Out of all the Tokyo Central branches, this location is one of my favorite stores due to the variety of produce and products from Japan. The catch is, it comes with a price. No doubt that the quality is high and you won't regret the purchase but the price is pretty steep. There isn't anytime where they didn't have stock, the presentation of the foods and the organization of the items are in perfection and the customer service is out of this world. They maintain the store sparkling clean that even a fly will slide. I strongly recommend picking up foods from the food court for the hot dish and sushi central area for the cold dish. Also, their mochi and bread selections are amazing so check that out as well before you leave. read more

Never mind the nuisance of the parking lot, and weekend's bloody long lines for checkout, the pros outweigh the cons here. Everything your pantry needs plus appliances, tableware, utensils, ceramics, and beauty supplies Tokyo Central has treasures! I especially love the fruits in season, green pea shoots, and local baked goods. I love they have everything I need for at home ramen or bibimguksu. If you come on the weekends in time for the rope drop, the race to the hot food and rows of bentos is reminiscent of Guy Fieri's Grocery Games! A supermarket specialized in Japanese goods. The place was quite busy when we visited there on a Saturday just before noon. The store has a wide variety of items catered to Japanese customers. They even have a claw machine or UFO Catcher (Kuren Genu) for kids to play with. Ready cooked food items are also available for customer to select and enjoy in a nearby section equipped with tables and chairs. In general, prices are comparable to other grocery stores, may be slightly higher for certain specific items. Overall the arrangement of various aisles is comparable to other Asian markets but not as neat as the Mitsuwa market but prices are slightly lower than Mitsuwa. Always an adventure when I come here and we LOVE the sales that occur on snacks. We enjoy the food court from time to time too. Good variety of onigiris, sushi rolls, sashimi platters and desserts (mochi, purin and pastries). Husband has a favorite brand of chips by Koikeya called Karamucho - spicy seaweed. The party bag size normally is $7.99 a bag, but they were having a promotion at $3.99/each! I did grab a cart before and when I came back to the cart, husband had 6 bags in there and was coming back with 4 more in hand. In that same trip, I also picked up a bag of seasonal amaou strawberry royal milk tea lattes and organic matcha. There's a lot of fun finds and seasonal items to explore. read more

Wow didn't realize what I was missing we came in to check out this store this is another store that surely be one of our stops when we are in Costa Mesa. The bad thing is parking is a little challenging due to the small parking lot that all the other stores are sharing with this Japanese Market. We have shopped at the Gardena Store and Yorba Linda stores; service is great and the ready made food are all are all fresh. Maybe one day they will increase the size of this store as it is being dwarfed by the Gardena and Yorba Linda stores. read more

My husband and I love coming here for a quick lunch/ sushi fix. Its super convenient that they have a large selection of sushi, bento boxes and japanese food. We love getting their sushi boxes and rice balls. I have gotten their curry plates and tempura plates before. Overall, their food is pretty solid and it doesnt break your bank trying to get some good sushi. After, we'll do a quick shopping trip to see what we need to get. The store seems a bit small but it has everything you need as a japanese supermarket. The parking lot is super small with limited parking and the parking stalls are super small. Very sweet, very dangerous if you don't portion it out. Moderate to high prices due to imports but was worth to try since they're so good. I don't understand why people are talking about mitsuwa and not this place because the first thing you are greeted by when you walk in is a whole U shaped of Japanese food from sushi to breads to hot food to roasted sweet potato!! Definitely somewhere to eat with friends and try a bunch of thing. Stock wise, it seems to be the best place to find anything Japanese you may need, maybe less Japanese medications but it has asian medications. The main point is the food which my friend says is more stocked on the weekend. The prices in the store are a little pricier so I would only go here to stock up on Japanese necessities. Literally the GOAT of Japanese supermarkets. I find that prices here a bit easier on the wallet than Mitsuwa. Their prepared food selection is unmatched. If you are on a budget, they have mark downs in the evening. Fresh, always fresh, produce and seafood. read more

Stopped by to pick up a few condiments which I had ran out of, so my husband and I decided to grab a quick bite. Not only can you find quality produce, meats, seafood, and snacks, but they offer an array of freshly prepared (then packaged in-store) sashimi, sushi, inari, onigiri, and poke bowls you can grab on the go! Perfect for when you get that sushi craving but don't feel like overstuffing yourself at your favorite AYCE place. There are also freshly cooked dishes you can pick and chose yourself (buffet style), which we have yet to try. They have tables and counter seating if you opt to eat there. They have a huge parking lot, but it gets crowded! And I can see why--because this place is Japanese food & etc lollapalooza. There are SO many options for a quick meal including a large assortment of pre-made sushi, rice dishes, veggies and a hot buffet bar (by the pound pricing) with meats, noodles, and street food/appetizers. It can be overwhelming in the best way. Depending on the time of day, it can get crowded so it's an exercise in maneuvering around other (possibly hungry/hangry) people. Get everything you want to purchase (groceries, souvenirs, pre-made foods, drinks etc) all at once and pay at the cashier. There is a dining area that provides you with a microwave, if needed, utensils and napkins. I had the spicy scallop roll and wow, it was delicious. Full disclosure, I'm not a huge sushi connoisseur but I know what tastes good to me, and THAT was delicious! I also loved the takoyaki at the hot buffet bar. And the price was more than right! I was so excited about the price that I almost squealed (maybe I did?) and the cashier giggled. That's a bit embarrassing, but I would've laughed at me too. I had just gotten back from a trip to Hawaii and was already missing the island flavors, so Tokyo Central was the perfect place to satisfy those cravings. I stocked up on green tea seaweed, Hawaiian Sun POG, frozen ahi tuna steak, nama sake kirimi, Hawaiian BBQ sauce, crispy fried onions, sushi shoga, sushi wasabi, and a Hawaiian spicy chicken seasoning packet. Every item hit the mark, and I was honestly surprised to find some of the Hawaiian products cheaper here than they were on the islands. The service was excellent, as staff were friendly, helpful, and genuinely seemed to enjoy being there. One even pointed me to a few new sauces to try. The layout of the store is also a huge plus. Everything is clean, clearly labeled, and organized by section, which makes it easy to find what you need (or things you didn't know you needed until you saw them). What a surprise to see that there is a Tokyo Central near the Disneyland park! It literally saved me a drive to Torrance. I was driving around looking for Target and saw the store across the street. I went right in and bought some hand rolls and bento boxes. The selection wasn't too big but it had the basics that I wanted. I believe the price point was bit higher than what I expected or what I was used to. The dining area is small and had two microwaves. NO utensils provided, you have to go up to the checkout person and ask for a utensil. Overall, this place provided what I wanted and satisfied my craving.
