I was craving a good clam chowder. I wanted to try Morro Grill. From their reviews, many said that their chowder was really good. I ordered the seafood chowder, loaded! It comes with two pieces of Texas toast. Nicely toasted with a buttery crunch on the outside, yet fluffy anf soft on the inside. Perfect for dipping. Now, about the chowder... The LOADED seafood chowder wasn't really good, it was DELICIOUS!! Our server said it's actually award winning! We will definitely return for their chowder. So flavorful and creamy! Perfect! Our server, Kaitlyn, she was super sweet and also the best. Very thoughtful in thinking of everything. Thank you, Kaitlyn! Morro Grill's reviews looked pretty good so we're looking forward to returning to try their other menu items. Especially their homemade carrot cake that Kaitlin recommended but we were too full. They're located upstairs but they have an elevator if you need it. They have indoor and outdoor seating (right on the water). Our server at the bar, a young woman, was very friendly and attentive. We can be a little Progressive Auto Commercial these days but she rolled with our non-sensical banter. Mostly we were excited about the mid 90's, early 2000's music playlist that included Biggie; Bone, Thugs, & Harmony; Craig Mack; and some classic R&B joints I'm failing to remember right now. All this while we enjoyed two very cold beers - Michelob ultra for the babe and a Big Sur Double IPA on tap at 9.6 ABV for me. All this, paired with the wings, which were outstanding BTW, and it made for a great stop. Other things to know. -Order of 12 wings can be split into two flavors (choice of buffalo, bbq, or mild). We went with buffalo and bbq extra crispy. -The buffalo have an added pepper seasoning that we loved -Bathrooms are downstairs (there's also an elevator) -2 of the 3 TV's at the bar were not working (biggest critique) -There is outside seating with view of the rock and a beautiful sunset if you time it right (we did, but it was a bit hazy due to the fog or overcast or whatever you call it) -Also, we didn't try any other food so we can't vouch for much else but everything people had looked good and we didn't hear any complaints. Truthfully I want to give a 3, however our server was great so I'm giving a 4. I believe his name is Miguel. Throughout our interaction, he remained professional and cheerful - his great attitude saved the experience. We went inside and were able to get seated immediately. We ordered the calamari, flaming hot chicken sandwich, and battered mahi mahi tacos. We were later informed that they were out of the flaming hot chicken. Bummer since that's what we came in for, but not the end of the world. We switched it for the grilled mahi mahi tacos. Then we were informed again that they just ran out of calamari, so we swapped that for popper bites based on our server's recommendation. The kitchen was backed up but our server communicated that with us and made sure our waters were full. The popper bites are really addictive. Some were a little cold inside but I didn't mind. The grilled mahi mahi tacos were alright - the fish itself was good but the rest of the taco was missing something, I took a bite of the battered mahi mahi tacos and got a shrimp shell. I thought that was weird, then took another 2 bites and same thing- shrimp shells. I was given battered shrimp tacos. Normally I would've let it go and just ate the shrimp tacos, but I couldn't because they all had shells on them. It's really lucky that I'm not someone with a shellfish allergy. I let our server know and he apologized, offered to take the battered tacos off, and replace with something else. I got another set of poppers instead since I knew they were good. This is one of the only places around staying open past 9pm which is smart since the place was packed to the brim! After a 7 hour drive (usually takes 4) we found this place and stopped in before continuing to our hotel. It's upstairs but they have an elevator left of the stairs. The bathrooms are downstairs by the elevator. Men's room was covered in blood so no effing clue what happened there! Check in at the register and you'll get seated inside or outside with full service. I ordered a Cali Squeeze beer and wife had a cocktail. Both great after the long drive. We started with deep fried pepperjack cheese which is so much better than mozzarella. More places need to serve this! I went with the smoked salmon BLT which was unique. Had a big filet of skin on salmon which was excellent on its own. Add the thick bacon and dill mayo and it really made for a great sandwich. Wife had pulled pork sandwich which tasted like burnt ends. Was excellent. Might have been the fact we were forced to evacuate our home and get stuck in holiday traffic but this was the perfect ending to a chaotic stressful day. Located on the second floor in the Morro Landing building at the north end of the Embarcadero, Morro Grill offers delicious drinks, food and views. Since Morro Grill is located on the second floor, for patrons who cannot or prefer not to use the stairs, an elevator is available at the front entryway. There is a combination of seating - indoors at the bar or at individual tables, or on their outdoor patio for dining al fresco, with dog-friendly options. There are three TV monitors above the bar area, as well as two monitors on the opposite wall, all with different programming. Visiting my sister and time got away from us so decided to order through DoorDash for a food delivery. My sister stated that Morro Grill was a good place so we took a look at the menu and both ordered one of their bowls