Had a great visit earlier this afternoon. The youg man who took care of us was amazing . Hate that I didnt catch his name (young, 20ish blonde/brown hair.?) With so many food allergies, it's always scary to eat out and him and the staff took amazing care of us. Our food was great and came out very fast.We had no issues and we all felt comfortable eating. For starters, I prefer and love to support local but not when the waitress writes you a check thats $30 off from what it should be. If I hadnt checked the amount I wouldve paid $80.50 for a dinner for two... After i said something, there still wasn't a "my bad" or "I apologize" just slapped the $30 lower check on the table and walk away. Surprised I still had a heart to tip. Also, maybe being served in sweats and a sweatshirt should've let me know what I was in for. Food was okay. read more

What a brutal experience! I am a frequent visitor of Ichiban for the past 5 years. We arrived and noticed that they were busy. Not unusual for a Friday night. We sat at a table and after 25 minutes of waiting for our menu and server (and witnessed three other customers who arrived after us receive their appetizers) I walked up to the counter and explained to the girl up front that we had been waiting for quite a while. She apologized and assured me a waitress would be right with me. Again 10 minutes had gone by before we received our menu. She asked us for our drinks and again we waited yet another 10 minutes or so to receive our drinks. After 20 minutes of waiting and wondering where our food was. The server came to my table and apologized for our food being backed up, Wrong!! I overheard the waitress talking to the sushi chef about how they overlooked my order. At this point I had enough, our order was not correct. I asked for a manager and the server said the managers were not working tonight however, the OWNER was! I said great can you please have the owner assist the situation. She came back and said they would give me 10% off our meal. I agreed and apologized for my frustration. Well again we waited for our meal that was lost and found then delivered an hour after we sat down. The servers never refilled our drinks or even bothered to ask if we needed anything. I was floored at this point. Well after waiting another 15 minutes expecting a server to bring my check I made the out of character move to walk out of the restaurant. I planned on returning the next day to pay for my meal (even though at this point the damn meal should have been free). The server came outside right behind me and shouted "dine and dash"! I was floored and found it hilarious. It took everything in my power not to keep walking, I turned around and paid my bill. However I will no longer visit Ichiban which was one of my favorite places in town to eat!! Truly saddened by this experience! I will no longer visit Ichiban. And to the owner that was watching this all unfold and leaving your employees to handle the situation. You need to do better!!! It's no wonder you can't keep employees. read more

After a long day of driving, we decided to give Ichiban a whirl to unwind ourselves. What a refreshing experience! The food was great, all across the board. Really good quality sushi. Compared to any other sushi place, the portions were quite large. We overdid it because we weren't expecting that, and walked away feasted. Although it was really busy, it wasn't a din, and we could hear each other and talk in normal voices. And the last comment is the staff. What a bunch of friendly, welcoming people! They all sort of roam around, so everyone came to our table at some point, chatted us up a little, and made us feel like locals who've been there a thousand times. Cool place. read more

Came here for my daughters birthday. First time here and it was a lot busier than expected but service was great. Cold Japanese beers. I had a house salad with wasabi dressing, that was tasty. We had a whole bunch of rolls it was hard to keep track of them all. They were all excellent but the one that stood out was the 911 roll. It had this crazy mohawk topping that I didn't expect. It was very rich and a whole extra surprise to the roll. We also had the spicy garlic edamame which was surprisingly good. We did notice that the spicy stuff could have had a little more heat. read more

This was my first meal at IchiBan. The Seafood Ramen is delicious. Broth is delicious as well as all the other ingredients. Good proportion of seafood to noodles. My husband had Yakisoba with Shrimp and the shrimp were plentiful. Rolls looked great. We will definitely return again. read more

