The service is simple ordering from the fish market. The ambiance is nice for a fish market with outside seating overlooking the docks and live music often being played. The food was excellent with our favorites being the fresh oysters; these were just as good as Grassy Bar Oyster Company. The clam chowder was easily the next best dish with plenty of clams each with tons of flavor and no grit. The rockfish & chips were good but we prefer the crispier beer-battered versions more. We ordered clam chowder in a bread bowl, one smoked scallop taco, and calamari. The clam chowder wasn't the best I've ever had (a little too celery-forward), but it was piping hot and still delicious. My husband enjoyed his scallop taco, and the fried calamari was solid (as long as it comes with lemon and tartar sauce, I'm happy). The best part is the beautiful view of Morro Rock! Two part review: one order for here and one to go. For sit-down, I ordered one grilled halibut taco and 3 raw oysters. Staff were amazing and efficient. They gave me 4 oysters. Not sure if they misheard and charged for 4 or because one was super small (they didn't provide a receipt so I have no idea). I ate all 4 and didn't complain. I wish they would serve the oysters on a flatter bed so the liquor doesn't drain. That's the best part! The cocktail sauce is obviously made in-house and it's top notch. The best I have ever had. You can see the horseradish swimming in it and I HATE horseradish that overpowers the sauce. This was not the case. The balance was perfect. Halibut taco: unfortunately was dry. Tartar sauce was provided but I generally do not like tartar. Tried it anyway and omg. Clearly house-made and complimented the taco perfectly without all that commercial flavored nonsense. It saved the dry taco. And lots of cabbage on top (my fave). I came back about 4 hours later to pick up something to go. I ordered a large clam chowder and a half order of garlic bread. First: if you're not eating the garlic bread right away, just don't. The flavor is there, but you know what happens to bread when it sweats in a foam clamshell for an hour. I bet it would have been amazing fresh. The chowder: my god. Everyone has their idea of the perfect clam chowder, but this is really up there. Better than Splash Cafe. Smooth, creamy base. No giant chunks of potato. NO SAND. Finely diced celery, carrot, and onion. The clams were abundant and perfect. No chewiness at all. This is our favorite lunch place! You order inside and pick up your food when called. We're addicted to their Grilled Scallops skewers! They never disappoint. There's always great live music to listen to with a beautiful view of the rock! You need to be watchful of the seagulls - as anywhere on the Embarcadero. One managed to grab the top of my husband's sandwich when he stepped away from the table for a napkin! Live music, order at the counter and find seating. It's a busy spot so keep on eye out for people finishing up, sadly not everyone respects the first come first get the next available seat. Since there was only 2 of us it was easier to find seating, whereas a large party had some challenges. Liked that the clam chowder didn't have bacon. It was creamy and tasty. Last time we were in Morro Bay, my cousin and I had dined at Tognazzini's Dockside, and had a great experience, which you can read about here: http://tinyurl.com/mtsjfh42 This time, we decided to try Dockside Too, and see how it compared to its older sibling. Having expected Dockside Too to be in a different neighborhood, we were surprised to find that it was actually just next door. Dockside Too is literally right behind the original Tognazzini's, between it and the bay. So, technically, Dockside Too is actually more "dockside" than the original, with even better views of Morro Rock and the jetty. As compared to the original Tognazzini's, the Dockside Too menu is far more focused on fish. According to the restaurant website, the full name is actually Dockside Too Fish Market. While the original Tognazzini's menu is more reminiscent of full service fine dining, Dockside Too is more like a fish & chips fast food joint. We ordered our food at the counter inside the restaurant, paid, and then went outside to save a table. We were in luck, because, just as we walked outside, the best table was vacated, and no one else was waiting for it. My cousin and I sat ourselves on either side of the table, right next to the water, while my cousin's local friend (who came down to eat with us) sat facing the bay. All of us ordered fish and chips. My cousin and I split the five piece for $21, while her friend ordered the $16 three piece. There was a halibut option for $25 each, but we figured the regular fresh fish from the bay would be delicious enough. Man, I wished we had ordered the halibut. This fish was overcooked to the point of being a little chewy, was not appetizing, and was difficult to enjoy without copious amounts of lemon juice. Based on the location alone, I would have given this restaurant five stars, but, unfortunately, the fish was not that great. I was only able to eat about one and a half pieces of fish before telling my cousin to polish off the rest. I filled up mostly on French fries (which were delicious) and Mexican Coke. While we were eating, a seagull landed on the fence next to us to beg. My view was: chewy fish, chips, seagull, bay, jetty. On top of that, a live band was playing. We could not have asked for better ambiance. Overall, I loved everything about Dockside Too EXCEPT the fried fish. Next time I'm in this bay area, I might come back anyway, just to see if the halibut is worth the extra $9 per serving. (I have a feeling that it might be.) read more

