I have no idea how the ratings are so high. We ordered a Hainan Chicken here for the kid and it was rough. A quick search on google and the definition is silky cooked chicken with amazing aromatics etc..... A quick look at the picture and you can see it's just very basic cooked chicken with three sauces. Of which the soy sauce was actually spicy. We couldn't figure out why the kid was crying eating chicken with soy sauce. Also the wait for the food was very very long. We basically ordered and was halfway through our other dishes at the food court before the dishes came out. read more

My husband was having lunch here with a coworker so he picked up food for me as well so I can try . Service was really fast, they got the orders out within 10 minutes or less. The place itself is also really nice. They have renovated so it's more like a food hall rather than how it use to look. Parking is also plenty. Food: Duo crispy and boiled chicken and rice - rice was soft but just ok, didn't have that aromatic taste I was hoping for. Chicken wasn't smooth and was kinda dry. The crispy chicken was also not crispy, even after heating it up Salt and pepper fried cartilage -- this was disappointing. I was hoping for at least some meat on the cartilage but it was mostly just batter and bone. Overall, I'm glad to have try it but there's better places nearby for the same price. read more

Portion sizes here are huge, but unfortunately the quality did not quite match. The salted egg yolk wings and Hainan chicken fried rice were excessively greasy, and the wings used for the fried chicken tasted old or improperly cooked. The most worthwhile dish we ordered was the Hainanese chicken plate, which tasted the freshest out of everything. - delicious but super small portion - We ordered a takeout here and the portion is super small for something over $20. We were at the Asian family mart shopping and got hungry. My son and I ordered Hainan Rice chicken combo , curry beef , and coconut jelly from Cocotree chef at the food court . The Hainan Rice lunch box was delicious and well balanced with both tender chicken meats and veggies. We especially loved the coconut jelly desert . It tasted fresh with just right amount of sweetness. Curry beef came with a big portion of beef and it was flavorful. Overall , it was a nice place to have a quick lunch or dinner . Don't know how to say this, but only come here if you like to throw lots of money on terrible, bland food. Everything just tasted "too healthy" in a not good way. Everything just needed a little more flavor or seasoning. Don't get me started about how Hainan chicken rice should taste. I came here excited to get some good Hainan chicken rice because of the reviews hyping it up. It is one of my favorite dishes and I'm always on the search for a good place. Unfortunately, I was sorely disappointed. The rice isn't flavored correctly and it was a bit dry. It was brown and lacked flavor. I was only able to eat the chicken and rice by dunking it in their sweet chilli sauce with each bite. This is something I never do because it hides the subtle fragrant flavors I come to appreciate about Hainan chicken rice. Good hainan chicken rice you don't NEED to add sauces but you CAN to embellish the flavors. The scallion ginger sauce is usually one of my favorites, but they made a bastardized version. They just blended all the ingredients in a blender instead of mincing the ingredients. I don't mind if it tasted right, but it was gross and bitter. We also got the fried chicken rice. Their fried chicken had more flavor than their Hainan chicken, but it was nothing to rave about. The fried buns with condensed milk were mediocre at best. It just tasted bland and soft. They were stingy with the condensed milk. The coconut jelly dessert isn't the famed coconut pudding desserts that have been popular lately. It's hard coconut jello/jelly. It wasn't what I expected, but it might have been the better tasting items out of the things we got. At least it had flavor. Prepare to spend $ on bland food. At least it was "healthy". I think we spent about $ 60 for 2 people: 2 entrees and 2 desserts at a food court. Located at the Asian street food court next to Asian family market. The 2 ladies that worked there were nice and the food was packaged nicely. Sadly, I can't find a good reason to justify coming back. TLDR: expensive bland food that doesn't taste right. read more

The curry beef brisket was good that I came back the next day and ordered it again with the Hainanese chicken rice. Unfortunately, they gave me the wrong order and initially refused a partial refund (I wasn't asking for a full refund). They offered to remake it next time instead, which didn't feel reassuring. After several phone calls, I was finally able to get my partial refund. The food is good, but the customer service handling was disappointing and makes me hesitant to return. read more

