And somehow, the first bite, the middle bite, and the last bite are all equally good -- most sandwiches have a sweet spot somewhere in the middle where everything lines up, but Togo's figured out how to hold that all the way through. The bread is the other standout. It's not a hard French roll, but it's got substance and chew to it -- you know you're eating actual bread, not the soft, flavorless balloon bread that ruins most subs. I always order mine without mayonnaise, and honestly, most sandwich places get that wrong about half the time -- it's practically a coin flip. Not at Togo's. Every single visit, they've gotten it exactly right. No mess-ups, no forgetting the customization. When I'm craving a sub now, this is the only one I think about. My only real complaint: there aren't enough Togo's locations around here, and no drive-through, which would make it even easier to grab this sandwich more often. read more

I've never been here before but was craving a sandwich and soup today so decided to try it out. Easy to find, ample parking. Really friendly and helpful staff! Took time to explain their menu and fan favorites, and I was in and out swiftly, even during Friday lunch hour. The sandwich was decent. Nothing to write home about but just a reliable good sub. I had the regular size California turkey club. I also got a cup of the broccoli cheese soup which was pretty good also. I am not sure if pastrami cheese sandwich #55 is a new addition, I tried it and it was pretty good. This was quite a good amount of shaved pastrami, some mushroom slices and melted slice cheese that is a little spicy. I highly recommend this sandwich. It is $12.95. My usual sandwich is pastrami reuben and it costs $11.75. The price has went up about $1 since last year. I would probably still prefer pastrami reuben sandwich. read more

Haven't been here for a while but What happened to the customer service that use to be great here. They use to greet you, and take your order and if the shop was empty others would help out with your order. Now I get snubbed. Went in and there were two customers and three workers. My GB ordered a sandwich then the other two customers left. That left me with two workers to help me. But no! The girl said the work station is over there. No hello, welcome in or anything. Not to mention no one asked if I wanted to order anything! I paid for the kids sandwich and left. I have been coming here off and on for over 20 years. The #9 has always been my choice, the signature Pastrami. In "the old days" they used to just pile on the meat. It was thick, and the full length of the bun, so much that you could barely get your mouth around it. I'm sure it was at least 6 ounces of meat. Now, it feels like they use maybe 3 ounces of meat, if that. They stuff it into part of the bun but most of the bun has no meat, just bread and lettuce. And it costs more than it used to of course. We recently went back and thought that the hot pastami sandwiches were excellent. They offer a lot of different sandwich varieties and the service was great! I've found most chains have similar sandwich choices so it boils down to two things in my opinion: execution and the meats. If you like your sandwiches juicy and a bit sloppy with an ample amount of meat (w/o paying for double meat), Togos is your shop. I needed 3 napkins to clean off my hands! Hands down one of the best pastrami sandwiches I've had and I've been to NYC. I used to eat a large #9 Hot Pastrami every day. Now that the BBQ Beef has returned (I cried literal tears of joy), it has taken its place. The staff are so friendly and let me bring my service animal in (my pit bull 'killer'). I love getting face licks from my dog, but I have a sneaking suspicion that it's because of my aversion to napkins and napkin use. Either way, it all works out in the end. As I bite into the soaking wet mesquite treat, I don't have to worry about the mess. Killer jumps up and licks my face clean after every bite! The best #9 hot pastrami sandwich around. Every bite took me back to living in San Jose, California when my uncle and cousin took me as a child for lunch. Yes, it is a little spendy but worth it. The bread was soft and chewy but almost too chewy over powering the thin slices of tender pastrami. You will know what I am talking about when you bite into it. Also, the new pastrami cheese steak was not bad as well. I had to try it even though I got the #9 so I ordered the mini with the cheddar broccoli soup. Both ended up being good and tasty! Today was my first experience with this restaurant. There was a reasonable wait to order. The place appeared clean, the employees were present - not unfriendly, but not friendly either. I ordered the California Club on Sourdough, a cup of cheddar broccoli soup, and a bottled ice tea. $25. Since I couldn't really chew the bread, I dumped the entire sandwich ingredients in a bowl and attempted to eat it that way. I really wanted to like it. I put all but 2 bites of the soup in the garbage and pretty much the entire sandwich along with it. The soup was beyond disgusting and the meat/vegies from the sandwich were flavorless. My girlfriend and I frequent this joint only because it's close. I prefer Subway :) Any who, I have never had a bad experience until now. I ordered the hot pastrami with the normal fixings (Togo's Style), lite mustard and swiss cheese. What I got was a POS sandwich - no lettuce, no pepperoncinis....nadda, just meat and cheese. Totally not worth the almost $12 for a sandwich and its not even a foot long. Making a sandwich is not tough. If you can't make a simple sandwich or for that matter read what was ordered, then you might as well pump gas or go back to school. read more

So I was feeling nostalgic and hoping to bring back some of those old feelings I had from many many years ago while eating Togo's sandwiches. Full disclosure: I worked at Togo's when I was 16/17 yrs old. I was the asst. manager when I lived in Sacramento while I was in high school. Long story short, I was hoping things hadn't changed much. Well...todays bread did not seem to be todays bread or maybe even yesterday's. I ordered a classic Pastrami on white with mustard, light Mayo and pickles. The bread seemed as if it had been microwaved!! It was this weird hard,crunchy, chewy and hard to tear apart consistency because it seemed like it was nuked. The meat was packed in nicely and tasted like a classic pastrami sandwich. My husband ordered the cheesesteak which was not on the menu way back when I worked there so glad to try something new. His bread was also weird and the flavors were a bit underwhelming. For $30 we were a bit disappointed. Best sandwich chain EVER. Let me start off by saying I grew up in downtown San Jose right by SJSU and the first Togo's. I then moved to the Santa Teresa area and had another Togo's in the nearest shopping center. After that, I was forced to move to Henderson, NV, and watch the Togo's commercials on TV when there wasn't a single Togo's within a few hours of driving. HORRIBLE! My aunt and uncle love it so much that they would make us bring a bunch of Togo's sandwiches on ice either on our plane or on the 10+ hour drive. I discovered this Togo's location because that very same aunt, along with my mother, mentioned Togo's shortly before visiting me. We went here and ordered extra sandwiches to snack on for the next day or so. The #9 is BETTER THAN I REMEMBER! The staff is friendly and the owner is super cool. His kids are graduating from an awesome college in the Bay Area, where my aunt went, and it felt like I was back at my original Togo's getting my favorite sandwich.
