[[HIGHLIGHT]]There was plenty of seating with windows facing the south so it was bright.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]I was noisy with nothing to adsorb the noise.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The gave me an assortment of sides: potato salad, home-made tofu, chimchi, marinated bean sprouts, spicy fish cake, and broccoli. As an entree I had Japcha noodle: sweet potato noodles with ground beef and vegetables. It was in the small size but there were the side. I give the presentation and food quality a five but overall I have to rate it as a three. I had to knock it down a couple stars due to the price and serving size.
We walked by few times eating at another spot but decided to give them a try for the first time today. [[HIGHLIGHT]]They definitely have a lot of space, and ample tables.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] pricing seems a bit steep but if we leave full and happy it's a-ok. We got the oyster soon tofu, depth of flavor in broth was good, starts of savory then boom some spice kick. Seafood was tender not overcooked and the tofu was fresh and light. The short rib torched cheese is a 2 person dish. The beef fell off the bone, it was so tasty. The dish comes with zucchini onions and peppers in the mix. Balanced well with a heavy torched cheese! Definitely worth getting IMO. Probably try some of their bulgogi next time around to see how that is. The service was a bit slow and they didn't check on us very often, whilst forgetting a request for napkins or containers to go. We probably sat waiting for 5-10 minutes at a time for a lid to a container or extra napkins. Water wasn't refilled but one time during the dinner. They also had a rack of rice ready to go, regular or crispy ($2-5$ respectively). Would come back for the food, but probably not if in a rush. Since we were 1/3 parties currently there at the time they weren't bogged down and busy.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant has a relaxing atmosphere, with chill k-pop music videos playing on the wide screen TV by the bar.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The service was fast and my server was friendly and polite. After I ordered, he brought out 6 banchans and a sample of their house made tofu. I was blown away with the tofu! It was fresh and silky, and the light sauce that was drizzled on top gave it a nice pop of flavor. I also loved the variety of banchans. They were all delicious, especially the fish cake, kim chi, and bean sprouts. Here's what I ordered for the main dish: Seafood Soon Tofu ($18.99) The tofu stew came piping hot and bubbling as it came to the table. I got it in mild spice level and it had great flavor with just the right amount of kick. There were chunks of tofu with 2 big pieces of shrimp that were de-veined and a mussel, as well as small pieces of clams throughout. It came with an egg already cracked inside of the stew and a side of steamed rice as well. Overall, I left feeling full and satisfied. I was also able to bring home the leftover rice and side dishes. Price wise, it's more expensive than other restaurants, but you are getting better quality.

For the price it wasn't worth it - you can find one elsewhere in Allston for much cheaper and similar quality. Overall, I thought the meal was fine. I'm glad I checked the spot out and the service was good, just not worth it to again I think.
Had lower expectations but was pleasantly surprised. They use slightly firmer tofu compared to most soondubu places and cook it well enough where it absorbs flavor but not enough to start breaking down. The extra tofu on the side also added a different texture! [[HIGHLIGHT]]Good lighting/volume and service (namely refilling waters).[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Probably about $3 more than other soondubu places in Allston, so probably not my go-to but definitely would be open to going again!
Delicious! Was going to go to Kaju but it was packed. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Tofu Story had plenty of space.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I didn't expect the banchan and it was a delicious surprise. Sundubu was perfect. Would have liked my egg a little less done but it was still tasty. I think I would order a little spicier next time.

Everything is cooked by one Korean lady. She comes in early and makes all banchan by herself. This place has the best kimchi I have tasted in Boston. You can tell that the kimchi was made with a variety of fruits, ginger and garlic. The tofu soups were delicious. Service: Because we were the first table and there weren't that many people around, the service was great. We even got to chat with the chef! You can tell that she is very passionate about her cooking. She told us that she uses no MSG and thinks deeply about how to make the food more flavorful. She said that it might take longer but she wants her customers to walk out feeling healthier. We would definitely come back again.
The restaurant itself was super cute and cozy. There weren't many people when I went so it felt really relaxing. The tofu soup was the perfect food for a cold wintery Boston day. The soup was good - the tofu is very fresh and soft. In addition, the meat quality of LA Galbi was good and the portion was decent. I thought that the food is slightly expensive for what it is, but I enjoyed it!
I am so disappointed at this place. It was spacious and give out like a late night Korean hangout vibe, but the food and the service is not where near acceptable... First the food takes so long to serve, even when it was not crowded at all. Secondly, the portion is small compared to its price tag. Secondly, I didn't have anyone refill my water during the time I was there.

