At one point in my life, I ate sushi all the time. Then, I took a long break, due to skimpy portions, exorbitant prices, and mediocre quality. My girlfriends who are also my colleagues decided to pick sushi as our monthly event. I hadn't been to Shoyu Sushi before. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The interior is small but spacious at the same time.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The bathrooms are very clean.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Music is vibrant.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We ordered miso soup and I almost didn't. But I am glad I did! It is the best I have had. The garlic edamame was addictive. The young lady who was waiting on us was straightforward and accommodating. I ordered the hama-hama roll and it was good and generous in portion. I ordered another fresh roll but forgot the name and it was too spicy for me but good. The only bummer was Shoyu did not have green tea ice cream. I ordered two bento dinner boxes to-go for my husband and son and they really liked them. I will definitely be coming back.

The food was very delicious today. I like trying this new dish today which was the popcorn lobster. The service was fair. Not a very friendly waitress. But maybe she's having a bad day. She was very quiet and went out the door for a phone call and we were out of Soy sauce. But like I said, maybe she was having a bad day. [[HIGHLIGHT]]They Still haven't changed the music. The ambience with the music is not very pleasant.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] But we keep coming back for the food.

I can't believe I haven't reviewed this place yet. It's difficult to find decent restaurants on the east side, especially a sushi place, but Shoyu Sushi is a gem on the east side. It's not a fancy place and is definitely just where us East siders go, but it saves you a trip downtown or even worse Rosedale or the southwest. The sushi is always good. They, thankfully, don't throw a bunch of unnecessary sauces on their sushi. The miso is also always good. They have gluten free soy sauce in the back for celiac folks. They give you these little eggplant treats before your meal, which is an unexpected perk. The service can be hit/miss. If you have the staff that have been there for a while they will be just fine. It's just the newer staff is lacking on attention.

Amazing place! Love everything about this restaurant. Haven't had a bad experience, ever. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It will get busy around Friday through Sunday evening hours.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Its a fun place to bring groups or sit at the bar and share a drink.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] A hidden gem on the Eastside.

We saw this place on yelp central valley on instagram and it did not disappoint! I came specifically for ramen! Everything was so delicious! The rice was cooked perfectly and so much flavor! The beef ramen was exactly how i expected it to be! Full of flavor and worth the price! I also tried the popcorn lobster roll. Definitely full of lobster! Delicious. The place itself was nice and neat. A little dark in there but i dont mind it. The service was amazing! Waiter made sure he was attentive to our needs. Fast service. Definitely coming back.

What can I say that hasn't been said already? Shoyu sushi continues to be my go to spot for sushi in town and always stays consistent with the food and service.

I've been seeing this place on my Instagram feed and decided to try it today with my son. We went after the lunch rush, so it was nice and quiet in the restaurant. We went to the location on Mount Vernon, and when you walk into the store it is completely different than it looks on the outside. The menu is good, and has a lot of options even for people who do not eat sushi. We tried the baked scallop roll, a California roll on rice, paper, vegetable tempura, a kitchen, bento box with chicken teriyaki, and Don Katsu, which is pork, and yakisoba with Chicken. The portions are large at the restaurant, so definitely shareable. The vegetable tempura was delicious and was served with one of the best tempura dipping sauces I've had. The outside had the perfect amount of tempura batter, and it was fried to perfection without making the veggies, soft or wilted. The Bento box was delicious and was a huge portion. It was served with a salad with a ginger sesame dressing that was mixed with a little bit of peanut butter, and I didn't care for it too much, I prefer mine without the peanut butter. The chicken teriyaki was tasty, the pork was also delicious, and the box also came with four pieces of California roll, and I ordered mine on rice paper. The yakisoba was OK. It didn't taste like much... It was a good portion, but it was missing the essence of wok stir fry flavors such as sesame oil, onions, garlic, soy sauce, and salt. I think my favorite thing in our meal was the baked scallop roll. Again, it was a fairly large portion, and definitely shareable. This roll was very fresh and topped with baked baby scallops, spicy mayo, and eel sauce. We also ordered the Bako roll, and that was good. It had salmon, cream, cheese, spicy crab meat, and was tempura fried, and topped with a dollop of Sriracha on each piece and a slice of jalapeño or serrano pepper. Overall the place was clean, and the staff were very friendly, and our waiter provided great service. We sat in a booth, and it was not as comfortable as a booth should be. There was no padding on the seats, and we could feel the frame of the booth, and the cover on them was peeling off. Overall, this place was good and will definitely go back when I am in the mood for sushi!

It's was a rainy day so we decided to try out the Spicy Pork Ramen. The broth was flavorful, and the meal was very filling.

Shout out to Mickey the owner!! She was so super sweet and she hooked us up! So our service Ritchie was super awesome also! He was personable and really down to earth! He was super amazing and I loved having convo with him! He says he's been here for several years so if you do happen to pop in then you will more then likely be able to request him and Believe me when I say he's worth it! We had so much food because there was 7 in our party but unfortunately we were all eating so fast I forgot to take pictures of everything! We even ordered a California roll with fried lobster on top! I've never heard of it but it was so good! Next time we are back in Bakersfield we will come back my husbands mom and step dad love this place they have known the owner for years and he looks out for them whenever they stop in!

This is the one and only Shoyu Sushi! The place on Calloway and brimhall is not the same and the sushi is different. This place is so good.

Food was great and fast like usual! But the waitress was kinda rude. I guess I said "thank you so…read moremuch" in a way the waitress didn't like and in response she said "girl calm down I haven't even given it to you yet." I don't feel like we were complicated customers, and that was said to me as our drinks were given to us so it's not like we had even had the chance so it felt pretty uncalled for.

Itadakimasu! We have eaten at Hon Ramen several times and each time is a delight. On our first…read morevisit we tried takoyaki as an appetizer and were smitten. These are fried octopus balls with a delicate crispy shell and a creamy interior with perfectly cooked octopus. They are garnished with kewpie mayonnaise and eel sauce with delicate shaved fish dancing on top. This is the only place in town for takoyaki and it is exactly like takoyaki in Japan. This time we opted for the salmon rolls which have pillow soft steamed buns, perfectly cooked moist salmon, eel sauce, and sweet slivered carrot. They are light and delicious with an order of two making a wonderful appetizer for the both of us. My husband ordered the Bulgoji bowl with savory and tender beef atop sticky rice. It is beautifully seasoned and not spicy which I love because I can actually enjoy it. In general bulgoji is too spicy for me so this is a wonderful discovery. My choice of chicken Ramen was also a win as the broth is rich and savory and the noodles have a great firm bite. The bowl is dressed with rich and tender chicken thigh, a fish cake, broccoli, spring onion, slivered carrot, and a marinated soft boiled egg. Food and service are phenomenal...Hon Ramen is THE place to go in Bakersfield. The sushi here is also top notch and prepared by the owner. Once a year he returns to Japan to visit family so for that period sushi is not available. Everything we have ever tried here has been a feast for the eyes and the tastebuds.
