bread and a round thing that I thought was a taro dessert, which turned out to be a meat ball. I wish the items were labeled a bit better, because getting a meat ball when you are expecting dessert is not a pleasant experience. Great flavors and the turnover is so fast, everything is fresh out the oven. I didn't get any tofu products this time, but I'll be back to try some of the tofu pudding, frozen dumplings or maybe some purple rice. I had originally stopped by to eat lunch there, until I discovered they have no tables. That's fine, can't knock them for that fact. It merely delayed my disappointment when I finally went elsewhere and ate the food that I ordered. My steamed bun with pork, mustard greens, and bamboo shoots was full of liquid, and incredibly messy. What a poor concept for a food that you pick up and eat with your hands. The flavor was dominated by the bamboo shoot and what tasted like peanuts. The pork was completely bland. Unfortunately, while the bun was just mediocre, the spicy chicken that I ordered from the refrigerated section was downright bad. I read a lot of good reviews about this place so decided to give it a try. Upon arrival on Saturday morning (when they have freshly made Chinese donuts), the line was out the door (roughly 25 people in line) at 9am. The line actually moved quickly, and as items ran low, they stocked up fast. I got a little bit of everything to try. The buns are ok, decent fillings but the wrappers are meh, not much chew. The Chinese donut is super greasy and soft, and 燒餅 is dry and has no layers or elasticity. 滷肉飯is not very memorable. 飯團 has the best filling I found in Seattle and Bellevue, and the Chinese donut inside is super crispy, but the rice wrapping is very loose so it is a mess when eating it. Also got a couple of appetizer dishes - one is tofu skin and the other is pig ears Pig ear has really good flavor and very spicy. Tofu skin is thick but the soy sauce flavor didn't penetrate the layers of the tofu skin. Overall, the only things I find authentic are the unsweetened soy milk (very much the flavor I remembered from 永和豆漿) and spicy pig ear. It was $65 for the two small appetizer dishes ($4 each), a veggie bun, a large soy milk (unsweetened), 滷肉飯, 燒餅油條 , a bag of frozen dumplings, 飯團, 銀絲卷(Yin si juan) and 蛋塔 (custard tart). I would say it is on par on pricing comparing to the other places I have been. I would go back again for the pig ear, soy milk and if they have plain tofu and tofu skin, would love to try them. I think their tofu items would be very good judging from the soy milk and the bite of tofu skin. First impression is just ok. Side note - parking lot of the strip mall is a mess. A very consistent and decent place to go for Chinese-style breakfast/brunch options, with a few important notes for the uninitiated. First thing - if you come during peak lunch hours, expect a long line. It always moves decently fast, but you have to know how to navigate, especially since most of the patrons are fairly regular and will expect you to know what you're doing. Many people will ease their way into the store and try to grab everything they want before returning to the end of the queue - but many people will also line up in the queue right from the start, and quickly grab the desired items as they move up the line. Coming in a pair might honestly be the best way to handle the situation, as I've had it happen before where when I try to briefly step out of the line to grab my desired items, other folks step in and take my spot. Otherwise, try and come a little before or after peak lunchtime and you'll be set. Secondly, parking can be very hit or miss, again depending on whether or not the store has hit its peak activity. As for the food itself, I've found it all to be pretty tasty! The steamed bao definitely lean towards more doughy and fluffy than necessarily meaty, but that's to my liking anyway. I always grab the red dot (cabbage and pork) and green dot (mustard/bamboo and pork) buns when I go. The pan-fried bao are also solid - shrimp and cabbage is my favorite, but my husband really likes the pork and onion. I often grab their tofu skins, their semisweet hot soy milk is great, and they do some switching between the sides available for the day - when pork feet are available, I will often grab a bowl. One thing to note is that the food is a little bit more lightly seasoned than you might typically get at restaurants, but that's honestly a plus to me - I naturally prefer lower sodium options. Everything I get here tastes fairly clean. So if you're able to cope with a potential crowd, definitely check this place out. (I just wish they opened on Sundays!) read more

