    Oysters on the 1/2 Shell
    Ying X.

A seafood shop by the Morro Bay seaside. Fish & Chips 5-piece: Unlike British fish and chips, the batter is only a thin layer, and it's not fried as hot, so you can really taste the tender fish - very satisfying. Oysters on the 1/2 Shell: The oysters were fresh but rather small, nothing special on their own. However, the cocktail sauce was a perfect balance of sour, sweet, and spicy, so I kept dipping the chips in it... Eating fish and chips while enjoying the sea view and listening to a blues band playing - if you're not in a rush, it's truly a delightful experience.

We were craving fish and chips and our day led us to Dockside Too! This is a gem at the end of the road and worth the longer walk! Tables were full but turnover worked in our favor. We ordered fish and chips and they were tasty and battered in a light batter that encased the juicy fish! The only disappointing aspect of our entree was that we wish the pieces were larger and thicker. The chips were very good and the dill forward tartar sauce was especially complementary to the fish. If you are looking to enjoy seafood consider this establishment! Line is surprisingly shorter and you won't be disappointed! The time you save waiting in line you can enjoy the rest of Morro Bay!!

View from our outside table. Great live music daily

My food recommendation is the fried clams and the fish and chips. There is so much to choose from. Fresh fish, clam chowder and more.

Hefty portions, friendly down-to-earth staff, and a relaxed, easygoing atmosphere. The partial view is a nice bonus, making it a great spot to unwind and watch the sunset.

This spot is favorite place for grilled oysters and has an amazing view of Morro Bay. The oysters are grilled to perfection and slathered in garlic butter making this a memorable eat. The clam chowder was great, but it's about the oysters. Also, this venue has live music and super dog friendly. Last, if you're lucky you might spot some sea otters swimming by during your meal.

You order at the fish counter and they call your name when your order is ready. Outside seating only with serve yourself utensils and condiments. Very informal. We went for the live music - but got there when he was done. Sorry we missed it. I guess I was expecting fresh fish and chips to taste better - they were just okay. The portion size is nice with a lot of fries. The clam chowder was just okay, too.

Hubby and I enjoying lunch and a great view.

My husband nice up here every time we visit Morro Bay. Best fish tacos ever! A fish taco, ice cold beer live music with a great view of the Bay. What more could you want? Staff is always upbeat, friendly and engaging. Love, love, love this place!

Two of us and our pup came on a Saturday around 11:30am. We ordered a dozen raw oysters and the combo fried seafood and grabbed a seat. There were maybe 5 other parties there, but we were lucky to get a table on the edge and with some shade. Maybe 10 minutes later, they call your name to pick up the food from the counter. The oysters were good medium sized oysters, meaty and delicious. The fried seafood combo came with fish, scallops, shrimp, calamari tubes/tentacles, oysters and fries. The batter on the shrimp looked really thick, was actually surprisingly good! The fried tentacles and oysters were my favorite from that basket. The scallop were meh for me. This was plenty of food for two people! Overall I was satisfied! They had live music and great view of Morro Rock. They have outdoor seating only, so I can imagine winters being cold. They are dog friendly and have dog bowls for water and dog treats!

Great guitar solo artist playing while you order and dine. I always have shark kbob with a green salad. The toppings are full and fresh. The "team" always earns a full tip because they rush and work hard to maki's a memory event. Order the oysters by 1, they are huge! Thanks Captain T, never a bad day here. Oh and please clap and top the artist.

There was live music so my mom and my son were dancing to it.

This place is great! It has ordering inside but you sit outside on the patio on the dock. The guys who took our order were friendly and efficient. After you order you can go pick a place to sit outside. You have a lovely view of Morro Rock. And I didn't check what days live music is but they started setting up and played while we were there. We loved the live music. We went on a Friday. We ordered 5 piece fish and chips and shrimp and chips. We shared those two orders for all 4 of us and it was perfect. The fish was delicious, flaky, tender and juicy. I love fish with lemon juice and my boys love fish with tartar sauce. The shrimp was huge and we shared that as well, my son wanted to eat it all but got full so we had some. It was also tender and so good. Please come check this place out, they are close to the original Tognozzinis regular restaurant.

The grilled oysters made it easily as the top 3 oysters I ever had and although they marginally did not make it to #1, they were definitely not in 3rd place. Live music compliments from a man with his guitar on a sunny sunsetting Friday afternoon and since they are dockside, you get to see the fishermen at work close by and it really provides the environment of a seaside town without it being overpriced and pretentious. We originally ordered a set of 4 grilled oysters, clam chowder, and as recommended by the cashier, a couple of the smoked shrimp tacos. The oysters were grilled to perfection with butter and garlic. Not dry at all and still juicy. The oysters were well shucked (no pieces of the shell ended up on the oyster) and it was already detached for easy eating. The smoked shrimp tacos were a great recommendation. I think the seasoning wasn't too complicated; salt, pepper, and a paprika to really let the shrimp do most of the talking. As for the clam chowder, I think it was okay. Came there only for the oysters anyways. As mentioned, we initially got a set of 4 grilled oysters but they were so good that we ended up coming back 30 minutes later to get 6 more after getting our last few pictures of the sunset next to Morro Rock. As for service, this is a take-out only joint, so besides the cashier taking your order, the bussers making sure the outside tables are clean to keep the seabirds away, and you picking up your own order, there is nothing more than that. Will be dreaming about those grilled oysters until we come back.