The waiter was very attentive, and the atmosphere felt cozy and calming. We ordered the kimchi tofu soup and the mixed soon tofu (both mild) with egg and rice. I have to say, both soups were amazing, and the spice level was perfect. I especially enjoyed the mixed soon tofu soup because of the delicious combination of spice, seafood, beef, and soft tofu all in one dish. The rice was perfectly cooked as well. My only critique would be the number of banchans served. I usually see more than four at most places, but the ones provided were still pretty good. If you have the chance to visit during an off-peak time, you'll definitely get that 10/10 service.
Ooouh! I've been meaning to try Tofu Story 두부 이야기 for a grip now! The first time I wanted to give Tofu Story a try was when we were in the area & were waiting for a table at Kaju Tofu House across the street. So glad that we eventually decided to make the trip for dinner, last week. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Okay so, pretty large restaurant! Lots of tables available & looks like they can accommodate big parties.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I thought that it was super cool that they offer two different rice options, regular rice $2 & crispy rice for $5. I didn't end up getting the crispy rice but I still thought the concept was cool and different. For food, we kept it simple & ordered: -spicy short rib w/ torched cheese for 2 -oyster soon tofu After we ordered, we were served banchan, which came with 7 different side dishes to try. Our favorite is always the fish cake! I also really enjoyed the house made tofu! Thoughts: The oyster soon tofu was so yummy! Very flavorful and was actually pretty spicy lol. Normally, I'm good with spice but this caught me off guard haha. Still enjoyed it though. I wish they could've given a little more of the oysters. The tofu itself was great! I noticed the tofu was different from other places in the area, in terms of the texture, & I am no tofu expert by any means I just love eating tofu, but it was excellent! Now, the spicy short ribs were AMAZING & a must try dish! Absolutely delicious... I would say if there's one dish you must get from here, it's this one. In terms of spice level, it's not that spicy at all. This dish is packed with flavor though and we found the ribs to be very tender, fall off the bone tender! This dish also came with potatoes, zucchini, onions, and red bell peppers. One of the things we noticed when we first sat down at the table was, the prices were pretty steep compared to others in this area BUT the food makes up for it, imo... especially the short ribs! The only reason for the 4 stars instead of 5 stars, is because the service is very meh. Three different workers helped us throughout our meal. When we asked if we could get more napkins, they would disappear and come back forgetting that we asked for napkins... 3 times. The food also took forever to come & at one point, there was no music playing (music was played via someone's phone no speakers). At the end of our meal when we were wrapping up and paid for the bill, we requested for take out containers. We got three containers with two lids so we were missing a lid & one of the workers we asked to get one more lid disappeared for 5-10 min and came back forgetting about it. We asked another employee if we could get a lid and she disappeared for 5 min as well but did bring us a lid lol. So, I would say if you are in a rush, I don't know if this is the best place to go to but the food IS very good and is one of the better options that Allston (tbh MA, in general) has to offer.
A great addition to the Allston food scene! As expected, theyre really busy due to the grand opening, so the wait was about 45 mins on a Sunday night. Their dishes are a little expensive, but the flavors are there. We really enjoyed the torched galbi! It was very instagrammable and tasty. The galbi itself was tender and they loaded the dish up with a ton of yummy tteokbokki and cheese. It's definitely more than enough to serve two. The mandu soup was just okay. The mandu themselves didn't have much flavor but the broth was nicely seasoned. It was pretty small for a $18 soup. The service was pretty slow, and they forgot about our table twice. It took a while for them to take our order, and they almost forgot to bring us the check lol. They were very apologetic and nice about it though, and it seems like something they can easily work on. Not to mention it was so packed, that I don't really blame them for still figuring things out in the beginning. Overall, would definitely come back.