Dockside Too doesn't need my review, so I'll keep it short. The calamari and chips was exactly as expected: a good portion of squiddies (mostly tube sections with a couple of tentacles thrown in) and a very large mound of fries. So good. The tacos, however, were the star of the show, especially the smoked scallops tacos. Next time I'm there, I'm ordering three. Or four. One more thing: since it's on a pier, you may have to defend your food from marauding gulls, but the view could hardly be better. read more

My wife and I came in a little late ish.., (8 or so). Super friendly greeting and seated immediately (thank you "Cece"). Several was right behind offering specials ant answering questions. Ordered a bottle of house cab, (which was fabulous) and decided we'd split the New York steak. We each got salads, and he was very accommodating to our request for extra croutons. The steak came out before we finished our salads, but we were mostly done. We got it with the scallop potatoes (and sautéed squash) and oh my, my, they were most excellent. Prices were reasonable. We ordered two three piece fish and chips to go. The fries were like steamed wet noodles. Why can't the fries be boxed separately like Giuseppe's around the corner does so they stay crisp? We came here for an early dinner (a little bit after 5PM), and we found a scene of good music, kids dancing, and a gorgeous view of Morro Bay. Albeit, the live band was loud (definitely passed 70 decibels), but their performance paired well with Friday night. With respect to food, I really enjoyed their clam chowder, but I was a little disappointed with the fried fish (however, it was fresh. See photo below). Nevertheless, I enjoyed eating at Tognazzini's Dockside Too. We went to the location that is outside and adjacent to the water. If you are cold, there is a second location that is indoors (like 15 seconds away by foot). Although there was a long line, we received our foo promptly after placing our order (it took less than 15 minutes despite the number of people that were there). I love how dog friendly the community is in morro bay. We were able to bring our dog to enjoy our meal with us and she got some biscuits offered by them which was so nice. For food, we got the tacos (halibut and salmon) and my partner preferred the halibut over the salmon. I got the captain marks combo (fried scallops, oysters, calamari, shrimp, and fish) the size portion was good but the flavor wasn't too strong. I wish there was a bit more seasoning in the fish but they do have salt and pepper on the side. And the clam chowder was okay, a bit underwhelming in my opinion as far as flavor. If you have a hankering for a fresh fish with a view. This is the only place to go. You pick out your fish in the display case and they cook it for you anyway you want for only five dollars extra. We chose White Sea bass with garlic bread and crispy French fries tails. Shrimp cocktail that was overflowing and the sauce was more like pico de gallo than cocktail sauce. Raw Morro bay oysters, fresh and delectable. A bottle oh JDusi Pinot Grigio helped to rock this meal. The seagulls preached, the band rocked 1970 memories, the seals swam as we watched the sun set behind the rock. If you're gonna eat fish, you should do it beside the water. I go here every time I pass through Morro Bay, which is pretty often. They have a pier-like wood patio with dog leash connections. It's right in front of the big rock and the food is excellent. There are about eight different kinds of fish tacos and the one called "fusion" is the taco of the gods. Excellent chowder and other menu items as well. Haven't had anything bad here. read more

I came back again to see if the claim chowder was back to the standard that I've come to love and it sure delivered. Thick and hearty clam chowder from my favorite place. This time it did not disappoint so I'm happy but I was cautious before placing my order because the past few times it was horrible. My family has been camping at Morro Bay every summer for many years and the one place we have to go every time is Tognazzini's Too. We went to the Dockside Too because it was more low key and outdoor. The other Dockside is more sit restaurant style, the Dockside Too is more of a fish market style. We got family style fish n chips, few clam chowders, and a pitcher of blood orange beer. Food was satisfying! The clam chowders stole the show. It was so delicious with big chunks of clams. They did not skim on them. The fish n chips were alright. They are on the smaller cut size, hence a bit drier. I like the big fish style where they fried while big pieces and it was so juice. Not this one, but it was not bad. Fries were small cuts, again, I prefer the big cut size fries. The blood orange beer was so good, nicely paired with our food. Service was awesome.