Like the other reviews state, this was a great place to get authentic Taiwanese breakfast foods. I especially loved the baos ($1.75) for both the delicious meat filling and also the soft putter buns. I also went on a Saturday and was able to get the purple rice rice-roll (3$.95) that included the Chinese donut, shredded pork, and some vegetable that gave it a little crunch. I loved it. I was surprised especially since I never really liked purple rice, but I went back later to get another one. I also tried the zhong zhi (wrapped sticky rice with meat, peanuts, and mushroom) which was good, but I felt wasn't too special. Note that this is more of a market setup, so does not include any seating. I ate in the car and went back for more afterwards. First time here It's a unassuming place but what a find! Fresh made tofu, soy bean milk, flaky pastries from Taiwan, the purple rice ball that has sour cabbage, pork floss, Chinese donut is a bomb. Steamed buns with meat just to name a few was what we bought and was all delicious. We are going back to get more tomorrow morning for more delicious goodies. So glad we found this place. Love the food there. The purple rice ball is a must try if you are there concealing half of a crunchy fried Chinese donut and rousong or pork floss inside. It is cheaper to buy the soy milk in a half gallon container that's stored in the refrigerator if you have a large group of people, or you can buy it by the cup. Personally, I think the tofu pudding is more fragrant than the tofu pudding served at Meet Fresh. My first time trying the braised pork rice bowl, $7 is a bit on the pricier side for the portion. My mom has been coming for quite some time and always bringing me back yummy goodies. I never get a chance to go because it's only opened during the day Wednesdays and Saturdays and I never seem to be able to make it in. Well, now that I work in nearby, I can come during lunch on Wednesdays. This place looks like it was pulled out of Taiwan. The place smells so good. The baozi are so big! They are filled with flavor and juices from the pork and veggies. They have different kinds of egg tarts. I have never seen chocolate egg tarts before but I will definitely be giving them a try. They have soy milk, cold, hot, sweet, and other drinks that I'm not very familiar with. My absolute FAVORITE thing is the purple rice roll/burrito (fan tuan). I have been eating this stuff since I was a kid and eating this brings me back to my childhood. My favorite thing are the pickles inside and these have A LOT of it! It is the perfect size and eating 1 fills me up (disclaimer I'm small so 1 may not fill up everyone). I walked in feeling like a kid in a candy store. I wanted to try one of everything. I refrained so that I have reason to continue to come back and try new things. So much variety. It was so cute to see all the elderly Chinese ladies in line chit chatting. I love love love this little gem! Tucked away in the middle of Factoria... If you blink you would miss it. Tofu 101 has the best fried Chinese Doughnuts I have ever had . Fluffy, Chewy, Crispy and piping hot! They are near perfection! They have many delicious items like, dumplings, hum bao, tofu, fresh soy products and Chinese pastries. They also has a pretty extensive frozen section of goodies (buns, dumplings, etc...) and a pretty nice selection of refrigerated goods as well (fresh soy milk, tofu, noodles, appetizers, etc). My absolute favorite is the sticky rice. Holy god it's good. Soft and chewy sticky rice topped with savory shiitake and woodear mushrooms, dried shrimp, chicken, shallots and peppery ground pork. For $6 you get a pretty big bowl. I would eat that everyday if I could. The egg tarts are delicious as well. They have a great Taiwanese Breakfast on Thursday mornings. A little bit of everything set out kind of cafeteria meets self serve bakery. Pick what you want, put it in a paper bag and than pay. Service is fast and friendly. Goodies here are a little pricey but well worth it for the freshness and variety. Places like this are pretty rare in Seattle so don't miss out. Tried their pan-fried and steamed bun before, which are pretty good with nicely flavored meat and diced bamboo shoots. Just tried their zongzi, which is a special food for dragon boat festival. It's a traditional Chinese food made by sticky rice, mushroom, pork, peanuts and wrapped with lotus leaves, then steamed before serving. So glad that my coworker recommended this place to me! I loveeeeee taiwanese/chinese breakfast. As a taiwanese person, I would definitely say this place is authentic. I highly recommend the purple rice roll and sticky rice wrapped in lotus leaves (not sure what the english translation is for 粽子). Steam buns and baked pastries are still available in their freezer and refrigerator for you to take home to steam/bake. I may have come on the wrong day/wrong time. This is a tiny, little take-out place to buy tofu products, steamed buns and dumplings. I know it is small, but there just wasn't much selection. A couple of different types of steamed buns, picked over tofu items. I was quite underwhelmed. I went to pick up items for dinner and couldn't find enough selection for dinner so we had to supplement. The steamed buns were fresh and I really enjoyed the vegetarian versions. My son did not care at all for the pork fillings though and he