On a Friday evening I decided to try Tofu Story. At 6:45pm. the establishment seemed half full, so I received a seat immediately. I ended up ordering the seafood soondubu ($18.99). I first received some banchan - cabbage kimchi, radish kimchi, fried fish cake, and stewed radish strips. They were all excellent. The cabbage kimchi had a rich seafood stock flavor with some smokiness to it. The radish kimchi had actually absorbed flavor rather than just sitting in brine. The fish cake had a hondashi-like umami, and the sliced onions tasted like they came out of a gyudon - soaked through with soy sauce. They also brought out a small sample of their housemade tofu before the main dish. It was soft and silky. The seafood soondubu ($18.99) was equally excellent. The tofu had enough flavor to stand on its own; it wasn't just a protein filler. The seafood had some smokiness/ wok hei to it, which wouldn't be out of place in a bowl of jjampong. The soondubu here might be a couple of dollars more than other nearby establishments, but it's well worth it. read more

i have visited about 3 times and have loved the food every time! their pancakes are crispy and light. their tofu soups have a different taste compared to other soups i've had--kind of lighter (?) but still super flavorful. the short ribs are worth it. get them. spicy squid is also delicious read more

I recently heard about Tofu Story since it's opened up somewhat recently and decided to give it a try after passing by a few times. Based on the menu and interior decor this place had potential! There are so many options for Korean food in Allston that there is definitely a lot of competition. However, my overall experience here was not amazing so I unfortunately do not think I would return. First off, the decor and ambiance of the restaurant was newly renovated, spacious, decent number of tables, and pretty good overall. However, it was mainly the food and service that was lacking. Both my friend and I ordered the beef tofu soup, I asked for an egg in mine while he didn't, both at different levels of spiciness. Considering it was a fairly simple order, they managed to put an egg in his soup by accident. We had to check in with the waiters 2-3x for them to finally get it fixed, meanwhile waiting for my soup as they took it back to the kitchen to add the egg I originally ordered. Secondly, I just was not in love with the tofu soup. I really liked the side of tofu they gave me (with soy sauce?) as part of the ban chan(?) but the broth of the tofu soup itself was pretty bland. Did not have much flavor unless I added more of the chili oil spice itself. The quantity of the tofu was also questionably low, but at least the tofu was soft and seemed high quality. Great addition to the restaurant row in Allston! I was wowed by how big the restaurant is as soon as I walked in. The layout is simple and classic and has so many seating! Their menu specializes in different tofu stews along with other classic dishes. I got the beef tofu stew and upgraded the rice to Sotbap (scorched rice and the waitress poured barley tea(?) into the hot stone pot to turn it into nurungi). This might have been the best tofu stew I have tried in the area in a while and the Sotbap is a good addition (it calms your stomach down after spice kick from your stew, but I can see it might be an acquired taste). We were told that the tofu was made fresh in house and it really just melts in your mouth. The portions are quite small for the price in my opinion. The banchans were simple yet tasty! I would like to go back there to try their other dishes especially spicy kalbijjim! All in all, a solid tofu place with great atmosphere! -8.5/10 read more
Seafood pancake- super crispy edges with a soft fluffy interior. Squid was soft Oyster Soontofu - the tofu and eggs are silky soft. Don't pick up the bowl or you'll get charcoal all over your hands. Stone pot bibibap - super crunchy rice. Get the pork Beef bulgogi - the portion was way smaller than what the picture showed. Not worth $30. And oddly sweet Service was quick but they do require all members of your party to be present before seating. read more
Come early to avoid wait. We came in on a Sunday at 430pm and there were plenty of tables. An hour later it started to fill up and there was a wait. Very modern and nicely designed inside. Spacious. Staff were all very friendly and courteous. They start you off with 4 Banchan and complimentary house made Tofu. You can immediately taste that the Tofu is made in house and not like the store bought ones. The texture is very silky and fresh. If I could, would give 3.5 stars. Food is pricey for decent quality. We got the seafood and ham and sausage Tofu soups. Just like other Korean Tofu soup spots, this does take time to make, so order this first. Not sure if it's because the Tofu is so fresh and soft that it melted in the soup, but it doesn't appear to have much Tofu in the soups compared to other places. We are the sotbop to one of the soups and would say not worth the additional $3. The white rice that came with the soups tasted a bit undercooked. The grilled mackerel was tasty and didn't need any sauce. The kimchi and pork dumplings were crispy and light in flavor. The bbq short ribs were a bit chewy. The pork bulgogi lacked flavor and tasted a bit weird. read more

