Its been yaers since Ive been to a Togo's sandwich shop. Service was good with employees being friendly and welcoming. They were really working hard to get the luch crowd serves and on their way. Ordered a turkey sub with all the fixings and exluded the oild snf speeds. Vegitables were fresh and crisp and the bread was freash and soft. Added a drink and jalapeno chips to my meal to make it complete. Enjoyed my luch and then I was on my way. Ther is plenty of seating inside and some seating outside too. The nice thing about Togo's is it's quite consistent and the #9 (hot pastrami), however unhealthy it may be for the heart conscious, is just so delicious to eat. Ever since I started coming here 30+ yrs ago, they tare the scale with your bread and other stuff, and then weigh the proper portion of pastrami. You have to admire the standards. No cases of "I got shortchanged on the pastrami portion". And they have a ringer/register person who gets yelled at and takes your payment. Since I don't come here often (Togo's in general), it brought back memories. This is a convenient location if you have courthouse stuff - walking distance, and though it's gotten more expensive like everything else, you do save some money on the meal deal, so that's good. Togo's Sandwiches has been here a long time. It's conveniently located close to the Court House - definitely within walking distance (only a block away). The restaurant is spacious and modern. Inside and outside dining available. My sandwich maker was friendly and nice! Pastrami Reuben: swiss, sauerkraut, thousand island dressing (4/5). All my favorite things in a sandwich. Though, my only gripe was that the white bread I chose didn't seem to have that softness/freshness, I expected. It was chewy like when you microwave bread for 20 seconds and don't eat it right away - kinda chewiness. Congrats on being around since 1971. read more

I remember going to the very first Togos near San Jose State University back in the late 70s. Now it is just crap. I spent $50 for two sandwiches, a salad and soup. Except for the salad, everything was way too salty and low quality. The friggen beef sand which was just some crappy meat spread over some soggy bread. It was not a sandwich. Even the ham sandwich seemed like salt was added. This is not the Togos I ate during my college years. It's just horrible crap. Up in the Sub Originally founded in 1964 by two Northern Michigan University students in Marquette,MI. The name is melding of the two founders' names "TO" from Tom Nuemann & "GO" from Gordon Reed, which kinda worked out considering that the OG shop only featured "to-go" orders due to the lack of seating. Reed eventually moved here to San José in 1968 and started the first West Coast location of TOGO's by SJSU (now the home of California Wet Burrito) and they instantly became the gold standard in sandwiches with their fresh locally made bread and heaping piles of meats and cheese. The brand was eventually sold to Dunkin Brands in the mid-90s and sported as many as 350 locations nationwide by 2001. I was a big fan of TOGO's growing up but when the corporate machine took over, the quality of the bread changed, as well as the drastic reduction in toppings by weighing out the ingredients instead of the heaping handfuls we had become accustomed to. Suffice it to say I don't visit TOGO's much anymore but was kinda forced to go here while performing jury duty nearby. The Good: *Overall my Pastrami sandwich was better than the last time I visited, which was over 5+ years ago. The meat had good flavor, the bread was very not bad and the toppings were tasty. *Service was very fast and very friendly, and they're fully staffed for the lunch rush that hits them daily when the courts release the hounds. *Indoor and shaded outdoor seating available *Soda machine with the thousands of flavor combos, as well as unsweetened iced tea. I chose the latter as I'm attempting to reduce my soda consumption. The Meh: *Chip selection was pretty standard stuff like Sun Chips and Cheetos. I didn't see any good Kettle-cooked options, which is my preferred chip these days. The Ugly: *Prices are borderline obscene, as a regular sandwich combo w/ chips & a drink cost me almost $25!? I almost couldn't believe my eyes. TLDR: Not a bad option if you're looking for something fast to eat between court sessions but I'd student bringing cash and hit up the other nearby sandwich EATERY that makes fresh SOURDOUGH and costs half as much. read more

Stopped here in mid-afternoon to try the "new" bbq beef sandwich. I have been eating at Togo's since the 80's. I have ordered the bbq beef for decades even though it wasn't on the menu. So I was interested to see why they are advertising it so much now. Upon arriving there was police action in the parking lot. Two Sherriff Officers pulled over a car and had all the doors and trunk open. Nothing to see here! Upon entering there were two employees behind the counter. They seemed more interested in talking to a guy hanging out by the side counter. My order was finally taken. I noticed when the employee went to heat up my meat, he did it while the meat was on the bread. So the bread was in there getting heated up too. Sure enough, when I eat the sandwich, the bread was tough and chewy. Like it was microwaved too long. Sandwich was not good! This is not better than the bbq beef sandwich I have been eating for over 30 years from Togo's. I don't understand all the advertising dollars they are spending on it. read more

