Good quality food considering I think this place is somewhat off the beaten path being in Northfield. The eel donburi was okay with 6 pieces of eel over a bowl of rice. I also had a dragon roll which helped round out the meal as the eel wasn't going to be enough. Tried the scallops appetizer which was cooked in that mayonnaise sauce and overall this dish was disappointing. Lots of older retired couples that come here regularly as the waitress greeted like friends. This place is okay but it wouldn't make it in my area near San Francisco. read more

We eat there quite often. The staff is very friendly, very quick and have never gotten our orders wrong. The food is good and lunch menu is a very good deal. Tokyo Grill holds a place in my heart as my 'anytime sushi'. I would pick Tokyo Grill over any other sushi place in the south metro, and even some in the cities. The fish is of a good quality, the rice is excellently prepared (a surprising issue for many sushi places), and the veggies are fresh- nothing worse than slimy avocado on your roll! The owner is a wonderful lady and she always seems to remember my fiance and I- even when we haven't been in for months. I love the hibachi and the bento box- the fried rice is divine with a little drizzle of their white shrimp sauce. I don't know what they put in that stuff, but it's addicting and I'm happy to slather it on anything that isn't sushi. Yum. read more

Ordered Shrimp Tempura and Spicy Salmon Roll. The shrimp came first. T'was good. I asked for chili and it was good. The salmon roll came next. Don't know if it was cooked or raw. Just was salmon that was rolled in seaweed and rice. Disappointed it didn't have cucumber or crab meat or anything else. Don't know how spicy it was since I asked for extra chili. Asked for chili twice. Two rounds were enough. Get same thing. See if there's another option for the roll. read more

Its only four stars because the sushi is only A-OK. That said, wow is this place good for the middle of nowhere Japanese food. The waiting staff may be Chinese, but this place is not terribly priced and has quite a few highlights. It is not worth being cheap and buying simple tuna or salmon rolls. You gotta go out and buy the fancy rolls, but those are really nice. The kingroll was the best I had there. The best part of the place is the seaweed salad. Its very good, I say go for it. Avoid the shumai. Given the context this place deserves a solid 4 stars, but the bad shumai bumps them down. I love shumai. read more

Went to eat saturday the 11th of march. The first time i was there. I ordered shrimp and steak off the grill. I recieved chicken and steak. I asked twice for silverware, no water refill. Great take out system right now! They have a walk up window where you can order or just pick up from there. If you walk up they will give you a buzzer and you can sit in your car. Crab rangoons were very good. They actually taste like crab not just cream cheese like some places. Yaki udon was good and a large portion! So grab some takeout already! read more

honestly, I do not know they have good reviews. This place only treats you like a customer if you're WHITE, totally discriminated against me and my friends of color. There was a long wait, finally when we were seated they rushed the entire process of us eating there, kept coming around rushing us to leave. Not to mention when the food came it tasted like it was heated up again... the food isn't that much worse than what's available at any number of popular chain restaurants, from the higher end through fast food (though I would much rather eat the shrimp fried rice at P.F. An Unexpected Treasure in Northfield This is a top-notch sushi restaurant, and it's in a little college town. The sushi here is as good as I've had anywhere. I would have given it five stars, but I was a little less than impressed with the chicken fried rice (it should have been much smokier). Also, I rarely give five stars in my reviews. If you get the chance, sit at their sushi counter and watch the cooks apply their artistry. They are highly skilled and amazing to see. I highly recommend the Lake City sushi roll. It comes with two incredible fried shrimp tempura. The American Dream sushi roll is also fantastic. If you don't live in Northfield, it's worth the drive. read more

Personally I wasn't very impressed and found the food to be lacking finesse,but I can understand the appeal for those haven't had really really good Japanese food. Any way the service was good and our server was very polite, the food seemed to be a little to Americanised. For instance the spring roll filling to soft and needed glass noodles, the beef dry and under seasoned, the rolls the meat was shredded so fine texturally it was off putting, and the fried rice just had no depth. I won't be returning but surly not the worst if your really damn hungry or unknowing. read more

I'll admit they have good sushi, but the worst customer service. We waited for an hour to get 2 sushi rolls and watched other patrons get served food who had been seated at least a half hour after us. When we asked about the status of our meal, we were told there was a long line of tickets and that we hadn't been forgotten. Half hour later, we finally got our food. I am shocked by the positive reviews after eating here. We were walked to a booth, the server put the menus and beer list on the table. Before we could even sit down she wanted our drink order. Didn't even give us time to look at the selections before taking the drink menu away. Um, guests ordering alcohol=bigger bill=bigger tip. But nope! Just tea for us. We ordered the "spicy" tuna roll, veg tempura, gyoza, and a hibachi meal along with green tea. Everything was extremely bland. The "tuna" resembled pink dyed breadcrumbs--some bits were just crumbs, not even pink. The wasabi was the least potent I've ever tasted. The miso soup was watered down, the fried rice only tasted of oil and black pepper. Even the green tea was flavorless. The two stars instead of one are due to the nice man who finished the service and the steak was cooked perfectly. read more