and a side of tater tots. Good size portion and we each enjoyed what we had ordered but have to say that the tater tots kind of stole the show. I ordered them extra crispy and recommend them that way they were so good we were craving them again a couple of days later. Had a great experience at Morro Grill this past weekend. It's a fun atmosphere inside, but if outside seating is available then even better! You will get an excellent view of the harbor and Morro Rock. I was seated at the bar with a friend, and our bartender was kind and attentive. She even switched the channels on the tv for us so we could watch some preseason football. I got the Seafood Chowder in the Garlic Bread Bowl. It was honestly out of this world. The Bread Bowl was perfectly crisped, and the Chowder itself was phenomenal. They make it with Clam and Crab and top it off with Grilled Shrimp and Chives. Our Server for this experience (Kate) presented us with menus promptly. Kate was fabulous...her service "spot-on", professional and very personable as well (thank-you Kate). Our order consisted of Drinks : A Lemon Drop (4/5 - the question here was if the cocktail actually contained alcohol. We were assured it did, but the drink was replaced non-the-less. The replacement tasted the same ‍..."our bad", but Kate didn't charge us for either!). A Sandy Beach (5/5 - ya...this cocktail is outstanding!) and a Big Sur IPA (5/5). Our ordered Mains: Mushroom Swiss w/ Bacon 2X - one w/ Beer Battered Fries, the other w/a Side Caesar Salad - (5/5 - a definite "go-to burger " cause it's sooo darn good) Bay Basket (Mahi Mahi w/double Coleslaw) - (5/5 delicious and enough to take home for another meal) Grilled Jalapeno Burger (w/egg and Bacon) - (5/5 - always a winner). Good spot on the water. Came here for lunch with the family. Started with the MB Passion, which was sweet and light on the booze, so don't recommend their cocktails. For lunch, I got the seafood chowder and bay basket with coconut shrimp. Seafood chowder was flavorful, a tad salty, but flavorful. Coconut shrimp was huge and crispy. Brother in law got the Tri tip sandwich, which was a tad dry, but he got a side of bbq sauce, and that did the trick. Service was efficient, and spot was nice being on the water. The first time was a big hit. We looked up where to get the best Bloody Mary and this place popped up. Well, that visit it didn't disappoint with the BM. We got seated on the patio looking out to the marina and Morro rock. There was the right amount of hi top chairs for our group. Also it was quite busy during the long weekend and the weather was amazing. So it was perfect outside. Of course the Bloody Mary was in order again. We also found out that it was happy hour which was great. The BM was normal price but they did have some small bites offered which we had as well as a couple of cocktails. Blood Mary was accompanied by olives, pickle onions, peppercini, celery and a slice of bacon. They know what they're doing. We also ordered one of the cocktails but it was just whatever's. Nothing to rave about. As we were having dinner later, an order of the jalapeño popper bites to share. Quite tasty I must say and served with ranch dipping sauce. When it was time to cash out, we had him split the bill for us. But noticed that the pooper bites was rang up the full price instead of happy hour. It was a big difference hence we mentioned it to him. Well, he said he'll cancel it and re ring it up. When the bill came, it was slightly confusing and the popper bites was still more than happy hour price. Also if you're splitting the check in twos, why was one bill way more than the other. Not by a small amount but a good potion. It was odd but whatever. Bloody Mary was good which was the reason of this visit. Patio was quite nice with the view. First visit though we have walked past this place on the way to Morro Rock maybe 50 times. So happy we stopped this time. We weren't too hungry so we just split two appetizers. I have been here three times before, ordered a cheeseburger & fries once and I can't recall what the other time. Had to park quite a bit away from the restaurant due to handicapped spots being taken, There is an elevator which I have used on previous visits, but it wasn't working properly going up this time (going down was fine). First time here I dined outside, it was sunny, windy, and the birds begged mercilously!! Second time and this time I sat inside at the high table by the window. The chairs have a nice leg rest. View of Rock is great, although you have to look past the folks dining outside. There are sports playing on all the TVs and it is a bit loud inside, but at least you don't get sunburned, blown away, or attacked by the birds!! They have the napklins and some condiments at the table, which is actually nice not to have to ask for more napkins!! I ordered some chicken strips with beer-battered fries (worth the extra cost), a bottomless soda, and a romaine salad. The salad was sort of a chopped style and was hard to eat but at least it was crunchy lettuce. I needed additional blue cheese dressing. The chicken was too spicy and tasted like fish, I would bet they use the same fryer for their fish and chicken. I also don't prefer breaded chicken strips, battered would have been better. The Fries were fantastic, as usual. Definitely order the beer-battered fries, you won't be disappointed. The refills on the soda were very slow and they didn't add more ice to replace that which had melted. I will probably come here again and would have the cheeseburger and beer-battered fries. We love this place! Their food is delish and