Ask the Community - Tognazzini's Dockside Too

    Do we need reservations?

No, it's super casual, patio dining and ordering food at a counter. First come, first serve. Dress warmly since the patio is on the dock.

Are there long waits during lunch? Is it ok to go without reservations?

It's a very popular place to eat for tourists and locals as well so it does get busy however lines move fast. It is also a very laid back joint so no reservations needed. Highly recommended.

On a quick day trip on a Friday afternoon, we decided to give this place a try. No reservation and were promptly greeted and seated. Although we did not have a full bay view, we had a partial bay view. Some hits and misses with food and service. 1. Bowl of Clam Chowder (no bread bowls available). Chowder was piping hot and had nice pieces of clams (dad got a bit of clam shell..so be careful), celery and potatoes. The chowder was very creamy and not grainy or watery like other locations. I would definitely order again 5/5 2. Fish & Chips: Fresh Pacific cod, lightly breaded, served with house-made tartar sauce. Fish was fried to perfection. 5/5 3. Seafood Pasta: Linguini with jumbo prawns, fresh catch, Cajun cream sauce, garlic bread. Everything tasted fresh and seasoned perfectly 5/5 4. Side of Garlic bread: extremely disappointing. We ordered garlic bread with our chowder, it never came. Waitress decided to serve it with the mains (fish and chips) and we ordered for the entire table and she only brought 2 pieces. 5. Insalata Molina: Mixed greens, arugula, pear, walnuts, crumbled blue cheese, mango vinaigrette. Couldn't tell you if this was any good bc the waitress NEVER brought but charged us for it. She then takes it off the bill and brings me the salad in a Styrofoam container. I told her I didn't want it and put it in my bag. Salad was so soggy (which means the kitchen prepared it and the waitress forgot to serve it) I would not order and do not recommend ordering it bc it was the size of a side salad definitely not worth the price point. 6. Mocktail Lavender lemonade: definitely not balanced, was pretty tart and again the price point was off. It was about 8oz lemonade for $12 They do offer a nice selection of wines. Restrooms are located outside the restaurant and are public restrooms, pretty dirty and out of stock. Although our service was a big miss, I do recommend the food items we ordered. I did take a star off due to the service.

Unfortunately, each visit has felt a little less impressive than the one before it, and this most recent experience was disappointing enough that I probably would not return. Parking is usually easy, and I have never had to walk more than a couple of minutes. There are also a couple of EV spaces nearby. When my girlfriend and I walked inside, the restaurant felt unusually warm, humid, and stuffy. It was uncomfortable enough that we briefly considered leaving. We chose outdoor seating instead, but that comes with its own drawbacks. The tables are exposed to the afternoon sun, pedestrians walk just feet away, vehicles pass close by, and the working dock is nearby, so you hear forklifts, unloading equipment, and active fishing operations throughout the meal. We started with the Oysters Rockefeller, which I have ordered on all three visits. They were good and are honestly one of the main reasons I have continued returning. They are not easy to find where I live, and this version is enjoyable, even if it is not on the level of what I have had in places like New Orleans. My girlfriend ordered the clam chowder with bacon. We have been comparing clam chowders around the Central Coast, and unfortunately this one ranked last among the several we have tried so far. She described it as average and nothing memorable. I ordered the steamer clams, and this was easily the biggest disappointment. The very first clam I ate had noticeable grit in it, and unfortunately that continued through most of the bowl. I would estimate that the majority of the clams had some amount of sand or grit, which made them unpleasant to eat. I also found one clam that remained completely closed after cooking. I left it untouched. At a restaurant specializing in seafood, I expected more careful preparation and inspection. The broth was also surprisingly bland. I ended up adding hot sauce just to give it more flavor. As I worked through the broth, I also noticed three small hairs. I cannot say where they came from, but finding multiple hairs in the same dish was understandably concerning and further reduced my appetite. The service did not help. Our server took our order, delivered drinks and food, and eventually brought the check, but there was very little interaction between those points. No one checked whether we needed anything or asked how the food was going. That was especially frustrating because if someone had checked in, I would have had an opportunity to mention the problems with the clams while I was eating them. Overall, the Oysters Rockefeller were still good, but almost everything else about this visit was disappointing: the uncomfortable indoor environment, noisy outdoor seating, average chowder, gritty clams, bland broth, cleanliness concerns, and minimal service. I have enjoyed this restaurant more in the past, but after this experience, I think there are other places around Morro Bay where I would rather spend my money.