usually loves these sorts of filling. I think they were too healthy for him, haha. In addition to the steamed buns, I bought fresh soy milk. It was great, but I could have bought the same thing at any of the larger Asian markets. I have been eating a more steady amount of soybeans lately as my wife has become vegetarian. I have been meaning to try out Tofu 101 near my hotel in Bellevue for quite some time, but they always close super early at 6 pm. Finally, I got off of work a little early to come here. I was amazed by the numerous types of tofu, which includes an almond flavor pudding tofu. It was so delicious, and it was not very sweet at all. They had other meat dishes too, but I stayed with tofu noodle salad, sweet and sour tofu, and the pudding. They were all cooked and they were all either braised or soft tofu. If it wasn't for the hours, I would give this place a 5-star rating. read more

I came to check out this place because of the good reviews it got with regard to its Taiwanese breakfast goodies. Perhaps I came at a bad time, but I was a little disappointed. -Soy milk - It was good. Not overly sweet, and it was a tad on the thin side, but nothing I'd complain about. -Fan Tuan (Sticky Rice Roll) - The rice was way too sticky. It kind of all conglomerated into one mass of mushy rice, not only sticking all on to my fingers, making it hard to eat, but also ruining the texture of the whole thing. The filling was good - your standard you tiao, rou song (shredding pork), luo buo gan, etc. But the rice was a no-no. -Sao Bing - It was enjoyable. Not much else to say here. -Vegetable and Pork Steamed Bun - This was also good, but there weren't any more that were already heated up, so we had to buy the refrigerated ones and heat them up ourselves. The buns were soft and the filling was pretty tasty. -We also bought some tofu to take home, and it was only ok. I guess I was slightly disappointed in the selection - they didn't have as much stuff as I was hoping for, but again, perhaps we came at the wrong time. I would give this place a 3.5. I've only been here twice now. I think the first time was a better experience for me. I fell in love with the purple rice roll, but the last time I was there, it just fell apart on me. Had it been the end of the day, I may have understood, but we were there around noon so it should be fresh. 3rd update - they just keep adding new stuff at this place! Initially my complaint was that it had too few homemade items. Every week I go in, they seem to add new ones now - if you go on Sat/Sun (go early-ish!) you can get an assortment of steamed buns and other nice comfort foods like zongzi and a purple rice fan tuan. In addition, they've added some great frozen pot stickers (a little pricy, but we love them and buy 2-3 bags per trip) and other take-home things now. Someone else mentioned their frozen tofu, not sure what to make of it, but I have to call this out as especially good. I love my fozen tofu in hot pots or flavorful soups but normally it is only a carrier of the soup itself. The nice thing about this fresh-then-frozen tofu is that it has its own layer of flavor that really adds to the meal and has an awesome consistency. read more

Don't you hate it that Yelp does not allow Chinese? There are always tofu store wherever Chinese gather. All those lasted are good, since the barrier to entry is low, only good ones can survive. Tofu 101 is a smaller scale one. There must be good reasons for it to even exist. Everything was good, particularly fried tofu , also the purple-rice roll . We tried several Bao Zhi, all good. I love tofu . . . I REALLY do! I found Tofu 101 via Yelp one day when I was just browsing and became totally excited! A close, fresh tofu shop?! Wow, sign me up! The place is a little scant in terms of how much stuff they have. I went around ~noon so I'm not sure how much stuff they start with on a daily basis. It was really cool seeing the huge vats of tofu in the back though. Makes you feel like you're in a tofu factory tour or something! There's about 2 large fridge worth of stuff and then a hot tofu bar which starts around noon according to the owner who was very friendly and from Taiwan (gotta support my peeps)! There was soy milk (even green tea flavored ones), fresh tofu, fried tofu, bean curds, and some miscellanous stuff like fish balls, buns, and zong-zi (sticky rice wrapped in leaves). I didn't see the chinese doughnuts this time around, but I'll be back to get some for my weekend breakfast! I was a little surprised they didn't have stinky tofu, bean curd "noodles", etc. BUT they've only been open for 7 weeks, so mayhaps they'll expand their offerings as they get more settled! read more

Stumbled upon this place on Saturday when I was waiting for the hubs getting a haircut next door. I saw a line out the door at tofu 101 and decided to see what was so popular. I remember reading about it before on Yelp and online but finally tried it. Bought regular tofu pudding and almond, both was quite smooth and soft.