Went in with my wife to get sushi at 16:00 Lady cleaning the tables looked confused when I said two and said I don't know . I said there are two tables over there. She got a kid from the back that said we would have to wait for a table or sit at bar. I said what's wrong with those two tables over there. He said he can't seat us there because a group of 8 might come in and I'd have to sit at the bar or wait. I told him he just lost two customers. He didn't say anything and we walked out in disgust. This restaurant was a delight from start to finish. I ordered the shrimp lovers sushi, a side dish of edamames, and a pot of green tea. It was delicious, Chef Mario out did himself. I especially liked sitting at the sushi bar and watching them build their beautiful creations. Great place to go where the service is amazing, and the servers are always polite. Another gem I stumbled on when making a pit stop for lunch. This was by far one of the best sushi restaurants I've ever experienced. The preparation and quality of every dish was meticulous and divine! It was beyond good, I mean everything, every roll was perfection! The staff was super efficient and coordinated with attending customers. Casual and clean setting, tables are generously spaced apart to make for a comfortable experience. I'm just driving through on my way to Mammoth & checked for the best sushi & found it! Hailey & Alejandra really know the menu & work together as a great team! I love eel so would highly recommend the Half Dragon & Alaska as well as my favorite Unagi. The sushi is very fresh & the chefs are quite fast! Tehachapi has a historical downtown, is small but cute & hidden away on Hwy 58. It's definitely worth checking out if you're between Bakersfield & Mojave. I'm so glad i stopped in!!!! read more

Good sushi and great service! Was Passing through Tehachapi on my way to Las Vegas. Spent the night at the Holiday Inn. They recommended Ichiban so off I went. Was seated right away and my order was taken. I started with the double tuna roll. Very good with a nice spicy kick to it. Next was a similar roll with Shrimp temper in the middle. Also very good. As I said service was excellent and my rolls both came out right away. I'll be stopping by next time I'm through here. read more

I just ordered takeout for a tonkatsu ramen and this is the only piece of pork I got in it. This is a PORK ramen by the way. The pork piece that I got is also a lot smaller than it looks. About 1 inch by 1 inch by a half inch of meat in this entire thing. Seems like Ichiban is just another American knockoff that downgrades quantity and quality because they know Americans wouldn't notice the difference. I don't think I'll ever go back to that place. read more

Soon into countries to see how poorly cleaned this place is Just look at the floors......this is from no one running the sweeper thing over the rug ALL DAY. I understand you may only have 4-5 staff working but there's no excuse for poor hygiene! I've been a hostess at a semi-fine dining restaurant and there were times I had to ask guests to wait 5 minutes while I quickly clean up an area. YOU CAN DO THE SAME! Stop making excuses! read more

Food is awesome at this place.... I am rating it low because of the scam I just experienced with the manager... 5/4/23. A garlic edamame was served to us intentionally by the manager and billed us since we ate it... but how would we know if that was complimentary? Or not. I asked the host/waitress and she explained those to me but she didnt bother changing it since it was ordered by the manager... Its a good night to spend time with my brother so why ruin the moment by arguing right... so heres the one star for scamming people... we order plenty of food costing over $150 so why would someone do this to us? read more

We tried Ichiban Sushi a couple of days ago. We had heard mixed reviews from local folks, but were truly wanting sushi. The sushi was good, the teppan was good also. I have to tell you - I smelled Pine sol. Not what you want to smell when dining. I realized it was the ginger that smelled horrible. Mentioned it to server. She graciously took it away and brought fresh from the container she said. Still smelled like pine sol. Asked her to please take the ginger away. Service was ok. I really wanted to like this place at first... had a to go order, food tasted old. Fish wasn't good. Not fresh, my family and I experienced upset stomach for a duration of three days. The worst I have ever had, rolled so loose it fell apart as soon as you picked it up. The flavors were a miss on everything. The service was the worst , took the guy 30 minutes to just take our order . We had to keep flagging him down . Took an hour just to get our noodles, Then he put them on someone's table . Tried them for the first time today and yum!! The chirashi was awesome! Fish was fresh, melt in your mouth tender and lots of it! The Albacore roll was equally delicious and perfectly spicy. Also got a crispy rice appetizer that did not disappoint. I look forward to trying something different next time. read more

Great local place with friendly fast service. I admit I didn't try the sushi, so no help there:-). We had the teriyaki chicken with two extras. Very reasonable price for very reasonable food. The goyza were excellent. Three stars are for very americanized, not terribly interesting food. On the other hand, if you are just breaching out to other cuisines, it's a totally safe bet! read more

If I could eat gluten (& dairy), I would very likely give this 4 or 5 stars. But I can't, and unfortunately at Ichiban that severely limits what sushi I can choose from. I can't eat imitation crab (it's made of gluten), nor fried things, nor cream cheese. It seems that almost every roll has one of those things in it. The sashimi is very good. (Fish over rice.) My friends mostly like the sushi here. The ambience is nice. Service is much nicer than another sushi place in town. And sushi comes out of the kitchen much quicker than another sushi place in town. Another perk: Ichiban's hours are good (they're open when I'm wanting sushi). read more
