This is probably my favorite southern Minnesota / south of Burnsville restaurant. A few other places I like are Ranchero Supper Club, El Tequila and El Jeffe. Faribault and Owatonna have Mizuki Fusion which is really not bad, but Tokyo Grill is on a different higher level. I usually order the sashimi here, which comes with a hot bowl of furikake-topped rice. I also order the tea, which always comes in that nice green kettle. Hibachi is great here too. The staff here are fantastic / super nice. It's often busy but not crowded when I am there. The vibe - it's clean / casual, contemporary. The presentation touches on some of the items add to the experience. read more

Salad with ginger dressing was a good size, and my daughter liked the miso soup. Shrimp and veggie tempura was fried to perfection. Sushi rolls were also flavorful and well-priced. I liked the lighting and the seating area. The only con was that it took forever for someone to come greet us/get drunk orders after we were seated and then to come back and take our order, but this place still gets five stars for food and vibes. read more

Pretty decent option for Japanese favs like hibachi and sushi. My daughter picked this place as her special birthday spot and she loved ordering her own bento box. All of the food we tried was fresh and delicious and service was fast and friendly. It was pretty busy during our visit and seemed to be filled with locals and students, so you know this place is good. Prices were fair for the amount of food you get and had a great meal. read more

Unexpectedly fantastic. Honestly, I had some reservations about sushi in Northfield, but wow was I wrong. Was in town for family weekend for St. Olaf, and this is where we picked for dinner as we have a vegetarian (the college student) and a 15-year-old who loves sushi. The service isn't quick, but it is friendly and efficient. The menu is extensive, but not overly so. We had a spicy boy roll, crunchy roll, Ichiban roll, and a veggie tempura roll. All were incredible, some of the best sushi I have had in a while, and I was on the west coast and had sushi several times the last few months. We arrived around 5:30 on a Saturday and were seated promptly. When we left around 6:30 the place was PACKED with more people streaming in and waiting for tables. Great place for sushi (keep in mind this is the Midwest, we do not have the same fish freshness as coastal areas), if you're in a mood for some rolls or sushi and sashimi - don't hesitate to come by Tokyo grill. Great find in Northfield! The Sushi menu is well done; it shows that the sushi chef is proud of their work and takes pride in the presentation of their roles! The spicy tuna never disappoints, but the star of the night was the spicy shrimp! The crab Rangoon appetizer was fantastic as were the pot-stickers. The waitstaff was very friendly and helpful. The cold Sake was excellent and reasonably priced. If you're in Northfield and looking for a place for Sushi, this is worth the stop. read more

This place is incredibly pedestrian. If you have a sushi craving, this will fill your need but it won't knock your socks off. The miso soup was served warm, not hot and it was just salty. The rolls I ordered were formed very well, but they were just so blah. Spicy tuna should be spicy, right? The service was pleasant enough and the atmosphere was decent. Those two things are not enough to get me back. I would choose Mizuki Fusion a few miles away in Faribault. read more

Had a huge craving for sushi and came across Tokyo grill! I ordered a roll, tempura calamari and chicken hibachi. The soup served is miso soup (wasn't my favorite), salad was very fresh and the hibachi meal was good. Lacking seasoning but soy sauce and yum yum sauce did the trick. Not the best hibachi I've ever but good in a pinch. I had a shrimp tempura roll with crab on top. Delicious! The tempura calamari was the best thing I tried. Served with some soy sauce ginger dip. read more

Pretty good, no doubt. I recently moved to the commercial/industrial wastes on the outskirts of Northfield, where this restaurant is located. So far, I've found there to be a severe shortage of quality food within walking distance of where I live on Clinton Ln. Tried Tokyo Grill tonight, and wasn't disappointed. Place was busy but service was prompt. Refilled my iced tea constantly. Had the hibachi steak/shrimp, edamame and a spicy tuna hand roll. All were good, for a place does that does the hibachi in the back and not in front of you while flinging shrimp at your face/setting things on fire. Entree portion could have been a little bigger, but oh well. I'm sure I'll go again. So far, this place and George's are the only two I've found within a mile walking (with a sidewalk available) that are worthwhile. I'll keep looking, and always looking for suggestions. read more

YUM YUM TIME! Had a yummylicious Liza dinner at one of Carleton College's most esteemed dining out options! Can't start without Miso soup and the house salad. Delicious per usual. Liza and I advanced to the the gyoza: mediocre in flavor, but perfectly crispy! Liza enjoyed her California roll with a side of chicken (sauce included!). I stuck with my usual chicken bento box and it did not disappoint. But the real star of the show is the yum yum sauce. Takes your breath away in every bite and drowns your tongue in yummy goodness. I love, love, love this restaurant ! I've been fortunate to dine there pre-pandemic and thankful to now enjoy the take out currently. The restaurant is situated on a former Wendy's site and the current owners have renovated the interior to make it warm and inviting. The use of the drive thru window that came with the original building design is now invaluable. During the current restrictions, the restaurant is open for take out and orders are very easily made online or to call the restaurant. The sushi rolls are my favorites, however the menu offers a wide selection. This a wonderful family owned business that makes delicious food and provides exceptional service. read more

