    Unagi Roll

From the family: "Delicious Portins were big. Can't believe how fast the food got here." I'd like to have a salmon and tuna roll combo. Also would be good if I didn't have to ask for cucumber or avocado as a side. Tuna and salmon and unagi bowl was great. Snow White was good with the lemon slices. Combination of fish was good. Pink Bear and Salmon temptation were lovely. Server was friendly. Miso was good. Plenty of seating. Short walk from the hotel.

Drove here from Cambria to eat sushi for dinner. Kids and husband were craving sushi. The ambiance here is nice specially if you sit by the window you will have a great view of Morro Rock. The food is average. Not the types of rolls we like. Seemed like everything had either crab meat in it or broiled shrimp. We liked the rainbow roll and the rest we ordered was ok. The tuna somehow had an aftertaste of bbq something. Can't say exactly what. But anyway it's an ok place if you are craving sushi and there aren't many sushi spots in the area. Coming from LA it's hard to find a good sushi spot in a lot of cities. Customer service was ok. Our waiter wasn't too friendly and he wasn't unfriendly either. The most important we had a good time with family and made some memories.

This is my first time being here. Last year, we tried to but it was closed the day after Thanksgiving. The service was amazing. We had Taylor's. She was sweet and very accommodating. My son ordered the bento sushi. He wanted more salmon. The chef definitely gave that to my son. A lot of salmon. My mom asked if she can pack her bento box to-go. She said no problem. I wanted to pack it for my mom. But, she helped anyways. I ordered the seafood tofu soup. Quail egg shooter. It was worth it and the lunch special was also. Sorry I didn't take a good photo. I was eating it during and forgot to before we ate lol. We will definitely come back here again. Thanks for a lovely time

    Sizzling chicken katsu

Came for lunch on a weekday and was seated immediately. Ordered sizzling katsu chicken which came out hot but not on a sizzling platter. Good portion, well cooked, served with small soup, salad and white rice. Ordered the spicy rainbow roll and the ultimate salmon roll. Both were beautiful and delicious! Service was prompt and friendly. Price was reasonable for the portion size. Great place for sushi in Morro Bay!

Being next to the ocean, I was excited to get some fresh sushi, but I was so disappointed with the quality of the sushi at this place. The sushi was really chewy, tasted fishy, and the ginger looked like it was expiring. The plate that they brought out was still dirty, and the house sake tasted horrible. The service was really good though; Makena did an excellent job, and the decor was pretty cool, but based on food quality, I would not recommend this place.

Delicious food and really good service. Nice ambiance. Quiet. Nice decor. Good sake selection. Prices were according to the area. The fish was fresh. They do have fresh wasabi, which is a plus, imo. Recommend for a quick good quality sushi.

    Spicy Tofu Stew w/ Vegetable

I choose to eat vegetarian, rarely pescatarian. As such, there is usually something vegetarian at sushi restaurants but I would have never considered a sushi restaurant in Morro Bay to have such an extensive menu! To be honest, this place is so hidden away, I didn't even know it was there! I came after a friend recommended the Tofu Stew to me. It sounded good on a drizzly, overcast day. Note: the Tofu Stew is NOT vegetarian as it has some seasonings with fish. But I decided to try it and it was amazing. My non-vegetarian friend got a sushi appetizer and loved that. Lots of flavor in everything we had. The menu is quite extensive and even my seafood-averse husband is looking forward to giving this place a try. I can't wait to try the actual vegetarian options on the menu! The setting is beautifully appointed. I loved the decor and the kettle-over-a-fire pit was a lovely touch. (I wish I had gotten photos.) Some tables even have a view of the water peaking between shops on the Embarcadero. It's off the beaten path (but right above the best (garden) shop in town. A cozy spot for a quiet lunch indoors. One odd touch were the beautiful but far from functional metal tea cups. The cups burned our hands while simultaneously draining the heat from the tea. We had to ask for an alternative so that we could comfortably drink our hot tea. Service was fine, mostly absent but there when we needed it. I'll definitely go back!

After a morning of whale watching, we decided on Japanese at Umi Sushi & Sake. Walking up the stars, and entering the restaurant, we were seated immediately. Going in for lunch during the week, we had the opportunity to sit in the one of the only two booths with a view of the Morro Rock which added to the ambience. We ordered a couple of bento combos that came with soup, salad, gyoza, cali/spicy tuna roll and your choice of main. We got 1 with sashimi, and the other with chicken teriyaki. We also tried their yellowtail collar and their veggie tempura. The sashimi was pretty fresh. The fish collar was delicious. And the tempura was fried nicely. The staff was attentive and friendly. We had a solid experience and wouldn't mind coming back again.

Great service and sushi. We got the monkey balls as an app and devoured them. Then we moved on to the rose roll and a salmon tempura roll. Both were fantastic. The restaurant is fun and enjoyable. Definitely a nice touch to the down town harbor scene. Go here if you don't want all fried heavy food! It's yummy!

Food was a 5/5 Service was good Ambiance it was chill overall I would definitely come back if I'm in the area Chicken Yakisoba + side of steam riced

We arrived into town at 8:10pm and got to the restaurant since they said they were open until 9pm. The young hostess said they were closing in 5 minutes so they would not seat us. I said that I saw they were open until 9pm and she said oh yes but we take our last seating at 8:15pm. So we can't seat you. She was extremely rude and unprofessional. I would not return here.

The outdoor seating is under a beautiful tree with a fire pit and space heaters which feels very cozy, laidback, & can also be a great place to take someone for a date night. We had the salted edamame & vegetable tempura for appetizers, & shared the itchy dragon & firecracker rolls. I had the shoyu ramen with pork and shrimp tempura which was wonderful since it was a cool evening. Everything was amazing and the ramen was absolutely delicious! During dinner we were discussing booking a restaurant venue to celebrate their graduation & our server overheard us & told us they had a small banquet room. It was a no brainer, he gave us (Niko) the restaurant managers number & after speaking to him I booked their banquet room. We were a small party of twenty and I wanted to surprise my daughter & fiancé by decorating the place with some flowers, simple decor, & a cake. I was worried since I was arranging everything from 3 hours away, but Niko and the entire staff at Kuma made it easy. I would highly recommend booking them for any occasion the food, service, and staff are amazing!

Maybe green onions were on clearance that day. I have had their ramen a few years back and liked it. What happened? To top it all, the lady cashier/order taker wasn't in a good mood that day. The dining experience starts at the greeting station and if the front service folks do not seem to want to be at work, everything starts going downhill. Will not risk a return visit.

The dishes were on the pricier side as well. Overall the service was good and they were attentive with checking in on us and refilling the water. The only surprising thing about the place was that there was an additional 3% fee on credit card transactions which they apparently indicate on their menu (which I missed), and the waiter didn't mention either, so I was taken back when I saw it on the bill. While I understand they're trying to offset their costs, it is pretty rare these days and I wish the waiter gave us a heads up. Overall, the view was great and the food was decent.
