On our drive back to California from Reno, I was seriously craving sushi. I searched along our route and Tokyo House Japanese Restaurant popped up on both Google and Yelp with decent reviews, so my husband and I decided to give it a try. We ordered a few sushi rolls, a rice plate with beef and vegetables, and chicken potstickers. I'll start with the positives: the woman who took our order over the phone was very kind and professional, and our food was ready right on time when we arrived. The restaurant itself was also very clean, which we appreciated. We took everything to go since we were continuing our road trip. Unfortunately, once we started eating, we were really disappointed. While the pricing was reasonable, the food quality just didn't match the reviews. The beef had almost no flavor, the rice was bland, and the overall dish felt very under-seasoned. The sushi was simply okay not terrible, but not something I'd go out of my way for. The biggest letdown, though, was the chicken potstickers. They were burned on the outside and when we opened them up, there was barely any filling inside. They tasted dry and overcooked, which was really disappointing. It wasn't a horrible experience overall, but definitely not memorable in a good way. Would I come back? No. Would I recommend it? Probably not. The service and cleanliness were solid, but when it comes to Japanese food, flavor and execution matter most and unfortunately, this just didn't deliver for us. read more

Ordered one shrimp and one chicken fried rice. They were mediocre. You can't use soy sauce to flavor your food cause it has strong smell, strong aftertaste, and the flavor is not all that great. Took forever to finish them because of it. And The chicken was dry. Shrimp tempura was decent. Nice breading. The two sushi rolls seemed smaller than other places cause they were able to cramp two rolls in one container. It was Sunday and not much option. Not going here again. read more

3.25 stars. The service was good, sushi tasted good, and we enjoyed our experience up to a certain point. My main concern is the poor quality of the fresh herbs topping the sushi. The green onions were old and dry. I had never seen such unfresh green onions being presented to me before. I was like, wow, they must have an inexperienced chef working on Friday night. We decided to order one last roll from the specials-- it was called Bam Crunch. We waited a long time for this to come to our table, even the server noticed it had been a while. You would think that in the 20+ minutes it took for this one roll that they could have found some decent cilantro, even if that meant a quick trip to Stater Bros. The cilantro was worse than the green onions, and I was just disappointed at this point. How does a sushi chef let something like this stay in the kitchen instead of composting it or throwing it in the trash? Please don't disrespect your patrons like this. This is not fast food, nor is it inexpensive. Also, the maki are smaller than at other Japanese restaurants. I would rather drive to the AV the next time we want sushi. read more

The food was delicious and Leo (the owner) made me special sushi when I told him I'm vegetarian. They also cooked some rice without butter for one of my friends and special rice for other (food allergies). They went above and beyond with their food. AMAZING!! However, I will say that I enjoyed the entertainment of the chef and he was very generous in portioning our food. This is your typical family ran establishment doing the best they can, nothing fancy. We went to Tokyo house as a last minute pick not expecting much. Once we got there it was busy but they fit us in quickly. Everyone helping was super nice throughout our visit too. Once we got seated we got some appetizers and was told there was going to be a wait because a limited number of chefs, but it only took about 10 minutes. The food was better than I had expected and the albacore was pretty good. The ambiance was kinda basic but was made up for by the service. They used to have great owner entertainment before the new owners came in. It seems like they don't know how to entertain anymore. I have one guy he just wasn't very good and it seems like he just started. He knows how to use salt that's for sure way too salty sorry they used to give you soup and sell it which was great now it's an up sale. The food was horrible. Tokyo House was about to close for good when someone bought it to keep it open. It's always been one of our favorite places for great food, sushi, fun, and atmosphere. Went back to check out how it was going with the new owner and mind blown. Leo is the new owner and master sushi chef. Wound up talking with him and our awesome server Sylvia. I didn't realize the ownership changed. The soup and salad tasted the same but everything else tasted different. I'm not a fan of the changes in flavors. One of the shrimp in my food was mushy (I've never experienced that before). Fast service, the rolls were on the smaller side but had good flavor. As for the food, the steaks were tasty, but our shrimp was definitely overcooked. Wouldn't suggest getting shrimp. Glad I didn't order scallops. Sauce was nice, vegetables were good, the fried rice was okay. Miso wasn't the best, but the salad was good. I enjoyed the ginger dressing. They only had two other sauces neither of which was yumyum/bangbang. Disappointing. When we got to our destination to eat we realized they didn't put any silverware or napkins in the bag. This used to be my favorite sushi restaurant in Ridgecrest. They have recently come under new ownership and the food has changed. My son had the teriyaki chicken sober noodles, and the soba noodles were not cooked properly. The vegetables weren't cooked, and the soba noodles had changed completely. The chicken was very tiny and hard to find in the noodles. The sushi does not taste the same as he used to, it's sad to hear that the owners had to Sell so they could go home to take care of their parents. read more
