    three tacos on trays

During my summer visits through Old Forge I would pass this funky little restaurant called Toka Bocca. Each pass I would be going on their webpage to checkout their eclectic menu. Their menu is a fun read with unique food options names such as "Everyday I'm Trufflin'", "Bong Bong Shrimp" and "Dazed and Confused Sliders" As you can see these names and the vibe of the restaurant has a THC/cannabis theme. Please don't take this place as a dispensary or stoner hangout. Other than the punny names and chill aesthetic there is NO CBC,THC or cannabis in the actual menu items. My wife and I finally made the stop and we were so happy we did! As soon as we walked in we were welcomed by one of the waitstaff who asked if we would like to sit inside or in their side patio. We chose an inside booth. They also had high top tables and chairs along with normal sized tables throughout the smallish sized restaurant which offered a bit more warmth and intimacy than a bigger restaurant with more table selection. The menu is pretty extensive. Entrées ranger from Tacos, burritos, flatbreads, sliders, pasta, rice bowls along with chicken and tuna dishes. Though much is on the menu, I can assure you that everything is freshly prepared and cooked in house while the taste and presentation was spot on. My wife and I decided to order something completely different than what we do after an exhausting but rewarding Adirondack hike. We decided on tacos! I am a HUGE pork belly fan so I opted for the Notorious P.I.G Taco. The pork belly had some crispness along with its flavorful, tender meat. The cucumber and pineapple added a delicious lightness to each bite. Their Tokabocca sauce did not overpower the taco but was more of a compliment. The highlight was definitely the pork belly! My wife enjoyed her chicken tacos as well. I had a couple bites and the chicken was marinated well and cooked perfect. Their Mexican crème was such a delightful topping along with the fresh pico de gallo. The chicken and toppings were between both between hard taco shell and an outer soft shell. This actually made the taco a bit more easier to eat without it falling apart everywhere! I also recommend ordering one of their appetizers. We ordered the Cat Cow. It was fantastic! Fried cauliflower and Brussel sprouts tossed in their Tokabocca sauce, cotija and green onions. Toka Bocca has now become my number one restaurant in the Old Forge region of the Adirondacks. Their menu is mouthwatering and service was attentive. Toka Bocca is actually a newer restaurant to its sister Toka Bocca in Herkimer, NY. Though I haven't visited the Herkimer location the menus are similar with a slight difference in some extra options in Herkimer. We will definitely be back next spring and throughout the summer when are ADK trips take us to or through Old Forge.

Probably the best food establishment in Okd Forge. Chef Lok knows what he is doing. The Cat Cow is scrumptious- don't miss it!

We were in the mood for lunch and they were only serving breakfast that Sunday. So, we opted for the most lunch-ish thing available that wasn't too heavy. Bagels and cream cheese. They were perfectly toasted and there was plenty of spreadable cream cheese. It made for a perfect light lunch. I don't eat eggs, so it did limit my options. If you do eat eggs, their breakfast dishes with eggs look amazing. Of course, we tried the coffee. It was very good and we loved the mugs. The place is rustic-charming. The service was good. It's a busy place. We loved the regulars who stopped in and didn't even need to say what they wanted. The servers already knew. The service is good but slow. Not sure if that's because they were busy or if they're just not the type to rush things. The bathrooms are clean. There is an up-charge for credit cards. It's hard to resist buying mugs and coffee to take home. The cookies were so hard to resist we bought some to keep us snack-happy on our travels. Definitely a good place to stop.

While I haven't had the opportunity to try the entire menu just yet, I can say confidently the home fries live up to the hype. I understand why they're called home fries because they reminded me of home. It looks like they're doing some renovation on the second floor, I wonder if that'll result in even more seating. If that's the case then it'll take this cafe to the next level.

My order was the French toast with bacon, butter and syrup every time!! I cannot even begin to explain the delicious food but more than that a place where I can eat a comfort meal while watching planes depart and arrive from a beautiful airport. The owner and employees are so attentive, caring and all around just loving people! This is the BEST cafe I have ever reviewed especially if you love airplanes like me!!! This was such an unexpected treat!…read more Walking around Lake Placid, we bumped into a couple who wound up suggesting a couple of restaurants for us to check out. Cavu was at the top of their list! And with their description of planes taking off and landing nearby, we thought it would be the perfect spot to bring our toddler. To access the restaurant, you have to walk into the airport. I've never been in such a tiny airport before! The cafe space overlooks the tarmac, but we were a little bummed that we only saw one plane takeoff while we were eating. We aren't locals and assumed there would be more! But that wasn't an issue. Plus, once my toddler started to get fussy, the staff whipped out a coloring book and some crayons. It was so so kind of them and nice that they were prepared. The food was excellent as well. My husband got the hash and eggs and was very pleased with the big hunks of corned beef throughout the hash. I tried his homefries and they were also delicious! I got the apple stuffed french toast to share with my toddler. It was perfect. We also got a side of maple cream, which I still dream of. Will definitely come back on our next trip to the area.

We were told that it wasn't going to be a prix fixe menu as we were a party of under 12 when the reservation was booked (we asked). It was. Selection was somewhat limited particularly for the vegetarians but the waitress said that they could swap veggies in for the trout in the risotto. They didn't. It was just risotto. Potato leek soup. So salty that it was inedible. Like sea water salty. Three of us sent it back. NY Strip. Boring and clearly hadn't been seasoned before cooking (ironic). Not quite cold but really, really close. A little tiny ramekin of chimichurri sauce which I was supposed it make it interesting or tasty I guess. It was neither. The whipped potatoes were delicious. Desert was a borderline interminable wait. And then they served gelato and sorbet to four of us. Think milkshake. A thin, runny milkshake, approaching soup. The food runners and waitress were so embarrassed they couldn't look at us when they dropped the desert and ran. Who lets ice scream, posing as soup out of the kitchen. It used to be a quaint little place with fantastic food ... And now, an overpriced, industrial'ish place with sub-par food (although the owners are clearly cashing out, leaning on its prior reputation). Unfortunate. $85 a head, $1,500 all in with drinks and tip.
