I tried their Japanese noodle. Ordered the tonkatsu noodle. Broth ok but only 3 pieces of thinly sliced pork. Should put less noodles and more veggies. While the seafood one has more substance but the broth was made using soy sauce. The broth literally tasted like drinking soy sauce. Very salty and hard to eat. I removed the noodles from the broth and deep fried it to eat with this veggies I made but couldn't eat it because the soy sauce absorbed into the noodles and made it too salty to eat. We went twice in a few months. For a new place, I like to see if it's consistent. They were! Staff greets you warmly and we got seated right away. The menu does have a lot of options. I order more than I can eat because I like checking things out. I really love how they deep fry things. The oil tastes fresh, and the batter is light the way I'd expect. The meat is very good quality (we had shrimp, chicken, and beef). No gristle. Things were well cut up. Well, not the shrimp. But I digress. And I did enjoy the sushi. It took a bit of back and forth to verify that the tuna was maguro and not toro. I also had unagi and a few others, but I can't remember now. I appreciate the portion size. It's large compared to what I get up here in Silicon Valley, and the prices are quite reasonable considering how fresh the ingredients are. I haven't checked out the bathroom yet but the rest of the restaurant is very clean and nicely decorated. My only grumble is that the hot sake is not hot. It's slightly warmer than room temp. First time eating at Chen's and was very pleased with the friendly service and the cozy atmosphere! The food was absolutely amazing! The Spicy Miso Ramen had a great flavor to it. Definitely could feed 2-3 people! The sushi rolls were spot on. Teriyaki Roll (left of the bowl), Jessica's Roll (top of bowl), Hawaiian Roll (right of bowl), Soft Shelled Crab Roll (bottom of bowl). The restaurant is very clean and pleasant. They play the typical erhu and dizi music commonly heard in Chinese traditional music. The staff is very polite and helpful. The steamed gyoza is the typical Gyoza you get at a sushi restaurant, good and properly cooked. The miso soup was also good like all other sushi restaurants. This is where Chen's stands out: Teriyaki chicken was wonderfully made. Often restaurants pan fry with teriyaki sauce and it ends up too salty and over cooked. NOT HERE!! They did a wonderful grilled chicken then finished it off with light teriyaki to not over power that lovely grilled flavor. And they did not overburdened the plate with a bag of broccoli. It was delicious. The Tonkotsu Ramen was very flavorful with a generous portion of pork. The noodles were a little softer than I am used to, however it still had enough of a chew. I definitely would request them to make sure the noodles were left a little on the firmer side. Maybe by two minutes. The California roll was a typical roll except it was a little on the lighter side with the rice. The amount of rice was consistent throughout all the rolls. The Crown Roll was lovely. I was not expecting it to taste so fresh being in the desert however it was combined very well. It also was very generous with the amount of meat used. The shaggy dog roll was a nicely done roll with a great crunch from the shrimp inside. The sauces used definitely made it stand out. IMPORTANT : the only thing that surprised me was I didn't look closely at the receipt and afterwards realized I was charged twice for the California roll and crown roll. Food was horrible. Service was terrible. When we walked in the "Sushi Chefs" were staring us down, probably trying to decide if they could serve us the old fish, which they did. I'll never go here again and we go out a lot, especially if the place was good. They treated regulars well, with good service and their food looked good. Had to keep grabbing another server to order and to get things we needed. We were never checked on either and went without things we needed for food. The manager walked by and ignored us too. I sent some really nasty food back and they acted like they didn't care and when I asked the owner if he even knew food came back he said no and could care a less. They still tried to charge me for the disgusting food and I had to see this non caring owner to get my bill adjusted. I don't eat shit and I certainly won't pay for it. My dinner partner was not pleased at all either with their mushy gross food either. Don't eat here unless you want to take your chances. To the owner- you are an arrogant, rude, non caring person. No wonder your staff acts like that too. This place sucks!!!!!! read more

we came here around 8:45pm we were starving and never had this place before, we ordered rice noodles with teriyaki the chicken was watered down had no flavor. Then we ordered a side of octopus for my son and he immediately threw it up. He's been sick all day today. My husband got a roll which was the only thing that was good out of this order all for $60 that's outrageous for food that has no flavor and gives you food poisoning right off the bat I called and no one answered. They pre cooked everything including the egg it was very discolored and was cold on the inside. the noodles were still stuck together in clumps from sitting in whatever container they had them in the back. the overall taste was abysmal. not only that but the waitress or owner clearly saw I hardly touch my Ramen bowl and didn't care to ask if there was something wrong. Everything we had here was absolutely delicious! I'm really happy they don't shove imitation crab into every single roll. I'm highly allergic to tomato, which is used to make the red color in imitation crab. Please don't change your recipes! The service itself it also great. The food was excellent! I had the pork chops, and my wife had the steak. They both came with white rice and mixed vegetables and were stir-fried with a delicious sauce, a common feature in all Asian cuisines. The food was displayed perfectly, inviting our hungry appetites to feast on all their delectable delights. And yes! They serve alcohol. We like that food so much that we ordered a California roll to go. As to their service, we found that our waitress, Sheila, was polite, affable, and intuitive to our needs, and made us feel very comfortable. As to their Ambiance, we were delightfully surprised to see that this was an air-conditioned room and a newly remodeled venue. For those who are familiar with Ridgcrest, the Chen Sushi Kitchen has replaced "The Golden Dragon" with a complete and refreshing Japanese theme. We were also impressed with the in-house music, designed to play the old traditional Japanese sounds, both Koto & Shakuhachi. The restaurant was carefully designed with a modern Japanese theme of Bleached colored wooden tables and chairs, complete with both booths and the traditional bar-style seating. We really wanted to love this place but our experience wasn't good. We arrived about 4:45 on a Saturday because we had a 6:25 movie to get to and wanted to allow enough time. We ordered a steak meal with stir-fry veggies and fried rice as well as 2 rolls. The meal came out in a normal amount of time and the fried rice was good but the veggies portion was tiny (maybe a handful of pieces) and the steak was half fat. The steak that was there was tender and well-seasoned though. After waiting an hour for the sushi rolls and seeing others get theirs who hadn't even been in the restaurant yet when we ordered, we asked about the status of ours. We were told they would be another 30 minutes. We ended up cancelling them, paid for the rest of the meal and leaving. We did not see the waitress for the entire wait time and drinks were only offered to be refilled after we asked about the wait. We're hoping they get the kinks out and we can try them again in a few months as I know others have had good experiences. We would have been happier if the waitress was at all apologetic rather than dismissive. She said others got their rolls because they must have ordered first but they were literally not even seated yet when we ordered. Disappointed as we really wanted to try the rolls. read more