What I don't want to do is say all Togo locations are crap, because they are not. I will however say this location is definitely at the bottom of the barrel with their service as well as the quality of their food. I received a Chinese chicken salad that was a stale lettuce bowl with three cubes of chicken. My bbq sandwich, half size, literally had three strips of meat that was clearly days old. This is the better Togos that I have been at. I had to serve jury duty selection so I needed a quick and filling place to go. It was a walk away, but the weather was cool. Fortunately, I arrived just before the rush. There is a lot of seating and it was very clean. My sandwich maker was attentive and quick. Holy crap, have prices gone up. I haven't been to a Togo's in about two years, but a large number #8 is now $10.75? Really? I remember when a large #8 was $5.95 and two years ago it was still under $8 bucks. What the hell happened? With that being said, they do make a pretty good sandwich. Togo's is a huge chain of sandwich places and I've always preferred them over Subway. There is a bit more quality, but it just takes a little time to get your sandwich. At the end of the day, I'm more considered for the taste of my sandwich than anything else. Less than 1 star. The man who was in there, was very rude. He was rude to the new person who was working in there. He seemed u grateful to even have a customer in his business. He was very angry that I asked to purchase a drink with my pick up order, and was very demanding that I pay him on the other side of the business. He was yelling at the new employee about how I can't pay where she was at. The food was not warm or hot like advertised, even though I was there to pick up food early. Went into the newly refurbished store on Thursday, long story short..... Ordered an Egg Salad & Cheese....not too hard right? 1st attempt....puts TUNA on the roll.....I question it, she says, oh yeah, scrapes it off into the container & starts laying on the egg.... New bread....with egg, all good now.....till we got to the cheese, I inquire as to what they have, and settle in CHEDDAR....she proceeds to layer Pepper-jack on....... I work about 5 minutes away from here & I always call in before I come and pick it up. They all know me when I go in there, not really by name yet but they know me when I walk in. I'm always greeted with a smile and the sandwiches/salad that I always order comes out to perfection. Three Stars for the Aging Facilities. Historically (and today), I've not had problems with unruly service or dilapidated online orders for pickup. But the Restrooms... Hmmm... I haven't been to TOGO'S in a while and this location in particular. Having ordered my $5 Daily Deal, I abandon my co-worker to visit the facilities festivities. As I walk in, it's all dark so I turn the timer (WTH?) so at least I can see but suddenly I hear someone blurt out, "Jesus... Thank you." I'm pretty sure that he wasn't necessarily NOT thanking Jesus but I was tempted to reply, "Jesus says,'You're welcome...'" I noted the nifty motion sensor towel rack and motion sensor soap dispenser but what is up with the "poor man's electricity saving lightswitch"???!? SERIOUSLY? Anyway, I felt sorry for the guy who literally got caught with his pants down because the timer ran out or because somebody thot the Environment was more important than someone needing light to see enough to wipe!!! I mean, I'm not complaining about it yet -- except maybe on behalf of the guy ostensibly thanking Jesus. Who knows -- maybe I'll be the one thanking Jesus next... =========== In general, TOGO'S cost more and their over-the-top indulgence on 9" sandwiches means slumming at S****Y if you want a foot long "footlong". I've been to this TOGO's a few times and have had very different experiences. The first few times I came here were during their later business hours, and I have found the closing employees usually pretty quiet and one time down right rude, the place always empty. I came in about 15 minutes before closing and was scurried out the door as they were sweeping the dining room. Guess that wasn't enough time to make a sandwich. Today however I came during the lunch rush and was pleasantly surprised at how quickly my order was taken care of and how friendly my sandwich artist was. I wish I got his name, because not only was he friendly but my sandwich was delicious! I come here because it is walking distance from my home and I prefer TOGO's plumper sandwiches to the also-nearby Subway's sandwiches. TOGO's just makes em better! read more

The service is fast and amazing. I haven't had a sandwich that I've disliked so far! I especially like anything w/ a cranberry sauce, and their daily deal is just enticing. However, it does get really packed during lunch time, though the line moves fast due to their impeccably swift staff. I went there recently when it was pretty empty. The gentleman making our sandwich seemed new and he was sweating a lot. A lady was instructing him on how to make the sandwich and we saw on MULTIPLE occasions beads of sweat fall into our sandwich, and neither the lady nor the gentleman said anything. On top of that the guy kept wiping his sweat on his shirt. I understand it might have been a hot day but that's just unacceptable to serve a sandwich to someone like that.
