Good enough for white folk afraid to try authentic Chinese cuisine. You'll see a lot of old white people trying their "General Tso" for the first time here, and I guess that's ok. To see people dipping a baby toe into another cultures food, however watered down, can be a step in the right direction. It also is an affordable dinner out, which is hard to come by anymore! I found the flavors a bit restrained for my palette. The Ma Po Tofu didn't have the numbing peppercorn or the sauce made the way I preferred. This is more a style of Ma Po from a region in China that I didn't particularly care for. The service is great, and I was served quickly. The restaurant feels straight out of the late 80's, early 90's. There is plenty of seating and a fun aquarium, so that brings a lot of comfort. read more

Yea's Wok is such a comforting spot for family-style Chinese and Taiwanese food. We ordered 家常豆腐, 炸酱面, 台湾麻辣牛肉面, 腐乳空心菜, 三杯鸡, and 豆沙窝饼 to share. My favorite savory dish was the Taiwanese spicy beef noodle soup. The broth was rich and flavorful, the noodles had a nice chew, and the beef came in large, tender pieces. The three-cup chicken arrived sizzling hot in a clay pot with plenty of basil and a deeply savory sauce. The 腐乳空心菜 was fresh, garlicky, and still had a good crunch. I also enjoyed the home-style tofu and zhajiang noodles--simple, hearty dishes that tasted like comforting home cooking. But the unexpected highlight was definitely the red bean pancake (豆沙窝饼)--amazing! Crispy and flaky outside, with a generous red bean filling that wasn't overly sweet. I would come back just for that. Old style Chinese American food. Went for lunch. Big lunch menu. Liked the hot and sour soup, filled with goodies. The lunch entree plates were very generous servings, and fresh ingredients. I ordered the ginger chicken which was marked "spicy". It was not spicy. It tasted very sweet with a hint of ginger. I liked the veg included, but way too much sweet sauce. TL;DR: Yea's Wok is a neighborhood mainstay but also one of the last remaining, authentic Chinese family style restaurants in the Seattle area. No dumplings, hot pot, or Szechuan-only food. Prices have gotten steeper over the years, but the taste and service is still solid. 1/FOOD: Bellevue and the greater Eastside has gotten a lot more Chinese restaurants, but many are dumplings or hot pot or Szechuan food. There's very little few Mandarin or Cantonese family style restaurants left. Here, you can get seafood chow mein, stir fry peavine, orange chicken, and other main stays. You can even order off menu items you'd normally find at these family style Mandarin restaurants (ex. peavine). 2/SERVICE: The staff has been around for ages. They speak Mandarin but also English. Super friendly and offer prompt service. My water was always refilled within minutes. 3/VIBE: Many diners are locals who aren't Chinese (or Asian), but many are Chinese... so the cuisine manages to balance authenticity with maintaining options for diverse palettes. The restaurant is in a suburb strip mall. Don't expect crowds or limited parking. Instead, expect a lot of people picking up take out! My family has visited Yea's Wok several times over the years and most recently, we picked up takeout to bring over to my grandmother for lunch. The service has always been friendly, and their King County health rating of "Excellent" stands out against other Chinese restaurants in general. We ordered four dishes, all of which we thought were alright. We wouldn't say any of them were extremely flavorful, but we would rather have that as opposed to them being overly salty. + MOO SHU PORK: I normally don't gravitate towards this dish, but I actually enjoyed it the most. Thin pieces of pork were mixed with a medley of vegetables including cabbage, carrots and mushrooms. The pork was tender and lean, while the cabbage retained a bit of crunch. The pancakes provided were thin, but held up well to the filing as we all made our little wraps. + COMBINATION CHOW MEIN: This was a typical chow mein with soft noodles, vegetables, chicken and seafood. It was okay, but nothing too memorable. The highlight for me was the snappy little shrimps. + GREEN BEANS w/ MINCED PORK: While the sauce coating these beans had a nice savory garlic flavor, the beans themselves were overcooked. Rather than having a crunch, most of them were wilted and soft. For some reason, they had an undertone of what tasted like a pickled flavor which was really strange, but luckily, it wasn't too strong. + PEPPER BEEF: Since we were bringing food to my grandma, we asked to tone down the spice on this dish, but by doing that, it may have lost some of its spark. The beef was tender and I enjoyed the various vegetables (bell peppers, zucchini, mushrooms, carrots) included, but the sauce also fell flat. One of their signature dishes is the Volcano Fried Rice, which I've had before. It's their fried rice with a reddish sauce that includes a mix of vegetables and meat, served upside down with the sauce cascading over the top, representing a volcano. Personally, I'm not a huge fan of fried rice in general, but I give it to them in terms of creativity! While I wouldn't necessarily order the above items again, I'd go back to try other dishes from their menu, given our positive experiences in the past. 3.25 stars. read more