there's something for everyone on the menu. The kids menu is extensive which is great for picky kids and my son who has an egg allergy. They're also always very accommodating. We've eaten inside and outside and love both spaces. It's always a spot we visit when in Morro Bay! I also can't say enough about the customer service! Stopped by this spot for a few hours and ended up finding such a gem. I was looking for something different (not seafood), and this rooftop grill with a view of Morro Rock did not disappoint. Quick heads up--if you sit outside, watch out for the aggressive seagulls... and yes, there are signs they're always watching. They offer happy hour Monday-Friday starting at 3 PM. We ordered the smoky pulled pork nachos--not really my favorite since I was craving something else, but if you're into nachos, you'll probably enjoy them. My friend got the turkey sandwich, and that was actually really, really good. I went with the chicken Greek bowl and it was EVERYTHING I hoped for and more--super flavorful and refreshing. They also have other parties option. The portions are huge, so sharing plates is definitely a good idea. Overall, a must-stop if you're in the area. I was craving fish and chips and hoping to sit outside by the water, so we chose this spot specifically for its waterfront seating. Unfortunately, the plan fell through--the outdoor area, though spacious, wasn't clean, and seagulls had taken over. It was disappointing because the view was beautiful. The staff mentioned the birds can get pretty aggressive, so we ended up dining indoors, which wasn't my preference. The indoor space has more of a bar vibe, with high-top tables throughout. I ordered the clam chowder, which was very good and probably would have been enough on its own. The fish and chips included both fish and shrimp; the shrimp were great, but the fish was quite bland. My travel companion has a gluten allergy and found the menu fairly limited, though our server was very kind and did his best to accommodate him. Worst service experience I've had. My family and I were ignored for nearly 40 minutes, even though there were three available tables. We checked in at 7:12 p.m. on 07/11/2026 (according to the app), and it showed that no one was ahead of us. By 7:50 p.m., we still had not been seated. My brother finally went to the front to ask why we hadn't been called. The employee at the register couldn't provide a clear explanation and simply handed him water cups. At that point, we decided to leave after we realized it was very unprofessional. We won't be spending our money at a place where we didn't feel welcome. No one apologized for the delay or acknowledged the situation. I even tried calling after we left, but my call was placed on hold. We ended up going to Taqueria El Guero, great service and food. The food was excellent, you could tell they care to make an impression. The clam and crab chowder served in a garlic bread bowl was an experience unlike anything I've ever had. Between me and my table, there was no evidence of my food when it was all said and done, the garlic bread bowl stood out and added a salty buttery-ness to the chowder. I wouldn't get the chowder without it being "loaded" by the way, all of that just added to the flavor! Everyone else loved their choices, too. The fries are particularly satisfying with their crisp tenderness. The appetizer of fries that has cheese and jalapeño on it was so tasty! Went for Happy Hour. Wooden Sign at the bar listed all the happy hour specials. When the bill came, only one beer was shown as happy hour pricing. Second beer, both glasses of wine and the calamari appetizer were both at non-happy our prices. The Bartender says sign is old and the calamari and wine are no longer on happy hour . Still wasn't going to discount until we pressed further. Once we pointed it out, the wooden sign was taken down. It was only a couple bucks, but I see this as bait and switch. Don't not advertise happy hour and not give the happy hour prices advertised. BTW, paper tents on the bar state wine by the glass is on happy hour. Let's see if they remove those too. Bad policies, bad attitudes, bad food. We ordered two overpriced sandwiches to go, $45 with tax and a small tip. 15 minute wait, totally fine. But by the time we picked up, we were seeking a shady place to eat, because it was hot and sunny with no available public seating in the shade. Because I noticed that they were empty tables inside the restaurant, I asked if we could eat there, inside. I was curtly told, no, you have to sit outside on the patio. Problem is, there were no available tables for our party of four in the shade on the patio, with the only shaded tables being for two. I asked the staff, why can't I eat inside at an empty table, when I've already paid $45 for two sandwiches? They initially said well it's for sit-down customers. I asked what difference it made, as I was a paying customer too. They just stared at me blankly, except for one smart ass server, who said, have a nice day!, loudly and sarcastically, clearly meaning "GTFO." Thus exiled to the scorching sunshine out on the patio, we ate our overpriced sandwiches, and they weren't even good. The bacon on my club sandwich, for example which I had asked to be cooked crispy, was nearly raw. Our daughter's grilled chicken sandwich, which was not listed on the menu as being spicy, was quite spicy, like Nashville chicken. She is too young to be able to tolerate that, and it essentially went to waste. We would've complained, but, in light of the poor attitude that we had already encountered, we decided not to bother.
