Okay this is the TRUE hole in a wall Bellevue experience. It's takeout only, and it's in the middle of a tucked away parking lot that definitely does not seem like it has a restaurant in it. HOWEVER -- the food here? Honestly, so good. When I went I ordered at the counter, and in the 15 minutes it took to make my food (so fast!) I saw no less than 6-7 people come to pick up orders. And they know what's up, because the dishes at Facing East are so flavorful and mouth-wateringly good that I think I'll be ordering out from here more than I probably should. I know they're mostly known for their meat dishes but as a vegetarian I had very few options. I think it's important to point out that it was well spiced, it was not spicy (caveat I like a lot of spice). First bite was delicious, but needed some chili crisp to amp up the heat a little. I used to love going here when they were a sit-down restaurant and even supported them when they became a take-out restaurant. But lately, their customer service is horrible. I placed order and pay online on their site and specifically asked for their chili oil because that's what actually makes their food decent. Multiple of times, they would leave it out. So I would asked before I leave, if they put it in the bag. And they've assured me that they did, only to find out when I get home, that they did not. I've been fooled one too many times and should have learned my lesson, but this will be the last time I go out of my way to support this business. My advice is if you do, make sure you check your bags before you leave, even if the employee tells you that they did do it. It shouldn't even have to be like that. Extremely friendly staff, and great Taiwanese beef noodle soup. Keep in mind they are mostly takeout only, they only have a single table there for someone to use outside. Extra noodles were only $2, which was a great deal. Broth was very flavorful, noodles were tender, and beef was marinated and had a nice somewhat spicy kick to it. Would recommend the pig ear also. We haven't been to Facing East since before COVID and we learned that they changed location and only do take-out now. We ordered several dishes and most of them were tasty: large spiced Pork over rice, five spiced chicken, five spiced beef shank (cold dish), pork chop over rice, and Hakka style chow fun. The beef shank cold dish was just ok, and the beef was too chewy for us. Pork chop was a little hard and overcooked. Other than that, we loved the rest, especially the five spiced chicken (which I forgot to take a picture of, sigh!). The Hakka style chow fun was also delicious, perfectly cooked. I've been wanting to try this place for a while! The online ordering process was very easy and our food was ready for pick-up when we arrived. I was pleasantly surprised that they now have a couple of small tables outside their establishment to eat at. Taiwanese Pork Burger: I loved how the peanuts tasted with the flavor of the pork and pickled vegetables. It was a lovely couple bites of food, and I would order this again. Large Spiced Pork Stew over Rice: I really enjoyed the flavor of the spiced pork, very delicious! There was plenty of rice to soak up all the flavor goodness as well. While there isn't a lot of "food" other than rice in this dish, it is pretty worth it for the cheap price. Beef Noodle Soup: There is a lot of beef in this dish, enough to share between 2 people. The noodles weren't quite cooked through though, there are still parts of the noodles where the strands didn't separate when initially cooked and parts were still relatively dry/uncooked -- even after soaking them in the soup for a while. Additionally, for people with very low spice tolerance, the "no spicy" level of spice might not be low enough for you. The flavor of the soup and beef was delicious, though! read more

I kept forgetting to Yelp this place when I was back home in Seattle! So, here goes... Surprise, surprise - this place has turned into a take out only restaurant! I grew up eating at their sit-down restaurant, so you can imagine my surprise when Google maps took me to their new take out location. I have to say, the way it was set up was pretty cute. It's a set up similar to Asian takeouts. On your left, they have refrigerated shelves with bento like boxes, snacks, and small plates. Here is what we got: Spiced pork, stew over rice ($6.95) - it was good! Maybe slightly on the salty side, but in general the pork was soft and tender. Beef noodle soup ($15.50) - really pretty good. The beef was soft (I've had softer ones though) and the broth was quite flavorful. We got them with thick noodles which made it an extra hearty soup! I would get it again. Sautéed rice vermicelli ($13.95) - really good! I wish there were slight more dried shrimp, but that is a personal preference. Pork and veggies were tasty. Facing East makes good food that's just about great. As of June 2024 they operate as a take out only location in a semi industrial strip. There's only a couple of tables outside their door, and those tables only seat two people. The popular dish is the pork hamburger using sweet pork and a bao bun. It's good, but there's brown sugar literally burying the pork and dusted everywhere in the container - it's too sweet. The also popular five spice chicken is fantastic! It's perfectly fried, juicy, and a delightful order that just needs a proper dipping sauce to set it over the top. The simple noodles with soy sauce is a pleasant but forgettable meal. Try some of the pre packaged meals near their counter for good value purchases. When you order they say they'll text me, but somehow they forgot to do that for me. While I was in Redmond, this place was my haven. It is so hard to find authentic Taiwanese place and this place is a gem. They are takeout only though, so I would consider ordering online and coming in for pickup. Pork Stew Over Rice (4.75/5): A must get. Mellow pork stewed until it melts in your mouth over a bed of rice. It brings me straight back to Taiwan. Taiwanese Pork Burger (4.5/5): I'll admit, this is a bit pricey, but the flavor profile is perfect. Braised pork belly with Taiwanese sauerkraut in a fluffy bun topped with peanuts. Definitely worth trying at least once. Taiwanese Oyster Pancake (4/5): This one is super authentic, but I did feel like it was slightly overcooked, but they are generous with the oysters. Definitely would only recommend to someone who really likes seafood though. I've been on the hunt for good Taiwanese food and a friend recommended facing east. They're located in a strip mall with safelite and other shops so parking may be a little difficult. Facing east is doing takeout for now so be sure to call ahead. They also have bentos and sides in a deli fridge. I got the popcorn chicken and sesame noodles. The popcorn chicken is thoroughly marinated in traditional flavors and is made of breast meat, not thigh meat. It's really good quality for what I've come across. The sesame noodles are okay. They're slightly spicy and numbing but good. I wish there was more sesame/peanut butter flavor but it's good as a side for a few people to share. Really good food, but quite pricey for what you get. I was able to try one of their lunch specials since they came to my office. I got the braised pork over rice which came with half an egg, some pickled and steamed veggies, and rice. There were only 3 pieces of pork which was a good lunch portion, but for ~$14 it didn't seem super worth it. The food, however, was really great! The pork was perfectly tender and melts in your mouth, and the veggies are a nice complement to the dish. The egg was also marinated which made it extra good, though they only give you half. I mean I get that food is not as good to-go and everything is just generally more expensive nowadays, but the high prices you pay just do not match the quality of the food you are getting. Hard to pass down a Taiwanese joint if the reviews are looking highly praised. They didn't offer indoor dining at the time so we just got it to go and ate inside our hotel. The lady that runs the shop on that day was very nice and had a very motherly personality that just warmed our heart. Gosh, I'm so glad that I happened to stumble upon this restaurant. The food is DELICIOUS, and it's so homey :) My go-to order at Facing East is the Spiced Pork Stew over Rice, and for the price, it's definitely amazing value! I usually also order a drink, whether it's fruit or milk tea, to go along with the Pork over Rice, and I think it's the perfect balance of food for about $10-12. One of my favorite parts about this restaurant is that the drinks also come in reusable glass containers, which are not only sustainable but also practical.