We had lunch today at Yea's Wok in Newcastle, and while the service started off great, the food was pretty underwhelming this time around. We were seated and greeted very quickly, and got our water and menus almost immediately, which we appreciated. However, it took quite a while to get our soup, which is unusual here since it's normally brought out almost right after you choose between egg flower or hot and sour. I ordered the Mongolian beef, and my wife had the mushu chicken. Unfortunately, both dishes missed the mark. The chicken was room temperature or cooler and very bland, and there wasn't nearly enough plum sauce for the amount of food on the plate. The Mongolian beef was very tender, but also flavorless and really needed more seasoning or sauce to bring it to life. It was a slow lunch hour, quiet in the restaurant which is usual, so maybe it was just an off day in the kitchen -- Thursdays might be the "B team," because the food definitely wasn't up to their usual standards. We actually love coming here and usually look forward to a solid, reliable meal, which made this visit extra disappointing. Good and solid option for the Newcastle area and especially on the Eastside. The slat and pepper calamari here is one of my favorites in the area. The food is always hot and fresh. Every dish we have had here is always packed with authentic flavors. This place can get busy and the dining area in the main area is compact. The "waiting area" is essentially non existent. So if you have to wait for a table, you'll probably end up waiting in your vehicle. Calling in orders for to go is highly encouraged. Otherwise you end up waiting sitting in a chair feeling uncomfortable bc there is very limited space entering and leaving the restaurant. Not the most ideal set up so you'll end up waiting in your vehicle. The servings are family style and big portions. You won't be disappointed. read more

Been Coming here since I was a kid and it has been consistently decent Taiwanese food. The food were great. My favorite was the eggplant dish. Kids loved the noodles with meat sauce. Their walnut shrimp was perfectly fried with yummy walnuts. Basil with beef was also flavorful. The stirfry noodle was on the soggy side. Chicken in the clay pot was very fragrant! Forgot to order the hot and sour soup today but it is always good :) Service was excellent. We celebrated a birthday with a cake. They place the cake for us in the fridge during the meal and supplied us with little plates and knife for us to do the birthday celebration there! (Even turned down the lights for 5 second ) :). Extremely dissapointed because I've been searching for a Chinese restaurant and found out this one was fairly close to me...but I will NOT go back. $60 for 3 dishes (Hot and Sour Soup, General TSao's Chicken, Orange Beef). We dined here earlier this week for a birthday party. In total, we had 18 guests. Their servers did a good job of getting everything out of the kitchen as quickly as possible to our table and removing empty plates. Not an easy task with a group of this size. I can't even begin to name all of the dishes, but the ones that stood out to me where the house special fried rice and the tea smoked duck. Incredible! Everyone commented on how good the entrées were and how efficient the staff was. If you're looking for an authentic Chinese dining experience I highly recommend this place in Newcastle. This place is pretty good. Portions are big for the amount of money you are playing for the food. Came here after a round of golf at Newcastle and we were hungry. We ordered beef with broccoli, general tsao chicken, chicken and black bean sauce, and walnut shrimp. Everything was tasty and great. I thought we didn't order enough food between the four of us, but we had a little left over. I took a star off because some of the dishes were salty, but I didn't mind. The inside looks small when you walk in, but they have two additional rooms in the back. The staff was friendly and were always walking around looking to refill waters or rice bowls. You know a Chinese restaurant is legit when it is filled with Chinese people eating the food. Overall, would come again if i am in the area. I think the service was pretty good and I got my water filled pretty often. The space can get quite busy, so don't be surprised if you have to wait a bit. I had to order the orange chicken. My go to favorite Chinese food item. This was definitely made fresh. A wonderful tangy orange sauce. The red peppers on the side did not indicate any heat in this dish. And I steered clear of items in the menu which had the little pepper next to it. The hot and sour soup was very much a combination of that sweet and sour, not hot, tasty! I love the size of one cup. Service prompt and friendly. Where did fried rice which should have some kind of color to show that it has some kind of seasoning but it's just white rice with frozen peas and carrots in it. Also had Singapore rice noodles. We ordered takeout from here and wanted to try it out. It was very busy during Saturday diner time, and we waited for 40min for takeout. The servers were very nice. The food, on the other hand, was very salty. Since it was our first time ordering there, we got some popular dishes, such as volcano fried rice, sautéed green beans and Mongolian beef. All three entrees were very salty. I have to say, with less salt or soy sauce, the food could have tasted much better. On a positive note, the portion was fairly large. read more