Stopped by AFM while shopping and decided to try this place. Didn't expect much since good Hainanese chicken is hard to find around Seattle-Bellevue, but I was genuinely impressed. The chicken was tender with a nice crisp, and the green sauce was spot on. We got the chicken rice and soup--great flavor, texture, and portion. The soup especially stood out. I don't know why it took me so long but I finally discovered the Asian Family Market food court and it is amazing. Cocotree was on our list of things to try for this visit and it did not disappoint. Ordered the mixed fried/traditional chicken rice and the fried tofu appetizer. Rice was not as flavorful as I have had but was not soggy whew. Dipping sauces were solid except I didn't quite like the green sauce as much. The fried tofu initially didn't seem like anything special until I tried the garlic/pepper sauce which was the star of the show. I think I enjoyed this version of hainanese chicken rice more than A ma in Redmond and portion was solid for the price. will come back to try some of the other options. Food did take awhile to come out despite it being a weekday lunch so would order here first and then hit up other spots if you're going to other places in the food court. read more

I'm sure some folks will complain about prices, or perhaps presentation & ambiance, but this Hainan Chicken Rice is legit! The best I've had in King County for sure. The three sauces provided cover a great range, the chicken is mostly bits-and-bones free - this is something that's just a Chinese fast food thing - the way chicken is prepared (esp. cross bone cuts with a sub-optimal knife edge and weak wrists/technique), combined with the need to move quickly, translates into the occasional hard bits, bone fragments, etc. I've studied this in depth since the early 1990s. But never mind that - just try this out at least once if your a big fan of this institutional basic - Hainan Chicken Rice (海南鸡饭) !! read more

The service is self order and the guy behind the counter doesn't acknowledge you at time if order or pick up. The chicken and rice is ehh nothing special, it's more like basic steamed chicken than anything special. The rice that comes with the chicken is Horrible mushy, odd tasting almost old mushy rice. If you're just looking for some protein just get the chicken as they do give you a good portion size of it. Wouldn't order again. read more

Cocotree Chef located in the new food court adjacent to Asian Family Grocery store. We placed an order via the kiosk for their traditional Hainan chicken rice and pick up was prompt. The entire thing was about $20 after tips and it comes with about a cup and a half of chicken broth flavored rice, steamed boneless skin on chicken thigh and some pickled daikon/cucumber with three different sauces. You def need the sauces to flavor your meal because I thought there weren't much seasoning or flavor to the meal. Also it might have been their off day because the rice we received was slightly undercooked. The gal at the front was kind and pleasant. The worst tasting Hainan Chicken Rice I have ever had. The meat was dry, they give you almost no sauce, and worst of all they give you chewy undercooked brown rice. Who in their right mind would serve brown rice with Hainan chicken? It should always be chicken rice. Sure they give you 3 different sauces, but just a thumbnail of each. Talk about cheap! Also, their dessert drinks are overpriced ($12 each!) and not very good. The owner is a liar. I ordered and received two plain coconut jelly drinks with my order. For those who've had the duck at Gion Duck Noodles in Kyoto (ik I'm comparing two completely separate cuisines), the execution of this duck is better. I got the braised beef on the side and holy shit. Most spots fail braised beef in one of two ways: overcook it and it's dry, or braise it so long that it falls apart but loses all its succulence. This one threaded the needle perfectly. Still had a bite to it while being completely succulent. One of the best I've had. The waiter suggested the Thai sausage and I'm so glad I listened. Really nice snap to it and packed a serious punch. Thai sausage is not easy to come by and I order it every chance I get. This is the version I'll be benchmarking against. Only thing I'm bummed about is missing the Hainanese chicken. It's one of my favorite dishes and I really hope they bring it back. Service was super friendly and the ambiance was really nice. Can't wait to get back to Seattle because this is absolutely on the list again!

I like what they were going for and I appreciate that but they need to be way better organized. The ordering terminals are too few and some are broken and the numbering system makes no sense.