I finally got to check out the new business here and was pleasantly surprised. I ordered takeout and got the oyster soon tofu and spicy squid bibimbap. The food took about 15 minutes to prepare and the food was packaged nicely and included some banchan to enjoy as well. [[HIGHLIGHT]]There's plenty of tables if you're dining in to enjoy a meal.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I got mild spice level which was accurately spiced. There were about 5 oysters, which were perfectly cooked and had a nice fresh taste to them. The tofu was firm and there are plenty of vegetables in the soup. The banchan include kimchi, broccoli, and spicy strips. Tofu story is a great addition to the many Korean restaurants in the area and I would recommend checking them out if you're in the area. read more

Great spot for tofu soup! I went on a Sunday for lunch and it was not too busy but after an hour, the place was filled! So make sure to come early to get a seat. read more

Food was wonderful. We enjoyed two dishes we ordered. Dol-sot Bibimbob and Polk Tofu. Dol-sot (stone pot) was heated to hot enough to get the rise on the bottom to be seared as crispy and the ingredients were all proportioned well so my wife enjoyed so much. Polk-tofu...I think they made a tofu or getting it from handmade place. I can taste the flavor of fresh tofu. I used to eat slightly less salty so it was little bit more seasoned but with the rice in it, it was so good. I ordered Sot-bob (pressure cooker rice) was also a great choice. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The owner and server was friendly and the place was clean and have ample space.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]It was right after they opened on Thursday 11:00am so not many customers were there.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] If you want to try traditional K-food, try this place. read more
This is my last review of 2024, and I'm glad I can write about my experience at Tofu Story. As a tofu and soondubu fan, one of Koreatown's newest additions, Tofu Story, had been on my radar for some time. I guess what was making me hesitant were the steep prices. Not sure about you but soondubu that's close to $20 comes with high expectations. Their menu is on the "less is more" side with very simple choices of the type of soondubu they offer. They have the standard beef, seafood, mixed and a few others. Of course, you can adjust the spiciness levels too. The soup was tasty and it felt nice to have a bowl of soup during a winter's evening. What's kind of a bummer is how their stone rice is an extra $3. Regular rice is included. Not like some other big name chains out there that include the stone rice with the soondubu. Side dishes were skimpy but tasty as well. Very few options, as you can see from my pictures. Service was excellent and the restaurant is nice and spacious and aesthetically pleasing. I know parking can kind of be a headache in this area because of street parking. Overall, it was a lovely first dinner at Tofu Story. I don't think I will come here often because of how pricey the food is here but occasionally, it could be a nice treat. read more

