The parking out front fills up quickly but there is also parking along the perimeter of the plaza. Breakfast burrito with mushroom- Delicious flavors and textures throughout the burrito! The soft scrambled eggs were creamy, soft and delicate. The crusted potatoes added a touch of texture and some starch to the meal. Mango matcha - By the color alone I had low expectations of the matcha. It turned out to be pretty decent actually. The drink itself was pretty average but the fresh mango was sweet and added a unique flavor to the drink. Service was nice and friendly. The food and drinks came out in about 10 minutes. I stopped into Mad Yolks on a Friday afternoon and found it mostly empty. The interior had a casual vibe, with lots of natural light, some indoor seating, and funky egg-themed decor. I ordered the Mad Chick and an iced Lilikoi Green Tea. Staff members were friendly and service was pretty fast! The Lilikoi Green Tea was delicious. The crunchy passionfuit seeds were awesome and the sweetness level wasn't overwhelming. I liked the Mad Chick, but can't say it was my favorite fried chicken sandwich of all time. I had a particularly difficult experience eating at the Meridian restaurant around 8:45 am in San Jose. I ordered the breakfast burrito vegetarian style, replacing bacon with mushrooms as suggested on the menu, and ate in the store (not take-out). This is the second time I've eaten here, and the first time inspired me to come back soon after for a second taste because I loved it so much. However, the burrito I received had super hard, unripe avocado and a piece of bacon in it that I chewed for a little before spitting it out to inspect, as I was not used to the taste nor texture. I have been vegetarian since I was twelve (not vegan), so eggs and cheese are fine, but bacon is something I've avoided for a good thirty years now. Rationally, I know these mistakes happen. I try not to be anal about this, as I understand the majority of the world eats meat, but I just wanted to let you know that of the two experiences I had at this location, one was extraordinarily fulfilling (ripe avocados, fluffy eggs and potatoes, no bacon), and the second experience was profoundly disappointing. It was so busy that I would have felt wrong returning the order over an unripe avocado complaint, and it was only in the last bite of my burrito that I found the bacon, which was actually quite unfortunate as it ended up being the last taste left in my mouth, prompting me to go outside and spit whatever residual food was still stuck in there. read more

First time we went I got the madchick- the eggs were soft and fluffy and the chicken was moist and flavorful. The brioche bun is also soft and fluffy, but a little on the sweet side. Second time I tried their version of a breakfast burrito. It's over $14, so I had high expectations. I can't say it wasn't good. Good ratio of egg, bacon, and avocado. Wished there had been more crispy potatoes, but overall it was tasty and the salsa added some flavor (though not heat). My only issue was the tortilla. It was way too soft and literally falling apart where it hadn't been grilled. I had half and I was full! Service is fine, food is a little slow to come out, but nothing that a little patience can't fix. We have only been twice for a couple of reasons. This place gets so cramped and crowded during the weekends, and it's on the higher end for casual take out food. The eggs were plentiful and fluffy and for the shroom one specifically, the mushrooms were tender and abundant as well. However, flavor wise I think both were quite bland and given the price point, $11+ per sandwich, I would've expected it to be a bit more flavorful. It genuinely didn't taste like they seasoned the eggs or anything. The dirty tots were worth the $7.50 though. The curry sauce was savory and went well with the soft and slightly crispy tots. The matcha latte was okay. Nothing that stood out about it that was particularly good nor bad. Service was swift and staff was nice! The shop itself is really clean and had a nice casual ambiance. The mad chick was good, with a big piece of chicken but I was personally hoping for a bit more flavor so it fell slightly short. The Shrooms was also solid especially as a vegetarian option, but it was also pretty messy and difficult to eat as a lot of the insides fell out every time you took a bite. Honestly a little let down with this one. There were some things I liked but some I didn't. For starters the shop was a little dirty and it was barely 9am, trash left on tables and some flies buzzing around. They weren't too busy either. Tater tots were part of their Valentines special but tasted cold and day old. You can see the inconsistency- some looked and tasted extra dried out. Wouldn't recommend. Matcha latte was decent and tasted high quality. Note: there's no sugar in it so if you like it on the sweeter side, ask for sweetener. There's seating inside but it was pretty crowded. 3.5 stars for my first visit to Mad Yolks. My friend recommended we meet for brunch at Mad Yolks on Meridian at Willow. It's located in a strip with a Starbucks. I don't know if it's a super minimalistic vibe on purpose or if they're just new and haven't gotten around to decorating yet, but the space has plain white walls, white tables, and hard chairs. I saw 8 2-tops and 1 4-top in the cramped space. We arrived at 11:00, and the place was packed shortly after. You order, pay, and pick up your food at the counter. They may want to adjust the seating and placement of the menu, as just having one large menu on the wall above the condiment counter by the register makes it very awkward, as people are trying to gain access to the counter, maneuver around the line, and get napkins and such all in one cramped space. The items on the menu were described well, and there was an Asian-adjacent vibe (Spam, Taiwanese Chicken, and Loco Moco influences). I don't know if they were related, but the menu, including serving sandwiches on brioche, were very similar to Egghead Sando. I ordered the Mad Chick and some tater tots. My friend got the BAE. We both appreciated the flat-bottom bags the sandwiches were served in. The food was good, but the logistics and lack of soda (and no ranch for my tots) were disappointing. A nice carbonated Diet Coke would've been great with my lunch. Mad Yolks offers fruity drinks but no fountain or canned beverages I'd give Mad Yolks another try, but I might wait a while to see if they figure out their flow better for a more enjoyable experience. read more

I tried Mad Yolks for the first time in Santa Cruz & loved it, so I was really excited to find out they opened a location in San Jose! My hubby & I went around 12:30 and it was very busy & crowded but we got our food relatively quick. Service was friendly & helpful! Now onto the food... OH MY GOD! The fried chicken sandwich was insanely crispy, crunchy, juicy, and flavorful. One of the best I've had. The breading had a Japanese curry-like flavor which was so unique and tasty. When I heard that Mad Yolks opened a new location in Willow Glen, I went right away to check it out. One major downside is the parking situation. The parking lot is very small, and during busy hours it is almost impossible to find a spot, so be prepared to park farther away. Their sandwiches are huge and very filling. This time we ordered two large sandwiches. I had the BAE sandwich, and the scrambled eggs tasted fresh and flavorful without being overcooked at all. The Mad Chick, which uses Taiwanese style fried chicken. One bite in and it was packed with flavor. The BAE sandwich overall was excellent. Their brioche bread is top notch and has always been my favorite type of bread for breakfast sandwiches. You will definitely feel full after the meal, but not uncomfortably heavy. Overall, aside from the parking challenge, this is a great spot for breakfast sandwich lovers and absolutely worth a visit. read more

The good news is they seem to be doing great business out of this location so the bet on San Jose does seem to be working, which is awesome. The space is small but cute and efficient. I've previously favored the Avo & Tomato sandwich on prior visits but this time I had the Shrooms which was amazing. My daughter had the Classic which she liked as well. Both our sandwiches came with the eggs a little less done than we'd ideally have preferred so next time I'll specifically ask for my eggs to be cooked a little harder. But even as is both of our sandwiches were killer. The staff was super nice and omg their tater tots are exceptional also. My daughter liked her drink too. Great place. It was huge and had lots of scrambled egg, but the eggs were too soft for my taste and there was too much of the bland bun. Overall I felt there was nothing special about it. I prefer the egg sandwiches I make at home. On a more positive note, I also had the Alex's coffee, which is dark chicory iced coffee with vanilla and condensed milk. Ooh, it was good.