Decided to try this place instead of fast food last weekend, and it was a great choice. The food was very fresh and came in a reasonable amount of time. I have been here twice and am so impressed, this is truly a hidden gem in Northfield. At a very reasonable price, you can get a decent Hibachi steak and sushi for probably half what you would pay at the same quality up in the metro. A nice change for Northfield. The staff is extremely friendly and attentive. For a small town "in the middle of nowhere" Japanese restaraunt, the food is delicious. The menu is fairly small and limited, however everything we have tried has been good. Surprisingly, the sushi is fresh, although portion size is smaller than most other sushi places. Tokyo Grill was NOT BAD!! Truth be told, if we're really being honest, I am not a fan of Japanese food. It's just that simple - sushi has its moments, but I never will be the one to suggest we get it. Or hibachi. And the worst part is, both tend to be pretty pricey. And if it's affordable, it's usually not great. But the dinner options in Northfield, MN are pretty limited and Tokyo Grill is my sister's favorite restaurant there - and we were going out for dinner as a family last minute after her graduation ceremony. We called and were able to get a table for 6 set up for us pretty much right away, which was a pleasant surprise. I was worried it would be a long wait wherever we went. The space isn't very large but there's a good amount of seating and the service is efficient. My dad and sister got bento boxes, my boyfriend got hibachi, and my mom and brother and I shared a bunch of sushi rolls. I thought the teriyaki steak that my sister got in her bento box was fantastic! The sushi was also pretty decent. Best of all was the price - it is very affordable to eat a hibachi or sushi dinner here and not feel like you're breaking the bank or compromising on quality/taste. Highly recommend! read more

I've been trying all kinds of places since I got back to Minnesota. I really like the atmosphere of this place. The waitress I had was friendly and courteous. I sat at the sushu bar, I had the Maka don. (Raw tuna over sushi rice). As I was finishing up, the sushi man at the bar offered me a crispy crab taco. Oh man, this was SOOOO good. I order sum to go but they told me it doesn't travel well (which they are right) because the chip gets a bit soggy. I don't live that far away. It's definitely something you have to eat there. I also had a chicken bento. The rice wasn't all too great, the sushi (california rolls) that came with it were fine. The teriyaki sauce on the chicken wasn't as sweet as other places I've had. This is my daughters favorite restaurant in Northfield. The sushi is fresh and well prepared. They have a very large selection of sushi rolls with many different combinations of ingredients and sauces They also offer well prepared standard sushi house dishes and bento boxes suitable for all tastes. Many offerings are easily modified to suit vegetarian diners. The also offer several versions of teriyaki steaks and chicken as well as more traditional fare. I like their preparation of fried tofu called Agadashi tofu in that they are cut thin and fried so you have a high crunch to soft center ratio. The atmosphere is clean and not fancy. Sort of like a converted fast food joint. But the food is reasonably priced and if you want you can opt for pretty authentic fare. read more

I have mixed feelings about Tokyo grill: The food is very good, fresh, especially the Hibachi (great!) and bento boxes. However sushis are fine but not great. Not a fan of the spring rolls, but the gyozas are good. The staff is very nice, but very uneven in their service. They forgot parts of our orders three times (it will come fast and with apology, but after a friendly reminder), dishes come in no particular order (appetizers and soup after side orders for example), they sometimes forget chopsticks or water. Again, they are nice and willing to correct their mistakes quickly, but when it happens too often it's annoying. The free fresh orange offered at the end (new!) is very nice. All in all, a good addition to Northfield choices at very reasonable prices, but there is still room for improvement: I hope I can increase my rating in the future. read more

When they first opened they were amazing, but now the service is bad and the food is American Asian average. The only reason to go here is the sushi. Sit at the sushi bar, get good food and avoid bad service. Last time I went they messed up two of our orders. I wanted this daily special appetizer they were advertising in the foyer area on a whiteboard but I couldn't remember the name of it. I was trying to tell the waitress I wanted her advertised special appetizer and she looks at me like I was crazy. She kept pointing to things on the menu that were not what I was trying to order. I literally had to get up and check the whiteboard for her and after I said the name she finally understood what I wanted. That said, a customer should never have to get up and check YOUR specials for the day. I won't go there again until the service gets better. read more

If you are in the area this is the place to eat. I got the sashimi regular (chefs choice) and not only did it look like a piece of art it was delicious!