This place is worth driving to for good sushi. Many awesome choices, decent prices, excellent service, and good specials that are not on the regular menu. Everything we got was exceptional. My favorite was the Pink Lady Roll. Got a special called Fire Roll, also delicious! Gyoza, nigiri, and tamago were all just as good. So pleased with everything here. Living in the southern suburbs, this will be my new go-to spot for sushi. read more

Tokyo Grill is one of the best sushi places I've visited! The price is unbeatable and the staff is always wonderful. I would always have the miso soup ($2) and one of the special rolls (most about $10-11) and that is pretty much the best $13 meal you can get anywhere. The dragon roll, golden age roll, or crunchy roll is great for a tempura fan like me. My friend loved the sushi deluxe (chef's choice of 9 pieces of sushi and a tuna roll) and the bento boxes as well. The lunch special is also worth checking out, tons of delicious food for a great price. They are incredibly fast with take out orders and go above and beyond when dining in. I came with my boyfriend this spring for his birthday and they brought out a complimentary fried banana which was very nice. Can't recommend more! read more

I just have to say I was totally surprised shocked and impressed that such a great sushi restaurant could be found in the middle of the Midwest in Minnesota. I too like a lot of other reviewers come from Chicago, He's in a veto amazing sushi there any New York City as well as San Francisco... and I have to say I was impressed with every roll I ordered. I had: The Alaska roll, the sparkling roll, the Dragon Roll, and the Pink Lady. My favorite was the sparkling role because it had crab meat and cream cheese on the inside and was fried on the outside. All of the rolls tased SOOOOO good and were high-quality. I have no complaints whatsoever about the sushi and I would highly recommend anyone eating here. As a serious sushi lover myself this is really the top of my list. My only complaint is that they serve the pink ginger instead of the preferable and higher quality and better tasting white ginger. I still don't understand why any sushi restaurant that's worth going to serves the lower class picture and Jeremy more. Call me a ginger snob, but I find that most of the good sushi restaurants serve the white ginger; Tokoyo Grill is an exception! read more

I would honestly prefer to do a 3.5 rating but that isn't an option and for friendly service I rounded up. I was greeted immediately for takeout. Prices are standard. Food was pretty basic, not terrible, not raving. The sushi was ok, I've had better but it was fresh so that's welcome. I didn't care for the fried rice at all. It had a sort of peppered taste and was still "white", not as dark as I prefer either. To note, I am originally from south Florida so this is definitely an "out of town" experience. I would go back just because it is Japanese food in town but that is it. The service was great though. read more

Best sushi I have ever had. Also at one of the most reasonable prices I can imagine. The service was friendly and fast. These rolls at this quality could easy be priced way higher. It is better than any sushi I have paid twice as much for in the twin cities. I loved the king roll, and all their basic rolls were masterful. I was pleasantly surprised to be treated to dinner here by the defensive line coach at Carleton College during my son's recruiting visit to that great institution. I had a salad, miso soup, and the hibachi steak with grilled veggies and fried rice. Everything was very tasty - not like a great sushi / hibachi restaurant in San Francisco, mind you, but better than one might reasonably expect in the frozen countryside of Minnesota. Our waitress was American so there was no language barrier, and very pleasant. The only problem was the temperature of the food - the soup was lukewarm and the entree slightly warmer. On a very cold night, I would have like some steaming hot food to warm me up, and would have rated this little place four stars had that happened. read more

I'm glad they're open on a Sunday night. Tanzenwald was closing and wouldn't be open until Tuesday... But that said, some issues. I walked in, and it was pretty busy, lots of tables full, but certainly enough open for me to be seated. The hostess spent another five minutes talking with a group who was leaving whom she obviously knew personally, while I stood there. I double checked with a wait staff that I wasn't supposed to seat myself? But no, I needed to wait for the hostess. Ordered a sushi deluxe special. Soup was fine (okay, good - miso soup is sofa king good). Salad was icebergy, drenched in the dressing, but tasty. I'd say the sushi was fine - salmon and tuna, and whitefish were really good, the tuna rolls okay? It took a long while to get the sushi after the salad and soup, but they were busy, so that wasn't a huge deal. read more

Not only was the salmon excellent and the rice perfectly done, the selection of rolls was superb and _everything_ we ordered was fantastic, better than we've had at the places we go closer to home. Not only were we in absolute sushi heaven, we were shocked at how little we spent given an appetizer (yellowtail tartare -- fantastic) and a small bottle of sake to share. My wife and I love this place. Its in an old Wendy's which is obvious when you drive by, but they re-did the inside and it's very cozy. The staff is incredibly friendly and service is fast, even when they're busy. The food is good, great when you consider their location. The staff understands gluten free and they have many tasty options. Sushi is tasty and fresh. The teriyaki is delicious and reminds me of the millions of teriyaki places in Seattle. read more

Went with a bunch of friends (group of 10) and had a really good time! This is one of the best sushi places here. I had the dragon roll and royal roll. As a dragon roll lover, I have to say, the dragon roll is much above average and I am sure that I will order it again next time! It's fresh and yummy! However, I'm not that a big fun of the Royal roll as its kind of blend in taste. Some of my friends ordered the bento box and they loved theirs too. One trick is that if you prefer seaweed salad than normal salad, you can ask for a switch for the side. read more