My partner and I shared a kimchi pancake, beef soon tofu stew (medium spicy w egg and sotbap rice), BBQ ribs (w steamed rice), and grilled mackerel - TASTE: 5/5 - super satisfying! Highlights included the comforting and tasty soondubu-jjigae, sweet galbi ribs w the refreshing side of green onion, and salty mackerel TEXTURE: 4/5 - great textures all around, from the banchan's crunchy bean sprouts and tender fish cakes, thin kimchi pancake w crispy edges, and soft tofu stew PRICE: 4/5 - be prepared for $17+ soon tofu stew and $27+ BBQ entree price points. Our subtotal already came to $90 SERVING SIZE: 4/5 - ordered a lot between the two of us, so we left lunch very full SERVICE: 5/5 - walked in at 12:30pm on a Sunday and there were plenty of open tables. The soondubu here is not normal lol We waited between 30-45 min to get seated and I didn't think this place was worth the wait. There was only 1 actual server going from table to table, I felt so bad. The soondubu is so heavy on the anchovy flavor, I felt like it lacked depth and missed a lot of the gochugaru flavor, and even more so if you got just mild spice. It was also expensive. Our server was super attentive and made it a point to let us know we could get more banchan if we want :) Food: The server brought 6 banchan dishes and a sampler of the homemade fresh tofu. The fresh tofu was absolutely the star of the show. It was delicious and I could taste the soy bean. Rest of the banchan dishes were alright, nothing to complain about, but also nothing to rave about. My friend ordered the oyster tofu soup and I ordered the seafood tofu soup, both in medium spicy and came with an egg. The soup is lacking in depth, I could not really taste the clams or chilli in the soup base expected in soft tofu soup. Medium spice was not spicy to me. And somehow the soup overpower that fresh, soy-bean taste of their incredible tofu. Seafood pancake had a slightly grainy texture, not enough scallions, but the seafood itself tasted good and came in a generous portion! Would come back with friends. The interior is nice and clean, the food was okay, but the price was out of my expectations. I ordered pork tofu stew with egg. I guess their sotbap might be their selling point but the additional cost was too high for me. The variety was not that great, only three kinds, kimchi, cucumbers, and bean sprouts and they are all on the saltier side. Would love to see if they offered a sweeter or a different flavored side dish like fish cake, corn, or others. The banchan was refilled without my request so that's really nice. I always think the amount of banchan is not enough in restaurants in the US and they refilled it quickly. I would like to come back with friends in the future and try the sotbap. TofuStory is a new Sundubu (tofu soup) spot located right in the heart of Allston, featuring big glass windows that let you see right into the bustling interior. Even though there was a crowd waiting, we were seated quickly thanks to the ample seating available. They also had a screen playing Korean music, which added to the vibe. Service was efficient and friendly, even in the busy atmosphere. They handled a minor water spill quickly and professionally, getting everything cleaned up right away. The prices are reasonable, though I found the portions slightly smaller than I'm used to for similar dishes. I tried the pork Sundubu, which had excellent flavors, with very soft tofu and tender pork. I ordered medium spice, which was surprisingly hot--so I'd recommend going with mild if you're sensitive to spice. The banchan was typical, but they served a special tofu dish with sauce that was especially tasty. My only concerns were the wait time and the Kimchi pancake. I prefer a crispier pancake, but this one was a bit soft and didn't hold together well, lacking much flavor outside of the kimchi. It was priced similarly to the soup, which felt fair for the portion, but I probably wouldn't order it again. Our food took around 20-25 minutes to arrive, which felt a bit long compared to similar spots. Given it's a new restaurant and was packed, I imagine it may be quicker during off-peak times. My sister and I walked in on a Wednesday for lunch and were seated immediately. The restaurant was quite spacious and nicely decorated. I enjoyed the overall ambiance. We ordered the Seafood Pancake, Mandu SoonTofu, and Beef SoonTofu. The banchan they served was great. I enjoyed the marinade of all these side dishes and the fish was delicious. The homemade tofu they served with sauce was also enjoyable. I did find the zucchini slightly overcooked, but it was fine. The seafood pancake was really disappointing. For how expensive it is compared to other spots in Allston, I expected a bit more. It had a decent amount of seafood, but the taste of pepper was overwhelming. The flavor was so strong I could not taste anything else in the dish. I was hoping the tofu soup would redeem this, but I was left with further disappointment. I had asked for medium spicy and was astonished to find the taste of the broth sweet?! It did not have the savory taste I was expecting from other tofu soups. I ended up pouring in some of the kimchi from the banchan to help with the flavoring. The tofu soup had quite a bit of onions and zucchini which was nice. Overall, I could not justify coming here over Kaju in the area. I was really excited to find another tofu store in Allston but unfortunately, they did not meet my expectations. read more

Everything was so delicious!! Spice level was perfect and everything was seasoned so well. I got the Korean raw crab and the beef short ribs . Both were amazing. They also had fresh tofu as side dishes, which was also very good. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The place is very nice and clean.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]This is one of the best Korean spots I've been to in Boston 10/10 definitely will be back. read more
